Hufflepuff Musical Chairs

Recommended Posts

Ethan Smith

This was a first for him, hosting the classic game for Hufflepuff. Finding a small table and some old records that he was sure was Gawkrodgers. Since he was the muggle study professor, the turntable was enchanted to play the music that he happened to find. Setting up the chairs, enough for all the players to sit on. Minus one, he felt like it was time to start this magical game.

He just had to wait for everyone to show up. Looking around, thinking that everyone was there. "Welcome to the annual Hufflepuff Game. I hope you all now the rules of musical chairs, but the main one you need to worry about. When the music stops, you take a seat." He hoped that they were all going to enjoy this. Placing the first record on, the music started playing.

THE RULES

1. The game is broken up into two sections: The WALK and the SCRAMBLE.

A ) The WALK lasts up to 48 hours, players don't have to post during the walk, but it is good for RPing purposes. It is where players walk around the chairs while they wait for the music to stop. Non-players/spectators are encouraged to post during the WALK.

B ) The SCRAMBLE lasts for 24 hours. Players are required to post here within 24 hours of me posting 'SCRAMBLE.' Last person to post is out, if you do not post within the 24 hours, you are also out. Non-players/spectators may not post during the SCRAMBLE.

2. Only posts with 100 words or more will be accepted.

3. You may only edit your post within FIVE MINUTES of your initial post. If you edit after 5 minutes have passed, the post is void. If this happens, you may repost using the same RP if you wish.

Harlow Carr

As she headed out to the lawn that day, Harlow wondered whether magic musical chairs was the same as the one she had played at many birthday parties before. Were the chairs going to start flying? Were they going to disappear and reappear? Before she had the chance to ask, the game had already started. She skipped along, curls bouncing to the music.

"We meet again common room flooder," she turned momentarily and grinned, greeting @Henry Sanders-Banagher behind her.

It was out of boredom that Jack found herself stuck in a game of Musical Chairs. It had nothing to do with the fact that @Ethan Smith was hosting it and anyone who said otherwise was wrong and deserved to have a Furby thrown at their face.

Besides, this was the only acceptable version of the Hunger Games for Hufflepuff and Jack was prepared to win. The odds were forever in her favor, and if they weren't well then, a girl was about to make them be.

"When the music stops you push a loser out of the way to get a chair," she grinned, aware that she'd said it loud enough for Ethan to hear her.

He could fight her.

They all could.

Ceris Powell

Ceris was so excited for the start of musical chairs. After seeing the sign up posted in the Common Room, she squeed loudly as she quickly ran across the floor to the sheet. Beaming to herself, she scribbled her name (along with her precious Princess Lillypad, her faithful companion toad ever since the terrible death of Prince Hangleberry). “We are doing this together,” she told her pet proudly, stroking her slimy head as she placed the precious girl on her shoulder. “I hope you are ready to fight.”

After receiving a spiritual blessing from Z that mostly just consisted of him ‘channeling his energy into her’ and a quick hug from Hawk as he squeezed her hand as a simple gesture for luck, Ceri was on her way to play musical chairs.

This time, she wanted to win. Watch out little first and second years, Ceris Daffodil Powell planned to knock everybody out. (Okay, maybe not. That sounded really mean, and Princess Lillypad might get hurt in the process! But she really hoped to win!)

This was something he was not used to,standing next to the music player and getting ready to make it stop. He remember when he was younger and would make sure to always be playing this game. Now he was making sure that the others who were playing were having fun. Watching as they all lined up and started to walk around the chairs. Ethan heard Jack say something about pushing people. "If I see any pushing from you Jack, I will make sure that you are not playing anymore." He smiled and looked at the others. "Also to make this interesting this year, the winner will get a one of a kind furby." That might make people want to get to their seats a little fast.

And with that, he flicked his wand and the music stopped.

"Fight me," Jack grinned, extending the challenge because she knew that in public, Ethan risked a repeat of the common room incident (how Jack managed to pull that scheme off without Pandora realizing she was faking it was beyond her and impressive).

"Walk faster," she grumbled, occasionally leaning towards the chairs just in case the music stopped at any second. She wasn't going to be one of the losers who were out after the first round.

And at the mention of the Furby, Jack stopped, not caring the slightest bit for the fact that there were people behind her. "Furby now."

With the music stopped she jumped onto the nearest chair, "FURBY NOW!"

Her roommate was quite the bellicose one... Harlow eyed Jack, silently glad she wasn't in front of or behind of her roommate. As much as she liked her, her obsession with furbies really was quite concerning sometimes. Harlow wished she felt so blindly passionate about something, enough to want to fight people over. It was almost inspiring, if she wasn't somewhat of a pacifist.

