vh37 qin's expedition

TIME - OOC: TAIL END OF WEEK 8 | IC: BEFORE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS
DURATION -  OOC: APPROX 2 WEEKS | IC: OVER THE WEEKEND
ASSISTANT: FIONA WEAVER

HOW THIS WORKS

  • A series of prompts by Qin/Fiona will be given across two weeks. They will constitute tasks that relate to learning more about wild magical creatures. There will be 6 prompts in total.
    • Each prompt also comes with a list of words you are encouraged to use in your RP. Bold and underline them if you use them. If you use at least 10 words, you will be given more HP.
  • No minimum number of words per post.
  • You do, however, need to post at least twice in the two weeks to 'complete' the expedition. This is more relevant for those on internships.
  • Use the @ function if you need to ask questions or require my assistance. You may choose to ask Fiona or me. You are highly encouraged to do this!
  • I might @ you to react to certain incidents/do certain tasks as well, depending on the context. (Unless you don't wish me to! State so in your first post if you rather not be GMed.)

Finally, after much planning and screaming and even more planning, Meryl had finally managed to get everything prepared for the upcoming expedition to a magical forest in Japan. Their primary goal was to assist in the conservation of the Ningyo but given the location, they were bound to meet other creatures on the way.

Of course, she wasn’t about to allow the students to run amuck without a briefing first. Days prior to the expedition, the students were informed to report to the lawn early Saturday morning, where they will be given the full details of what to expect, including frosty weather. Fast forward a couple of days and soon enough, it was time.

“Good morning, one and all. I hope you are awake and alert because considering where we are heading to today, you are not going to want to be careless and lose an arm or a leg due to a moment of inattention.” Surely THAT woke them up?

“Now then, a few pertinent details before we set off. We’ll be travelling to our location via port key.” Here, she made a vague gesture to the bird cage next to her. “And Ms. Fiona Weaver will be my assistant on this expedition so you should listen to her if she tells you to do something." She could trust Fiona to be a tad more wise than her assistant from last year. *cough*Addison*cough*

“As you probably know. Our goal on this trip is to conserve the Ningyo, also known as the Japanese mermaid. Learning how conservation works is critical if you ever want to become a reputable magizoologist. We'll be teleporting a distance away from the lake where the Ningyo resides because due to complicated charms, port keys do not work as well in the area. This is to prevent poaching via apparition and other forms of teleportation magic.”

“Ms. Weaver, would you please take roll call? In the meantime, I will be over here if you lot have any other questions before we set off.”

(Please wait for Fiona to post. Once she does, you can complete the first prompt. The next prompt will be posted 2 days later.)

PROMPT 1 - INTRODUCTION

  •  Required: Complete your roll call - tell me what you have packed for this winter trip (internally, not TO Qin ICly)!
  •  Optional: Use these words in your RP for more HP: Sun, Snow, Eyes
  •  Optional: @ Qin/Fiona a question

PLEASE WAIT FOR FIONA TO POST. The 'two days' will start from her timestamp.

roll call! (IC&OOC)

As Professor Qin spoke, Fiona hugged her clipboard to her chest and studied the expedition group. She also tried not cringe visibly at those students who were dressed impractically for snow and cold. 'Warm clothing you can move in comfortably and sturdy boots.' STURDY boots, she’d said. She’d specifically written the word “sturdy” on the packing list herself. Some of these boots looked way more fashionable than sturdy.

At the sound of her name, Fiona straightened. Professor Qin had just introduced her. The Hufflepuff looked out over the gathered students and gave them a curt nod of greeting, then tempered it with an awkward smile.

Yes ma’am.” Fiona was a morning person, and sounded alert and cheerful as she addressed the group.

Alright everybody. When I call your name, you can gather over there by the portkey.” She held out her clipboard and began reading down the list, starting with the youngest students and working her way to the seventh years.

Nolan Calperin

The sun refracted off the snow on the Hogwarts grounds, refracting sheer white light into Nolan's eyes. Blinking through the light as he woke up, the Gryffindor yawned briefly. Then realized what day it was. He practically cannonballed out of bed, so excited was he at the prospect of that year's Care of Magical Creatures expedition. The fifth year had set an alarm, but for once in his academic career he had woken up early. And what's more it was early by people with normal sleeping schedule's standards.

