.? FIRE TAG ?.

Considering there was a whole two Holiday seemingly dedicated to fire going by what the Prefects had set up, Nashira, who had just learned the spell for Blue Flames, thought it was the perfect time to set up a game of her own. Fire tag was a game rich in magical tradition after all; well, magic was used in it... As long as it fit with the theme of the night and no one was actually hurt, surely that was all that mattered and all that any Prefects or Professors would care about.

"Hey! You! Merc, right? We've dueled in the past! Come on, help me find some people, we're gonna play Fire tag! The Blonde girl in charge tonight said that it was time to start anew and burn things!" Nash grinned smugly, assured that she had found a loophole to any possible trouble. But just in case the yellow robed boy was worried...

"Don't worry, it's just Cold Fire tag, no one will actually get hurt."

.? R U L E S ?.

  • So this is an active game and requires a minimum of 50words posted every 24 hours.
  • Right now this is just 'sign-ups', but don't worry if you don't make it in this time, once the rounds are finished, the game is open for new people to join or leave as they please.
  • After the 'sign-up' round is done, actual rules will be explained.
  • Also Mercutio Bates is awesome and came up with a majority (read: all) of the rules.

.? SIGN-UP ROUND ?.

CLOSES @ 12AM CST, 11/18

Mercutio Bates

Fire tag sounded awesome. Mercutio was a boss at regular tag, freeze tag, Everybody's It tag, and Octopus. He had no doubt he'd be amazing at fire tag. "Sure, Nash! Sounds fun!" he told the Gryffindor, grinning broadly. This whole festival thing looked amazing and he needed a break from all the food he was eating. Usually he wouldn't go running for at least an hour after eating, but the night was young and you could probably only play fire tag once a year without getting thrown into detention for it.

But first, they needed to find some people to play with. Wrapping his hands around his mouth, Mercutio used his best outdoor voice and shouted, "COME OVER HERE IF YOU WANT TO PLAY FIRE TAG WITH US!" There, that ought to do it.

Elaine Stewart

Ordinarily, Elaine would have stayed away from anything with the word fire in it. Out of the four major elements, the one Elaine had affinity for was wood. She enjoyed fire from a distance and water she was terrified. Still, fire tag sounded interesting and Elaine was right in the vicinity of the boy who had yelled for fire tag.

"Hi," she said approaching the boy who had shouted. "Umm...I'll give it a try, I guess." She shrugged. Nothing bad was going to happen with cold fire, right? Besides, they were all wizards. Fire never burned real witches.

Sovren Nyx

Mercutio was at it again. Sovren’s head shot up as she heard the second year’s voice, and although fire tag sounded like something she never wanted to participate in ever, she was curious about what would unfold. The first year trotted over to the debacle and eyed the people she found there. “What’s going on? And what’s fire tag?” She asked the boy. She waved happily at Elaine, another fellow Hufflepuff.

Of course, it was then that she spied the Gryffindor. Sovren groaned and began to step away, hoping Nash hadn’t seen her. Merlin, why did she keep running into that awful girl?

Reid J. Fauchelevent

Fire? Tag? Reid's eyes widened and his whole expression lifted with excitement. This was precisely what he'd been looking forward to and he didn't even know it. How excellent that life seemed to hand him what he wanted at that particular moment?

The promise of food and a bonfire had convinced him to abandon his regularly scheduled programming and stay away from the dueling chamber - just for tonight, anyway. He'd abandoned his school uniform as well and donned a white tee instead, tying the sleeves of a red-plaid shirt around his wait and looping his Gryffindor tie around his neck for easy identification.

Reid had been headed down to the feast when he spied Nash and Mercutio announcing fire tag. Those were the only two words he needed to hear. "Hi'ya Nash!" he grinned, waving exuberantly and then rubbed his palms with anticipation. "Whose bit of genius is this?"

Gary Youdle

If the other students knew what was good for them, they would have shooed Gary away the moment that his ears perked up at the word 'fire'. After all, he had basically set their classmate ablaze during Potions class.

