A white blank page and a swelling rage

Idina Iordanau

lyrics from White Blank Page by Mumford & Sons

continued from here

It was an odd sight to see a Ravenclaw crying within 20 feet of the library. It was an even odder sight to see a Ravenclaw who had just left the library crying while still within 20 feet of it. Idina was very confused and more than a little bit concerned as she took @Sophia Hunter over to some stairs that didn't shift, or at least she thought they didn't shift. Maybe they were the ones that shifted on Sundays at 2:00 am, though. It was honestly hard to be certain.

"Sophia..." Idina looked her classmate in the eyes, a moment of kindness passing through her own for a change. "What happened?" Was it an argument? A tournament issue with Ethan? Idina was undoubtedly proud of him for being selected as the Hufflepuff champion, as he was a brave and intelligent wizard who had proven himself worthy in many ways over the years. She knew several arguments had occurred as a result of certain people being selected and couldn't help but wonder if that was Sophia's concern.

Sophia Hunter

Sophia wanted to back up and run around the prefect but she could tell that Idina was not going to let hr go without some sort of explanation.  Maybe it was the sound of concern in her classmates voice that let Sophia be led to the stairs and sit there for a moment.  Hearing her name, she looked up and wiped tears with the back of her hand, not that they weren't immediately replaced with new ones.

"Sorry, Idina.  I didn't see you."  *insert sniffling here*

At the question of what happened.  The tears came faster.  "He....  Her....  In there...."  More tears.    More wiping with the back of her hand.

Idina Iordanau

"It's ok, honestly, I wasn't paying attention to where I was going," Idina replied. She'd been focused on getting away from the noisy library as quickly as possible. Everything had felt so much more crowded since she got released from the Hospital Wing a couple days earlier, but maybe that was because the Hospital Wing itself had been relatively quiet and empty in comparison to most places in the castle, even after the foreign delegations had arrived.

"You can take a moment if you need to, you know, to breathe," Idina offered as she dug through her bag. Maybe she had a tissue or something to offer, although she wasn't sure it'd do much good. She found a few cookies leftover from the ones Ethan had made her, although she was getting the sense that this was a sensitive topic. She pulled the bag out and wordlessly offered one to Sophia before taking on for herself. "Can you describe anything about her? Or what she did?"

In there clearly meant the library, so that piece of the puzzle was answered. But if Idina was going to help for once, she'd need to get at least a vague description.

Sophia Hunter

Sophia managed a hiccup and a cough and decided that perhaps Idina's suggestion to take a moment to breathe was a really good one.  No wonder the girl was made a prefect.  She thought about things like that.  At the sight of the cookies being offered, Sophia nodded and took one managing to mumble a 'thank you' out without bursting into tears.  It was probably a good thing that Idina did not explain where the cookies came from.

"She... He... Ethan.... They walked to the restricted section.  They," *more sniffling* "were sitting close and... And... some sort of party. . . "  Yep, you guessed it, more sniffling amid the crunch of cookie and tears welling up.   "He.... Kissed.... Herrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"   Commence crying.

Idina approved of anybody who would eat a cookie, if she was being quite honest. Even if the maker of said cookies seemed to be a breaker of hearts, which is what Sophia's choked out explanation seemed to be indicating. The Slytherin had known very well that Sophia and Ethan were a going thing and had been for over a year, but she couldn't imagine her Hufflepuff friend doing anything to betray the girl. While she didn't know Sophia particularly well just yet, Idina had no reason not to like the Ravenclaw and it actually hurt a bit to see her crying. Which was, admittedly, weird. Apparently Idina did have a soul. It was just buried very, very deep inside.

Idina reached out and pulled Sophia in, hugging her warmly. "We'll get to the bottom of this, I promise," Idina stated rather calmly, her voice not taking on its usual flat and dangerous tone. There was but one question left to be answered. "Can you describe who he kissed? What color hair, maybe? I bet it was awful and that she was nowhere near as pretty as you."

Sophia Hunter

Sophia did not fight Idina's hug and just cried more.  "It.... Was.... *insert sob* Obvious....."  *continue crying here*.  Sophia choked out through the tears.

At Idina's question, Sophia's mind flared to life with the very recent memory of what she saw?  Could she describe the girl that Ethan was kissing?  How could she forget what the girl looked like.   Long blonde hair.  Really, really pretty with a classic kind of beauty.  Everything Sophia was not.  Could she describe the girl?  Oh yes.

But as fate would have it, Sophia did not have to.  Pulling back from Idina's hug, she raised her arm and pointed at a figure coming from the library.  "Her!  I have to go!  Sorry!" and with that, Sophia ran up the stairs towards the safety of the Ravenclaw tower and her room.

Maelys St. Claire

Maelys was practically shaking as she exited the library. She was completely mortified. She didn't know he had a girlfriend, and Ethan played her. She didn't even want anything outside of a kiss, at least she didn't think so, but he had a girlfriend, then he had the audacity to try and kiss her again!

Maelys may like kissing, but she was not that type of girl. Mumbling to herself in French, she wiped a tear from her cheek. She was not going to cry. She knew better than that.