This was a lucky thing, as Nolan had much excitement about the trip but little in the way of preparation. He scrambled to pack as much as possible, including his winter cloak, many mismatched wool socks, his warmest pants possible, and his Gryffindor hat and scarf, mittens, and a balaclava because he thought it was funny. Nolan noted that he was just in time to make it from the Tower onto the lawn, where they would be meeting before leaving on the trip. He finished getting dressed and made his way out of the Tower.

He lined up with everyone else outside on the lawn, shivering despite the sun and wishing he had put his hat and scarf on instead of in his bag. At least he had remembered proper boots, although he had of course lost the packing list as soon as he had received it. No matter now, as Professor Qin's assistant began reading off names from her clipboard, eventually reaching "Calperin, Nolan." He stumped over to wait by the Portkey with the others.

Stella Peabody

Stella was a bit disappointed when she read the expedition packing list and inferred that the winter climate in Japan wasn't much different from Britain's.  She didn't know very much about Japan, but had been hoping for a bit of sun.  One of the most exciting parts of field trips for the Slytherin was experiencing a totally different biome, partially for the new flora and fauna but also for the chance to savor any weather that wasn't the gloomy fog and snow of England and Scotland.

Aware that her magical abilities didn't grant her the ability to change the weather through wishful thinking and impractical packing, Stella followed the packing instructions to a t.  She wore her sturdiest boots, and packed sensible thick sweaters, warm pants that could be layered, her Slytherin scarf, and a knit cap.  In addition to clothing, the second year brought along an old camera, an antique magnifying glass from Tenterden's library, and three blank journals for notetaking, sketching, and recording her experiences.

Stella's eyes darted rapidly around the group of assembled students when Fiona called her name first during roll call.  She felt self-conscious about being a younger student, and edged closer to @Julian Pritchard after his name was called as well.  At least she wasn't the only second year.

Ethan Smith

He shouldn’t be doing this? Ethan should be getting ready for the next task, but he signed up for it long before he knew he was going to be a champion. It was early in the morning and the sun was barley up and there was snow on the ground. But he was awake and made his way outside to where Professor Qin and her assistant would be waiting for them.

Placing a heating charm on himself, as he stood there waiting to hear his named called. His eyes went to Fiona when it was called, and he walked over towards the portkey and waited until they were ready to leave.

Ethan couldn’t wait to see another creature and learn more about them. But he was so tired, he should have skipped it and stayed in bed, but he was here and there was nothing that would change that.

Looking at @Professor Qin "Are we just going for the day? Or are we going to be staying the whole weekend?" He remember from last time, it was just for the day. But he wondered how it was going to be this time.

Vladimir Valentin

V L A D I M I R  V A L E N T I N VII

Prompt I [ Roll Call | 3 Words ]

Vladimir had never been one to sleep in to begin with, and thus the boy was awake before the sun could even think to peek out above the horizon. He had made sure to pack accordingly for the expedition, curious to see Japan in the season of winter, as well as potentially catch sight of the Ningyo itself. Recalling all too well the expedition last year into the mangroves, Vladimir knew that this one would likely be just as insightful, if not perhaps even more so, now that the boy had more knowledge in the Care of Magical Creatures field.

There was always room to learn and grow after all.

Vladimir took one more cursory glance at his pack. Warm socks, sweaters, trousers, his cloak, gloves... Pads of parchment for taking notes, his textbook. He threw on his wool coat and wore the sturdiest boots he had in his possession before making his way to the grounds.

Outside, the snow glinted in the morning light, as his mismatched eyes glanced over the others that were a part of the expedition. Familiar faces for the most part, some he was less familiar with. His eyes then fell upon Professor Qin and Fiona, the boy patiently waiting until his name was called, answering, "Present."

Kermit Princeley

Kermit Princeley

Prompt One | Role Call | Three Words

He had taken part within Professor Qin’s last expedition. It was this reason he had chosen to complete the next one. He was now in seventh year which meant it would be his last chance to have some fun and to forget about the end the year. Kermit knew that Kat was planning on taking part, so he would also be able to spend time with one of his best friends. As a whole all he saw was a ‘win win’ situation.

He made his way across the snow-covered ground bundled in his favourite coat. After seven years at Hogwarts he was used to the weather of the winter months. He was used to the little sun that came through and the white that lined the ground. It had been an eye opener when he first arrived, having lived in the south of the country, and only seeing poor weather of rain and hale instead.

Kermit knew about conservation. He had learnt about it through his research, and also from his internship over the summer. That did not mean he wouldn’t learn from this trip because he knew that he would. He was certain that it would be more beneficial that any research he could conduct in the library.

