Cosette Mercier

Holding her sketchbook as she went to the lakefront, she come to learn after last year this was one of her favorite spots. She was able to sit there and feel the breeze from the lake making it nice and cool. While it was something she loved, it was one thing that she did care about at Hogwarts. There was a lot of open places that she was able to go. Knowing that she was supposed to be working on her homework assignment from charms. She wasn't able to get the charms done, and her essay grade wasn't the best.

She didn't worry about it at all, she just would draw and not worry about it. She might have gotten a T on it, and it might have helped if she would have tried a little harder on her essay, but she didn't know how that was going to be possible, when she wasn't able to get the fireproofing charm to even work out correct at all.

That was why she was here, not trying to cry over her grade, she felt like doing a drawing would be the best thing she could do. Sitting the paper next to her, with a rock on top of it, and started to draw herself preforming the spell correct, though she knew she couldn't do it in class at all.

Alex thought to bring himself outside for a change. All his stints dueling indoors plus spending his studying in the library is making him look paler than he would like. He knew the holidays were coming up and that means he gets to come home soon. Mum would be worried at the pallor of his skin and figure that he wasn't getting out much. He sadly didn't get to adhere to his Mum's wishes of being more proactive in making friends. His made a lot of acquaintances through dueling but kept to himself the rest of the time.

There were quite a number of people at the lakefront today. Probably a number of them wanted to catch up on tanning before the sun takes a hiatus for winter. Alex was looking forward to his first snow season at Hogwarts, maybe he'll even indulge himself in some snow ball fights (if he can find someone to do it with) and skating. The best part of the season however, is drinking hot chocolate with mini marshmallows in front of a roaring fireplace. He liked his extra dark and with extra marshmallows.

But enough about that, Alex was outside, carrying some notes from his Astronomy class. He found that class pleasant, looking at the heavens was relaxing plus it was something his muggle self was already acquainted with so not much shock value. The young ravenclaw looked around for a nice spot when a gust of wind separated one of his sheets from the rest, blowing it away. He squealed in surprise, chasing after the lone page, hoping it doesn't end up getting flown into the lake...

...spoiler alert, it didn't. It instead stopped under a tree, where another student was sitting. A an older ravenclaw girl Alex hasn't seen around here before. The upperclassmen do not tend to hang out with his lot, not that he did a lot of hanging out in the first place. He waited a few seconds to catch his breath before pointing to the direction of the rogue page. "Hi-- uh-- is my page bothering you? The wind blew it away..."

Alvis Anderson

After a good morning of duelling, Alvis' most favourite past time at the school, he came across the lawns and headed for the lake. His newest activity came in the form of the magical creature internship, he was studying the Plimpy a water fish that had legs and small sharp teeth, although not that impressive or useful he'd chosen it for it's wide use in potions and it's oddness being rather odd himself.

Once he'd managed to catch one of the legged fish, he looked over his shoulder and  spotted a familiar face from the duelling chamber darting after a peace of parchment the wind had blew out of his grasp and as he approached another familiar face, someone from Alvis year but from Alex's house. ''Howdy Alex, Howdy Cosette! Have you two met? Alex Cosette! Cosette Alex! Need a hand?'' Alvis normally was rubbish with names but having duelled the young eagle often thus far and Cosette and Cosette found her self the worse of one of professor Knaggs lessons last year, Alvis had them in his memory banks.

Remembering he had a Plimpy in his arms, Alvis quickly rushed back to the waters edge and released the fish back into the lake, ''Sorry about that!''

It was quiet for a while, and she was enjoying that much. She hoped that it would be like that, sure there were other students that were walking around and doing random things but Cosette wasn’t paying attention to that at all. What caught her attention was that there was a piece of paper that got close to her, and she didn’t now what in the world is came from at all. It shocked her that someone was letting their papers just fly around, but she wasn’t someone to judge at all. Things happened, her failed paper was under a rock at the moment anyway, hoping that no one would see it.

She didn’t know people to now that she wasn’t someone that did well in classes, she was supposed to be a Ravenclaw, but she knew that if she wasn’t able perform the spell right she wouldn’t have been able to write a good paper at all.

As the person who’s paper was next to her came over, she looked up and saw that it was a younger student “It’s.. it’s fine.” She was able to say, and hoping that might have been the rest of it but then before she new it someone else walked towards them and just started to talking.

At this moment Cosette wished she could be left alone, but it seems like that wasn’t going to happen at all. Asking if they needed a hand, and this name was Alex. “I’m just… just drawing.” She said to the Gryffindor that was in her year. This was her favorite place and what would she needed a hand for.

The sound of a familiar voice made Alex turn around. He's never seen Alvis outside of the dueling chamber before and was under the impression that sort of encounter would be rather odd. Reality however, was far from different. The older gryffindor was just as good natured outside the chamber and seemed to have that fun quirkiness that always made their duels interesting. His features seemed a little more defined though, most likely because they were out in natural light as opposed to the chamber's dim lighting. "Hey Alvis! I'd ask for a duel but I don't think it's allowed out here" He laughed at his own perceived wit, hey he makes jokes now! Did't seem that long ago when he could barely utter a sentence with stuttering.

So these two knew each other. Alex wasn't surprised as they do look like they were about the same age, and everyone knew everyone around here. Well except him but that's mostly because of reclusive habits. "Oh hi Cosette, nice to meet you.. I'm Alex, uh well Alvis already mentioned that but yeah." Cosette seemed rather uncomfortable about the encounter, perhaps their arrival has disturbed her peace and quiet time? He blames the runaway page... oh wait, he was here because of the page!

