Headmistress McGonagall

Dinner

Recommended Posts

Rayya Borage-Brown

“She didn’t?” Rayy asked, mostly rhetorically. It figured! Nothing was ever straightforward and the best laid plans often went south. “Right, I’m on it. @Miss Turner if they come back here, send me word.”

Her wand moved to point to her badge when Richard’s message came through, telling her what she had just found out. She let out a soft sigh and activated her own badge, “Update: Avery Potter IS NOT in the Great Hall. Commencing search.” Just once it would be nice if things went smoothly but it wasn’t a crime to not eat dinner but of course finding the missing pair was now top priority; sunset wouldn’t hold off forever.

Rayy turned smoothly on her heel and strode out of the Great Hall faster than she’d walked in.

—————-

Rayy is now out.

Ryszard Althaus-Valerio

It only took his sister's next words to snap him out of it.

Ryszard looked up, suddenly, realising who he was talking to and what he was saying. He had forgotten who he was - Adrina wasn't supposed to be comforting him; this was all wrong. Immediately, ignoring the way his heart continued to beat hard enough against his chest to bruise, he sat up all the way, a hand landing gently on @Adrina Althaus-Valerio's arm. It didn't matter what was going on between them - this was his sister, and he would walk through hell for her.

He was well aware that he was currently walking through it, but he would stay. Every time.

"Of course we will," he said, softly, pulling her against him. "They'll both be back soon enough, and until then, we stick together, yeah?" He wasn't letting his sister out of his sight until all of this had been sorted out, by someone that was actually capable. and he could escort her to the safety of the Hufflepuff common room.

Headmistress McGonagall

The message from Harry on her mirror was loud and clear—there was no current danger to the students at Hogwarts. While she was relieved, she couldn’t help but feel frustrated that the students had been put through the stress of a lockdown to begin with.

She stood suddenly, surveying the students crowded in the Great Hall. “We have received an all clear signal from the auror office. Students are asked to line up by house. A professor will escort you back to your common room once your house has been cleared.”

Fenella Campbell

The ruckus continued as the were-students were taken from the Great Hall. The commotion was intense and the tension in the room could be cut with a knife. Fenella suddenly wished that all the cutlery in the room was magically disappeared, just in case. She continued to sit tight waiting for something to happen, for what though, she was unsure.

She was temporarily distracted from the internalised catastrophising when @Jerome Chan dropped in. "Hey." She smiled when he offered her a pastry - he was so kind and lovely - but she had to decline. "I don't think my stomach could handle it right now, not with all this ... drama happening."

She'd chosen the word drama carefully. It wasn't chaos in the room yet - no one was being attacked by a dangerous force and no one had been bitten or .. or well something similar. Like bludgeoned. Or concussed. I mean they could be, it was still very loud in the hall and they didn't have a very good vantage point from underneath the Hufflepuff table. Oh gosh, it was happening again wasn't it? Her palms were sweaty, knees week, arms are heavy, there's vomit on her sweater already ... wait no! Well it was true until the vomit bit. And it wasn't until Headmistress McGonagall announced to the room that they had the all clear that Fenella let out the breath she didn't realise she'd been holding on.

"False alarm!" she turned to Jerome. She then opened her bag and showed him the contents of the containers filled with puddings. "Looks like we had the same idea." Yes she could joke about their squirrelling ways now that there was no imminent risk of being attacked.

Jerome Chan

Jerome nodded in understanding at @Fenella Campbell's words - at the mention of all the drama. He didn't like too much drama. He liked calm and no fighting and no shouting and no trying to pull friends apart and no attacks on the school. Was peace really so hard to achieve? It was all about understanding people and seeing balance in the world, and that wasn't so hard, at least to him. And even if it was hard, wouldn't it be worth it?

He pulled back his arm and looked at the uneaten pastry. It seemed a waste, but he could keep it for another time. All the excitement and things going would probably make him hungry later, though he was sure his parents wouldn't be too thrilled at him eating such sweet things at night. Maybe he should opt for a cup of jasmine tea instead.

At the sound of Headmistress McGonagall's voice, Jerome stilled and listened attentively. He wanted so desperately for good news that he began to pray to the gods. He hoped that maybe it wasn't real, and that everyone could be happy, and that no one would ever hurt the school or the students in it. 'Clear signal'. His eyes widened in relief and he sighed, something that he noticed Fenella did too. She must have been as anxious as him, then.

His eyes perked up when she began talking - in a much happier tone, he noted with a smile. And his jaw nearly dropped at the sight of her little stash, if that could be considered little at all! "You're a genius!" he grinned at her while laughing. Who said Hufflepuffs weren't the smart house?

