MINI-FIREWORKS ROUND TWO WITH TITANIA + SILAS

Fireworks™️ had worked out their kinks since the previous year: this time around, Titania was able to acquire several boxes of them through a proper catalog, rather than having them mysteriously and inexplicably delivered to the Caslte, seemingly on their own volition, as though the Firewinks™️ company were keen to appropriate free experimentation from their target audience: reckless adolescents with pent-up energy.

Regardless of shadiness, Titania was keen to place a new order for a more advanced kit of the tiny fireworks, with the intention of inviting students to the Lake the first weekend of term to let off some steam (or smoke, or sparks, water, mud, glitter...you never really could tell with a Firewink™️). As she had last year, she recruited @Silas Harding-Clarke's help in (somewhat) organizing the gathering and (mostly) lugging crates to the lawn.

They opened the boxes with their wands, and waited for the students to flock...

Titania and Silas have stocked up on of innumerable Firewinks: miniature, palmable fireworks that spark and light up in brilliant displays just like the Muggle version, but can also have wild magical effects on their beholders. They're marble-sized, fickle, silly, and possible rather dangerous, but you're wizards, for the sake of Merlin: you're basically invincible! (There are dragonhide gloves available for sissies and people who really want to keep all ten of their fingers.)

FirewinksTM have improved greatly since last year (they used to be DEATHLY DANGEROUS but are now only moderately likely to kill you) and they come in 12 different colors. Each has a different effect upon ignition (which can be achieved with any kind of fire spell, but might also be set off by light, hand heat, or heavy breathing). It's veeery dark outside, so you won't be able to tell what color yours is when you pick it up. Below is a list of effects.

FIREWINKS: A COLOR GUIDE
 ••
SCARLET FirewinksTM  burst and pop like overripe cherries. You'll be covered in sweet red juice (DISCLAIMER: IT LOOKS LIKE BLOOD BUT IT IS NOT BLOOD) if you choose this color.

TANGERINE FirewinksTM  leave a very fresh citrus scent behind, because when they explode, they turn their holder squeaky clean. A great alternative to a shower, because the ingredients in them were first used in shampoo and grout cleaner.

BUTTERCUP FirewinksTM  turn your ears into petite little yellow flowers, awww. What's not so cute: you won't be able to hear, and not just because you were standing too close to a firework, you ninny.

AQUAMARINE FirewinksTM  look like the bright reflections crystals make on walls. They also give you gills. Good thing you're near a lake! (You ARE near a lake, aren't you??)

CORNFLOWER FirewinksTM  send off a huuuuge puff of blue powder when they explode. It itches, bad. Sorry. We're working on it.

VIOLET FirewinksTM  smell lovely as they explode, and also gently rain down purple flower petals. Lovely for weddings.

PEARLY FirewinksTM  burn an angelic white and send an explosion of feathers out when activated. Think of being walloped in the face with a pillow.

FLINT FirewinksTM  burn the hottest of all, unleashing semi-literal lava, which coats skin and clothing, dries, and cracks like lava. It's hot, sure, but maybe it's also kind of therapeutic? (It is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED AND/OR TOTALLY NECESSARY to have a Mediwitch or Wizard on hand when handling Obsidian FirewinksTM.)

IRON FirewinksTM  stick to your skin, supercold, the same way your tongue would to a frozen pole in winter. They will keep sparking even as they adhere. It is wise to have warm water nearby with these FirewinksTM.

CROWN FirewinksTM  are similar to Christmas crackers: as they pop, they toss out treats, usually cheap paper crowns (a little singed) but sometimes good stuff. Occasionally something odd (like a sock or a page torn from an old diary or a huge wad of chewed gum) will come out instead. We blame the interns. (Please send resumes to: Norbert Geddes-Polke, Wem, Shrewsbury. PLEASE.)

CRYSTAL FirewinksTM  burn supercold as they go off, so there is danger of frostbite if you're not wary. They look like crystal chandeliers, though, so that's nice.

MUDDY FirewinksTM  do precisely what their name implies: as they detonate, they fling giant globs of mud in all directions (best keep your mouth closed).

