4th & 7th Years Lesson One Extra Credit

Professor Pichardo

      seventh years & fourth years

PRACTICAL :: TARGET PRACTICE || LOCATION :: THE LAKE

“Yes, get moving… out of the boats, I said.” Hands waved the fourth years towards what he was sure they believed was certain doom as they awkwardly climbed from the boats and onto the logs.

“The spell you used will help you.  I promise.”

The moment the boats were clear they promptly tipped upside down so that only the rounded bottom was visible above the water.  No one would be able to jump back and hide inside.  The only boat that remained was, of course, the one that Oliver was standing in and if they tried to come to him they would find the repulsion charm bouncing them straight down into the cold lake.

“Use the logs, use the boats, use your legs…” Of course he didn’t say ‘use your wands’ but he didn’t not say it either.

“Seventh years!” He called out.  “YOU MAY BEGIN!”

- - - - - - - - - -

Fourth Years:  Please post as often as you'd like, with a 50 word RP, trying to evade spells that are being aimed at you.  You make use the floating logs or upturned boats to jump on.  You also have your wands.  You are free to claim your own results as to whether you have been hit or if you prefer you may request a dice roll from me using the @ feature.  An even number will result in a successful dodge, an odd number will result in you falling into the water OR being hit with a spell.  Are you feeling lucky?

Seventh Years: Post aiming a paintball hex at a specific fourth year, with a 50 word RP.  If no fourth years have posted yet, your spell will be aimed at the next fourth year to post.

To earn complete EC through this thread you must post at least three times with 50 words in each post and link them in your attendance post.  If you have any questions please PM myself or @ Professor F.

Fiona clearly heard the instruction to begin, but she hesitated with her wand half-raised. At least when she’d been the target, Fiona had some cover, and somewhere to run. The fourth years just looked like sitting ducks out there. She wasn’t sure some of them could balance on the boats without the added difficulty of having paintballs shot at them.

The Hufflepuff made up her mind—aim low, aim for people who weren’t struggling, and conduct a side experiment about whether she could change the color of her paintballs just by visualization.

Oblima pingere! Sorry!

Fiona targets [the next fourth-year to post] with a paintball!

Astrid wished for some trees to hide behind or even just some shrubbery, perhaps she could've curled into a ball behind it without anyone noticing? But no.. those things weren't going to be found and she was out in the open with very little to do about it. She wished she was super graceful and able to jump from place to place because a moving target had to be harder to hit but.. she was barely staying upright as it was.

Which made her think she hadn't been entirely successful when trying to cast the spell the Professor had showed them. "Oof." Of course with her luck she'd been so focused on what to do that she hadn't done anything and found herself splashing into the water. COLD. She was so cold but.. at least they'd said sorry?

Finding a (hopefully) safe spot on a log, Aggie had her wand still in her hand as the professor instructed the seventh years to open fire on the sitting ducks fourth years.  The first thing Aggie did was search both sides for any side of one @Cordelia Waldegrave (even though she was not either a fourth or seventh year).  Aggie remembered the story @Ethan Smith had told her of his experience during his fourth year DADA lesson of this sort.  Fire was not something she wanted to be dealing with.  Paintballs were sufficient.

Speaking of which, she heard an incantation from the shore and quickly jumped from the log she was on to another.

(Paging @Professor Pichardo for a dice roll)

Professor Pichardo

As e expected, the fourth years looked at him as if he were mad.  He wasn't worried though, a little swim never hurt anyone and if they managed to use the spell correctly he was sure they would fine it would help them.  "Oh dear! Shake it off!" He shouted to one girl who had fallen in... "Good work!" to another who successfully dodged away from a spell sent by one of the seventh years.

@Aggie Price you have rolled a 4.  You are safe! :)

Aggie heard a splash of one of her classmates landing in the water as her feet felt the solid form of the next log under them.  She did a bit of fancy footwork.  So far, so good.  But she knew she was not safe until either one of two things happened.

1.  Professor Pichardo said class was ended and uprighted the boats for them to go back to shore

or

2.  Her classmates and her took out the seventh years.  (What?  A girl has to dream big if she's going to dream at all!)

In the meantime, it was spell or be spelled and upon hearing another paintball incantation being shouted from shore, she aimed her wand and yelled "Obsidio!"

@Professor Pichardo for another dice roll

The spell she managed to avoid but the process of avoiding it... well, she could have hoped for better results.  Better luck next time; Oliver flinched as he watched the young ravenclaw make a small splash and then flicked his wand at the log nearest her to halt its motion long enough for her to climb back on.  "We'll all have a round of tea and biscuits in the kitchens after this!" he announced.

@Aggie Price you have rolled a 9.  Sorry if the water is cold.  :(

Fiona’s paintball struck its target, much to her chagrin. Oh Helga, even though that was exactly the object of the lesson, Fiona wanted to crawl under a rock and hide. Hopefully none of the fourth years would take it personally if the Head Girl hit them with a paintball. In fact, this could really come back to haunt her.

Maybe now that she’d hit somebody, Fiona could afford to ‘accidentally’ miss once or twice. Visualizing a new color, Fio spent a little less time aiming and left the second paintball’s accuracy up to fate.

Oblima pingere! Sorry!”

This made her sound a little ridiculous, but she couldn’t not apologize.

Fiona targets [the next fourth year to post] with a paintball!

But she didn't aim very carefully, so if you want to RP it missing that's cool too

Nico took up his position at the edge of the lake, feeling somewhat uneasy about the fact that he had to turn his wand on students who were, in all likelihood, less equipped to defend themselves than he was, even before they had to add in the obstacle of balancing on a log.

Then he saw Drew and felt less bad about targeting his own brother.  Drew would understand, after all.

“Hey Drew!  Oblima pingere!”

Targeting Drew Knight, with permission

Drew Knight

Drew, to his own surprise, had not yet fallen off the log. This was not to say the Ravenclaw was doing particularly well. Even with the agility charm sharpening his reflexes, he was trying to balance on floating a log using nothing but memories from a lumberjack show half his lifetime ago. The principle should be similar to hockey, though—don’t move too fast, don’t over-commit. He had just gotten himself steadied when someone called his name.

Oh of course you would.

Nico’s paintball went high, and Drew only needed to duck a little in order to dodge it. His log tipped precariously, threatening to go out from under him.

NICE TRY BRO!” he taunted, “How’s that dry land working out for you, though?”

Drew dodges Nico’s paintball. Nanner nanner.

((Note: Fiona Weaver is my alter. Her aimed paintball in post #8 is still available.
Nico is targeting Drew so that I don’t have to interact with my own alters. Thank you!))
