Prefects and Head Boy/Head Girl

. . .Just like in the books, Prefects and the Head Boy and Girl are chosen from fifth, sixth, and seventh year students who have shown an exemplary effort in lessons, conduct, reliability, and general leadership qualities. They are mentors and police both, offering guidance to other students and watching for rulebreakers, and generally being role models.

. . .On VH, Prefects and Head Kids are chosen by an ANCIENT, SECRET FORMULA. However, if you want to be considered for the position, it's advisable to be active in general on the site, do your homework, stand out to your Head of House and Professors through classwork and your willingness to help, and set a good example to other students.

House Points

Just like in the books, Sorted students are able to earn and lose House Points!

So how do I LOSE House Points?

. . .Simply put, if you break a rule, you could be at risk of losing House Points.

. . .See Swott's excellent list of In-Character Rules to learn how to stay out of trouble... or get into it!

. . .While you're at it, make sure you've read the entire Rules and Guidelines thread to be sure you know the difference between In Character and Out of Character rule infractions, and their consequences.

. . .And guess what.... even Detention can be fun!!

. . .Another way to lose them, a bit more serious, is if you post an answer to someone's question (or something otherwise irrelevant to asking a question of your own or having it answered) in the Questions and Answers forum. Always read the rules of any forum before posting!

Okay, so how do I EARN House Points?

. . .Lots of ways! Professors can give or take House Points at their discretion, and may award you for doing something nice, or helping them grade lessons. You also gain Points for doing your lessons! Those are usually posted at the end of term or VH year, with grades.

. . .Your House may also offer ways to earn House Points, so be sure to watch your Common Room for announcements.

Can I earn/lose House Points before I'm Sorted?

. . .Unfortunately, no, because you have no House affiliation yet!

. . .There have been a few very severe infractions in VH history that have resulted in detention and/or point loss against future Houses, but they have been rare instances. If you stay within reasonable guidelines, you should be fine. If you are ever unsure about something, you may pose the question in the Questions and Answers forum or PM a professor, prefect, or mod for guidance.
