Hazel Wheeler

Hazel Wheeler and Julian Pritchard were stuffed together in an alcove just down the way from the Great Hall. Hazel was trying to summarize her transfiguration notes in preparation for OWLs since it was one of her worst subjects. She had one hand carefully transcribing her scrawling cursive and the other was playing with one of her braids (her hair was starting to grow back enough she could french braid again). In her concentration, she was softly humming some song she'd heard from someone's wireless in the Hufflepuff common room. All in all she was glad that she and Julian had settled into their routines again - which was basically spending all of their time with each other - and that she could now snog him hold his hand whenever she wanted.

She looked up from her work to catch a break from the ink running together in her mind and spotted groups of people passing from the Hall to the staircases or to the dungeons. Five Ravenclaws... three Gryffindors... Hazel nudged Julian gently with her elbow and she placed her work onto the ground near her feet.

"How many of each house do you think pass this spot every day?" Was she distracting him from the task at hand? Yes. Did she care? Sort of but they both really needed a break. "Do you think there is more of one house than others? I know there were a lot of Huffs when we were first years (bc we won last time just saying)."

Welcome to another counting game!

I don't think that this has been done since VH36 so Julian and I are bringing it back. Huffs we won last time let's do it again.

For those of you who don't know the game, the rules are as follows:

Post a short roleplay (100 words is perfect!) of your character walking past the Prefects. This can be anything: going to class, feeling lost, causing a ruckus...Add a point to your House's total at the bottom of your post. Only one point per person! Game credit to Benny Laut. Please wait for Julian to reply before getting started!

Julian Pritchard

Julian almost jumped as Hazel’s question punched through the quiet they’d settled into. He would’ve liked to say that it was because he’d been entranced by the arithmancy text on his lap, but the fact was that he’d been distracted for several minutes now, having stopped to watch the way Hazel inked her notes into the parchment, her motions careful and precise. It took him a second to realise what she’d asked, once he was done fretting about whether he’d been caught staring.

“Um,” he said, ever so eloquently, stopping to clear his throat before craning his neck to look around them. “You know, I’ve always wondered that. There’s no reason to think that the qualities each of the houses value would be distributed evenly among Hogwarts students, but if you have a house with a lot of people, that seems like it would be an unfair advantage for the house competition - well, if people tend to earn more points than they lose, anyway…” He trailed off, a tiny frown creasing his brow.

“Maybe we could count while we’re studying. We could probably get a good estimate, given most people come to the Great Hall to eat.” He liked to think, anyway.

Gingerly, he dug out a scrap of paper from his book bag and divided it into four columns, jotting down the name of each house at the top.

This is now open!

Viola Merryweather

Viola was lost, but she didn't care. The book she was reading was just so interesting that she would wander the halls until she finished it. Her brain filled with information as she turned each corner, a page turned as she walked down the next hallway. Some people preferred to sit down while reading, amateurs. It took actual skill to do what she was doing. She hadn't been good at it all at once, she had had many a trip to the hospital wing after tripping over things, walking into things (and people) but she saved so much time by reading while walking around. She walked past the Great Hall, oblivious to the two prefects watching.

Annag Hamblton

Annag had a favorite little alcove just near the Great Hall. It was the alcove where she and Leon had started their grand adventure the year before. It was also the alcove that had quite the view out onto the castle grounds. She liked to go there and curl up in its darkest corner with her books – sometimes to study; sometimes to draw; and sometimes to just daydream. But her little alcove had become popular recently. Seemed older students had discovered it as a fine and quiet place to "study" as well.

And today was no different. The little Ravenclaw had learned to peak in before entering or she might see things that she really didn't want to. So when she peeped just around entrance wall that day, there were two students—a Ravenclaw and a Hufflepuff—looking like they might be getting ready for a "study" session.

The little girl sighed; rolled her eyes; and decided she might need to find a new alcove. This one had turned into a hotbed of teen desire.

Seeley Pichardo

Seeley couldn't be fussed with what spot it was that she was passing, she only knew that she was running late for the time she said she'd meet @Juan Garcia in the library and she was absolutely fuming with what had happened between her and @Desmond Potter in defense class and so the seventh year was riled up.  She buzzed past the two fifth years, barely giving them a first glance, let alone a second and turned towards the staircases.

"What are you two up to?  Nevermind, I don't care... just don't make anyone cry." She called out as she ran by and waved a hand in the air at them.

Hazel Wheeler

Hazel let out a puff of air when the first student to walk past them wasn't someone from her house. She leaned over Julian to mark a line in his 'Ravenclaw' column and watched as @Viola Merryweather made her way past the Great Hall. Hazel was going to smile at her in some form of greeting but the girl seemed to busy in her book to even notice she and Julian were counting her down on their sheet.

Another Ravenclaw (@Annag Hamblton) caught the corner of her eye and she pointed the girl out to Julian for him to note the count. It didn't even occur to Hazel that they may have stolen someone else's usual sitting spot, but the look on the girl's face was annoyed enough to make heat form in Hazel's cheeks. She looked over at Julian, giving him a once over, and yeah - she could definitely see the appeal of kissing him in the dim lighting - but as if she'd do it so close to the Great Hall. The blush spread to the tips of her ears and it became so much warmer. Had it always been so hot?

"@Seeley Pichardo!" Hazel perked up at the sight of her Head Girl passing them in a hurry. The question as to what she and Julian might be doing brought on that flash of embarrassed heat again, but luckily Hazel didn't have to try and explain herself before the older girl disappeared.

Hazel took a deep breath and marked a line under the Hufflepuff column. She leaned back and looked over what they'd done so far, "Two Ravenclaws and one Hufflepuff. Do we count ourselves in this or does it mess up the results?"