Make a post (one-liners and short RPs encouraged, but not mandatory!) selecting a FirewinkTM and fiddling around with it, inspecting it, throwing it, WHATEVER. Titania or Silas will reply with what color you got, and then you can proceed to react to whatever weirdness went on when it exploded. REMEMBER: IT IS DARK, SO YOU WILL NOT KNOW WHAT COLOR YOU CHOSE UNTIL IT GOES OFF.

Have fun, everybody, and feel free to IM or PM Silas or myself with any questions/suggestions/concerns <3 This thread is OPEN.

Ollie Celeste

Only moderately likely to kill? Huh. Ollie wasn't bothered then.

"Hi Titania, Silas," Ollie smiled, "Are these those little firework things? Row told me about these last year. Have you got any coral coloured ones? I've been obsessed with coral recently. Both the colour and the actual thing. Did you know there's three types of reefs? Barrier, fringing, and atolls?"

"Anyway if you haven't got a coral one, I'll take the most dangerous."

Dane Golden-Keisi

Dane appeared for the Firewink show and stood around before realizing he was supposed to select one. He hurried over to the boxes and grabbed one at random. He inspected it (but didn't let his face get too close, just in case) and then threw it into the air, waving his wand at it so that it would go off. Hopefully it didn't kill him or anyone in the vicinity.

Abi Slater

Abi was wearing her darkest clothing.  Super stealth. Secret agent. Mission impossible. Though really, she didn't own a lot of dark clothing because it made her pale skin look too pale by contrast, so she was wearing Sabine's darkest clothing. Which was fitting, because it was time to claim vengeance on her butt of a brother.

"IT'S TIME FOR VENGEANCE! THIS ONE'S FROM SABINE AND ABI, WITH LOVE. BUT NOT REALLY LOVE," she cackled, picking up a firewink and hurling it at Silas.

Seeley Pichardo

Yessssssss.

Hearing Ollie mention something about danger probably should have been a warning, but honestly by now, Seeley knew anything involving Ollie was bound to be dangerous.

"I'll take one..." Did it matter what color?  Of course purple would be preferred but, it was really hard to see.  Taking the small ball she was handed, the hufflepuff gave it a squeeze and then tossed it into the air.

Margaret Schoenberger

Margaret loved Firewinks! They were so much fun last year that Margaret trekked outside to pick out another one (or two or three), even though she was pretty certain last years' Firewinks were quite dangerous...

She rummaged through the box even though she could hardly see anything - maybe she could feel for a good one, like the Firewink that gave her flowers for ears last year.

"Thanks for these um, these... things!" Margaret smiled at Titania and Silas (at least she thought it was them? They were just two blobs in the darkness).

Schuyler Clement

Sky wasn't really into dangerous things, but it sounded like fun to see Fireworks explode in the sky. He was one of the wimps who has on gloves. He happened to like his hands, thank you very much.

"Hi," he greeted Silas and Titania with a grin as he reached into the box grabbing whatever was on top. "Thanks!"

He retreated what he felt could be a safe distance from who was around him. He'd never done anything with Firewinks before so he hoped it was far enough 0__0

Columbia Newton

Columbia had heard that there were some fireworks or something going on down by the lake. She was curious, and besides, firewinks implied there would be bright colors and Col thought that bright colors were so pretty.

"Hi, Titania. Hi, Silas," she smiled at the two prefects in charge, "May I have one? How do I, uh, set it off?" She was just an ickle, with barely any magic in her arsenal. ;-;

Silas Harding-Clarke

Silas already knew this was probably a terrible idea, as anything involving Titania usually was, but he'd embarked on a lot of terrible idea encounters with Titania in the previous year so what was one more? He sighed through his nose and carried the box physically because he was very afraid of casting any sort of magic on the already volatile compounds within. Titania bravely opened her box with a spell, Silas wrenched his apart with bare hands.

"Hey," Silas responded to a familiar voice in the darkness, casting a quick Lumos so he could see if anyone was going to toss a cherry bomb into the box. He should probably set up some sort of shield just in case..

He looked up in confusion as Ollie gave him a lecture on the many variants of red. He wondered if she was wearing anything specific that might be causing this obsession. "Well, it's hard to see what's what, but give this one a shot."