Aurora Andrews

Aurora didn't get a lot of time to process the sudden arrival of @Hazel Wheeler before there was another throwing themselves upon @Simon Reed. The redhead's eyebrows rose as far as possible as she took in the smaller frame of someone she absolutely did not know. Her eyes went from Hazel to Simon to the new arrival looking and feeling as uncomfortable as possible. She couldn't possibly have been more thankful when big G announced that they were fine and nothing was wrong.

She delicately patted the shoulder of the kid. "There... there?"

Jack Dare

Jack had needed reassurance from a person in authority, and lacking @Julian Pritchard , had sought out a surrogate in @Simon Reed little noting that his mentor already had his hands (and arms) full. Once smashed against Simon's chest however it became apparent how crowded said chest already was, nor could Jack ignore that he was now being addressed by an older feminine voice.

Still sniffling and trembling Jack turned to look at @Hazel Wheeler (but not before his tear-stained face had made a wet spot on Simon's jumper). "I-I know you," Jack said. (which was less accurate than saying 'I have stalked you from a distance taking notes' ) "You're Julian's girlfriend." And if rumors were true, and Jack had taken some pains to verify that they were, she was also Simon Reed's former girlfriend, a situation that went far to explain Simon's jealousy of Julian and the prickly relationship between his two mentors. Jack found it troubling that Julian Pritchard had scarcely left the hall before his girlfriend had thrown herself into Simon's arms. He might have said something cutting about it were he not for the fact that he was also in Simon's arms. Jack immediately detached himself from the older boy, deciding that perhaps  he should give Hazel the benefit of the doubt in this case.

"I'm not frightened for myself," Jack said, "I'm only concerned for Julian." This too was not strictly correct. Jack was also frightened for himself, however he had read enough heroic fiction to know that this was the appropriate thing to say in situations such as these.

Jack's turned his attention from Hazel to the other other girl who was now patting him. Jack did not know the appropriate thing he was meant to say in response to @Aurora Andrews's "there, there." He was contemplating whether to answer with a "here, here" when the Headmistress made her announcement sparing Jack from having to decide.

Josie Potter

Josie had found herself sitting with some of her quidditch team mates at various times lately and had been enjoying chatting with them.  Her brother had been in a mood lately so she had been letting him be while he worked out whatever it was that he had to work out.  She just knew something was off and tried to stay out of his way.  However, when the irritating beeping began during dinner, she looked at @Katherine Braelin-VonHaus to see whether to ignore it or try to get it to stop.  That turned out to be the least of the worries as an auror showed up and announcements were made.  Josie frowned as some of the students began yelling at the werewolves who where afraid... with very good reasons.

However, as the group to go to the hospital wing began to assemble, Josie left her spot at the Hufflepuff table and sought out @Box Tree knowing that his brother would be leaving and wanting to be there for her friend.

Simon Reed

He hadn’t planned on taking care of the ' @Julian Pritchard Fan Club’ that night, he’d only prepared to look after his pets… then again he hadn’t expected there to be another attack any time soon. Yet here he stood with @Aurora Andrews tucked underneath his shoulder, @Hazel Wheeler wrapped around his other arm, and last but most unexpectedly his mentee. The third came completely out of the left field, wrapping his arms around his mid-line and sniffling into his jumper as the werewolves were escorted out of the Great Hall.

If he’d been capable he would have probably returned the embrace, but he had nothing to offer except a place to land. There was no denying that he was just as scared and worried as everyone else, flashes of what had happened back in November trying to flood his consciousness as he tried to bring comfort to his friends, tried to think of some sort of way to defend himself and others… trying not to think about the fact that Rad was nowhere in sight.

Why was this happening again?! This felt like way too much responsibility for a fifteen year old to handle all on his own, but thankfully the appearance of Jack had brought Hazel and Aurora out of their own selves enough to ‘bare’ some of the weight. “Y-yeah, this is @Jack Dare.” he finally supplied after a long bout of silence, “We also have Jeramie, but he’s probably keeping Julian company.” he continued, because it had sounded nice in his head to think that Julian wasn’t alone, because it would maybe make Hazel and Jack feel a little bit better to think about it in that way as well.

They all paused as McGonagall’s voice echoed through the hall, declaring that they were no longer in any imminent danger. They were in the clear. His muscles began relaxing as he let out a deep breath of relief, “We’re safe.” he muttered.

