Filch and Mrs Norris have been missing from Hogwarts for a few years. They are now being asked to come out of retirement and serve the school again. Both characters have a job to do - making sure the detentions given by the professors are served, as well as keeping an eye out for rule breakers (who will get away with things more often than they'll be caught, but how much fun would it be to frighten them?)

If you think you have what it takes to sneak around, spy on the students, and scare them into behaving, then please fill out the following application and PM it to Dumbledore, Lufkin, or Derwent. We need a Filch before a Mrs Norris, as Filch could work without her, but she needs him, obviously!

Due to attrition, we're looking for a few new professors to teach at Hogwarts next year. The job of professor includes posting lessons each week, grading homework, posting grades, roleplaying with students, keeping an eye out for troublemakers, weighing in on school policies, etc. It's a big job, but a rewarding one with lots of opportunities.

If you're up to the task, please fill out the following application and PM it to Lufkin.

Keep in mind while creating a character, we want all the staff to contribute to making VH feel like the Hogwarts in the books. We prefer older teachers with strong personality traits. We won't consider anyone young enough to have gone to school with Harry Potter (except for a canon character, maybe).

I'm not sure exactly which subjects are available yet (except for Transfiguration), but there are a few possible openings. Apply for whichever subject you're most interested in and please let us know if there are others you'd really enjoy teaching. Keep in mind that most subjects have full sets of written lessons that would just need to be adapted for your characters.

I should also thank Erica Jean, who though she couldn't come through with the code, helped with some nifty ideas for how it could work. We miss our EJ.

So, I have to go to work and I stayed up past 6 am this morning to fix the errors last night (again thanks to Faraz and Invision's Jason for some helpful advice). Here are just a few guidelines and some info about both the bank and shop for you. I'll have more info for you later.


Bank Info

1. You may not transfer money to your alter accounts!

1a. You may not launder money through other people so that it eventually ends up in your alter account! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

We have records of the bank transactions, so if we find out you've done this, you will lose all the money in all accounts involved. There are a couple groups of people exempt from this rule, and they will know who they are.

2. Member accounts are only able to transfer money to Shopkeepers. There are reasons for this, and I'm sure you oldies will know why we made it this way.

3. For now, new accounts start only with 7 galleons, just enough to buy your wand. (I hope. We'll either adjust it or get Madam O to lower her price if not.) But don't worry new people, we will arrange it so you'll have your school supplies before school starts.

4. Prices will be much lower since we now can put prices in sickles and knuts, not just galleons. Harry Potter Lexicon has a handy wizard currency converter, but for example 7 galleons is about $70 US or 35 british pounds. So there won't be any 1000 galleon brooms.

5. Yes, you will get allowances. More on that later.

6. You also earn money through doing your homework and posting in roleplaying forums. I think it's 15 knuts for roleplay posts (min 100 word count) and 1 sickle for homework posts (min 200 word count).

7. If you delete a post, the money goes away again so don't be gross and try to cheat the bank. If you do find a way to cheat the bank, we'll clear out your bank account for you.

8. YOUR BANK ACCOUNT DOES NOT EXIST UNTIL YOU CLICK ON THE BANK LINK. Up there under the banner. For this reason, we won't be giving allowances for a little while, so more people have a chance to open their account first.


Shop Info:

Yes the shop is empty. There's nothing to buy right now.

Once we're past sorting, we'll buckle down and start hiring any needed shopkeepers, deciding on inventory and prices, commissioning pretty images for items, etc.

The shop will work very much like it used to. Please be patient and wait til we post more information about this before asking questions about the shop.

Hey there VHers!

Are you at least a second year? Do you want to make VH more exciting for others on the site? And have a little fun in the process? (Remember: This character would be in addition to your student, not a replacement!)

We want to fill VH with ambiance characters, so if you think you can handle the responsibility, read on!

Hogwarts is home to over 100 house elves, at least 20 ghosts (quote from PS7: "about twenty ghosts had just streamed through the back wall”), unnumbered paintings and portraits, countless School Owls delivering messages all over; other possibilities are boggarts, ghouls, imps, gnomes; also centaurs and other denizens of the forest and grounds (Just remember, if a creature can’t speak you won’t be able to either).

• 1-Applications will be open year round for second years and above, or alumni of any year.
• 2-Term of service is one VH year, with the probability of renewal.

What we expect from Ambiance Characters:

• 1-Roleplays with students. This is your primary reason for being.
• 2-Serve the best interests of VH as a whole, by adding to the enjoyment of the student experience.
