Seminar: Self-Defense and Quidditch

"It just means you have to attack them harder," Addison advised. "Amp it up a bit - you don't have to murder them, but... you know, maybe something like a blinding hex, or knee-reversing, or instant scalping. Stuff like that."

She was about to raise her wand to demonstrate one such spell, but Twila changed tack and brought the exercise to a halt, calling everyone to gather around her for discussion. Some people were inclined to obey (Addison beamed at Julian), while others remained hesitant. Addison crossed her arms and gruffly barked out, "OI, YOU LOT BETTER DO AS SHE SAYS AND GET OVER HERE!"

Okay so this was the most violent of all the seminars. Well, there weren’t dragons involved but she still didn’t want to get hit with anything. Delia mounted her broom but today was going to be a long day. This entire year without quidditch had been amazing but what was she going to do with her life now? She’d deal and then also evade more spells.

"Thanks," Twila told Addison, because she could tell that the group that was assembling did not seem overall as eager (or as large) as the group that had gathered at the start of the seminar. Maybe some of them had run off, or maybe some of them had done such a good job hiding that they didn't even realize the coast was clear for the moment.

For the benefit of anyone who hadn't gathered close, Twila made sure to raise her voice a bit as she spoke. "Alright, so you're all doing really great out there! But I think you can do even better. That's why we're taking a break. I want you to reflect on how that just went ... what could you do better? Do you have any questions about what you should do? Does anyone have any ideas? I figure you might learn a bit more from this if we think about what we're doing before we try another go." And also some of them looked like they might appreciate a chance to catch their breaths, but Twila didn't actually say that.

"And yes, I will warn you before we get started again, so you can actually think about what you can do to improve without fearing that another spell is gonna come your way," she added with a grin.

@Kelby Matos Your hide was successful. Twila didn't find you (yet).

@Delia Halliwell-Midnight Your evade was successful!

Intermission discussion time! Feel free to chime in and/or prep for the next round! I'll probably get things rolling again with my next post but how you all react will ultimately determine how the seminar continues. And as always, let me know if you have any questions (or if you want me to fast-post with you to ensure you get your QP!) ❤️

If roleplaying the discussion isn't your thing, that's cool too. You can assume that spells are flying and that your posts happened before/after the quick break if that's more up your alley.

Considering no intermission had been mentioned when the game was explained (or maybe he just didn't remember. Blame the adrenaline), Eli was not about to leave the hiding spot he had just claimed. He was magical mud free, and he dusted the grass off of his knees from a spot underneath the stands. He could listen from here.

At the prompt, Eli did reflect. He had run away exactly as he would in a real attack. Upper tier dueling spells were just as unblockable as the unforgivables. It was a morbid perk of being a first year.

As dangerous as Mummy thought quidditch was, these seminars that were continually hosted were much worse in her opinion. Walking to today’s seminar seeing a mini quidditch pitch, Cordelia was desperately hoping they were playing five-on-five quidditch. Sadly, for her she was about to find out that was not the case.

Realizing she had forgot her wand, Cordelia borrowed a broom while Twila was explaining the rules, to return to the common room to retrieve her wand. It had taken a bit longer than expected as it was buried under a pile of dirty laundry rather than in its normal spot next to a picture of Kimber in her corner.

When she finally arrived back at the makeshift pitch, Cordelia’s jaw nearly dropped to the floor. This was not quidditch. It was MURDER!

Vomer Limcais!!” she shouted at the alumni.

Twila Wilde-Hextor

Nothing Twila did seemed to work out quite the way she wanted. Students hadn't actually been afraid enough to act as they would've in a real crisis which meant the initial situation was limited in its usefulness as training. And then when she'd tried to ask for a discussion, many students still seemed hesitant, like that kid under the stands. Twila waved to him when she noticed him, and then turned her attention back to any discussion that was actually going on.

"Yes, great ideas everyone! Now, I'll give you a few moments to get back to where you were at before we had this little chat and then we'll start back up, yeah? I might throw a few slightly scarier spells this time so make sure you step up your game too like we just talked about!"

But no sooner had Twila started flinging spells again than did one come right back at her. Twila hadn't seen Cordelia coming. Her attention had been on the other students and she didn't understand what was happening until she felt an odd feeling in her stomach and spat out a slug. Of course, this was quickly followed by an incantation to remedy the slugs because there was no way Twila could continue doing what she was doing while puking slugs. "Finite incantatum!"

Since Twila didn't know where the spell had come from, she didn't know who to aim at for retaliation, but she did make an effort to be slightly more vigilant, as well as slightly more aggressive. "Terroris! Perterreo! Petrificus totalis!" she cast at random, though she made sure not to aim the full body bind into the sky - Twila did not want to have to rescue anyone from a fall off a broom because they'd been incapacitated by one of her spells.