@Ollie Celeste received a FLINT FirewinkTM -- wow, I think you actually did get the most dangerous one >___>

"Hey!" Silas shouted at Dane. "Don't cast spells at them!"

@Dane Golden-Keisi has chosen a CRYSTAL FirewinkTM

"IT'S TIME FOR VENGEANCE! THIS ONE'S FROM SABINE AND ABI, WITH LOVE. BUT NOT REALLY LOVE."

"Oh no you don't," Silas whipped his wand vaguely in the direction of the voice. "Repello!" Hadn't he just told someone else not to use magic on the Firewinks? Oops.

@Abi Slater receives return fire of one of the MUDDY FirewinksTM

Silas wouldn't have recognized Seeley in the dark by voice alone, but if he had he might have given her an apologetic smile for their last meeting in the Tournament the previous year. As it was, he just folded his arms and stood sentinel over the box in case that little hellion Slater came back.

@Seeley Pichardo receives one of the CROWN FirewinksTM

"Hi Margie," Silas said affectionately, recognizing her higher voice. "How was your summer?"

@Margaret Schoenberger takes one of the VIOLET FirewinksTM  which I swear was not on purpose!

"No problem, be careful," Silas responded.

@Schuyler Clement has chosen a TANGERINE FirewinkTM

"Hey," Silas said warmly to the newest of the little Ravenclaws. "You can set one off with a small fire spell--Incendio--but they also tend to go off from.. well, any other source of heat. Including the warmth of your hands." He handed her a pair of dragonhide gloves. "You're young so you probably still like your fingers. Wear these."

@Columbia Newton has chosen a PEARLY FirewinkTM

Ollie Celeste

“Thanks mate,” she took the firewink from Silas and tried squinting through the dark to read the description. When she couldn’t figure out what colour the firewink was (presumably not coral, though she had her coral coloured pajamas on so she was still hashtag representing her new favourite colour/ecosystem) Ollie decided to just set it alight.

“Incendio!” Having not been present for the previous firewinks show, she hadn’t grasped how truly unpredictable they were. Before the flame even made contact, a wave of heat washed over her as the firewink exploded in a somehow more brilliant black than the sky it was projected against. At first she assumed the heat was from the firewink, but a continuous burning seared her arms and Ollie looked to discover a think, amber substance trickling down her arms. “Oh, cool,” was her instinctive reaction.

Her second reflex was to poke the lava, but as she moved to prod it, the entire coating seemingly dried over her arms, neck, and pyjamas. “Huh, Silas man, is it supposed to do this?” And then the layer cracked, sending a new wave of lava searing over her. “Oooft! OOooo! Hot!” Ollie began to wave her arms to soothe the heat, but if anything she made it worse.

In the end, she ended up diving into the lake.

“Ah, that’s better. You got another one of those?”

Ollie was covered in lava.

Fe wanted to be covered in lava! D:

The Gryffindor remembered Firewinks from last year and, scurried by Ollie's manic and amazing result, stuffed her hands inside the crates without asking first and pulled one out, shouting "MINE!"

Molly Stone

Darkness gleaned in the sky, broken only by the bright flash of wand light. Molly's gaze raked across the scope of the Hogwarts grounds. It seemed since she'd gotten to Hogwarts she'd been running from one exciting activity to the next, but the Gryffindor didn't want to miss out on anything. And so at the sight of the sparks of colors, she dashed over to the crowd. She'd seen fireworks before, but not firewinks.

Plus, Ollie AND Fe (preemptively) were covered in lava? Molly ALSO wanted to be covered in lava. Molly was no stranger to floating in the midst of danger.

"Ollie, you'll probably get a thousand more scars from that!" Molly sounded amazed and thrilled. She and @Ollie Celeste were in the midst of Scar Wars, however, so she couldn't fall behind. "I want one!" she gasped, dipping her hand into the crate and fiddling with it until it went off.

