Kacie Weaver

Kacie Weaver

Gryffindor Fourth Year

Post V | 3 words

Kacie made her way over to Professor Qin to retrieve one of the sachets.  She had no qualms about helping the predators feast on their favorite snack.  She tossed the crabs into one of the pools, trying to make sure they were spread out enough so that a feeding frenzy would be less likely.  Then again, she wasn’t sure that ningyos would participate in feeding frenzies… but it was the principle of the thing.

Kacie made her way to a safe spot where she could observe as the musically gifted students helped summon the ningyos.  Kacie did not count herself among those students… she was more musically cursed.  But, lucky for her, it appeared that enough of the other students had her covered on that front.  Her breath caught as the ningyos came into view.  They were absolutely spectacular.  Best field trip EVER.

Nolan Calperin // Prompt Six // Three Words

Nolan was satisfied. Satisfied with that vacation that had transported them away from Hogwarts for a day, complete with plenty of magical creatures of which to be suitably in awe. The lessons melted away while they were gone, unlike the frost and snow of Japan.

Nolan would savor this trip for a very long time, especially with those immortal OWLs looming. The fifth year had staved off his studying for as long as possible. Now he was back, without his beloved pet occamy (now christened Billy in Nolan's mind), with only some eggshells and feathers.

One day he and Billy would be reunited.

But still, he had the memories of the ningyos, pure luminescent creatures they were. The Gryffindor would treasure his time near that lake, although Professor Qin stunned him with her request for a report by next week. Field trips meant no homework, that was the whole point! You got to go and do fun stuff and then go to bed, congratulating yourself for a job well done observing the pretty animals.

Maybe he could get away with the whole writing-really-big-thing and Professor Qin wouldn't notice.

Kacie Weaver

Gryffindor Fourth Year

Post VI | 3 words

Kacie was glad the trip home was easier than the trip out had been.  Then again, port-keys were definitely not her ideal mode of transit.  She idly wondered how many vacations had been ruined by wizard families getting sick because of the horrid devices.

She was definitely glad she’d come on this expedition; it had been tons of fun!  She’d even learned some lessons, and done some reading once she’d come back to learn more about the creatures that she’d seen.  Seriously, any experience that made Kacie read had to have been something special.  She even managed to refrain from sighing when she found out that they’d have to turn in a report about the trip.  Hers began: The ningyo are definitely creatures that must be subjects of conservation and protection efforts.  Between their golden scales and stories that consuming their flesh can lead to immortality*, they are often the victims of poaching and attack…

Fern Blackburn

prompt 4/sneak past occamy   3 words used

Fern was so elated about the precious little baby hoo-hoos that she was just skipping along with the rest, excited that she'd already gotten to see so many magical creatures she hadn't before. She was so lost in her thoughts about the mysterious Ningyo that she didn't even see the massive serpent-like creature lying straight ahead, though it was nearly impossible to overlook something of that size.

Out of all magical creatures, snakes and other cold blooded creatures were among the most intimidating to her. So many of them were associated with negativity, injury, even death (looking at you, basilisks) but on the other hand they were also the symbol of Slytherin and Kieran was proof not all in that house were bad. The fourth year followed Fiona's instructions and raised a shaky hand and aimed at some shells in the distance and whispered "Accio."

Prompt 3 | Hoo-Hoos | three words

Walking with the group, he figured that they ran into something else. He knew what the creature was, as it was something he has read about in the past. But he was just tired and didn’t know if this was his calling today at all. Ethan figured that he would be able to do this but he was wrong.

Sleep was something that he should have been able to do. But it seems like Fiona knew just what she was doing when she was able to tell them everything that they needed to know to be able to save them, but he was told to give the babies some nutrients. Holding one, he stood still, like a stone so it would know that Ethan wasn’t going to harm it at all. He at least hoped.

Once the little chick knew that Ethan was going to hard the chick, he gave it two dropperfulls and hoped that it would alright in the end.

Desmond Potter

Prompt Three || Three Words

“I have not heard of those before.” He was never paying attention in class, so he knew that when he was being told what they were. He was just stood there like a stone. This was not something that Desmond wanted to do at all. He was here because it was to spend more time with Seeley.