KACIE WEAVER
GRYFFINDOR FOURTH YEAR
POST I | 3 WORDS | QUESTION

“Those boots are so cute!”  Kacie whispered to the girl next to her.  Kacie knew that she had to wear her most practical boots… Fio would give her one of those looks if she’d worn anything else in their place.  Plus, it just made sense.  But they were still super cute.

Upon hearing Professor Qin’s voice, Kacie turned her eyes from her schoolmate’s footwear to the instructor and Kacie’s sister who’d be leading this expedition.  She had followed the suggested packing list to the letter – not because she was fastidious by nature, but she wasn’t about to be caught flatfooted on an expedition to learn about magical creatures on their home turf.  She’d considered bringing an extra coat… while Kacie didn’t mind snow, well, it was no great secret that she’d have preferred an expedition to a land of sun, sand, and surf.  All the same, she was excited to go to Japan, even if it had to be in the dead of winter.

When @Fiona Weaver called her name for roll, Kacie only responded with “Did you bring snacks?”

Desmond Potter

His eyes were on @Seeley Pichardo he didn't want to be up early. He could barley see the sun. He wanted to be back in bed and not doing some trip to Japan, but also, it was something that would be help for for the both of them. Being able to go somewhere new together, even if this was not something that he wanted to do. He would do it for Seeley.

Walking in the snow he just wanted to get this over with. Hearing his name, Desmond walked over and went to Seeley, since she was called before Desmond, since her name was PI and he was PO.

Finally they were back together at the portkey waiting for the others to be called and they could be heading to a new place. He just didn't know if he liked the idea of walking to see the creature.

Fletcher Barrow

prompt, role call, 3 words, asked a question

Despite all the travelling his father had taken him on for various potions-related endeavors, Fletcher had never been to Japan. As soon as he’d heard about Professor Qin’s planned expedition the fourth year had signed himself up right away. He was always game for a new experience, whether it ended positively or negatively. His adventures were usually positive, but he was also a bit hopelessly optimistic anyway.

Fletcher made sure to pack all his typical winter gear - scarf, gloves, thick boots and hat. He wasn’t one to plan itineraries, but he knew about survival after having done some winter camping with his father before. One thing he’d learned quickly was that no matter how pretty and mild the snow looked when it was falling down it still got cold when it piled up - or when it was being pelted at you. He didn’t know how much the sun would be shining in Japan, so it didn’t hurt to have extra layers to squeeze into if they happened to venture somewhere cold.

Fletcher kept his eyes on Professor Qin as she gave them the quick run down of what they were doing, and then took his place by the portkey when the Hufflepuff prefect called out his name. There was another thing he had brought along with him in his backpack, though he wasn't sure he'd be able to use it. "Are we allowed to take pictures while we're there?" He asked to @Professor Qin

Fern Blackburn

prompt 1/roll call  3 words used

Last year's expedition had been centered around Selkies, which proved to be difficult to track down, but interesting nonetheless. When Fern learned that this years expedition would be focused on the Ningyo, she knew she just had to go and continue the mermaid theme.

She awoke before her alarm and used the opportunity to check her bag for the hundredth time to make sure she was packed and ready to go- she had a year's experience under her belt now, and wanted to be more prepared than last time. Not only did she have the basics, like a warm cloak, change of clothes and extra socks, an empty canteen to fill with water from her shower charm in case she got thirsty and snacks from her latest care package from her mum, but she also brought some items she'd wished she had with her last year- spellotape, her camera, and everlasting candles. Last but certainly not least, she of course brought her wand.

She gathered around her professor with the other students attending the trip, her eyes scanning over the group, happy to see some familiar faces. The sun was shining, a rarity for a winter day, and the birdcage sat in the snow next to Qin. "Here!" she said cheerily in response to her name being called, and gathered around the portkey.

Seeley Pichardo

Seeley Pichardo

Prompt One | Roll Call | 3 Words

It was very early in the morning and Seeley was actually impressed with how easy it had been to get Des up and moving.  But, there was adventure to be had.  Even if the sun was in her eyes.

Crossing the grounds with the snow crunching under her feet, it didn't take long to reach the spot where everyone was gathering together and the hufflepuff was happy to note that several more of her friends had signed up to come this year.  Fletcher was there, and Fern had come along again this year, though she figured that it would be best to still keep distance between the slytherin and Desmond just to be safe.  They were apparently going to Japan and halfway around the world wasn't the place for fist-fighting shenanigans.

