Dodging bludgers and other essential things...

Mentoring last year had been an utter breeze and it was probably why Simon had signed up for the programme again. It seemed like he had conveniently forgotten he'd been paired up with @Julian Pritchard last year. His friend had taken the initiative to set up meetings and activities whereas Simon had happily taken the backseat and felt pretty proud of himself for making it to a few of them in a timely manner.  It was when Simon had received his mentee's name, he realized that he'd be a lot more responsible than he had been last year. Responsibility seemed to be the theme of the year, seeing as he had plenty of other duties to keep track of--which now included taking an ickle under his wing.

Lovely.

It took him a while to come up with anything, but he finally managed to combine two things in one. Quidditch practice and mentoring, what could possibly go wrong? He'd owled Aleks to meet him down in the pitch around noon during the weekend, borrowing school equipment and setting it about the grassy field. A few practice bludgers, two brooms and a basket full of snacks that @Aurora Andrewshad helped him pack because otherwise they would have starved until dinner.

"You Aleks?!? he hollered as he saw a small figure a few yards from where he stood.

Aleksander Dracel-Cortes

He disliked flying with a passion. Mister C had made Aleksander afraid of being on a broom with the gun-ho way he went about teaching his class and now his mentor, @Simon Reed was trying to kill him by making him come down to the pitch! Pulling himself together, Aleksander gulped as he braved the outside of the castle and made his way down. He hadn't told Simon about how awful he was at Flying class, but maybe... just maybe his Mentor could help him? Once he reached the pitch, Aleks divested from his robes and stayed in his more sports friendly clothes. School issued joggers, a jumper and trainers - a couple of warming charms that someone had been kind to apply to his clothing were the trick at this time. When he heard someone call for him, Aleks waved his arms in the direction of the person calling, recognizing Simon once he was closer by.

"Wotcher!" - He called out informally, dropping the folded robes next to his feet. - "That would be me, you must be Simon."

He eyed the broom and blanched. - "Oh Merlin's sagging a......" - He stopped himself, blushing at his choice of language. - "Please don't tell me we're flying. I'm half bloody convinced Mr C is trying to murder us in class. Next thing he'll think flying near the whomping willow is a good exercise in dodging..."

Nobody tell that to @Mr Chamberlain though, he'll think it's an excellent lesson idea and Aleks could only imagine the holler his parents would send. Let alone the potential of his grandmothers showing up to discuss "school safety and idiots being hired". He could be spared the potential embarrassment as it stood, okay! - "I'm awful at flying..." The admission fell freely and he was already feeling awful saying it. What kind of bloody Wizard couldn't fly!?
