Headmistress McGonagall

The Sorting Feast

Recommended Posts

Headmistress McGonagall

Another September first had come. Unlike last year, however, there was an air of tension in the castle. The ceiling in the Great Hall was threatening to rain during the middle of the Sorting Ceremony, as if the castle itself could tell that there was something that was wrong.

After the last student had been sorted, Minerva cleared her throat. "Welcome to another year at Hogwarts. Congratulations to each and every one of the students that were sorted. For the next seven years, your house will be like your family."

"This year marks the fortieth year since Hogwarts was rebuilt following the Battle of Hogwarts. As you are no doubt already aware, there will be celebrations throughout the year, commemorating this important milestone. In fact, Minister Granger-Weasley will be joining us at Breakfast tomorrow to give some remarks before the school year officially begins."

"But you are also no doubt aware of the events that happened last year. There are a few safety measures that we must discuss before the feast begins. The first is that aurors will be patrolling the forbidden forest, as part of a continuing investigation. Please do not disturb them. If you are caught in the forest, you will be sent straight to my office. If you are caught a second time, you will be suspended, and then expelled. I encourage all of you to take this warning seriously, because it will be the only one that you receive."

"We will also be enforcing an early curfew on full moon nights, and will serve dinner prior to sunset. Students will be escorted from the Great Hall by professors after dinner to their common rooms. Prefects and head students will not be permitted to conduct patrols on the night of a full moon."

"Additionally, students who are found to be making anti-werewolf remarks will be referred to detention, and possibly face further consequences. This is a necessary measure to ensure that all students at the school can feel welcome. Hogwarts is everyone's home, whether or not you are a werewolf or muggleborn or have part-human ancestry."

"However, it should also be mentioned that any werewolf student who refuse to go to the Hospital Wing at any time during their cycle will also face detention, and further consequences if necessary."

Minerva clasped her hands together and nodded. "Now, the feast may begin!"

Professor Santiago

Minerva "Take No Prisoners" McGonagall was back again this year, and this time with a stricter message to the kids. Part of Mateo wondered if she was being a bit too strong, but a part of him idolized her and wished he had her by his side when he was a younger pirate. This was sort of leader you needed on a ship.

As a stark contrast to her announcements, Mateo spat out his juice at the news. "The Minister of Magic is coming here? Tomorrow? Oh..uhh...I got to go somewhere," Mateo said frantically, wondering how he was going to avoid being seen the Ministry. He had flown under their radar for so long and now, all of a sudden, they were going to find him. That wasn't good.

Chance Carter

The school was unspeakably loud tonight. Voices echoed through the corridors, disturbing the portraits, the suits of armour, the creatures, and the ghosts. They all chattered excitedly about the fresh blood within the castle, putting on their best to impress those who had yet to experience Hogwarts. Chance was not thrilled. He hovered unseen over the grand entrance hall, lurking above the line of incessantly talking unsorted students making their way into the Great Hall, apathy etched over his features. He would toss things at him if he could, but it seemed as though Peeves was the only one granted that ability. Eventually he would have to coerce the poltergeist into doing the things he could not.

He did have one trick up his sleeve, however.

Swooping into the Great Hall just as platters and dishes were overfilled with delicious food he could no longer taste, the bitter ghost offered everyone a warm welcome with a splattering of Chance Carter grade hate fuel.

Ectoplasm. Ectoplasm everywhere. On the tables, on the floor, on the benches, on the people.

"Welcome to Hogwarts, brats." He laughed maniacally.

Ellery Orr

It took several minutes for Ellery to really allow everything to sink in; simply being in this cool castle, the physically and emotionally exhausting train journey ,the Sorting Hat whispering to her sweet nothings about her wizarding Tesco destiny.  In fact, she was halfway through her second chicken leg when one of the scary Headmistress's words finally registered in her little sleepy pea-sized brain.

"There are werewolves here?" Ellery asked incredulously and very loudly while she abruptly dropped her piece of chicken. It was for the best; it was then covered by a strange goo, whose source prompted her to thrust an accusatory finger towards.

"And freaking ghosts, too???"

She suddenly was not sure if living in a cool castle was going to be worth this whole witch thang.

Lorinda Weasley

It was toture being the last one in her class to get sorted. Why did her name have to start with a W? Why couldn't they start from the back of of the alphabet and work their way forward? Wasn't this how life went? There were so many thoughts going through her mind as the sorting hat decided on one fate after the next.

The longer sorting went, the more nervous she had become. Father hadn't made this process any easier when he decided to start teasing her over the last few days about getting sorted into Gryffindor. To be honest, Rin didn't even want the house of the lions since her family had been sorted into it and she wanted something different for herself.

Apparently she had gotten her wish and been sorted into Hufflepuff. Rin was surprised that the house was wavering back and forth between another house and she had nearly gotten sorted into that one. After her talk with Joise, Rin was happy to be sorted into the house of sunshine. She was not even listening to the first of the year speech  when thinking about how she was going to thrive in the house of the badgers. It was only when someone poked her that she woke up from her daydream and observed everyone around her.

Hatty Hambeldon

Hatty fumed for Headmistress McGonagall said nothing about what would happen if people made anti-goblin remarks -- there had been plenty of that last year too. "I would hope," she said very loudly, "That those who say anti-goblin remarks would also face detention? The disparate way in which this school has treated people like me is ridiculous. THERE WAS PLENTY OF THAT LAST YEAR TOO!"

