Cause I don't know how to make a feeling stop

Desmond Potter

Summer was already over, Desmond didn’t understand how three months went by so fast. He wasn’t happy that he had to pack his bags and get ready to go to the train station. While he was ready to see his friends again, his mind wondered to one person. After the summer he had, he thought he would hear something more but nothing, after everything that happened. Nothing. He heard nothing at all. He wasn’t upset, but he was confused.

Waking up early, his mum and dad with his siblings made their way to Kings Crossing.

Third year, who in their right mind allowed Desmond to get this far. He wasn’t doing well in his classes at all, he felt like he failed like 90% of them. Herbology was the worst, he was for sure he was going to have to repeat second year Herbology. Which he didn’t want to do at all.

Hugging his mum and dad and siblings. It was time to make his way to the train. Promising them that he would write when he got there, they always wanted to make sure that he got there safe. Right now, though, Desmond wanted to find a compartment. Alone, and sleep. Knowing that he would be able to find Milo, or Wyatt, or Ollie. They would all be here, but there was one person he didn’t know how he was going to face her.

Walking around, in the middle of the train with his bag that help nothing in it really, just some snacks he was looking around for a compartment to sit in. It seems most were taken with first years or older students. There had to be an empty one somewhere.

Finally.

The summer was over and all Seeley could think, was finally.   It had been so long - well at least since the incident and she had practically been counting down the days until she would officially come out of house arrest.  Though technically, her father had claimed she had to stop calling it house arrest because she spent far too much time out on the ocean.  But, sun bleached hair and tanned skin couldn't make up for the fact that he'd isolated her from mostly all her friends and especially one in particular.

The new third year hugged her goodbyes quickly and followed along with Talus towards the train, all the while scoping out any sign of the dark haired boy who'd kissed her on the dock and then promptly been blacklisted from her life.  Boarding, she smiled to her brother as he turned and went on his own way and she set off on her own mission - one he was well aware of.

As far as the blonde was concerned, she and Des Potter had some unfinished business.  He was here somewhere, she just knew it and her heart thumped harder in her chest at the very notion.  Edging by a group of older students and twisting around to squeeze between a gaggle of what had to be new and certainly confused first years she thought she caught a glimpse of him and stopped moving.

Squinting, she confirmed and then, completely discarding her luggage for the moment she quickened her steps, bumping into one of her classmates as she held up a hand and smiled to catch his attention.  "Desmond!" she called out, grinning even brighter as he turned to look at her.  With just a couple more steps she was in front of him, reaching up to hug him and fully intent on finishing what he'd started, on the dock at her house.

She glanced at his mouth as her eyes closed and leaned forward.

This year, was going to be good.

Standing there looking for a place to sit, he wanted to be alone but it seems like that wasn’t going to happen at all. All summer he was waiting for letters and they never came. This summer started out to be the best, he went and hung out with his best friend and even kissed the girl he has had feelings for year. But now that they were back, he didn’t know what to think. He was hoping for a letter or something to explain what happen and where they were. But he got nothing.

Finally, he had found somewhere to sit. Before he was able to even open the door, he heard his name. He knew that voice and he shouldn’t have turned around. Not knowing if he wanted to face her or not, still he turned around it was the natural thing to do and then before he knew it she was hugging him and leaned in.

Being thirteen he did what all thirteen years old did and leaned in and kissed her back. But then something clicked in his brain and he released the kiss and back up. “What was that for Seeley?” He asked her, he didn’t understand why after the whole summer, the first thing that she wanted to do was kiss him. They had not talked all summer.

In Desmond mind, she didn’t want to kiss him that day they were out by the bay and that is why he went into the bay. Not because her father caught them. But because she didn’t want to kiss him. But now she was the one that kissed him, his mind was racing and he didn’t know what to think at this moment in time.

He looked at Seeley, and waited to know what in the world was going on.

Or, maybe not.

For just about as long as it took for her to actually almost believe the thought and let it settle, the next thing the small blonde knew, Desmond (who seemed about 2 inches taller then the last time she'd seen him, had she shrunk?) was backing up and pulling her arms away from him and she felt a horrible rushing sound pulse between her ears.   Heat crept along the back of her neck and when she actually registered that he'd asked her a question, at first the words wouldn't come out.