But hey, it had been Nathaniel's fault; he had been squirming around too much.

Despite this poor track record, the Gryffindor was still game. "Are we starting yet?" Gary inquired, poking the small of Reid's back with his thorny wand, trying to get a small flame to tickle out the end. He hadn't heard the fact that they were using cold fire.

Fire. Fire was dangerous. And fun! That was why there was a whole party night dedicated to it, right?

"So um, how do you play?" Bailey pepped up. She was assured that no one would get hurt. Well, she had heard other things about Hufflepuff games like musical chairs - but she hadn't gotten hurt in the process of her first musical chairs game. She would be alright in this one.

Kaelyn Paddock

Fire tag? Kaelyn hadn’t heard of such a thing before, but she was game. Any kind of game was cool in her books, and one involving fire sounded even more exciting. It also sounded like the sort of thing that might break a school rule, but with so many other people running up to join in with the fun, obeying rules was the last thing on her mind.

“Okay,” she said, running up to her housemate and the Hufflepuff boy. “I’ll play too.” She waved at a few of the familiar faces and wondered briefly if she needed to rescue Reid from Gary.

Hollis Irvine

Her ears perked up when Mercutio proposed a game of Fire Tag. Hollis had no idea what Fire Tag entailed, but any game of tag was okay in her book. Although she wasn't as fast on the ground as she was in the air, Hollis still fancied herself one of the fastest in her year. She loved running, she loved competition, and she'd take up any chance to kick absolute arse. And to be honest, she'd much rather spend her time playing tag than sitting around a bonfire. Parties just weren't really her thing.

"I'll play!" She volunteered, joining the group of students. "How does the game work? Teams or everyone for themselves?" She for hoped the latter. Hollis wasn't exactly the best team player.

She'd immediately wandered near when Mercutio's voice caught her attention, and by the time she arrived, a crowd of familiar faces were gathered. Nash, Sovren, Reid, Gary, and even - "Airhead!" Addison said brightly, hopping up to stand beside her friend and dormmate. "What's all this about?" She peered curiously at everyone around her; schoolyard games weren't something she was especially familiar with, given that she had always been excluded by the other children in her past classes. But now the brunette had a feeling she was more than welcome to participate in whatever event was about to unfold.

"I'm surprised you didn't come dressed up as a piece of firewood or a cloud of smoke," she teased playfully towards Kaelyn, "Or at least a firefighter." Addison hesitated in slow realisation. "...You actually do have one of those outfits, don't you..."

Hollis had better be a team player, or Silas was going to knock her off her broom during Quidditch come the first match. After, you know, pulling on her pigtails and other less obvious things. In any case, she was part of the reason that he joined the gathering on the grass, tuning in to see what exactly all the shouting was for.

"Fire tag?" he echoed many of the others, coming to stand next to Hollis. Luckily he had that burn balm left over from Potions.

Grace came running when she saw the crowd. She had no idea what it was for, but she saw her friends and didn't want to be left out. She had just caught up to Silas when she heard him say "Fire tag". Grace shuddered.

"Not real fire though, right?" Grace asked. She wasn't one to be afraid. At least she never had been afraid of much of anything before. However, after losing half a pigtail and getting second degree burns in Potions class Grace found herself feeling something that, if it wasn't fear, certainly felt an awful lot like it.

"They wouldn't actually play a game with fire, would they?" Grace asked Silas. She hadn't noticed she was doing it but she was clutching her forearm where the burn had been.

Brian Naaktgeboren

Let's be real, Brian was not good at anything. Except maybe clinging like a koala to someone. That, or a smiling contest. And, quite recently, musical chairs. That was actually a huge surprise to all, to be honest. His inability to be good at things did not stop the boy from doing all that he possibly could.

