Pure water is the worlds first and foremost medicine.

Jacky had come down to the lake to get away from everything. He hadn’t wanted to come back to school after the easter holidays. Now all he could do was look forward to the Summer. It was May and they still seemed so far away. Too far away.

Things were getting worse here. He hated being here now. He hated his classes. He was struggling and didn’t know what he was doing at all. Nobody seemed to care. He just lied to his Mumma and told her he was doing great. She’d find out when his report came. Unfortunately. Unless he could lie his way out of that. Though he hated lying to his Mumma. It make him feel really bad. He didn’t like it.

He hated his year. Well mostly. There was one or two people that were nice to him. But that was all. It wasn’t enough. His Mumma said he must have lots of friends. That’s why he never has time to write home, because they keep him so busy. Honestly Jacky just didn’t know what to write anymore. He hated not being able to tell her everything. All he wanted was to come home and never have to come back to this stinky old castle.

Now he sat down by the Lakefront, picking pieces of grass out of the ground. He couldn’t help but scowl. He should probably be doing some homework, but he was annoyed at life.

He had been holding on to so many pent up emotions recently. As he plucked out the blades of grass, anger seethed through him. Everything had been so much recently. So hard to deal with. Everything here was so frustrating. He couldn't do right by anyone at this school. Next to nobody actually liked him. Some people went as far as to bully him.

And then his emotions left him. He began to cry. Hot angry tears poured down his face as he furiously rubbed his grubby little paws on his face. Why did he have to be so stupid. Like a stupid little baby. That's what they'd say if they saw him now. They'd point and laugh and throw diapers at him like the ones someone had gone as far to owl him for Christmas.

Wishing things could be different he pulled his knees into his chest, dipping his head to bore his sockets into his knees, as if trying to force the tears in. But it was inevitable, if just made wet patches on his knees that he wouldn't be able to explain away. Jacky was just glad his dumb mop had gotten so long that it sort of shielded him from anyone out about the grounds at the minute as it fell down around his red hot cheeks.

Time had passed. Jack had wept all he could. Though his cheeks still red with anger, now they were less so.

As he lifted his head they lightened to a shade of pink. Now he felt shame. All sorts of embarrassment. If he wasn't such a baby he wouldn't have sat here crying for the last hour. But he was a baby. Everyone told him so. He gave a furious swipe to his eyes wiping away the salty remains of his tears. If only he could be a man. A manly man. Like the other guys in his year tried to be all the time.

If he was like that nobody would laugh at him.

Everyone would want to be his friend.

Maybe.

He eventually lifted his head to look around, hoping nobody was around to see him. He wiped his eyes again, more tenderly this time. He patted his fingers on his cheeks, now his tears had dried in his skin felt all funny. He pouted, rubbing now to try get rid of the residue. But it wasn't working. HE glanced around the lawns again, making sure he was alone. After a second he pushed himself up and scurried down to the lake side.

There he shimmied down onto the Jetty, being careful not to fall in. Knowing his luck he would. Or else at the very least he'd get splashes on his pants and everybody would make fun of him for peeing his pants. Again. That was something he didn't need. Leaning forward he continued being careful. He cupped his hands together and lifted the water to his face, trying to make it feel normal again.

Except he went a little crazy. Now the flop of hair directly around his face was wet, automatically making his hair tighten into corkscrew curls. Ugh. Not the look he was going for. It made him look even dumber. He tried not to think about it and instead continued scrubbing at his face. That was until he got water in his eyes. That was unpleasant. It shouldn't sting. Jacky stupidly rubbed at his eyes. Making it worse. Clever boy.

He sat back, waiting for the sensation to pass. Feeling the idiot he usual did. Eventually his vision returned. He pouted, he couldn't feel any stupider and he was sick of it. He tucked his knees back into his chest in a way of self defence, and looked along the surface of the water. And that was when he spotted them.

A little group of animals not that far away from him playing around in the water.

That grabbed his interest. He sat up straight, training his attention on them now. They looked so happy. Pure unadulterated joy as per say. The floated around in the water, playing with each other. They were like Puppies but in the water. He didn't know what they were. Maybe some sort of magical little creatures he'd learn about net year in Care of Magical Creatures.

He didn't even know what they were. But he sat there for what seemed like forever watching them. And they helped him forget the world. Just what he needed.

fin.