Alvis Anderson

Of cause, the air was filled with excitement and Alvis was dreamily off in his own head while the sorting went on but the moment the headmistress stood and began to give her speech, the now fourth year was brought back to the moment in hand. The Moment the last word has spoken the hall began to chat and food appeared in front of them, he barely heard much as the din of chatter drowned any single conversation going on but Alvis did turn to the table behind him and gave @Avery Potter a tap on the shoulder, ''No rule breaking right! Ain't spending a moment here without the one badger who makes it wonderful! Oh and I'll try to keep from wandering!''

He turned back to his plate and pilled it up high and dived into it.

"WAIT, THERE'S GOBLINS HERE, TOO TOO?" erupted Ellery's tinny voice from the other side of the Great Hall.

"GET OVER YOURSELF HATTY GREMLIN!"

The nerve of some people really, after everything she said towards Jack's kind, @Hatty Hambeldon still had the audacity to expect some respect?

What a joke.

Ellery did not yell again after this girl. She had seen that old movie Gremlins like three times and knew that she was not qualified to mess with them.

Avery Potter

"Jack..." Avery whispered towards @Jacqueline Frost, who had started the year as she clearly meant to go on. "...Are you seriously going to start this again? Can't we just get through and ignore the bitter Gryffindor she is?"

Before she could say anything else, Alvis's voice came close, and Avery turned around. She offered him a small smile, knowing there was at least one Gryffindor who was on her side. "Wanna go on a walk after the feast?" She said to @Alvis Anderson, needing an escape.

"I could but Frodo needs to remember her place and without her idiot boyfriend to defend her..." Jack gave @Avery Potter a grin and a shrug. "The year's bound to be off to a great start."

And not just because Ryszard had her back; he was right @Jaxon Sinclair was bound to lecture them about this. Something about being the "bigger person".

Darby Turpentine

Darby, knowing better than to engage in shenanigans which might ruin her later plans for the evening did not respond to any of the shouting.  Instead she stuffed her face as full as possible and continued casually spreading rumors about the alternative to going straight to bed for first years.

Molly Stone

Molly glared at @Hatty Hambeldon, who she didn't particular like after figuring out, last year, that she agreed with her boyfriend's prejudices. "Of course," she snapped. "You're obnoxiously selfish. I think the werewolf thing is a little more relevant right now." As she punctuated the word, she took a big bite off her chicken bone, sticky fingers clenching tightly around it.

"Anyway, welcome," Molly smiled at the new Gryffindors. "I hope you help us win the cup 'cause we never do."

With widened eyes, Ellery really did not say anything after death threats started being voiced. She tried to grab her piece of chicken again, but it was covered in that mysterious goo. It slipped right from her fingers and flew across the table.

Headmistress McGonagall

Minerva let out a heavy sigh. Couldn't they just have one nice feast without students shouting and getting into trouble?

"Miss Hambeldon, Miss Frost, Miss Stone, and Mister Althaus-Valerio, please report to my office after the feast," her voice thundered from her place at the staff table.

Seeley Pichardo

Seeley had no complaints about the speech McGonnagal had given, she'd do her best to uphold the responsibility she was given.

What she did have complaints about was the green goo that landed in her hair and she stood up fast from where she was at the hufflepuff table and looked up at where it had come from at the new ghost.

"PROFESSOR CARTER?!" @Chance Carter was back?!  When did he die?  Oh right... there was that thing in the paper.  Guess @Selena Watkins was never going to get her wallet back now.

Kaleb Kennedy

Really, Hatty? Really?

She was not going to win any sympathy points from Kaleb. Not after she turned out to be the absolute worst person ever. "Yeah, like @Molly Stone, welcome to Gryffindor!" Kaleb offered to the new first year students. But before he would eat some food, he had to make a stop over at @Avery Potter. "Hey Avery, I got this stuffed lion for you," Kaleb offered to the girl. This one was a mix between silver and black and he was sure she would love it.

Hatty Hambeldon

Seriously???!! She had not even said anything about werewolves and yet again she was being attacked for being part-goblin. The hypocrisy of the school was astounding to her.

"I DIDN'T SAY ONE THING ABOUT WEREWOLVES AND YET @Ryszard Althaus-Valerio OVER THERE IS CALLING FOR ME TO DIE! AND @Jacqueline Frost CALLED ME FRODO!"

Then Headmistress McGonagall showed up. She sat back down with a huff but she was steamed. It wasn't like she said anything negative about werewolves, not one word and yet she was probably going to be punished regardless. It was so unfair.

"Don't be such a joykill, McG," Jack groaned, and rolled her eyes.

Well if she was going to be in trouble at least she was in good company.... well with the exception of Hatty.

Ellery Orr

Before she could recover her rogue chicken leg, Ellery heard something mentioned about Lord of the Rings. She had never read the books or watched the movies because she was not a nerd, but she did know one line.

"AND MY AXE!" she automatically yelled without context.

"Report to your office?" Molly stared at @Headmistress McGonagall in confusion. What? For telling Hatty she was selfish? Sure, Molly was fine with a detention or punishment if she deserved one, but all she'd done was defend the werewolves (and state a fact). "But why, ma'am?" She shrugged her shoulders. "Alright, but that seems a little extreme."

Adrina Althaus-Valerio

Addy barely had time to process the words that had fell out of her roommate's mouth before the Headmistress was already dishing out office meetings to the girl.  She shot a look at @Jaxon Sinclair, and then shifted her gaze to her brother.   "RYSZARD!"

They hadn't been back at school for half a day yet.

Never a dull moment here.