At a moment in time, Merc's voice cut the crisp air. He was talking about something called fire tag? What was first tag? Did it have any real fire? Brian's face became puzzled, but if it had Merc, he knew he'd be safe from all harm. After all, Merc's job was to protect him from everything. That's what mentors did.

Quickly clinging to Merc's broad back, the boy rested his head on the boy's shoulders. "Soooo, what's fire tag?" And tbh, could he just play the game from his vantage point? I mean, he had eaten a lot during the festivities so he was pretty much in the brink of a food coma. x.x

But really, what was fire tag???????????

Emma Harper

Amidst all the chatter and celebration around the bonfire Emma managed, by some miracle, to hear some of the other students talking about something called ‘fire tag’. Now, she knew what the game of tag involved, but she had never played it with the element of fire. But if it was only cold fire, then surely it would be safe for everyone?

Her mind was made up as soon as she spotted Nashira. Emma was familiar with the younger Gryffindor girl from the dueling chamber and, so far at least, she seemed rather likeable. Bounding over, the second year joined the group gathered around for the game. “Nash, hi! Remember me? I’ll play!”

Mercutio Bates

His call had summoned a small group of kids together. Mercutio grinned when he recognized several faces, eagerly waving them over as they approached. "It's everyone for themselves," he told Hollis. He grunted a bit when Brian latched onto his back, but he simply grinned and let his mentee cling. The extra weight hardly bothered him.

"Basically, whoever's It has to try and catch someone. You can slow people down by casting 'fridigus incendio*' at them and hope they catch fire. It's a cold fire, so you won't get hurt." That didn't mean their clothes wouldn't be damaged, but hey, if you signed up for Fire Tag, you didn't expect to stay clean.

"Okay, everybody scatter! You too, Brian. I'll be It for the first round!" As the players all dashed away, Mercutio stood in his spot and counted to twenty before shouting, "Ready or not, here I come!"

Hollis Irvine

Hollis grinned at Silas when he joined her, grateful that the two ravenclaws were slowly becoming friends. Of course she was also eager to show him up after their 4am quidditch practice and the duel they had together. She had to beat him at something, right? This would be the perfect opportunity. When Mercutio stated that it'd be every man for themselves, Hollis smiled deviously and nudged Silas with her elbow. "Think you can out run me this time?" Unlike last time, Hollis was not tired nor caught off guard. She was ready and if she was IT, she knew exactly who she was going for first.

But first Hollis had to watch out for Merc, who made it a point to go running every morning and was surely faster than the first year. She sprinted away from the boy as fast as she could, withdrawing her wand and finding a good hiding spot behind a tree. "Hey! Mercutio! I'm over here! Come and get meeee!" Not very stealthy, was she?

Sovren Nyx

Hold up, they were going to be throwing fire at each other? That was plain ridiculous and plain dangerous. Wouldn't somebody die? Sovren squinted her eyes. Sure, Merc said that it was a cold flame, but his partner in crime was Nash, and Sovren wasn't sure she should trust any activity that involved the Gryffindor girl. Plus, she was right beside him! The self proclaimed IT person! Stumbling, the eleven year old desperately took a few steps backwards before changing tactics and turning completely around to run. The sudden turn meant she had been whipped in the face by her own hair. Sovren scowled and spit the offending pieces out of her mouth with an uncharacteristic vigour.

"This is all your fault, Nash!"

Reid J. Fauchelevent

“Not yet, you pyro,” Reid snickered, arching his back away from Gary’s wand, ticklish. An excited and nervous energy filled him, wound him up until he felt he’d spring away even before the signal was given.

He didn’t have to wait long before Mercutio announced that he was It first. Nearly bouncing, Reid turned around to Gary and clapped him on the shoulder. “Mercutio’s a jogger, by the way – have fun!” he cackled and raced away. Time to see if all of his own jogging was paying off.

Silas laughed at Grace's question. "We've got to see someone being irresponsible with magic sometime," he said. "But don't worry.. after what happened in Potions, I've been working on learning a spell that shoots water, so we'll be able to put you out." he paused. "Or put me out. Or anyone."