Hearing her name called, Seeley left Desmond's side and hoisted her bag - packed with an extra sweater, a couple of snacks and water, some thick gloves, and her HBI spy belt with all it's trimmings.  Of course the belt she wore under her coat but it was well hidden and would likely be the most valuable thing she had on her in this situation.   Heading towards Fiona, she checked in and then gathered at the portkey with the others.

Addison Toft

Addison Toft

Prompt 1: roll call & 3 words used

There wasn't any point in lying about it: Fiona would definitely make for a better assistant than Addison. The girl oozed responsbility, so it didn't come as any surprise that the Hufflepuff had been picked as Qin's senior assistant - and Addison wasn't put out about it either. Being head girl came with its own set of tasks and expectations, so she was happy to not have to juggle Qin's extra assignments as well.

Stomping through the snow to their designated meeting spot, Addison rolled up next to @Kermit Princeley and shoulder-bumped him, a playful grin and matching glimmer in her eyes. "Adventure time," she whispered, before quieting down as Qin began to speak.

As the wind whistled, Addison fought off a shiver, hugging her bag closer to her chest. While she was wearing her warmest winter clothes, she still thought it best to pack her fireplace-in-a-jar, and was now glad that she did. Along with a set of parchment and her quick quotes quill, the jar was nestled into her bag and radiating a welcome heat that made up for the weak winter sun.

When her name was called, she dutifully stepped forwards and pressed a finger to the bird cage.

@Ethan Smith: "Just for the day. Although if unexpected events occur, I might be able to guarantee that." *shifty*

@Fletcher Barrow: "As long as it doesn't flash or make noise, I don't see why not. You might also want to give your camera an anti-frost charm before we head off."

Professor Qin

(A little bit early but remember you can always back RP!)

Ten minutes into their walk, Meryl suddenly halted in her tracks, startling the students behind her. "Shhhh..." She murmured, eyes trained on a row of bushes in front of her. First, there was nothing. Then, a swarm of Kappas emerged, green, scaly and snarling like the predators they were. A couple were rather big while others were small. But all of them posed a significant threat.

Meryl cursed under her breath. She should have known to watch out for Kappas! Although these creatures have a major weakness, they are not to be underestimated when they are at full strength. It is even worse if they are working in a group.  "Alright. Listen up! There are way too many of them for us to handle one on one. We'll do this slowly but safely. Everyone, gather in a circle. The fourth, fifth years and I will create a shield to surround all of us. Sixth and seventh years who are confident, focus on fighting off the larger ones that can climb over the shield. Try to drain to water from their heads. Second and third years, stay close and watch your seniors' backs. Shout out if you see anything!"

PROMPT 2 - KAPPA (FENDING THEM OFF)

  • Required:
    •  2nd/3rd Years - Watch out for sneaky Kappas! [OPTIONAL>]@ your seniors and give a warning if a Kappa gets too close!
    • 4th/5th Years - Create a shield that prevents the most of the Kappas from attacking the group.
    • 6th/7th Years - Fend off the Kappas by draining the water from their heads.
  • Optional: Use these words in your RP for more HP: Blood, Water, Quack

@Kacie Weaver:  Fiona smiled and gave a fond roll of her eyes as her sister asked about food. “Yes,” she admitted. She’d packed food mostly in case someone got low blood sugar or felt queasy from the portkey, but she had probably overpacked enough to account for Kacie’s peckishness.

KACIE WEAVER
GRYFFINDOR FOURTH YEAR
POST II | 3 WORDS

Kacie grinned at Fio’s response.  She could almost always count on her sister to think ahead and bring food.  She was pretty happily following along when Professor Qin froze.  She was about to ask what was up, when she saw the horde of kappas.  “Well, they look like they’re out for blood.”  She said to no one in particular.  She listened to Professor Qin’s instructions and frowned.  Why couldn’t she try to drain water?  Kacie was not known for being very defense-minded, and would likely be of more use just standing off to the side and quacking than actually trying to erect fortifications.  Hopefully some of the other fourth and fifth years had ideas on that front.  Then, she’d follow their lead and help out as possible.

Kermit Princeley

Kermit Princeley

Post One | Prompt Two

3 words

Kermit smirked as Addison arrived.

“You got that right.” He looked in the direction of Qin and Fiona before speaking to @Addison Toft quietly. “Think we can sneak away and have our own expedition?”

