Headmistress McGonagall

Detention: Ethan Smith

Recommended Posts

Headmistress McGonagall

When the clock in her office struck eight, it was time for Ethan Smith, Hogwarts’s Head Boy, to serve his detention. Minerva was sipping her after-dinner tea when Ethan arrived in the Tower.

“Nice to see that you’ve arrived on time, Mister Smith,” Minerva said, setting her cup of tea down. “If you will follow me, I will show you to where you will be serving your detention.”

She ascended the stairs to the study, gesturing at the books that had been pulled down from the shelves and those that were out of place on the shelves.

“Your task is to collect all of the books and put them back together in alphabetical order. By title, if you please, and then by author. You will notice that a dreadful amount of it hasn’t been organized in quite a while. Likely not since Albus was headmaster.”

She cleared her throat. “Without magic, as well. When you’ve finished, I will escort you back to your common room.”

Hello and welcome to Detention with the Headmistress! Your task, @Ethan Smith, is to rearrange the books in my study so that they’re in order. Five posts of 100 wc or more will suffice to complete the detention.

Detention! That was a word that Ethan hasn’t heard of since he was a second year. It has been such a long time. Ethan was a good student, he followed the rules, he enforced the rules. And when he was trying to talk to a friend about anything. Something they needed to talk about, but he didn’t know how to bring it up. He took her from the Great Hall and the headmistress followed them, it wasn’t hard to find them, since they were just outside the great hall.

Looking at the clock, he knew it was time for him to head to the headmistress tower and served his detention.

“I don’t like to be late ma’am.” There were Times he might have been late but there was reasons for it, and the professors were alright with that. Right now though, he wanted to explain the the headmistress that’s what he did with Jack was not abusing the badge, at this moment in time he didn’t care about the badge. The badge meant nothing for him at this time. @Jacqueline Frost was a friend, and he was looking out for her.

Ethan followed her up the stairs, he would be impressive with this office if he wasn’t here for the reason he was here. Never did he think he would ever enter the headmistress tower.

Hearing what his task was going to be, and that he would be doing it without magic. That was something he was going to expect. He grabbed his wand out of his holster. “You want to hold onto this ma’am to make sure I don’t use it.”

It was odd for him holding out his wand and giving it someone, if she was going to take it.

Looking at the books, they were a mess. This was going to take all night. He was sure of that. Hearing that she was sure a lot havnt been touched since Headmaster Dumbledore .

Ethan didn’t even know where to start, so he walked to the right and just hoped he would be able to do this, and not be here all night.

Taking each book down, one stack at a time by stack, it was a lot harder without magic. He didn’t think about how it would be. With him growing up as a muggle - with being muggle born - he thought that this wouldn’t have been super hard. Just with him being so used to using magic these days it was taking a lot longer than he thought that it was going to take.

Ethan was going to be here all night, and it was going to have him think about what the headmistress told him when he was in the corridor with Jack. The first was about his conduct, something that she was was unbecoming of a Head Boy. Which he didn’t understand at that moment. But with the more thoughts that he had on it, it did make him think about what he has been doing as a head boy since he got here and what Headmistress McGonagall has seen of him.

With silencing Jack a few times, one time being the worst time possible. He shouldn’t have been worried about the exams, he should have been worried about his friend. He saw Jack as a friend, no matter if she was a lot younger than he was. Ethan thinks of her as a sister and wants to protect her. That day, he did none of that.

Also today, when all this was happening, and he was taking her out of the great hall and hoping to keep her safe and not lose it. Knowing that jack was someone that would be able to lose it with one thing that someone said. He didn’t need that happening. He threaten to silence her again, something he knew he wouldn’t do at all. He would never do that again.

Just the thought of it hurt him, and it was something that just slipped out. It was his go to method with her.

Looking at the books that were finally all taken down, he needed to but them in alphabetical order first, with the title first. There was just so many books, he was trying to figure out the best way to do this, making piles was the best idea that he had, so he could get them in the title order first before thinking about author.

It seemed like time was going so slow, this detention was not fun at all. Knowing that he wasn’t allowed to have his wand at all it was just so much harder. He should not have gotten used to using magic all the time. It was something he shouldn’t have been worried about, since he was raised as a muggle.

Picking up his first stack of book, the letter A -then with the first author. Knowing that this was a not a simple cast at all. The books names were odd, the authors names were odd. He had to remember that this was the magical world, and names were not like his. Something that was simple.

More thinking was coming out of this, he was starting to think about how everything around here has changed. Hogwarts was not like it was when he started. They were kids and teenagers and not everyone got along. People had the right to their opinion.

Knowing that he shouldn’t have just grabbed Jack and walked out of the great hall, still he was a friend of his and he wanted her to be safe.

Picking up the second stack, this time the letter B. Placing them back on the self. Then on to the next letter.

So many books, he lost track of time. He wondered how long he has been here at this moment. Knowing that he got here at eight, but he has so much to do. He needed to get this done, he wanted to go back to his dorm and sleep.

Letter D….

He was starting to feel like he was getting closer to being done. Thinking that he has been here for almost a month now. When it has only been a few hours. Thinking about what he was finishing up, as he was walking back and forth as he was going to put the books back on the shelf.

Picking on up, it had so much dust on it and he blew it and started to cough. That wasn’t something that he should have done at that moment but he did and now he was coughing more and needed to take a seat and not think about doing this any more. He was finally almost to the end.

He was one the letter T….

Knowing that he was more that half way done and it was nice to know that he was there. Thinking about what he did and still didn’t think that this was something that should have happened at all. He was doing something for a friend and it got him into trouble.

Wanting to tell that to the headmistress but he didn’t, she already had her mind made up about Ethan at that moment. Thinking that he was using his badge to be able to do what he wanted to do. Which wasn’t something that he did, Ethan wasn’t someone that would use a badge to just do what he wanted to do with his time at Hogwarts.

Looking at the pile of books, it was lower and lower. Almost done.

Post Five - 257 Words

How much time has passed. Ethan was getting ready to finish up with the letters and he was going to be done. This was something he didn’t think would take all night but it seemed to take all night. Wishing that he was able to use magic now, still he wondered how long this had taken since he had started.

Grabbing the very last book he placed it up. Hoping that the headmistress would show back up soon and allow him to go back to his dorm he was very tired and needed a long night sleep. That would be if he was going to be able to go to sleep.

Looking around he was happy with the work that he did, this was something he didn’t think he would ever have to do but it was a job well done. At least one that he thought he did well with.

This also gave him a lot of time to think and figured that he might need to go talk to @Jacqueline Frost soon and make sure that she was alright. And promise to never silence her again, he cared for her like a sister and he was so worried with her being here the next four years without him to make sure everything was going alright.

Jack Frost coming into her life made everything a mess but a better mess than what he has ever dealt with in his life. Now where was the headmistress so he would be able to go back to the common room.