"Thanks" He mumbled retrieving the lone piece of paper and securing it in his grasp. He didn't want to risk running  to the next tree lest it escapes again. Cosette mentioned something about drawing which got him intrigued. Arts and crafts wasn't in his line of talent In fact, Alex couldn't get past drawing stick figures.

"Oh what are you drawing?"

Professor Qin was right about Alvis' choice of creature for his internship, neither of the two asked him what he was holding and this could have been their own personal lack of outgoing that he knew Cosette had but not so much Alex, however Alvis wasn't pondering over this possibility as he always well all most always thought well of people but this time he just thought that the fish just wasn't interesting enough!

''Oh! Erm OK. oooo yes what are you drawing me dear?'' Alvis was really asking Alex if he needed a hand but maybe he didn't word it very well as Cosette thought he was talking to her. Anyway his attention was a little displaced at the moment as he was trying to hear what the two eagles had to say along with keeping an eye on the legged fish he had placed within the section of water in the lake Professor Qin had made last time for him to study the Plimpy. ''Not the most extravagant or magical creature but useful in potions and finding if Merfolk are in the vaccinate!  It's a Plimpy!''

Sitting there, she felt like she was alone again. Since the two boy seemed to know one another and were talking about dueling, which was something Cosette didn’t like at all and didn’t want to do ever again in her life. Though she was sure that she would find herself in the dueling chamber again at some point this year. Professor Foster would make sure that was something that would happen. Because she thought that dueling was good for them.

“He did.” She laughed a little, and placed her hand in front of her mouth when she did. Laughing wasn’t something that she did that often at all, it was a little odd for it to happen with something that she didn’t know that well and with someone that she did know. She felt that her and Alvis were friends since they did have that one conversation last year. She still rather keep to herself.

What was she drawing? That wasn’t something she was used to answering. “Just the… just the lake here.” It wasn’t anything that was fancy at all, it was just something she did when she need to step away from the magical world. “And care… creatures that I think… think live here.” It might not be the best thing, but it was something that she hoped.

Knowing that she heard about the creatures that lived here, though she has never seen one.

Alex looked from one older student to the other, should he give them the space to talk? Was he the odd one because they weren't classmates while the other had two years to socialize? He looked at his sneakers absently before looking back up. He isn't used to being in a crowd, not that two other is what technically a crowd is, but after spending most of his time keeping to himself belonging to a group of three seems rather overwhelming. He was far from being a social butterfly after all.

"Ahh I need to sit down, it's getting a bit stuffy don't you think?" Alex looked around, wondering if either of them will agree with him. So Cosette was drawing, he peered at the artwork and said "Oh that's pretty, I can't draw at all.." laughing nervously to punctuate the awkwardness that seemed to diffuse in the air. Or maybe it was just him, he wasn't used to having this much avenue socially. His eyes wandered about to Alvis who's hands are still rather damp from holding a fish-like creature just a few seconds ago.

"Al, what was that you put in the lake?" Word on the block is that mermaids inhabit the lake, but Alex doubted that thing the older boy was holding is one of them. Then again, the only mermaids he's seen are from movies back home. So here he was expecting them to have long red hair, purple seashell bras, and the tendency to burst out in showtunes.

Alvis Anderson

Subtle was something Alvis had been trying to work on over the past few weeks and months after his bad reactions with fellow students from last year, however he still didn't really grasp the fine art just yet but he was getting better. ''Oh, I think it's a marvellous theme for a drawing my dear! I love the lake here, so many hidden creatures to discover!''

Alvis then turned to Alex who asked about his creature, ''It's a Plimpy Al! A magical fish with legs, not many things it can do but goes in a lot of potions and handy way to know if mer-folk  are in the area, they find the Plimpy to be pests and will tie their legs together.'' Some knowledge he had picked up while studying the creatures nothing spectacular but he liked it.

He looked back at Cosette and kind of got lost for a moment, she had laughed (Covering her mouth mind you) but Alvis liked how she did so and how her freckles seemed to glow bright. He shuck his head and focused on Alex once more, ''I'm a bitty chilli tell you the truth, although I am stood in a lake! Think I'll come and join you two.'' he wandered out of the water and slumped on the ground near the two eagles and he tried to catch a glimpse of his fellow second years work.

It seems like Cosette wanting to be alone wasn’t going to happen today. Though she wasn’t going to complain. She didn’t complain outloud, just inside her head and hope that no one would notice how she was feeling on the inside would show on the outside. But Alex and Alvis were there and she was just drawing and hoping for some creature to show their face. Two years at Hogwarts and not one creature showed there face. It was kind of sad.

Alvis was talking about some magical fish that he caught, and Cosette didn’t understand about it. But it was just something. “You are…” She was about to say to Alvis but he already knew that he was in the lake. Cosette might have been chilly a little bit. But that was why she went into her bag and took out her scarf that she carried with her. With the weather changing she knew that she had to get better.

“I heard… heard about this squid.” She was trying to make a full sentence but it was harder now since there was two boys that were sitting there listening to her. “it is… huge.” At least that was what she was told, she had not seen it. “Foster… professor type… talked about some creature that lives there… gril… something” She should have paid more attention in class. “Just some thing… things like that.”

At least that was what she was hoping for. But she didn’t know how to draw them, if she has never seen them. So she tried her best.