They couldn’t be banned from any future ones as they were both graduating. Which was the scary thought and one that he tried to forget on every occasion his year came up. As they walked he looked around at the environment before Qin stopped them. At her words pang of happiness arose. Kappas? He had interned kappas last year. He had written so much on his project, he had even spent the week at a sanctuary that specialised in them. If he did not know how to do this he was a complete quack of a magizoologist in training.

They lived in water usually. It was where they hide to strangle the unexpected person who entered the shallow waters without knowing they were there. Kermit took a look at @Vladimir Valentin, @Fiona Weaver and @Addison Toft. “Unless one of your has a cucumber in your pack…” don’t ask “…we need to trick it into bowing. The water in it’s head will spill out an weakening it. Otherwise it’s going to be a blood bath here.”

Fletcher Barrow

prompt 2 || 3 words used

Fletcher heeded Professor Qin’s advice and quickly tapped his wand to his magical camera to protect it with an anti-frost charm. He also threw on a silencing spell just to make sure it wouldn’t be noisy when he started snapping pictures. You couldn’t go traveling and not take pictures, after all.

They had barely started their walk before they ran into a group of Kappas. They were ugly things. and Fletch had read that they could be particularly nasty, too. He knew his first priority should have been to follow Professor Qin’s instructions, but the fourth year couldn’t help taking a picture of the swarm first. but first, a selfie!

After he was done with that he decided he’d probably better join in and keep people from shedding any blood. As interesting as that would be, it should probably be avoided. Most people didn’t like Kappas, but the thought crossed Fletcher’s mind that his dad would probably love to examine one, just to note whether or not any of their parts would be useful in making potions. Then again, his father was a bit of a quack.

The Slytherin knew that Kappas were a water-based creature, so hitting them with a shower charm wouldn’t do any good, though he was slightly tempted to chuck some globs of mud at them. Also wouldn’t do any good. He controlled his impulses and instead joined some of the others in creating the defensive shield around their group.

Prompt II [ Fending off Kappas | 3 Words ]

Vladimir's eyes were constantly moving, watching, keeping an eye on their surroundings as he followed along. His eyes would then fall to his fellow companions, from youngest to oldest; constant vigilance was always important, and even though they were with Professor Qin, and Vladimir had faith in the abilities of Fiona and the other Hospital Wing Assistants should any of them get hurt, it was always best to try and prevent injury from occurring to begin with. Ergo, he followed near the back, a rear guard if you will. Perhaps they would be lucky enough not to be targeted by anything stronger than a duck, hear nothing more than a quack.

There would be no blood shed if he could help it.

As such when the Kappas emerged, the water sloshing around in their heads, Vladimir moving to form a circle with the others as his cypress wand was quickly aimed up at the Kappas attempting to climb the shields being formed. Looking at Kermit, Vladimir was not at all familiar with why a cucumber would be necessary, but tricking it into bowing? It would certainly help.

"As you say, Kermit," Vladimir nodded at the boy, his wand rising up to fire a shower of sparks at the Kappas; the Sparkler Spell would at the very least distract them but not harm them.

Addison Toft

 Prompt 2: kappas! & 3 words used

While going on a side adventure with Kermit was tempting, Addison knew Qin would murder them both in their sleep. The woman was no-nonsense from top to bottom, and to have two seventh years (who were expected to be responsible role models for the younger students on board) decide to ditch and do their own thing, would not go well with her. Some might consider her a bit of a quack for her seriousness and her adherence to regulation, but Addison knew that listening to her instructions was for the best.

And right now was a very good point in time to listen to her instructions. A gaggle of kappas emerged, sensing metaphorical blood in the water. Not keen on being a snack for them, Addison positioned defensively with @Vladimir Valentin and @Kermit Princeley. "The drought charm would work too, wouldn't it? Either of you remember the incantation?"

Lacking that, she went with an old tried and true spell. "Flipendo!" Knocking the kappas over would spill the water from the bowls in their heads, which was just as good as draining them.

Fiona Weaver

Responding to Prompt 2

3 words

Fiona noticed the change in Professor Qin almost immediately, although she didn’t know at first what had caused the professor to freeze in her tracks. She had exactly enough time to reflexively draw her beech wand. Then the kappas made their entrance, and Fiona willingly organized herself into the team. @Kermit Princeley definitely knew his kappas—and through a few years in the Hospital Wing together, Fiona had already come to trust his judgment and his instructions. If anybody knew how to overcome these literally bloodthirsty creatures, it was Kit. She followed his lead.

