Seminar: How to Succeed at Quidditch Without Really Trying

HOW TO SUCEED AT QUIDDITCH WITHOUT REALLY TRYING
AKA FOULS

Abby was absolutely ecstatic. She was back on Hogwarts' grounds. More importantly, she was back on the Quidditch Pitch, where she truly belonged. Okay, that was a bit dramatic because anyone who knew Abby knew where she really belonged was with Trish with Grover and Finch nearby, but still. The Quidditch Pitch was like Abby's second home at Hogwarts, and it was important to her that it was being taken care of.

It wasn't, not like she wanted. They had torn it up for some tournament that wasn't Quidditch the year before, and although Abby was glad that Hogwarts had kicked Bulgarian and French arse in said tournament, she had been terrified of what her Pitch would look like upon returning. The twenty-something (because we're not good at math and it's rude to ask a lady her age) surveyed the Pitch as the hour for her seminar came upon them.

Perfect.

"Hello, students!" she said cheerfully, feeling terribly old when she saw a few familiar faces in the crowd. "Today, we're doing a seminar about the different fouls in Quidditch. I wanted to make this a mini scrimmage where using fouls gave you extra bonuses, but they wanted to steer clear from that so, we're mixing things up." Abby handed two pieces of parchment to two students up front, with a pen attached. "Please sign up for one of the two teams, and then when everyone's signed up, we'll get started!"

CAPTURE THE FLAG, GOODFELLOW STYLE

For the next twenty-four hours, this thread will be open to sign ups only. People can sign up for as long as the seminar runs, so don't worry if you missed the first twenty-four hour mark. The game I have in mind will just make it easier for us to have a few teammates sorted before the game starts. It’s open to everyone, whether you know anything about Quidditch fouls or not. The two teams are TEAM ANACONDA - 006800 and TEAM JAWS - 808080 because Abby has a clear bias, but also muggle horror movies FTW. Please put your name, house, and the team you've chosen at the top of your sign up post, which should include a 50 word RP because then at least Abby has something to react to when I post again in 24 hours.

((And yes, there will be QP earned for this, so come join us, don’t be shy))

Team JAWS

The Muggles had a saying about buses. Not that Sabine had ever been on one, but she knew the phrase – and the fact it was not literal. But, to use the maxim here, you wait ages for a quidditch seminar, and then two come along at once. Not that Sabine was complaining.

Sabine was pleased to see yet another face greeting them as the teacher for this seminar. Not that the others weren’t competent, but rather Sabine’s view on learning was to get the opinion of as many different experts as you could. It broadened your knowledge base and if there was conflict in advice, gave you the opportunity to compare, contrast and settle on a best course of action.

Sabine’s usual cheery smile slipped somewhat as the seminar began. She was as competitive as the next ‘win-at-all-costs’ person, but did not approve of cheating. In any form. And fouling was – in her opinion – nothing less than an attempt to cheat. But she had no intention of leaving – and instead decided to use the knowledge to her advantage. Knowing how you could be fouled, meant you could think of ways to avoid being fouled. Her smile returned with interest!

So, when the first parchment headed her way, she signed up gladly.

Cordelia Waldegrave

Cordelia Waldegrave

Sixth Year

Hufflepuff

TEAM ANACONDA

The only reason Cordelia had even wandered down to the quidditch pitch that day instead of attempting to train Satan Macronni Roux was because she managed to go into full Mummy Waldegrave mode and guilt trip herself into going or else she would be a terrible captain. That, and well there was no training Satan. The name should have said it all, but Cordelia was about as sharp as Q-Tip, so much that even Satan going all Tasmanian devil on her corner when she had put a leash on him wasn't enough to have her give up.

She did perk up about once she had learned about today's topic. "You all better be careful. These boney elbows were made for COBBING!"

Abby raised an eyebrow at the teams that surrounded her. It seemed like people were hardly as excited as she was for this. That was fine, she could make use of this. "I appreciate your enthusiasm, Waldegrave," she said with a chuckle. "Alright, you've got your teams. You've got your fouls. Get on with it! I want a foul and filthy game!" Abby said, grinning as she blew her whistle.

CAPTURE THE FLAG, GOODFELLOW STYLE: THE RULES

Each team has a flag on the middle pole on their side of the Quidditch Pitch and their goal is to get to the other side and/or prevent people from getting to their side of the pitch using fouls, listed here. Your sectors are similar to the way Quidditch works (S1 is closest to your goals, S5 is the opponent's goals). Each action will require a dice roll on whether or not the move is successful.

For example: Player One Cobbs Player A to get to S3 and rolls a 16. Another player (whether Player A or one of Player A's teammates) can use a foul (say Blatching) to knock Player One off course. Player B rolls an 18. My post in regards to their success would be as such:

Player One successfully manages to Cobb Player A to enter S3, but Player B successfully collides with Player One and sends them back to S2.

Player One is in their S2.

Player A is in S3.

Player B is in S3.

In order to win the game (or at least a round, depending on how fast it happens), a player can either successfully Haversack the goal, which can be thwarted with a higher roll, or have three players of one team in their S5 who successfully manage to Stooge the goals. They can have three attempts to stooge every 24 hours.

If you guys have any questions/comments/concerns, let me know! I'm available via PM or Discord.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

Desmond Potter

Desmond Potter | Hufflepuff | Fifth Year | Post One | 154
Team Jaws

They had to sign up for teams. So they could work on fouls. Desmond was just wishing that there was a normal game, but this wasn’t something he liked. But he was still hear because he was going to have to learn about things, fouls were something that was interesting in the game. Fouls were things that others hated but Desmond wouldn’t mind causing a few fouls in a game.

Desmond wouldn’t have mind being on Cordy’s team, since she was the captain for Hufflepuff. Though Desmond was just going to be there, on another team and he was going to try and Cobb her. That was one foul that he has never seen happen in a quidditch game at all.

“Watch out Cordy.” He said as he was trying to Cobb her, because why not. This was supposed to be capture the flag and he wanted to get the flag.

Desmond tries to Cobb Cordelia