Fenella Campbell

They say that breakfast is the food of champions but Fenella didn’t quite agree. It was an important meal for sure, but it wasn’t always about when you eat but about what you eat. So food, generally speaking, was the food of champions. Makes sense, right?

Well it doesn’t matter what you think because this is clearly an inner monologue and is all in aid of getting to the point that Fenella was hungry. She departed the common room and headed up to the Great Hall for some lunch and food. Mmm food. No time to notice anyone else nearby when you’re on a mission with a one track mind.

Majesty

Flying was alway an easy thing for Majesty, of course, it was second nature to the Thestral, after all, he was a winged horse.  But he was sluggish today and the extra weight of the sheep he ate at @Rayya Borage-Brown House was something he shouldn’t have done.  But hey, she provided the free food, he was going to continue to show.  No matter how many times they’ve had their “you can’t rely on this as a food source talk.”

Soaring past a window quickly peeking inside, Majesty could see a gathering of students, or at least what looked like it from his quick flyby.  He would have to investigate.

Edward Borage

Edward was famished, so hungry in fact that he could have eaten a horse (but not @Majesty) or at least a sweaty sock. Fortunately there was much better fare to be had in the Great Hall. In fact it was safe to say that there would be way too much to pick from and he’d probably end up with a plain bread roll because that was what happened when there were too many choices to pick from. He’d grab a roll to ‘go on with’ and it would multiply into two or three and then he’d realise that he was no longer hungry...

Why couldn’t they have magic plates like his mother had?

Edward didn’t notice the Prefects but he did notice Fenella. “Hey! Fenella! Can I join you?”

Professor Pichardo

Oliver didn't normally bother in the affiars of students, not unless they were getting violent in the corridors and causing a scene, or unless of course it was his own daughter.  Even @Nico Pichardo managed to really escape his uncle's prying eye thus far, but when students seemed to gather, Oliver took suspicion.

"Classes are in session today." He reminded a group of them that seemed to be stalled by a window.  None of them seemed to belong in any of the classes he was teaching this term but still, he hoped he could usher them along.  At least the older few seemed to be studying something.

Hatty Hambeldon

"Hi Professor Picardo," she greeted him. As a seventh year who was only taking Care of Magical Creatures (it was the only class she wanted or needed a NEWT in for her career in magizoology) so she didn't have any classes to go to. "Some of us don't have classes though," she grinned. She did not enjoy as much the fact that her boyfriend Ryan wasn't here (which made things kind of long and boring) but she was hungry at the moment and wanted to stop by the Great Hall for a bite to eat.

The tiny part goblin seventh year prefect moved on then, making her way to the food where some of the others in the alcove were also making their way towards.

Oliver Strausser

Oliver tripped over his own feet as he got into the corridor (thanks to his slightly oversized shoes), knocking into someone who had joined the group forming near the Great Hall. Blast his oversize shoes anyway. He should have just broken down, broke the rules again and worn his converse that actually fit him, but the fact that they were probably permanently stained with red paint ruined them for him.  Even though it had happened days ago, he was still a bit irritated with Charlie and Atticus.

After muttering an apology to the person he nearly knocked over, he loudly mused to anyone who would listen: "Y'know, probably best not to gather like this in the hall; never know what someone above could be planning to drop on you." Learn from his mistakes people.

Winsome Tenpenny

Winsome had just been wondering around the castle, and that was definitely because she was trying to figure out what she was going to do for the holidays. She had thought about again staying at Hogwarts, but her parents had definitely made it clear that she was to come home for the holidays. She then suddenly ran into a gaggle of students and something that was invisible in the hallway. What was that invisible thing she ran into? ( @Majesty)

Juan Garcia

If he had been anyone else, hearing that his grades were slipping wouldn't have been cause for alarm. Most people his age tended to not care about how everything went but this was Juan Garcia, future auror. He NEEDED to care about how his grades ended up and he needed to cram as much knowledge into this brain as he could before the NEWTs. Dear god, the NEWTs.

Juan scurried this way and that throughout the castle for several days, trying to grab as many books to make sure he managed to catch up with his studies. Being busy with life was a terrible way to begin the year. Wait... It was already Christmas?!?! OH MY GOD.

Eleanor Malverne

Eleanor, unusually, was late. She had Defense soon, that very morning, and if she wanted to have half a brain to impress Professor Foster, she needed breakfast. Pulling on her last long gray sock and donning her brown Oxfords, she tapped out of the girls' dorm importantly and scurried up the stairs from the dungeons.

Emerging from the stairwell, she glance in the way people do when they notice a human-shaped object in the periphery. Her eyes slid over a Hufflepuff Prefect she didn't know and came to rest on Julian Pritchard, noted prat, Prefect, and Ravenclaw Quidditch Captain. Giving a sort of exasperated, elegant sigh of disgust, Ellie waltzed right past the pair and into the Great Hall.

Jerome Chan

Another library session was calling him, and he strolled through the halls. He was glad for the short break in lessons which meant he could catch up on some of his notes. He was a little worried about potions, since he didn't really know how to prepare ingredients. What was the difference between slicing and dicing and peeling? It all involved cutting anyway, right?

He was wondering about that when he walked past the Great Hall and noticed two older students there in a quieter area. What were they doing there? He wasn't sure. Either way, they were both prefects so it must be something important. He shuffled past them and gave them a small bow in respect - didn't people bow to their seniors and people in authority here? - as he was taught when he was younger, then continued making his way to the library.

Lorinda Weasley

Rin had been here for a few months and still didn't have her special spot in the castle. Day after day the Hufflepuff found herself seeking refuge in different places that weren't was occupied by other students. As of now, Rin was not looking for a spot since she was about to be late for class. She barely noticed that two of her peers were hidden in an alcove and counting her when she rushed by them.