No cucumber,” she told him regretfully, “Would’ve been smart of me to bring some, though. Impedimenta!

She fired the jinx at a nearby kappa, before it could get over the shield and land on Kacie. The thwarted demon gave a strangled quacking sound, then Fiona followed up with a knockback jinx and tipped the slowed kappa over. The water in its head spilled out and Fiona gave a sigh of relief.

Nice shield, @Fletcher Barrow !” she commended, as the younger Slytherin’s spell work helped keep the kappas at bay. “We've almost got them!"

prompt 3
who are you, hoo-hoo? hoo-hoo?

They had overcome the kappas and were back on the move. Fiona was trying to split her time between watching the landscape ahead of them and watching the group, keeping track of everyone.

“Oh! A hoo-hoo nest!” she exclaimed happily, and pointed out a nearby cairn-like pile of stones. “Hoo-hoos are firebirds, sort of a cousin to phoenixes. They build nests in the rocks, then heat the rocks to keep the eggs warm while they go hunting. I wonder where...”

Where was their mother? Frowning in concern, Fiona approached the nest and peeked inside. Four pairs of eyes peered back up at her. Two chicks immediately threw their beaks open and started making a hoarse peeping noise—begging for food. The other two chicks were barely strong enough to lift their heads, and were terrifyingly silent. Dehydrated, possibly starving. Fiona’s stomach lurched. This wasn’t right, hoo-hoos were excellent parents. Where was their mother? She signaled the group closer.

“These two chicks are okay. You guys can distract them, study them, play with them, just don’t pull any feathers. These two chicks need attention.” She tugged a flask and eyedropper from her kit and offered them to @Kacie Weaver. “This nutrient potion will have to do until we can get something for them to eat. Two dropperfulls for each chick ought to do it. Work together.”

Leaving the younger students to the chicks under Professor Qin’s supervision, Fiona turned to her own yearmates, and the seventh years.

“I have a really bad feeling about where the mother is. She’d never leave her chicks to starve like this. Come with me.”

Her suspicion was confirmed just a few hundred feet down the path. An adult hoo-hoo, brilliantly colored, was lying alive but helpless on the ground. Fiona wasn’t prone to displays of anger, but when she spoke now, her voice positively shook with rage.

“Trap ward,” she choked, pointing to a faintly shimmering dome over the fallen hoo-hoo. “Poachers modify a basic containment ward to trap creatures alive. The creature goes in after the bait, then can’t get back out. Hoo-hoos are believed to be good luck, there’s a black market for them as...”

As potions ingredients. As wand cores. As sets of divining bones. Fiona couldn’t finish the sentence. She just made a choked gulping sound and got back on task.

“Luckily, trap wards are very easy for humans to break. Electricity spells—even gentle ones—will short-circuit them. Find the boundaries of the ward and use the shocking hex. Don’t worry about the mother, she won’t hurt you.”

Seeley Pichardo

Seeley Pichardo

Prompt Two | Kappas | 2 words used.

They were under attack!  Something like this was like a moment out of one of Seeley's dreams - yes dreams, not nightmares - and the blonde sprung into action.  Professor Qin didn't even have to really tell the fourth year to go into defensive mode because her first instinct was to do exactly that.   Though it was nice to have the command as a back up as she whipped out her wand and pointed it in the direction of a group of kappas that were creeping up too close for comfort.   She didn't know how to read their demeanor but to her, they looked out for blood.

A splash of water hit her face and a spell that she had learned in defense class popped into Seeley's head.  "Aqua eructo!" She called out, and a massive spout of water began to push back the creatures.

KACIE WEAVER
GRYFFINDOR FOURTH YEAR
POST III | 3 WORDS

Kacie was glad they’d evaded the Kappas, and hoped that they’d be under less… attack… for the rest of the expedition.  When they drew near to the stone nest, Kacie peeked in at the chicks.  “They’re so cute!” she squealed.  With dignity.  But, she felt a growing sense of unease, which was confirmed when Fio indicated something was wrong.

She nodded to her sister and accepted the proffered nutrient solution.  “Okay guys,” Kacie called to the group that was staying with her.  “Uh… Seeley, Fern, Fletcher… can two of you hold one each?  It’ll be easier for us to feed them if they’re not running all over the place.”  She opened the flask and primed the eyedropper so that they could feed the poor little guys.