Suddenly seeing Jack scramble, Harlow flailed around a little bit, leaping for a chair. It all seemed hardly worth it when Ethan announced the prize was going to be a furby.

They all knew that whoever won, Jack was going to fight that person for it anyway.

“Well, I mean, I guess that’s me,” Henry muttered when Harlow mentioned the flood. He hadn’t meant to cause the flood, he’d only wanted to investigate the coin that he has found. But, it hadn’t exactly gone to plan.

As soon as the music stopped, he scrambled to find a seat. He didn’t have any illusions of being able to win the entire game, but he definitely didn’t want to be out in the first round. If he could make it that far, he would consider himself satisfied.

He hadn’t played musical chairs before, and he was concerned that he hadn’t remembered the rules correctly. Hopefully he had. This was a muggle game after all, so he was pretty sure it might take him some time to learn it properly.

Julie Wilson

Julie was very excited after hearing about the musical chairs game. It sounded very fun and because she really enjoyed playing different games, she wrote her name on the sheet without even thinking much. As the day had finally arrived and she was walking around the chairs with the other players, she felt almost as happy as when she was on her way to Hogwarts. She didn't think she could win, but at least she could have a bit of fun. And besides, Julie liked the muggle song that was playing at the moment. She almost didn't notice that the music had stopped until the other players around her started scrambling. She quickly took a seat and breathed a sigh of relief. At least she had a chance in this game, she was small and quick.

A one of a kind furby?

Ceris tended to stay out of Hufflepuff politics when she could simply because most of her housemates tended to scare her with their obsessions with normally mundane things. Of course, the fifth year had never claimed to be the most normal either, but there was no threat of death when she was around! The furbies were always something that baffled her, but she always just assumed that it was something she didn’t understand.

Seeing as Hawk seemed just as confused as she was, Ceri took it as she wasn’t completely alone. Trudging through the grass, she continued in the appointed order before she heard the music stop. Throwing herself in a chair, she let out a deep sigh of relief when she made it just in time.

Musical chairs sounded like a game she could handle, although when Addy found out that Ethan was running it she almost wanted to back out considering how well his Furby game always seemed to go over.  She even contemplated wearing some of the quidditch padding that she had for her attempt at making the team but decided that would probably send the wrong message and opted against it.

No, the second year showed up for the game looking as normal as could be and joined her housemates, falling into rotation behind her roommate with apprehension, and began to walk around the circle of chairs.  "He's a bit obsessed with them, isn't he?" She leaned forward and asked @Jacqueline Frost with a small smile, hoping to patch things over, as the music stopped.

Phillip shrugged, there was no way that he particularly cared about a one-of-a—kind furby because a)those were for girls and b) he really thought Ethan should have his priorities straight. Still, he did make a beeline for a chair though he obviously was approaching this as more of a thing to win than as a way to have fun.

So he’d stomped to a seat and then proceeded to sit there, sullen and silent and obviously sulking – he may have to do this now that he signed up (he’d wanted  and needed to be in Fiona’s group) but they couldn’t make him enjoy himself.

"You have to win, the correct way to get a furby." Ethan told Jack, because he wasn't just going to give her another one. At least not unless she won this game. Maybe saying that the furby would be the prize wasn't the best thing, but he had to try something. Most of these people were young students. Beside Phillip and Ceris. So he thought those toys would be best for people to want to win.

Though he just didn't know at all.

Once all the players were sitting down, he looked up to the music box and grabbed another record to start playing

Henry breathed a sigh of relief. He was glad that he wasn't eliminated in the first round. He did feel a bit bad for the girl who was eliminated first, however. But mostly, he was glad that it wasn't him. It gave him a small sense of satisfaction that he'd made it to the next round, and after this round, any others that he survived would be pure bonuses.

When Prefect Ethan mentioned that if one of the girls won she'd get a furby, he frowned. He hadn't heard anything about prizes. At least, not to his recollection. "If I win, can I have something other than a furby?" If he was remembering correctly, furbys were small and creepy little creatures that he sometimes saw commercials for on the television. He did feel bad thinking of a creature as creepy, but since furbys weren't real, maybe they wouldn't resent him for it.

Knowing that not everyone would want a furby, he heard the young first year ask if he could get something that wasn't a furby. "Sure thing." He called out as he watched them go around and around. It was a lot different being on this side, maybe he would enter it once again his seventh year. If he wasn't hosting the event again. But right now he was waiting for the perfect moment to turn off the music.

