Virtual Hogwarts is a non-profit, non-commercial community. We collect little personal information aside from what is collected by our server and forum software in the course of its operation. Please note that Members are prohibited from posting personal identifying information (such as their real names, addresses or phone numbers) on the board or in their profiles.

The following information is either required for registration or collected by our software or server during normal use of our website.

- Length of visit, page views, website navigation and any other related browsing activity
What we do with the information we collect:
The information you provide to us is required for, but not limited to, the following reasons:
- to deliver the content of our website correctly
- to optimize the content of our website
- to compile statistics and analyze traffic and usage
- to communicate with you (email announcements or newsletters)
- to ensure site rules are being followed (for example, identifying alternate accounts)

We will not sell, distribute or lease your personal information to third parties unless we have your explicit permission or are required by law to do so. We are committed to ensuring that any information you provide to us is secure. To prevent unauthorised access or disclosure, we have put in place safeguards to secure the information we collect.
You are responsible for taking steps to ensure your own account's security. Please use a strong password on both your account and its associated email account. Don't share your password.
You also have the option to activate ‘two factor authentication’ in your account settings. This is a recommended step to take after registering, though not mandatory. To use this additional security setting you will need access to a smart mobile phone and download the Google Authenticator app or other authentication applications that are supported.

The IP addresses of computers used to visit our website are stored in our database. This includes when first registering for an account, managing your account details, writing a private or public message, or performing any other transaction which results in data being transferred to or from your computer.
Your IP address is not visible to the public at any time. However, site moderators are able to view them.

Controlling your personal information:
When using our website, you may choose to limit public viewing of applicable personal information through the settings located in your personal account.
We may use your personal information to send you site information or other information pertaining to your account. You can adjust what types of communication you prefer to receive in your Account Settings.
You may request a copy of any information that we hold that could potentially identify you as an individual.
You may also request that we delete your account and all information held in relation to it. Please note that after your account is deleted, your content (posts, topics, images) will remain but they will be attributed to "Guest". Any IP address information stored in relation to that content will be removed.
