She felt numb.

The sounds of the chamber weren't really even hitting her ears as she stepped down off the platform and looked towards the chamber door.  Maybe she could somewhat make out @Desmond Potter 's voice calling out her name but she couldn't bring her feet to stop or even slow as she made her way towards the door.

Her teeth were clenched hard, so hard she didn't know if she could swallow and there was a heat slowly creeping up the back of her neck.  Some kind of emotion that she wasn't… no couldn't allow herself to let out here.

People brushed against her, or maybe it was really her against them in her determination to get away from this place and she knew the angry grumbles were directed at her but the blonde didn't care.

Anger seethed through her.  It itched to get out and she didn't want it to escape in a room filled with so many faces and so many people who could find a way to use it against her later.

The fifteen year old could already hear them talking about her.  What a loser she was, how she'd lost again.  She'd never win the tournament because all she could do was lose.  The door arched overhead and she passed through it as a prickling warmth tickled her eyes and she blinked it away.  It was quieter in the dungeon corridor and she could hear her own footsteps hitting forcefully against the stone.

Seeley turned left down the next bend, the long way towards the hufflepuff common room, yes, but there was a quiet alcove that she'd found in her travels and she needed to just be.  Then she recognized the footsteps and the voice that had probably been calling out to her the whole time she'd been trapped in her own head as she walked and she turned to see him.

Her shoulders slumped forward and she couldn't fight the burning sensation that threatened to escape from the corners of her eyes anymore.  She didn't want to cry over this; she wanted to scream and hit things but the only thing standing before her was her boyfriend and decidedly he was not a target for such and instead she looked to him for something else.  She didn't want to cry over this, but never could she remember feeling so defeated.

She couldn't stop it.

Desmond Potter

The moment that her spell backfired, Desmond knew that he had to get up and find her. She left in a hurry and not even letting him catch up to her at all. Which wasn’t something that he liked, he knew that she was going to be upset. That she had just lost her first tournament duel. Desmond knew how much she cared about winning.

She couldn’t help to voice it when she was dueling him before the tournament about how she was not able to beat him anymore. Which might be something he needs to let happen, but that wouldn’t be something that Desmond would tell Seeley at all.

This moment, he was looking for her. Trying to catch up to her. So she would know that someone was there for her.

When he finally caught up to her, it seems like she wanted to take the long way to the common room. Which Desmond wouldn’t mind at all. They had walked this way sometimes before. But he couldn’t let her keep hurting.

For Desmond it might have just been a duel, but for Seeley it was something that she was working towards. But he wanted her to know, that just because she lost, it doesn’t mean that it is just over and done with. She was still a great duelist.

“Seeley!” He called out, as he was behind her, and he grabbed her hand. Not caring if she was to push him out of the way. He grabbed her hand and pulled her closer to him. “Talk to me.”

It seems like that wasn’t something that was possible, so Desmond did the one that that he knew. He kissed her. Maybe that would help with something. Knowing that he wasn't the best at just being able to talk to her, knowing that she doesn't always listen to the words that he is saying, because Desmond wished that she was able to find dueling fun.

But that was not something he wanted to do at this moment, he wanted to be there for his girlfriend.

Familiar fingers latched around hers and offered some kind of comfort, some kind of break through the clouds that were darkening inside and, struggling, she breathed in.

Forced forward by the pull of his hand on her arm she didn’t mean to, but her fist smacked against his chest and she shook her head in response to what he’d asked of her.  She knew what would happen if she tried to speak and she was barely keeping it in as it were but then she looked up.

Tilting her chin and catching his glance, her own hand slid more firmly into his when she realized what he was doing and she looked down again.  If she had won, maybe a congratulations would have been in order but now...?

His lips landed on her forehead and her eyes closed.  The gesture was there, it meant something and she wanted to be more accepting of it but the urge to fight always came more naturally, especially when she felt less then confident in herself.   "When am I going to be good enough?" She finally choked out between weighted breaths and her head slowly shaking from side to side.

Desmond Potter

He didn’t like that she wouldn’t talk to him, he was watching the duel and saw what happened, and knew that she was gone and upset and he had to make sure that he was able to follow her and make sure she didn’t think something dumb. Desmond knew that she was a good duelist, and someone that could win. It was one lost.

Not that he cared if she won or lost, but what he knew is that she cared, and that was something that he couldn’t understand at all. Since he was so into Quidditch, he didn’t upset when his team lost. Because it was something that happened. He would love to win, but winning wasn’t everything for him.

Looking at her, even when her fist touched his chest. He wasn’t going to be upset, but the words that she said. He looked at her, and wished that she would have listen the last time they had dueled one another.

“You think you are not good enough? Seeley, you are amazing, one of the best. You’re wand backfired on you. That happens, but don’t let it get you down. Please.” He said as he moved her closer and moved her into a hug.