Fern Blackburn

Fern was pretty bummed that she had to wait until next term to take both Herbology AND Care of Magical Creatures, so she decided a stroll on the grounds and maybe to the greenhouses and forest was in order. She'd gone camping and spent plenty of time outdoors during her summer break, but nothing compared to the glory of the beauty surrounding the castle. There were even fireworks in the sky to celebrate!

Wait, hang on. Those weren't.. she squinted and saw Titania in the group of people and it dawned on her. Firewinks! Last year she got the red one over and over, but this year she wanted to try her luck again.

"Ooh, can I have one?" the third year asked as she squeezed through the crowd. "I would love on those purple ones.." she said, staring Titania and Silas in their eyes. "Purple is definitely the most calming color, also doesn't that one have flowers? I love flowers.. and plants.. and lavender! Ooh, does it smell like lavender?" she tilted her head curiously.

Silas Harding-Clarke

"Oh my God," Silas said with no small trace of alarm as Ollie's firewink erupted into thick ropes of darkness from which gleamed orange cracks which soon burst, releasing waves of actual lava.

"What the hell is in these?!" he shouted, and while Ollie went to dump herself into the lake, Silas held his lit wand over the box and tried to fish out all of the ones that looked like they might also cover innocent children in molten rock Jesus Christ. It couldn't have been as bad as it looked, though, because she came back. "Sure," he said, squinting in the dark. This one looked less like the lava firewink. "Try this."

He shook a finger at Titania after sending the younger Ravenclaw away. "Next year we have to make them sign waivers."

@Ollie Celeste was given one of the IRON FirewinksTM

"MINE"

"Wait!"

@Felicia Fletwock has chosen one of the PEARLY FirewinksTM

"Oh my G--" Silas whirled around as yet another small Gryffindor (to the surprise of no one) ambitiously plunged both hands into her likely doom.

@Molly Stone has chosen a SCARLET FirewinkTM  (and exploded it all over the crate and the other Firewinks)

"Ugh," Silas groaned, giving a flick of his left hand, which had been within firing range of the cherry-red firewink. Liquid dripped from his fingers. He flung off the excess and then wiped his hands on his jeans. In the very dim light, Fern's beseeching gaze looked more murderous than hopeful, and he hurriedly stuffed a sticky firewink into her hand, the labels now entirely obscured by cherry goop. "Sure, here."

Fern Blackburn

"Oh.. thanks." Fern said in a disappointed voice as she took the Firewink from Silas. Wasn't this the one that Ollie just had that made her jump into the lake as she walked up? Fern wanted literally nothing to do with lava, even if she was adept with the Shower Charm. No thanks. Flowers please.

"Here, @Ollie Celeste, you can have mine." Fern offered. If she didn't already know about the lava she may have been curious to try it herself, but she'd give it another go. "I want to try to get the purple one anyways.. can I have another, you guys?" She had her brand new camera in her bag, one that she'd saved up for all summer with her babysitting money, and if she got the purple one with the flower petals it would make the prettiest magical moving photograph. Quality enough to frame up for her muggle mum even, though she really just wanted an excuse to take a photo of literally anything (except lava, duh)

Eloise Beauchamp

Eloise was still wearing her obnoxiously bright kerchief tucked into her bun as she went down to the lakefront for Silas and Titania's firewinks activity. She hoped she got a firewink with a calming effect that was less headache-inducing than her kerchief. And definitely not a lava one, please Merlin, no. Her face adopted an expression of horror at the effect Ollie was under, but she trusted the girl to handle herself. "Silas, give me a cool one. It's the least you could do for the kerchief you gave me earlier," Eloise bossed her fellow prefect, reaching out her hand expectantly.

"How can you tell?" Silas asked in amazement, picking up another firewink and scrutinizing it with narrowed eyes, but it was no use. The sticky cherry glop from Molly's firewink had covered the entire top layer of firewinks in the box, plus they were so tiny to begin with.

"Um, this one might be purple?" he offered it to @Fern Blackburn -- however, it was actually a SCARLET FirewinkTM

Eloise appeared like a vision from the mist. If it was even possible, Silas thought she'd been walking even straighter and haughtier than normal after receiving her prefect  badge. He normally tried to give her a wide berth, remaining in allegiance with Tobias, but sometimes he felt like Eloise walked extra close to him on purpose, and he really hoped they didn't end up on any patrols together this year.