And it came. Now he just had to see people go crazy trying to find a seat. This was his favorite part.

Jack couldn't help but laugh as she overheard the request between Henry and Ethan. "If you win, you give me the Furby." But let's be real here first she sabotaged Henry before letting him win over her.

Jack wasn't a (skilled) duelist, wasn't remotely close to being what could be considered a quidditch player - it was stupid games like these where she was able to excel and prove she was actually worthy of being the supreme leader.

And because a Supreme Leader never failed, as soon as the music was done she kicked over some empty chairs before standing on the chairs again.

"JUST GIVE ME THE FURBY!" Jack yelled at Ethan, "I'LL NAME THIS ONE LEE!!"

A hop, skip, and a jump had Ceris racing around the circle of chairs as she continued on with the music. So far, she had done well to pay close attention to everything that was happening around her, but her brother Zanskar had just made an appearance as he watched her careful performance from his perch in a nearby tree.

“Pssst, Z, go away! I’m trying to win,” she muttered, eyes serious as she stared down the Ravenclaw. It seemed that Z was completely disregarding everything Ceris was saying as he got ready to begin his meditation.

Why were brothers so stupid?

She almost allowed herself to get completely distracted with it all when the music stopped, and it was showtime. Throwing her body in a chair, she kept her fingers crossed, hoping that she made it this time.

As Julie was walking around the chairs again, she made a promise to herself that she wouldn't miss the music stopping this time. And so, right away when the music stopped, she quickly jumped to the nearest chair. She'd done it and she could continue the game, and that made her very happy. She really wanted a furby, they were cute, and so she decided to do her very best to win. But she wouldn't mind losing, this was after all supposed to be just a fun game. Some people however, like Jacqueline Frost, seemed to take it a bit too seriously, and that annoyed Julie.

Oh, so there was an option of an alternative prize?  That was cool.  But they clearly needed help with their prizes so Phillip figured he’d leave a pile of little wooden thingies behind when he left school.   That day seemed like it might come sooner rather than later. He did wonder what the alternative prize was but…

No, focus on that later.  Right now, your job is to sit your butt on a chair.  Right, done.  Was it really necessary to glower at everyone while he did it though?  No, no, it  was not.  Was Phillip going to do so anyway?  Yes, yes, he was.

Jack ignored her in favor of shouting nonsense about the furby prize.  How Addy could have let it slip her mind that her roommate was probably more obsessed with the terrifying fake creatures then the weird prefect she wasn't sure.  Perhaps she was just being optimistic.   Maybe she should just bow out now.  It wasn't like she would want the furby.  She'd even consider giving it to her roommate as long as the girl promised not to throw it at her, otherwise it was going to @Jaxon Sinclair as a token of appreciation.

The music started again, and very quickly - suddenly - stopped.  Addy fought her way into a chair again even through her reservations.

Phew- Harlow had made it through the first round with relative ease. She was glad there weren't many people to begin with, because a girl of her petite stature would definitely have struggled among the masses. Her interest perked once she overheard Ethan saying that there were alternative prizes available, though she already knew Jack was in her zone- the furby crazed zone. See, she had even already picked out a name for it.

The music stop, and everyone was really on the ball. She scrambled for a chair quickly, careful not to shove those around her too hardly. She was rarely ever this competitive...

He wasn't just going to give it to Jack, that wasn't going to happen. This time she was going to have to earn it, since it was something she wanted. And the last time they talked, she wasn't willing to help him out with anything. If he would ever need help with anything from her. "I don't care what you name it, you have to win it first." Rolling his eyes, he watched the students all get into their chairs, and seeing that Jack knocked some down. "If you knock another chair, you will be banned from this game for the rest of my time here Jack." He wanted to take her out now, having a feeling that was the reason Henry didn't get one. But there were more Hufflepuff's here and he had to just stand there and not do anything wrong.

Since he was a prefect, and didn't want anyone to see the things he has done to Jack before.

The music started up again, another classic

Tensions were rising. Was Ethan going to rule the game to his word and ban Jack? Why was she like this anyway? She liked her roommate, but she really did ask for it sometimes. Harlow stayed focused on the music, although her light-hearted skipping had since ceased.

"Jacqueline Frost...." He looked at the second year and gave him a look a mother would give their kid. If Ethan even knew what that look was. "You are going to get kicked out of the game, I swear." He wanted to silence her and vine hex her, but he couldn't do that with everyone else watching them at this moment. Ethan was not happy at this moment, so he turned the music off and watched what would happen. Because the second that they are done, Ethan was going to get the second year. But no one was able to watch it, because he had to be the perfect prefect.
