What time is it? Hufflepuff Quid Time.

Desmond Potter

The events that happened, he wouldn't forget them. But there was still a quidditch game that was happening soon and his team needed to be ready for it. They had been working hard, but Desmond and Addy had to do a final line up and make sure they were going to be the best. He never thought that he would be captain of the quidditch team, heck he never thought that Quidditch would be coming back. It's been two years since he stepped foot onto the pitch that wasn't for flying lessons. The last time he was here was also when the attacks happened.

Asking a professor to walk his team outside, that was a bit hard. Knowing that they had to have a professor with them at all times when they were outside. Most times Desmond didn't care for the rules. He just wanted to keep his spot as captain and decided that these rules were worth listening to. For the time being.

Smiling at the professor who was waiting for them and when the whole team showed up. "Alright, thank you all for coming. As you know we have a game soon. With the events that have happened we only have so much time allowed outside and today I want to make sure that we are ready. Also this is going to help us figure out where we want to put you on the team. So show us what you got."

As they got to the pitch. "On your broom and give me three laps. Then it will time to start." Grabbing the box out, he had his practice set with him. Not wanting to use the real thing. Not yet. He was hoping that they were going to be ready.

Kate was dressed in her Quidditch garb. Shin pads and elbow guards, donned in yellow and black, she met the Quidditch Captain and was then escorted to the Quidditch pitch by a Professor. “This is so lame,” she muttered to herself. “It’s still daylight outside. It’s not like we’re going to be…” She stopped herself short, because surely saying the word ‘attacked’ would only lead to bad blood between her and some of the Hufflepuff team members. “Nevermind,” she added, hanging her head.

Best to just fall in line.

She grabbed a broomstick, and frowned at having claimed an old cleansweep. “Are we going to use better brooms for the game?” she asked, peering at the Cleansweep. It was a ghastly broom. Slow. Gross. She didn’t want to be seen on it.

Adrina Althaus-Valerio

In all honesty, Adrina didn't know the first thing about being the captain of a quidditch team because she didn't know the first thing about being on a quidditch team.  In all her first few years at school there hadn't been a team to be a part of and so she wasn't at all sure she had this under control but in terms of experience she was the only other person who'd signed up to play with much of any of it.

Basically, they were all doomed.

That didn't stop the third year from still trying to put her best foot forward.  With a (very forced and very grim) smile on her face, she greeted Desmond (yea she was totally, totally following his lead here) and the rest of the team on the pitch along with the obligatory supervising professor and got to work getting ready for their first game.  At least this would be one way to take her mind off of everything else.

Josie Potter

Never mind not knowing anything about being a quidditch captain or being on a quidditch team, Josie did not know anything about quidditch!  You would think she would considering her Grandmother Ginny was a star player for the Holyhead Harpies and Grandfather Harry and her Weasley uncles all played on the Hogwarts Gryffindor team during their years at the school.  Let's not even mention the pick up games that always ended up happening at family events.  But she had never really paid full attention.  Even when her brother, Des, would be home on holidays and show her his quidditch equipment and tell her what each one was.  She was watching but not totally registering anything about quidditch because she was just happy Des was home and she was spending time with him.

She never did recall exactly when she signed up for the team and suspected she just got sign up happy with so many announcements and activities going on that first week.  But, she also wanted to make Desmond proud of her so she was not backing off now.

Basically, in the words of the older and wiser @Adrina Althaus-Valerio, 'they were all doomed'.

Kate was standing there, eyeballing her broom when it was ordered they needed to do three laps. It was one of those ‘blink, and you’ll miss it’ things, because three laps was easy. It was nothing… when you had a Firebolt X, of course. With a cleansweep, better make it two blinks.

With a sigh, the young Hufflepuff mounted her broom and kicked off from the spongy Earth at her feet. The wind immediately picked up the higher she got in the air and she smiled. Up here, she didn’t have to think. Everything else fell away, and that was the power that Quidditch had over a player. It was a zone, and it was completely mental--but not insane mental.

“Come on, Josie!” she said to her dorm mate. “Let’s gooooooooooo!”

Ralph Digby Hamilton

For once, Ralph was not being quite as ridiculous as normal. He wore his newly acquired Quidditch gear rather than a t-rex costume or something equally useless in the air, and carried the broom he'd received for an early Christmas present from his mother upon the news that he'd made the team. Sure, she didn't understand what Quidditch was, but neither did he so it was neither here nor there.

What was important was that he was on the Pitch and ready to practice.

He immediately mounted his broom, barrel rolling the second he got high enough off the ground to do so before finding his balance and flying up to meet his teammates. "Hi guys! I've never been an athlete before! This is cool!"

Josie stood on the pitch, gripping her broom and just staring for a moment.  Memories were hard to shove down sometimes but she had managed to fly a little bit since and knew she could do it.  But Desmond was there and he wouldn't let anything happen to his team (or his sister) so Josie knew they were safe.  Plus it was daylight after all.

Hearing Kate urging her to get going, Josie gave her dormmate a smile, mounted her broom and took off.  She gave Ralph a thumbs up sign at his barrel roll but decided she'd pass on the air acrobatics for now and just get the three laps in to start.  "Way to go!" she called out to him, in encouragement.  They were going to give it their best try whether they knew anything about quidditch or not.

The team certainly seemed to lack in the experience department. With Desmond as the oldest on the team, there was a sense of dread creeping up Kate's spine as she thought about facing off against the other teams. Would they have more skilled players in their line-ups, she wondered as she watched Ralph do a barrel roll in the air. Whether it was on purpose or by accident, she had no idea, but it was impressive--for many reasons.

Katherine leaned forward on her broom, flatting herself along the handle. Speed picking up, she rounded the three hoops on one end of the pitch, and chanced a glance behind her at the others. She was ready to commit to all the practices they were going to have. Whether they were at the crack of stupid or sacrificing their dinner. She was hungry for this chance to be a good player on the Quidditch team. As the only Hufflepuff in the family, she had plenty to prove.

Looking around, he saw that there was some people that were looking like they knew what they were doing but Desmond knew that there was others that needed some more working on. “Warms up are now done, today I want to see what position you would like to play. For those who don’t know quidditch, there is Keeper, Seeker, Beater, and Chaser.” He started to explain what each of them were and knew that he wanted to be a Beater, it was his favorite position on the team and he enjoyed playing that the past few years.

“So first thing we are going to do. I am going to throw this quaffle in the air and I will need you all, one at a time please, to try and catch it.”

Grabbing his wand and summoning the quaffle towards him. “First up will be Katherine.” He yelled up and threw the quaffle and waited to see what Katherine was going to do, since he didn’t have a set position for anyone on the team at the moment, he was ready to see what each player would do. “Next is Josie.” He called out to his sister, which he was shocked about that she tried out and thatch even showed up.

“Ralph, it is your turn.” Calling towards the next person and threw another quaffle this time towards Ralph. “When you throw them back to me, please don’t throw them all at once. I am only one person here.