Then he was distracted by Hollis nudging him in the side. He felt a little fuzzy, but quickly shook it off. "We'll see, I did have a pretty hefty breakfast," he said, patting his belly and pushing it out to make it as round as he could (thus causing a ridiculous arch in his back).

When all the kids scattered, Silas drew his wand and took cover behind a tree, same as Hollis, except less obvious.

Quickly, Elaine dashed away from Mercutio. Perhaps if she were to hide out somewhere, she would have less of a chance of being caught even though she was definitely not the fastest kid out there. Elaine had never fancied herself to be much of an athlete. Indeed, she was more of an indoor girl as she enjoyed taking care of plants and fixing different mechanical items. Her favorite outdoor activity was obviously flying.

Sprinting away as hard as she could, she stumbled over a twig on the ground and skinned her knee on the pavement. Gritting her teeth, she clutched at her right knee. She was definitely a sitting duck now.

Grace had never heard of cold fire unless that referred to the kind of flames made by floo powder, but those were more warm than cold and Grace had never seen them outside of a floo.

Nor was Silas' answer very reassuring. He'd put out the fire before too. That's didn't mean it didn't hurt.

Grace also didn't like how Silas wasn't paying attention to her and her concerns. He seemed much more interested in playing with Hollis, a pretty Ravenclaw girl Grace sometimes saw in the chamber. She only had to speak to Silas and he took off running in her direction without even waiting for Grace or saying goodbye or anything.

Grace stared after Silas a moment, pouting that he'd left her behind. Then she realized she'd better start running or she was going to get tagged, or worse, set on fire. Luckily running and dodging were two of the things Grace did best.

“Broomhead!” Kaelyn grinned as her roommate wandered up to join the game. “Firefighters? Are those the muggles who put out fires with those snake-like things and drive those loud cars?” Although now that Addison had brought it up, Kaelyn did wish she had thought to wear her dragon outfit that day.

It would’ve been perfect for this game, although she might count herself lucky that it wouldn’t accidentally get ruined by the blue flames.

“First one to get tagged cleans the dormitories for a week,” she said to Addison as she started running off. Maybe if she got far enough away, they might forget she was playing and not bother running after her.

"They're called hoses and fire engines, and they put out fire using water. Are you really being serious? There aren't any wizard firefighters?" She knew there was an equivalent of a police force - Grace had told her as much. And people had mentioned magical hospitals too, like the hospital wing in the school but an actual professional institution. But there weren't firefighters?

After Mercutio was done explaining the rules, she glared at him. "No leg lockers, that's cheating. I've got my eye on you!" Then she sprinted off after Kaelyn, intending to use her as a decoy in case the Hufflepuff gave chase. It was easier to follow a head of bright blonde hair...

Emma wasn’t the fastest runner, but she was good at ducking away from danger, or in this case, the spell they were using to tag each other with. Time in the dueling chamber had taught her how to avoid being hit, and she hoped it would come in useful here. Then again, being outside on the open lawns meant there were fewer obstacles to use as a shield. She would just have to be quick and hope for the best.

“Oops!” Emma giggled as she nearly ran right into one of the other players. Perhaps she didn’t have the greatest sense of direction, either.

"Nooooooooooooooo!" Brian clung a little harder, but ultimately knew that he had to let Merc go. It was hard for him, though. Merc was, quite possibly, the cuddliest teddy bear that Brian had ever owned. And by owned, he meant that he actually owned Mercutio the Teddy Bear. True story. I mean, Merc was his mentor, so didn't that mean that Brian actually own him now?

Yes, yes it did.

Running away from his teddy bear, the boy almost ran over another girl who was also in the game. "Sorry!" Brian called after her at the same time she called oops at him. Craning his head back to see Merc still counting, the boy turned his running speed to 7 and sprinted farther away until his fatigue took its toll.

Wouldn't be too long, though. He didn't exercise.