"I just... I thought that..." She stuttered out, embarrassed.  Had she done it wrong?  How many ways, exactly, were there to mash your lips up against another persons?  Of course she had limited experience and she assumed that he had even less, but maybe, over the course of the last several weeks, something had changed?

Immediately, panic (or something an awful lot like it) took a strangle hold on the hufflepuff's heart, or brain; it was hard to tell which and she had to do something.  Last year had been one fraught with ups and downs and she didn't want that again, but it seemed that old habits die hard.  Fight, she wouldn't do, but flight was still an option.

"I... I'm sorry!" She spit out her cheeks flushed, and then she spun around, blonde hair whipping around like a funnel cloud to follow as she took off, squeezing between the thickening crowd in the train corridor.  Grasping the handle on her luggage again, she willed herself not to let the rejection sting so badly, as she ducked into the first compartment she could find.

Desmond looked at Seeley and was waiting to hear something, he didn’t know what was happening at this moment. The kiss was nice, just like the one at the bay, but why did she kiss him. They had not talked all summer and the first time he saw her, she kissed him. Was that how things worked? He had to find his cousin or someone to talk to about this. He just didn’t know what was happening. His brain was a mess.

“Thought what? You have not talked to me all summer.” How were they something, he was hoping he would have gotten more answers over the summer. That they would have letters back and forth again. Desmond didn’t think that he was the one that should have wrote the first letter.

Was being shoved into a bay the truth. The one that he thought all summer, that she didn’t want him to kiss him.

Why is it that each time their lips touched someone was pushing someone, this time Desmond. But she said sorry and then was gone. Not answering anything that he needed answers to. Nope, this wasn’t going to be like last year. They had to fix this, because he wasn’t going to go all year wondering and hoping something.

Following her to a compartment. The first one that she walked into. Not knowing that there was people there. People that they knew. Desmond just opened his mouth. “Seeley, you have to tell me why you just kissed me.”

Alayna Weasley

Mister Louis Weasley was a fool. For much of the summer it’d felt as if he were unaware that his eldest daughter was set to turn fifteen in just a few months; thus freezing him in a never-ending state of fail. Sending a simple, innocent letter to a friend should’ve hardly been the sort of thing to unleash the lecture she’d been handed, after all, but did that matter? Not to her father. Even her explanation that the note had a heart on it because she was wishing him well hadn’t been enough to placate him, sending the redhead into a fit of hysterics because she was plenty old enough to send whatever she wanted to whoever she wanted, please and thank you, and that didn’t mean it meant anything… more!

He never once listened to her though, so Alayna was more than thankful when the school year started up again and she was set loose into a world where she wouldn’t have a skeptical eye watching over her every five seconds. “Bye bye!” she chimed as she bounced onto the train. “I’ll send you a letter… next week. Promise.” Then after one last wave toward her family she was on her way, prancing down the train corridor like a bird that’d just been freed from its cage.

She slowed after a moment though, for the familiar sound of Desmond Potter’s confusion met her ears and there was no way she could pass this by. Facing her cousin’s back, Alayna stealthily crept up behind him and then proclaimed “Because she likes you, you dummy. Why else would she kiss you? Hi Seeley!”

Fletcher Barrow

Fletcher was getting bored cooped up in the compartment, so having some invaders was a welcome surprise. He was used to seeing Desmond and Seeley by now; those two were always doing something together, or specifically not doing something together. Fletch couldn’t really keep up with them.

Apparently today they were doing something together, and that thing was kissing, or so Des mentioned. The Slytherin couldn’t help making a comment. After all, it was them who had walked into where he was sitting. “Seeley kissed you? I wouldn’t complain, mate. She dated me and we didn’t snog even once.”

This was not happening.

THIS  was not happening.    She hadn't managed to keep that whole non-relationship relationship with Fletcher a secret from Desmond for months and months, only for him to find out now, immediately after she had made a fool of herself by kissing him.   Why couldn't he have just accepted the kiss and they could have held hands and found a compartment and caught up about their summers and maybe kissed some more and life would have just been...