Stopping to collect herself, she heard a noise. Looking up, she spotted Idina, and a girl who quickly ran away. Maelys froze, noticing the look in her eyes. "What are you looking at?" She didn't mean to sounds so Mean, nor did she mean to speak in French, but the look on the other girls face was unlike anything she has seen before.

"Sorry." She mumbled, brushing her hair back. "Zat was rude. I.." She stopped glancing down at her feet trying to stop herself from crying.

Idina Iordanau

Just as Idina was starting to think she'd be getting some vague expression choked out between sobs, the entire story changed as Sophia pointed toward a very familiar face, declaring the incoming girl to be the person in question before bolting from the scene at top speed. Idina glared hard at Mae as she walked toward where she sat on the steps, so suddenly abandoned.

"What did you DO?!" Idina snapped, not even really noticing she had responded in French. She didn't really advertise that she spoke languages other than English around Hogwarts, so it was probably surprising in general that this could even happen. Unfortunately, Idina didn't notice Mae was crying, either, at least initially.

"Wait..." Idina switched back to English as she calmed down slightly at the sight of tears running down her sort-of-friend's cheek. "Mae... what... are you okay?" Why was everybody Idina encountered crying?

Maelys St. Claire

Maelys didn't like what just happened. She was so angry, she couldn't help it, she was so hurt, so upset. She just didn't get why he thought it was okay to lie to her. Were the nice guys not really nice? Was it something lost in translation? Bugger. She didn't even like him like that. In a way this whole thing was just to have fun. She liked having fun, but this. This was not fun at all.

She took a step back when Idina spoke to her in French. She didn't realize the girl spoke her mother tongue, and really took her by surprise. "I did nothing." She said back to the girl, her tone flat at this point.

Idina's question made her cry again. She just couldn't help it. When people saw you were upset they should NOT ask if you were okay, because clearly you weren't. "No." She said finally crying harder. "I.. eet... 'e..." She sniffled. "Ezan Smit ees a liar." She said finally. "'e made me a zheat." She was not a cheater, She didn't do that. "I didn't know." And she began crying even harder.

Idina Iordanau

Idina just ignored the tone in Mae's voice, because connections were slowly being made. While Idina's initial thought to be mad at Mae was still there, she held her breath, as her dad had tried to teach her about fifty times, and let Mae talk, first. Her accent was very heavy and Idina wondered if it might be better to switch back to French. Her grasp of the language wasn't perfect, but it might help Mae explain what, exactly, had happened.

"Mae, please sit down," Idina requested, switching back to French for Mae's sake, surprisingly gently. Crying people were not her specialty on the best of days when her patience was fully intact, but she wasn't feeling herself, having so recently been battling a double dose of actual poison. Clearly this was the consequence she was meant to pay. "Take a few deep breaths, use my sleeve if you need to wipe your face clean." It didn't matter at this point. Sophia had already soaked through her shoulder. "When you're ready, I want to hear your side of this, although I think I'm starting to get it."

Maelys St. Claire

Maelys didn't understand why she was so upset, other than the fact, well she was led on. That was the selfish part of her, that realized she was lead on, but she also cheated.. She may not know who the girl was, but she assumed it was the girl running upstairs upset, and that hurt. It hurt a lot. Brushing her hair out of her face, Maelys rambled on, not sure if she was making sense, but did that matter?

Idina switching to French strangely calmed her down. While her English was good, but clearly accented, it was easier. Shaking her head when she offered her, her sleeve, Maelys wiped her eyes, and took a few deep breaths. "Ethan and I have become.. friends? No. I think he just saw me as a pretty thing. Most boys do." Her eyes rolled at that thought. While she liked playing up to it, she was more than a pretty thing, Not even he realized that. "We were at the party, he was flirting with me, and we went to the Restricted Section. Why else would he take me there?" She was talking rapidly, but it was more clear. "I kissed him, he told me he had a girlfriend, I freaked out... he kissed me again, and I left."

Idina Iordanau

And to think, Idina had only just let Ethan into her bubble oh-so-recently. She had decided to trust him enough to actually befriend him, yet here he was, newly-minted Hufflepuff Champion and he was already breaking not one but TWO hearts in the course of a single evening? Idina swore rather colorfully under her breath as Mae explained everything the Slytherin needed to know in order to act. How she would act, she didn't yet know, but there would be punishment for @Ethan Smith and Idina relished the idea of it.

"Well, he's just going to have to atone for his sins, now isn't he?" Evil had slipped into Idina's voice as she said it. "What we need now is a plan." Something to embarrass him in front of everybody once the rumors had spread far and wide. Something that wouldn't physically harm him, but would put him in an awkward and very obvious spotlight for a while. Something brilliant.

Maelys St. Claire

Maelys couldn't believe this happened. She was mortified, she really was she couldn't believe she let some seemingly nice boy hurt her feelings, and it sucked. Maelys listened to Idina as she spoke, sniffling a few times as she tried to calm herself down. Why was she crying over a boy? She was stronger than that. It dawned on her it wasn't the boy. It was the situation. She was not crying over him.

"I zink 'e does. 'e never told me 'e 'ad a girlfriend. Eef 'e did we would not be in zis situation." Maelys decided. When she mentioned a plan, Maelys sort of giggled. "'e 'as to compete. We could make 'im pink." She suggested ,even though she was kidding. "Zat ees foolish. We could make 'im... embarrassed?"
