Alec Potter

ALEC POTTER

VH39, WC: 314

................

Initially, Alec considered bringing AJ and Amelia to Pet Day. He knew his younger siblings weren’t pets, but he had briefly hoped that maybe with the right disguises they’d be able to tag along to the Gambol Centre with him. He thought his siblings would enjoy visiting with the older kids at the Programme.

But no, instead Alec was attending alone, which would only rub in that he’d received his letter and would be leaving them behind for Hogwarts. Today marked the start of his abandonment of them; soon he’d be gone for most of the year like Sonny and Avery. As much as Alec wanted to go off to school, and to PHP, he’d miss AJ and Amelia. It hurt to think he might be disappointing them by leaving, even if only for the day.

So here he was, empty handed. Alec supposed he could’ve borrowed a family pet, but he didn’t want to. He couldn’t leave his siblings and deprive them of a pet too, and he had no pet of his own yet. Alec didn’t really mind - choosing a pet was like choosing a new family member. If he could bring a pet to Hogwarts, it would be quite possibly the most important choice so far in his young life, and he wanted to make absolutely certain he chose well.

It was only once he noticed that most everyone else had brought pets that Alec regretted his choices. “What, I’m the only one who brought a pet demiguise?” he commented sullenly. Alec shuffled off to the side and busied himself with glancing around at the others and their pets. Petless and friendless, it was clear he didn’t belong here, but maybe by observing he’d be able to make some progress in deciding what kind of pet he wanted to get. At any rate, it beat being bored and doing nothing.

Rielle Brandt

Rielle Brandt

VH 39

Words: 193

Rielle looked around at all of the other children and wondered exactly what was going to happen during this "Bring A Pet" day, or whatever it was called. Were they going to have to actually take their pets out of their cages (in which case she would have to grab her old gloves and put them on because Morgana--her tawny owl--tended to dig into people's skin with her talons), or could they just leave them in their cages? She dearly hoped she didn't have to take Morgana out; her arms were already scabby from where the owl had left her marks.

A sudden shriek from nearby made her jump suddenly. Morgana let out an earsplitting screech and fluttered wildly in her cage.

"Shush! No one's hurting you!" Rielle scolded the owl. "Honestly, for a bird you're jumpier than a dark wizard walking in the middle of the Auror office at the Ministry! Calm down!"

Morgana glared balefully at her owner. Rielle rolled her eyes, grabbed the cage, and made her way over to a group of students who, like her, appeared to be rather confused and wondering what to do next.

----------------------------------

"Da, I don't want to bring her crup! I was hoping that I could borrow your's for the day! Or maybe a model of one of the dragons you used to work with?" Willa wasn't usually so angry about her step-mother attempting to act like a parent, but the very suggestion that Margaret's pets were family pets didn't sit well with Willa. She really had her eyes on the model of the Antipodean Opaleye, a personal favorite of her's and her father's that he would often recount stories of. He had nicknamed this model Dia, short for Diamond and representative of a very angry mother dragon who he would help with when he traveled to New Zealand. She stared defiantly between her father and step-mother until they sighed and retreated to another room to talk it over themselves.

Ultimately, her father gave in on the condition that Dia not leave the small clear collector's box he had enchanted to protect a young Willa. He made the show of adding an extra protection spell to the box in front of Willa, trying to dissuade her from even trying to disobey. Willa pretended to pay attention, but internally she was already reveling in the jealousy of her classmates.

Willa clutched the case proudly as she walked in and did her best to assure her father that the case would not be opened. Once he was safely assured and had left her with her fellow students, she found the nearest open table where she could set Dia down. Laying her head on one of her arms, she watched the model flit around the case, clearly not too happy with the limited flying room because it kept trying to melt it with its very realistic scarlet flame. Willa knew she was supposed to be sharing and explaining all about Dia, but she found the creature itself so entertaining and enchanting that she decided that showing off could wait. She had thought about attempting to open the case, but that would come later. For now, she was content to watch the angry model and ignore the other pets in the room.

This definitely beat bringing a crup.

Verity Doran

VERITY DORAN ː vh39 unsort

  ACTIVITY DAY ONEATTENDANCEWORD COUNT 242

Verity had been absolutely desperate to get her very own owl ever since she’d made her first trip to Diagon Alley.  Unfortunately for her, no amount of begging, pleading, or bathroom-cleaning bargaining had changed Aunt Liv’s mind; there would be no owls.  Not now, not ever.  Birds were, according to her, filthy, disease-ridden creatures that had no concept of house training or appreciation for their owners.  Plus -and this bit Verity added on her own following a trip to the Magical Menagerie -they were bloody expensive.

So Verity showed up to bring your pet day empty handed.  She’d thought about bringing along the little wooden moose her mum had carved for her last birthday, but decided against it in case it wound up getting mistaken for a treat and eaten by somebody else’s animal.  Instead she settled for roaming from table to table, comparing the different breeds of owls scattered throughout the room and trying to decide which type would look coolest perched on her shoulder.

Partway round, she found herself standing next to a girl staring at something fluttering around in a clear display box.  Intrigued, Verity edged closer, trying, and failing, not to look like a total creep.  Her eyes widened when she realized what she was looking at:

“Holy cripes, is that a real dragon!?”  She snagged a free chair and leaned closer to the case, almost knocking heads with @Willa Henry.  Personal space?  What’s that?  “Wicked cool.”

Willa Henry

Extra Post #1

Willa was too distracted to notice that her pseudo pet had attracted more attention than just her own obsessive stare. It wasn't until she felt a face, an unfamiliar face, next to her own that the blonde even registered another human being at her table.

"I wish," Willa turned to look at her new tablemate, "My da used to work with them when I was younger and this is a model he enchanted to look like one he used to care about lots in New Zealand." She hadn't met this girl before, but Willa could appreciate a new friend who shared an interest in dragons. Especially one who would let her keep talking excessively about them, as she was prone to do.

"Her name is Dia though. Da tried to give her all the intelligence of the real one, except he says he dummed her down a bit so she wouldn't escape boxes like this. My name's Willa, by the way!" Grinning briefly at her companion, @Verity Doran, Willa turned her attention back to the dragon and tapped the opposite side of the glass. It caused the model to spin around and shoot its vivid red flame at where her finger had just touched.

Josie Potter

Josie Potter

vh 39 - activity day 1

wc = 170

Technically, Josie did not have a pet, yet.  She and her parents were going to visit Diagon Alley before she headed to Hogwarts to see about getting her an owl or cat (the jury was still out on that) for her to have at school.  Right now, the owl was in the lead with Josie.  Last week, it had been a cat.  Eventually, she'd make a decision

But that left her with no pet to bring to school today -- or so you may think.  Nope, Josie had a 'pet'.  You see, Josie loved llamas.  She just thought they were the cutest things going in spite of the fact they liked to spit and were rumored to listen to Norwegian Death Metal music.  Usually for holidays, her parents had been getting some llama related item and, thankfully, the previous year, they had brought her a stuffed llama.  But not just any stuffed llama.  This llama had a trick it could do.  Yes, folks, meet Hannibal the Twerking Llama!  (Batteries not included)