"Here, this one looks cool," he said, polishing the Firewink a bit with his thumb first to get the cherry jam-stuff off of it.

:|

Did Silas really think he had won the war? Please. Abi had been engaged in various forms of combat and warfare against her twin siblings since the moment they were jettisoned into this world, and she wasn't going to let some stuck up Ravenclaw beat her now. She wiped the mud out of her eyes, and picked up a handful of objects. Some of them were pebbles, but maybe there was a firewink in there somewhere?

Commence the attack on Silas!

Flowers! Flowers everywhere! So romantic! Of course Silas would hand her a purple Firewink! Margaret sighed and smiled into the dark sky. Life was wonderful.

She turned around when she heard a mysterious splash - Ollie must've decided to take a bath, though had she received a Tangerine Firewink, she could've saved herself from the horrible feeling of her toes squishing in her shoes.

Deciding to be adventurous, Margaret asked, "Can I take another one?"

"Thanks!" Fern said cheerfully as she took it from Silas. The Firewink went off and suddenly there was a familiar red liquid all over the front of her robes, on her shoes and all over her hands. A fleeting moment of panic washed over her before she realized it had just exploded like an overripe berry, and she'd seen this before. U g h. "Aww, I always get this color." she muttered, wiping her hands on her robes before pulling out her wand and aiming downward. "At least it smells good, though. Scourgify!"

"Can I take another?" she asked, peering into the box and grabbing one for herself. Maybe she'd have better luck this way.

Silas wasn't paying attention so when @Abi Slater peppered him with rocks like a damn menace, they all spattered against his ribcage and his side, including a VIOLET FirewinkTM that burst against his sternum and sprayed him with lilac petals. Silas coughed as the strongly-scented blooms rained down around him, sticking in his hair.

"Go ahead, but be careful," Silas said to Margie, busy waving the heavily perfumed air and petals away from his face with not much success.

Fern grumped at her own firewink, although she was pretty good at cleaning up after it. He looked over at Margie as there was a -pop- and she was treated to a cherry juice shower, too. "You can take whatever you want as long as you help Margie with that scouring charm," Silas told her.

Iseult Downes

Iseult just wanted something pretty and Scarlet O'Hara like, because she totally read that book over the summer and therefore she knew what she was all about in life. She smiled at her roomie and approached her happily. "Can I have one?! Or two?!" She wasn't afraid of something like this and if it made her more like Scarlet O'Hara, the better. Oh wait, wasn't she a muggle?

Juniper stared up at the light show for all of a second before deciding that she wanted in on this. Now this was why she couldn't wait to leave Hogsmeade. Her aunt would never have let her play with fireworks, especially not FirewinksTM. She eagerly bounded up to the prefects and held out a hand. "I want one too! What's the spell?" She yanked her wand out of her pocket, all ready to set off an explosion and see what happened.

Harper Lin-Williams

It was late and dark, but Harper went down to the lake anyway, not wanting to miss anything. The water was very pretty in the night, and the camaraderie was kind of nice—being around some people from her house without really having to talk to them. She liked that. Being completely alone in this strange new place was too much, too solitary, even for her.

Harper wandered up to the box of fireworks and was just about to pick one up when she thought she saw something unusual. It was so dark she could barely tell, but in the flash of a firework, she caught sight of a BRIGHT streak of coral, not just a flag, but like, full-on...pajamas? She frowned—first of all, wasn’t she supposed to look for a flag? Maybe that Ravenclaw just really liked coral? But the color was the exact same as her kerchief, which she quickly yanked out of her pocket to confirm, looking from it to the coral pajama-d girl.

Yeah. It was very hard to tell in the night, but Harper was getting pretty confident that both her flag and those pajamas were definitely the same shade of grey-black in the dark and coral in the brief firework light. Was her partner Olive around? She would have to get stalking investigating. She covertly put the kerchief back in her pocket and grabbed a firework. “Can I have some gloves?” she asked a prefect. “Please?” she added. She wasn’t about to get her hand blown off so early in the year.