But no, of course not, drama seemed to follow Seeley like it was attached to her as a tail and with Alayna shouting out her her very obvious feelings into the world to make them clear to the boy who apparently couldn't read simple body language, and Fletcher pouring out the most obnoxiously embarrassing secret she had , Seeley was most certainly caught in a swirly spiral of mortification.

Why had she stumbled into this compartment?  She wanted to wave back and offer a greeting to Alayna; she wanted to smile at Fletcher and hide behind him to get away from Desmond's question or pretend he hadn't asked it but it hung there and Fletcher responded with just about the worst comment that she'd ever heard uttered and she was frozen.

She glanced from Fletcher to Desmond, back to Fletcher and back to Desmond again, trying to read Desmond's expression.  Maybe he hadn't heard, maybe, he wouldn't care.

Maybe.

Seeley and Fletcher dated? Alayna yelled out that it was because she liked him. This wasn’t how he wanted the year to start. Not at all, but for some reason or another it seems like this is how things always happen.

Was it that hard to understand why she kissed him, not that Desmond didn’t mind, he did kiss her back after all. It was just they went months without talking and the first this she thought to do was give him a kiss.

His cousin blurting out because she liked him, but did she? Looking at his cousin and almost wanting to say something about getting shoved in a bay over the summer. He didn’t, not yet. He would find Alayna after sorting and talk to her then. He didn’t want to bring it all up right now.

Then he looked at Fletcher, finding out that Seeley and Fletcher dated. It hurt his heart more then he wanted it to hurt. Was it before Seeley told him he liked her, or was it after. He looked for a place to sit and just sat down, he didn’t know what he was supposed to say, or do at that matter.

The girl he still liked kissed him and he questioned it, because for once his brain worked. He just wished he understood why it decided to work now, and not at other times when it should work.

Glancing up at Seeley, licking his lips, he looked back down towards the floor and then over at Fletcher. “You dated her? When?” In such a soft tone, you could tell in his voice that he was hurt.

Ollie Celeste

Summer had eventually dwindled into the ambers of autumn and with every change in the natural hue, Ollie’s return to Hogwarts drew closer. Excitement didn’t begin to cover how she felt. Between her Hogsmeade privileges and the new, incredibly interesting lessons she could take (of which she had opted to study all of them, because she was way too confident in her abilities) – third year was one full of promise.

Add the promise of drama into the mix and the year was already off to a notable start.

“Kissing?” Ollie had kissed a couple of people, but having feelings was a different matter entirely. Had she liked the people she had kissed? Had she been experimenting? She didn’t know – it was all rather confusing. Hormone addled and curious, the young girl had flung herself into the awkwardly interconnecting web of summer love and had come out with the discovery she was great at snogging but not so great at actually processing feelings. Be it her own or those possessed by others.

Hence her bluntness when it came to the rediscovery Seeley liked Desmond.

Desmond?

She could do so much better.

“So are you, like, dating now or what?” Ollie asked, making herself known just as Fletcher decided to reveal he had been a conquest of the surprisingly popular Hufflepuff’s. “Bloody hell Seeley, this is why your dad locked you up all summer.”

Seeley Pichardo

There were too many people on this train.

Seeley found herself slowly becoming less and less in control of the urge to whip out her wand and zap the entire room with a shocking hex just as a fallback escape plan so she didn't have to answer the questions she was being bombarded with.  Well, To be fair, Desmond was actually asking Fletcher questions now, but Seeley wasn't about to let him answer them.  In fact, she slipped herself straight in between the line of vision Desmond had so he couldn't prod the slytherin any further, just as Ollie pipped up and added even more to Seeley's overflowing plate of embarrassment.

"I... what.. no... I'm not dating anyone." Technically... and very unfortunately, because if this day, and quite frankly if the last twently minutes even had gone the way she'd intended them to go she'd have had a very different answer to that question.  As for Ollie's other remark, the blonde simply turned a couple shades more pink in the cheeks and stuttered on with her interjections to whatever Fletcher might try to answer to Desmond rather then comment anything on what Oliver Pichardo had spent the summer cooking up.

