Reid's eyes widened. "Wuh-oh," he said, spying Gary get tagged - which meant he was totally next. Which could be fun even if he wasn't flaming in blue while he running after people - Reid liked being It, but only because he was actually good at it. He stood frozen for a moment deciding whether or not it would be best to make Gary work for it and hide, or -

"OI, GARY! CATCH ME IF YA CAN, YA GIT! NEENER!" he bellowed. Oh yes, his second option was much better.

Addison flew towards her and then away again and then Mercutio was by her side and the whole thing was suddenly less scary.

It had all been fun and games and then Darcy was on fire. Luckily this was not a new experience for her - finally managing to cast the Flare Charm had been far too exciting an experience to bother with things like aiming - and the natural shriek that came from the surprise of it all caught in her throat as she registered instead that these flames were blue.

Oh, and that they didn't actually hurt. That was also a nice discovery.

"Do - so do I - I catch people now?" So long as Flamel didn't hear of Darcy chasing people down, maybe that could actually be kind of fun.

It was the second time Hollis had embarrassed herself over the course of a few minutes, but luckily nobody was really noticing. After all, a game of fire tag was a lot more entertaining than some weird girl dodging into bushes and rescuing her friend from harmless blue fire. Peeking out from over the bushes, Hollis looked around disorientated.

Everyone was running and shouting, but who was chasing who?

"PSSSSSSSSSSSST!!!" She whispered from her spot in the bushes. "Who is it?"

"Can't keep up with me, Addison?" Mercutio teased as he sped right by her and didn't slow down. He was in his element right now and she was going to have to work out those lungs more if she wanted to keep up with him here as well.

"GARY'S IT, EVERYBODY RUN!" he shouted for the benefit of everyone else playing but were too far away to see what was going on. Some people had run super far, they'd probably never catch fire at this point. Mercutio kept close to the main open space to keep an eye on things. Plus, he liked the challenge of running away from everyone, even if that mean he was probably catching fire more often than not.

So far, Elaine had managed to come through this game without anyone really noticing her, just as she had planned. If she had been more popular or a more outgoing sort, she probably wouldn't have gotten away with kind of hiding out. In case, it worked out for this sort of game, as she could go around without anyone really noticing her.

She looked behind her and saw that it was that one guy from the train who her bird had inadvertently attacked. Best to stay away from him. Sprinting, she dashed off in the hopes he wouldn't come after her.

"Dude, you have really good aim," Mercutio admired as his clothes lit ablaze, as did about ten other people's. This Gary kid was really good with his wand. Reid had said something about him being a pyro? In any case, he'd caught a lot of people with his wand and eventually, one of his fellow housemates with an actual tag.

Mercutio paused in his running to stop, drop, and roll, putting out the flame before it destroyed his clothes even further. "Yo, Reid, you beast! Have you gotten caught at all yet?" Apparently the young Gryffindor was too good at running away in this game.

Waving Elaine over, he smiled encouragingly at her. "Frigidus Incendio, got it?" he prompted.

Reid cackled in response to Mercutio. "Nope!" he yelled over his shoulder. He whirled around and jogged backwards, arms spread at his sides. He didn't see the Hufflepuff boy immediately, but he was around - somewhere. "No one seems t'be capable! I am the Fla - !" he stumbled over a loose stone and the end of his sentence came to '-ack' instead '-sh.'

"Come an' get me!" he sang.

She was pretty sure there was now fist sized holes in the sleeves of her robe. That didn't even account for the holes of various sizes throughout the rest of her robe and maybe even sweater. Nash knew she couldn't complain, not when she started the game of Fire Tag but when she had come up with the idea she had never intended to be on fire so long. Personally, she blamed her year mates; who was even that fast?

Apparently first years.

Peeking at Reid from the corner of her eye, Nash was pretty sure the boy had yet to feel the licking of the blue flames and so, while running from the person who was it she ran towards her friend, determined to tackle him with flames.

It would only be fair.

"REID SLOW DOWN! I GOT SOMETHING FOR YOU!"

Apparently Elaine's strategy of laying low hadn't worked out so well after all as she had been caught and was now the new 'it'. She ran over to where Mercutio was standing and nodded at his instructions. "Frigidius Incendio," she repeated making sure she had pronounced it just the way he had. Hopefully she would be able to at least catch someone with the fire freezing spell. Otherwise, she was going to be embarrassed if no one did.

Wand out in front of her, Elaine quickly began running. "Ready or not? Here I come!" she called out.