@Eli Benoit Your hide was not successful, Twila saw you!

Ongoing Fighting

@Cordelia Waldegrave Your slug hex hit! But Twila reversed it with Finite Incantatum.

It's on again! This time with more intensity ...  Twila will probably pull out a few scarier spells. Coward charms and paranoia charms will be added to the mix along with some Full Body Bind at those who are on foot. You may assume that the effects will be reversed at the end of the seminar (if not sooner) by Twila or some other helpful person.

As always feel free to hit me up with questions or if you want speed posts! ❤️

Delia had evaded! Well then! So far the whole flying thing wasn’t going too bad. She wasn’t about to just go off and do her own thing. This seminar was proving to be the most productive of t hem all. So, she decided to do the next best thing. She was just going to hide. That worked too right?

Crouched down behind the rock, Addy felt safe.  Way safer then trying to duck and bolt across the lawn with all these spells flying across it.  Who in their right mind though this was a good idea.

Then, through the madness, she heard an older voice trying to get her attention.  Telling her he was there to help her and she looked up and nodded slowly.  Putting a hand against the rock she pushed off to stand up and come out of her hiding place just in time to hear the leader of all this chaos declare a ceasefire.

Perfect.  She could run.  "Thank you!" She chirped at the older boys who had made an attempt at being her heroes.  She would be grateful, but for now she was getting out of there.

Post o1 | WC: 114

It was a little surprising to hear that an event had been attacked, especially because Zsu had yet to come across any information regarding it. It was as if Hogwarts had been very, very particular about what it let its students be privy to outside of the usual guts and glory tales. Shaking her head, she once more returned to the seminar, itching to get into the action portion.

When they were finally given the go ahead, she mounted her broom, curious about how often it seemed her peers were actually fighting back. Humming to herself, she evaded an incoming incantation, preferring to try to hone her skills where she knew she needed to.

Ummm... Eli's hiding place wasn't as good as he thought it was, and he waved back to Twila reflexively. Since it appeared the seminar was indeed stopped temporarily for discussion, he emerged and instead sat himself down on the grass in front of that section of the stands, knees tucked up in front of him, wand in hand, and eyes warily on the rest of the seminar.

Wait. Did that actually just work? Did Foster see that? Oh how Cordelia hoped she had, because then her life would be complete. And, Cordy could seriously argue that she deserved a passing OWL grade for fighting off a dark wizard with her beloved slug hex. “Hey! Stop that!” she squawked at Twila’s counter curse, “You can’t do that! RESPONSIBLE ADULT! SHE’S CHEATING!” Sadly for Cordelia there were no responsible adults to be found, so she was left alone to fend for herself, which in this case meant hiding. Lots of hiding was in her future, and if she had to sacrifice a first year to do so, she wasn’t above that.

Twila Wilde-Hextor

Was it just Twila, or did the students keep trying to hide from her? She supposed it was a good plan except for the part where they hadn't been doing such a great job lately. She caught sight of another one and decided to stick with looking threatening and giving the girl an opportunity to try a new tactic rather than casting a spell at her. After all, Twila was casting plenty of spells as it was - no need to go out of her way to target those who were trying to conceal themselves.

"I am a responsible adult!" Twila protested when one of the participants accused her of cheating. Admittedly, many of the students were taller than her and she was only about a decade older than some of them so she probably didn't look as much like an adult as many of the more-adult adults they were used to. "And that's the point! In the real world the bad guys aren't going to follow any rules. You gotta be ready for anything!" she added, only to realize that she hadn't any idea where the girl had gone.

Oh well, back to casting spells it was. Twila fired off another round of spells, with some mud-slinging hexes, some fur jinxes, and a few coward charms mixed in for good measure.

@Zsuzsanna E. Maverick Your evade was successful.

@Cordelia Waldegrave Your hide was successful.

As you have all probably seen, there is now a point claim thread and a QP-eligibility deadline of August 31st at or before 11:59 PM CST. I'll be keeping up with this until then, and don't hesitate to let me know if I can ever be of help with some quick back-and-forth posting to help you finish up your requirements! ❤️

Misty Leaf

Post 1, Word Count 84

After pointlessly wandering Misty came across what could possibly be the most perfect seminar for her to attend. One that would allow her to fly and practice spell-casting. The only problem was the fact that she barely had any time to get on a broom before getting attacked. Other people who came earlier probably had much longer to get ready. So instead of throwing a hex at the alumni hosting the seminar, Misty flew off, hoping to get some time to prepare herself more.