He didn’t know if he wanted to hold one at all, he was sure that he would do something just wrong if he was told hold one. "Want to help me @Seeley Pichardo I am sure that this is something I will mess up." And another reason to stand closer to her.

“That is your calling” He told Seeley. Knowing that was something she would have enjoyed to do, but since it seems like they were to young they had to do something else. Desmond was just standing there not doing anything at all.

Answering @Stella Peabody ((I'm so sorry! I lost track of this tag and now I'm coming back to it super late :C ))

- - - - -

Fiona wished she could be a little more reassuring, but the honest answer to Stella’s question was: “I guess we’re about to find out.” Then, fumbling for something more reassuring to offer the younger student, she added, “Professor Qin must think we’re far enough away, though.”

When in doubt, trust Qin. Nobody had been eaten on an expedition yet.

Smiling her thanks to the second-year, Fiona levitated the eggshell Stella had spotted and slid it into the bag.

Fiona Weaver

Responding to Prompt 5 (Inspecting Runes)

Three Words

Fiona shuddered as she passed through the barrier surrounding the lake, but the ice-water sensation was quickly replaced by a wash of relief. It wasn’t until that moment that she felt completely safe from that Sleeping Beauty Occamy back there. Between the occamy and those kappas who had tried to feast on the students earlier, Fiona had had her fill of excitement for one afternoon. She had been so focused on getting everybody here in one piece that she almost forgot the actual goal of their trip.

The lake was beautiful, although Fiona generally admired lakes from afar. Her boggart had once taken the form of a grindylow, just one of a host of predatory water creatures that made their homes in lakes just like this one. It was a relief when Professor Qin mentioned the runic stones surrounding the lake. Fiona eagerly set out to examine those, and carefully copied each of the symbols in her notes. They were too large to take rubbings of. Besides which, touching objects imbued with runic magic could be dangerous, if any of the runes spelled out wards or curses.

Prompt 3 | occamy gently, occamy slowly| three words

He was trying to be quiet, and make it through this expedition, it was just a lot different then the one that they went on last year, he wasn’t expecting them to be the same, that wouldn’t be fun at all. While they were walking he noticed an occamy ahead, and he knew that he was going to have to be quiet, but he wondered if anyone else was going to be quiet at all.

Looking around he was wondering if there would be able to find the eggshells that were out of reach.

Looking around he happened to see many different size ones and wondered if he was going to be able to stay quiet and not say anything or make a sound.

He was also starting to get a little cold. Maybe they should be heading back soon.

Fiona Weaver

Responding to Prompt 6

Three words

Fiona quickly finished copying down the runic symbols and her observations about the stones. The symbols were definitely runes, but they looked more like kanji than like the Elder Futhark. She would have to ask Professor O’Brien about them before their next runes lesson.

Although she finished her task quickly, Fiona was one of the last to arrive at the portkey. She made rounds of the other groups first, making sure nobody had run into any trouble. Some of the students might have been treating this more like a mini-vacation than a serious expedition, and Fiona needed to make sure that everybody was applying themselves.

She needn’t have worried. Stella was taking notes, possibly drawing. Nolan and Seeley were dumping crabs, and so was Kacie. Everything seemed to be going smoothly, which was a relief given how eventful the expedition had been up until now.

At the sound of a splash from the lake, Fiona turned, half-expecting to see a student toppling in. Instead, it was a ningyo completing a graceful leap. Fiona smiled, glad that they’d been able to help with the conservation efforts today. Some people would do really ugly things to innocent creatures just for the hope of immortality.

Vladimir Valentin

V L A D I M I R  V A L E N T I N VII

Prompt VI [ Reflection | 3 Words ]

Vladimir was in complete awe, and his brain worked to immortalize all of the imagery that his eyes observed. This was no vacation, no simple walk through the forest for leisure’s sake; one needed to keep their wits about and keep immaculate attention to detail. And, considering how a single change an ecosystem could drastically change the conservation work of magizoologists, and the survival of creatures, it was an invaluable lesson. The Ravenclaw took down some notes before his attention was drawn back to Professor Qin once more.

Time to leave already? Time certainly went by rather quickly.

After the pulling sensation of the portkey dissipated, Vladimir refocused his attention on the professor before taking note of the assignment. A report on what he had seen would not be much trouble, and the boy was more than ready to get started on it.