Nash bellowed his name and Reid came to a staggering halt. He whipped around the lawn to look for her and when at last he'd spied her blue flame-ringed silhouette running at him, Reid grinned. At first excitedly and then, once he'd realized what she intended, deviously. Then he opened his arms and jogged towards her. "Aw, Nash," he sang, as he enveloped the girl in a hug. "Knew you had my back!"

Now, this had to work.

Mercutio scattered with everyone else and although Elaine started quickly without a count, he pumped his arms and legs until he had left her far behind. He found a row of trees that provided a bit of shelter from her spell. Although the thin trunks in no way were able to hide his broad figure, he ducked behind each of them to keep himself a difficult target. Once, the trees flew up in flames and Mercutio nearly ran off to find another hiding spot, but he stopped to douse them with a quick"Aguamenti" first. No need to destroy Hogwarts property playing this game.

Silas Harding-Clarke

Good lord, Silas was HORRIBLE at this! Either that, or everyone else had horrible aim. He had never had this much trouble dodging spells in the Dueling Chamber, so he wasn't sure why he was so terrible at dodging the blue fire charm. Maybe it had a 200% accuracy bonus. Maybe he should try to use it for duels.

Silas made sure Grace was nowhere near him and beat the fire out of his pant leg with his own hands. It didn't burn, so that had been a decent course of action. Then he looked for Hollis. She seemed to have all of the best hiding spots, and he wanted to steal them.

"YES, fire!" Addison crowed. "Now see, Re-" Where did Reid go? She told him to stay put! And Darcy too! Addison scowled and started off to find where they had gone. "Reid! Reid where are you? Look, flame on! Darcy, Daaaaarcy, try your shower charm now!" She was moving at a jog to conserve her limited stamina when she spotted Silas and decided to go all in. She would show him who needed to get outside more often. "Oi Silas, get over here!" Nothing like a good fiery tackle to make your point.

With a devious grin on her face, Addison sprinted after him.

Hollis was amazing at this! She'd been fast enough to escape from everyone that was tagged and had dodged every fire charm sent her way. Maybe Fire Tag was her calling? However, the same could not be said for her new friend. After finding the perfect hiding spot behind a tree, too dark for anyone to see her, she caught sight of Silas who was once again on fire! As she watched him pat himself down, Hollis bit down on her lip to refrain from laughing and giving away her hiding spot.

He finally put out the fire and began to look around, clearly unaware of her presence so close by. Reaching out of the shadows, Hollis grabbed a hold of Silas's hand and tugged him behind the tree as well. "You do know you're supposed to dodge the fire, right?" She whispered, a cheeky grin on her face. What kind of friend was she if she didn't tease him a little bit?

Elaine utterly failed at being 'it'.

Although some people had caught fire, the lot of them managed to get out of her reach before she could tag them as the next 'it' person. Several times she ran up to someone only for them to quickly dash away from her. As a thin, lanky sort of girl, Elaine was not the most athletic person in the entire world. Probably the only sport she was okay at was flying and Quidditch and that was because she had worked her tail off trying to be good at it. And her parents apparently, had at least passed some of their talent onto her.

Groaning as Elaine missed someone yet again, she threw up her arms helplessly. "Merc, I give up," she told him.

Perhaps Reid should have thought twice about hugging someone that was, quite literally, aflame. Even if this fire was magical and harmless, it still should have given Reid pause, as it simply wasn't natural. It didn't though. And neither did Reid catch fire like he wanted - no matter how tightly he clung to her.

It was almost like...

"I know why I'm not catchin' on fire," Reid gasped excitedly. He let go of Nash and spread out his arms, fingers clawed, and threw back his head, howling, "FIRE CANNOT BURN A DRAGON!"His breath puffed into the chilled air for all his efforts.

Poor Elaine. She’d managed to catch a lot of people on fire, but apparently she wasn’t fast enough to actually tag them. Mercutio gave her an encouraging smile as she declared her surrender. “Aww, that’s okay. You did great!” He gave her a high five.

Meanwhile, Reid was crowing about being a dragon. Wand out, Mercutio threw a bluebell flame and him and Hollis, just to make sure the two of them didn’t feel left out simply for being too good at running away. “Good job, everyone! Make sure to put out the fire before you lose all your clothes!” Some people had caught fire so often, there were some noticeable holes in their clothes that even magic couldn't mend. “Let’s take a break to explore the rest of the festivities!”

From the looks of people’s heavy breathing, they needed water and rest.

Thanks for playing, everyone! Congratulations to Reid and Hollis, both of whom managed to evade catching fire in every round.
