. . . It had taken her a while to figure out what she was going to get. It couldn't be a cat, or a rat, or a toad, or an owl. If their parents didn't already have those animals at home, any older siblings or cousins already attending Hogwarts likely had them, and even if that wasn't the case for all of them, those were the animals they'd be seeing all the time in their commons and dorms as soon as they got to Hogwarts. Delaney wanted something a bit more interesting for them.
. . . Eventually she'd settled on a miniature pig, and a double ended newt. She was fairly confident most of their students hadn't had a lot of interaction with either animal, and they were just so cute she couldn't resist! Arriving early to PHP on the morning they'd decided to introduce the new animals to their students, Delaney grinned at Astrid as the animals wandered around the room. "I am a bit worried about one of them stepping on the newt or it sneaking into their bags and going home with them or something. We'll need to make sure they're accounted for before the kids leave every day."
. . . Walking over to the chalkboard and waving her wand at a piece of chalk, she turned to Astrid. "So, we're letting them suggest the names, and then we'll vote? Or, let the mentors vote? Sorry, what was the plan again?" She sometimes had the bad habit of not paying close enough attention to details. But fortunately, Astrid was always on top of these things.
. . . "Loki, no!" Astrid laughed as her fluffy white cat stalked curiously after the little pig, swatting its curly-tailed bum as it oinked and waddled away as quick as its stubby legs would carry it. The cat "mrr'ed" and jumped up onto a shelf near the door, ready to swat at the first ickle head who entered the classroom. He never really hurt them, but some jumped satisfyingly, so he always tried.
. . . "This was such a great idea," she gushed for about the thousandth time, thrilled to have the new additions to the classroom. "We should definitely make sure they're all accounted for every day. The piggy might be tough to slip in a bag, but the newt, no so much." Or was it newts? She still wasn't quite sure what was the appropriate designation for the critter(s?).
. . . "We'll work something out with the voting," she added, not too worried about it. She wanted to involve their mentors, definitely, but of course she and Mrs B. would review the list before letting the ickles vote for their favorites, and she mentioned as much. Everything would be just ducky!
. . . The ickles had begun filing in, and Astrid clasped her hands gleefully as she watched their faces light up upon noticing the new pets. "You guys are so lucky," she said happily as everyone took their seats with a bit more excited chatter than usual. "Mrs Blithe has got a few special somethings for all of us to share!" And she gestured for the older woman to reveal the exciting news, reaching down to pick up the newt and ready to display it, since it wasn't quite so visible as the minipig.

PHP is getting pets this year! I hope you're all excited. Mrs Blithe has gone and bought herself a miniature pig and a double ended newt that she'll be bringing with her to PHP all summer. You're all welcome to RP interacting with them in your classroom RPs & HW as well as RPs in Crystal Fountain Park. We do ask that you be nice to them of course, but we're hoping this gives you all a little something extra to add to your RPs. And don't forget about Loki, Miss McManus' Turkish Angora!
Feel free to post here, RPing your reaction to the news about the new pets, and if you'd like to suggest names for them, simply post the code below at the bottom of your post with your name suggestions. We'll probably close this in a week or two, so get your posts in here! Once we've narrowed down to the top three names for each category, you'll all be able to vote on your favorite, and the names with the most votes wins!
The gender of the animals is currently unspecified, so you may suggest either male or female names, or ambiguous ones!
