Pretending is not that easy when you do it everyday.

Pine Tree

There was an issue with trying to live in the forest at a school where people were always around, telling him that he had to leave the forest and couldn't sleep there. One point he was able to mange to get to sleep before someone was waking him up. Why wouldn't they just allow him to live there, he wasn't inside the forest just one the outside of it. He wanted to be around trees and it was the best feeling in the world.

Still when he wasn't able to sleep there, he would be made to go back to the tower and he would just go to sleep in the couch since he was too tired to make it to his dorm and he felt back for his dorm mates. He knew the first night when he said he was leaving that Alec was a little sad, but he didn't know to talk to his friend. Beside Box, since Box was his brother, Alec was one of his friend friends and knowing that he needed to talk to him.

Breakfast would be the prefect time, he just had to figure out how to be able to go and talk to him.

Pine thought that just going up to him was the best thing. Taking a seat next to him at the Gryffindor table and grabbing some fruit and smiled. "Good Morning, how is it going." He didn't know if Alec knew he was sleeping in the common room, since he was up early and made it look like he was ready to go early in the morning. Which wasn't the case, he was just trying to pull off living in a forest. He didn't think it was working that well at all. Still he hoped that it was working.

Only time would tell.

Alec was feeling homesick, though he tried not to admit it to himself. His new dormitory was all the way up in a tower, and as exciting as that was, it didn't feel anything like home. His new roommates seemed nice enough, but most of them he hardly knew - and the one he really felt he actually did get along quite well with had left. That had made it all feel even lonelier.

By the time Alec made it to breakfast, he was feeling rather lost. What was he even doing here at Hogwarts? Sure his siblings were here but he hadn't spent nearly as much time with them so far as he would've expected. He'd never felt so clueless or out of place in his life. Even the breakfast wasn't quite right - it was quite tasty but it wasn't the same as it was at home.

He was halfheartedly nibbling on some toast with jam when Pine joined him. Pine's smile and casual greeting felt out of place - Pine had left, and now he was acting as if nothing had changed, as if nothing had ever happened.

"Hi," Alec mumbled dismissively, focusing on his toast and continuing to mope. "Yes such a good morning, I'm just great." His words were heavily sarcastic. For Alec things were not good or great, especially not with Pine. What Alec couldn't figure out was why Pine was even asking? If his actions were anything to go by, he didn't care.

Maybe leaving the tower wasn’t smart at all, since he sat down with Alec he could tell that he was in a mood with his sarcastic words towards Pine. Maybe he should have said something to him about his plan, though his plan wasn’t working that well and he was sleeping on a couch in the common room just so people thought he was living in the forest. He did sure make it look like he was, with a hammock out there that he went and sat on durning the days but when he tried to sleep out there someone was always there.

He needed to figure out a way to make it look like he wasn’t sleeping there.

Looking at Alec. “Did I do something wrong?” Pine might not think right away when he was doing something with his life, but he couldn’t get living in the tower and the forest back home was his home. While the forest here wasn’t the same as it was home, it was the trees that made it better.

He just hoped that him and Alec could talk about what was bothering him. Pine could tell just by the tone that being spoken to him.

Pine's question startled Alec, whose eyes widened. He paused before answering, and then quietly said, "No."

After all, Pine could do what he liked. Pine could go where he wanted. Alec was not the boss of Pine. Had he thought that they might be friends, and been looking forward to sharing a dormitory with Pine? Maybe. But clearly Pine hadn't felt the same way and if for some reason he didn't want to be Alec's friend, well, there was nothing wrong with that, was there? Alec didn't want to force anybody to be his friend, and he didn't want to tell anybody what to do. But that didn't change the fact that he'd been disappointed when Pine had gone.

What he didn't understand was why Pine was suddenly friendly again. It just didn't make sense. But at the same time, it wasn't like Alec had lots of friends, or like he had any reason not to be friendly towards Pine except that he'd felt abandoned and betrayed when Pine had left the dorm.

Alec glanced away moodily, before hesitantly looking back towards his fellow Gryffindor. "How ... how are you?" he asked, this time without sarcasm, but still not enthusiastic in his words. His guard was up.

Alex might have said that he didn’t do anything wrong, but Pine was starting to feel like he did do something wrong. Alec was one of his friend friends, one person he took a liking to before coming to Hogwarts. Beside Leon, who he did hang out with.

There was a lot to adjust to this school. Knowing that he was trying his best to feel like he was at home. He also wasn’t used to making all these friends, or people that said they were friends living in a forest he only really talked to people that lived there. His siblings and cousins.

“I’ve been fine.” It wasn’t a lie. “Been trying not to get caught in the forest. Which doesn’t work out.” It seems like there were people out there all the time keeping an eye on it. Couldn’t they just let the boy sleep their and not in the forest.

“Are you adjusting well here?” Pine wasn’t and wished he was but this place isn’t for him. Taking a bit of his toast with butter he waited.

"Why?" asked Alec, unable to help himself. "Why do you keep going to the forest if you get caught?" It didn't make sense to Alec, and if Pine was going to such lengths just to avoid him, Alec wanted to know about it. At this point, he'd rather know the truth - even if it was that Pine did not like him and had discarded their friendship - than continue to wonder about it. It seemed unnecessary to him that Pine should put so much effort into avoiding him if that was the case. Pine didn't need to inconvenience himself so much when he could just talk to Alec about it, right?

"I dunno," he replied when asked how he was adjusting. In truth he wasn't adjusting all that well - he was homesick sometimes and it still felt like he was surrounded by strangers a lot - but at the same time he supposed it could've been worse. He didn't know what to say, and even though Pine was asking Alec didn't really know whether he should say. "It's fine," he echoed Pine's words - they were half true. In ways it had been fine, but in other ways it was not so fine.

He shrugged evasively, not really wanting to talk about himself.

Pine Tree

This is so late, I kind of forgot about it sorry

That was something that was important question, he didn’t know if he had the right answer for Alec, but he was going to give the answer that he knew that was the truth to him. “I made a scene, about not wanting to live in the tower.” It was just something he didn’t think would be right, coming back to the tower the night he said he didn’t want to sleep there cause it wasn’t like home. He hated it.

Not knowing what Alec was feeling, he wished he was able to tell his friend that it had nothing to do with anyone there. It was just something that he did, for himself. He was separated from his brother, who he didn’t think he would get moved away from. He didn’t have his forest. “Also, it is so loud in the dorm room. I am used to when it gets loud in the house back home, just to go outside and sleep and listen to the creatures.”

Giving the dorm room a chance might have been better, but he didn’t. He felt bad now.

Alec said that he was adjusting fine, but he was being short with him. There was something up and he was sure Alec wasn’t going to tell him. “I am sorry, Alec. I really am. Please don’t think what I did ruined our friendship.” Hoping that it didn’t, he would be sad if it did.