Ryan Buratsche

While Ryan was relieved that they were safe, he almost didn’t trust the news. There was a sliver of doubt at the back of his mind that had been magnified by the number of werewolves that had refused to go to the Hospital Wing with the aurors, even when their transformation was imminent.

As he lined up, he couldn’t help but feel that the wolves were dangerous, and waiting for the perfect moment to attack them.

Prometheus Saintcross

/late

Prom felt his muscles tense as all of the newly-turned students were collected, like cattle, to be herded from the Great Hall to their designated prison where, presumably, they would suffer together for the first time for the greater good of the rest of the student body. He heard @Jeramie Slater begging his sister to stay safe, to not let them get her. Who was them? What was happening?

The boy stood up from the bench resolutely and made his way to the twins with a couple of long strides. He gently put a hand on Angel's back, but looked at Jeramie. "I'll stay with her," he said stoutly. He could feel--had always felt--that the boy didn't really care for him, but he tried to convey with his sincerest gaze that he would do anything to keep Angel happy and safe.

"I promise."

/fashionably late as always

The tension was palpable in the Great Hall tonight.  A shift in the timing was evident of course, which brought to the forefront the why.  They all knew, of course.  There were no secrets anymore when it came to the state of the student body with respect to the werewolves.  They had been harshly divided into camps, and each side had become more volatile and vocal as the year had progressed.  And perhaps it was a bias, but Angel had witnessed much more malice and hatred from the side who claimed "student safety" was their primary concern.

She sat perched next to @Jeramie Slater, stealing fearful glances at him through dinner.  Not because she was scared of him - she wasn't.  She was scared for him.  For his safety and well-being.  For his comfort.  He always felt ill today and though he would play it off, his untouched dinner spoke volumes.  She laid a gently hand on his shoulder.  "It's okay, Jer. It'll be..."

Before she could elaborate, the Great Hall quickly descended into chaos.  Professor McGonagall announced that... an attack was immanent. She paled, her mind's eye drifting back to November.  She couldn't go through that horror again.  She was only now starting to come out of the tragic fog that had enveloped her family, her friends.  Eyes glassy, she turned to Jeramie's voice.  Telling her to hide as he was torn away from her.  To safety.  He would be safe.  She reached for him as he joined the throng of werewolves, letting out a soft sob as he slipped from her grasp.

She knew that logically they were moving them to a separate location for the Hogwarts students' "safety", though with Wolfsbane, the werewolves weren't a threat.  Angel was confident in that.  And so it was actually a relief they were being led away, not for her safety, but for theirs.  For all of them.  Her heart went out to them, all dealing with what her family had endured, and what the other students in this Great Hall, behind all the lies and ridiculous displays of prejudice and hate, would never understand.  Would never try to understand.  She found her fury bubbling to the surface as more ignorant lines came out of @Behati Gadot and @Ryan Buratsche's mouths.  She threw a dinner roll at both of them, but her aim fell short.

@Prometheus Saintcross arrived like a white knight, and Angel's anger dissolved into tears as he promised Jeramie he'd stay with her.  She had never gotten the impression that Jeramie and Prom had gotten along - Prom had cleaved more to @Jack Dare, and Jer had always had her.  But that night in November had linked them together despite that, and she turned to Prom, wrapping her arms around his waist and crying silently into his jumper.

“We also have Jeramie, but he’s probably keeping Julian company.”

"He is," Jack confirmed. "I saw the two of them together." Jack felt guilty that up until this moment it had not occurred to him to be worried for Jeramie and had only had Julian on his mind, but Jeramie had been distant with Jack since his injury and downright hostile ever since he'd returned from the holidays a recognized werewolf. Jack had tried hard to be friendly and solicitous to him only to be repeatedly rebuffed. It was no excuse though, Jack told himself, and he resolved to try even harder to be Jeramie's friend if they both should survive the night.

Thankfully Jack's worry for his own survival was soon dispelled when the headmistress made her announcement.

"What do you think it was?" Jack asked Simon. "Do you think it was the bad werewolves or do you think it was whoever has been threatening us with all the posters?"

As they were commanded to line up by houses Jack realized he should find his buddy again, although he didn't want to. He was still afraid and staying with his mentor seemed safer than pairing with other first years. It was unkind to think it, but Prometheus wasn't the greatest at aggressive spellwork. Even Jack was better, which was saying quite a bit. With that in mind Jack felt guilty about not being at Prom's side to offer protection (such as it was). He looked through the crowd until he spotted his friend embracing Angel. For some reason this made Jack feel mildly resentful without knowing why. Jack lingered near Simon. He thought perhaps it really was more prudent to stay with his mentor. That was the reason people had mentors after all.