"Des... it was, it was like for two days and it was really nothing." She said, her eyes looking up trying to catch his, with much difficulty, and hoping he would understand.  "It was... almost like a joke really, from like our team?"  She smiled one of most awkwardly forced grins she'd ever turned and hoped for the best.

Sitting there Desmond was waiting to hear something from Fletcher, but before anyone was able to say anything he heard the soft voice of Seeley again. It still made his heart jump, but still he just found out that she dated Fletcher but didn’t say anything at all to Desmond about it. Thinking back to the moment they shared at the bay, before he was shoved into the bay, he thought that Seeley told him everything. That just didn’t turn out to be the truth.

Then Ollie was there, asking if they were dating. “No.” Was all Desmond said, but Seeley said that she was not dating anyone. But Ollie said something that made Desmond eyes wide. She was locked up over the summer? If that was true, why didn’t she just tell him that when he asked why she kissed him, Desmond didn’t know what was happening at this moment.

A joke? Only for two day?

“Dating people is a joke to you?” It was so soft he didn’t know if anyone was going to hear him, was dating someone a joke. Does that mean that mean kissing Desmond was a joke? What was going on in Seeley mind, not that he would want to listen in, he knew what happened their first year.

Desmond wanted to get up and leave, but there was to many people in the compartment now. He was just going to sit there and wait till they got to Hogwarts.

Juan Garcia

Juan was just walking by. And he heard something stupid come from Desmond's mouth.

"Well if she's dating you, then she IS dating a joke, dumbass," he said, shoving Desmond to the side before offering Seeley a look that asked her if she was okay. Or going to be okay at least. "You alright Seels?"

No... no, no, no, no.

Her head shook almost violently from side to side, but no words would come out.

Instead, Juan chose that exact moment to pop his head in and only make things worse.   Or... better?  Well, not better in the fact that he had called the idea of her dating Desmond a joke because it most certainly wouldn't have been.  She had thought of little else over the rest of the summer besides kissing him again and even though he'd broken in short and totally and completely obliterated the moment by questioning her intentions, it had still been a pretty good second kiss.

Not that she had much to compare it to.

"No." She finally forced out, succeeding in answering both Desmond's question and Juan's.   She looked at Desmond, creases etched deep in her forehead.

"No... it's not... No, I'm not." She looked to Juan, because she wasn't fine.   She couldn't breathe, the air in the compartment felt thick and heavy and she wanted out.

Ignoring the other people in the compartment, Juan made his way in and steadied Seeley. He didn’t know what he’d walked into, not really, but he knew what it was like to feel cornered and unsure of what to do next. And Seeley looked genuinely mortified. Judging by the group around them, he could get a tiny hold of the situation, and if Seeley was being ganged up on, it would be hard to formulate her thoughts. Or even breathe.

She wasn’t fine. That was all Juan needed. His arm still holding her up, he quickly did his best to usher her out of the compartment, all the while speaking in her ear, “You’re okay. Take a deep breath. You just need air. You’ll be okay. They aren’t gonna follow. You’ll be fine. Deep breath. In. Out.”

Was he even doing this right?

See? This is exactly why Fletcher couldn’t keep up with these Hufflepuffs. Weren’t they supposed to be the house that was free of drama? ”Honestly, it wasn’t that big of a deal, mate.” Fletcher assured Desmond with a shrug. “She’s all yours.”

He couldn’t help snickering a bit at Ollie’s comment, though he stopped when he saw Seeley’s face. She looked uncomfortable, Des looked uncomfortable, and it was all starting to make Fletch feel uncomfortable too. He was getting out of this before things got any more awkward.

“Well, let me know when the wedding is, yeah?” He shot at the complicated Hufflepuffs and left the compartment to find Dax.

He couldn’t look at her, if only she would answer one question. That was all he needed the answer to, it was simple. Why. Was it that hard to answer one question. I seems like everyone else was giving him the answer he needed. But the one person he wanted an answer from.

Desmond didn’t want to be there anymore, he didn’t want to be sitting in the compartment. Knowing that he wasn’t able to move. Juan just had to show up, didn’t he? Why couldn’t he be off snogging some girl that he liked, Margie or Sera, whoever it was this day. Why in the world was he touching Seeley.

Before he was able to say anything, Fletcher said something that made him question him. Wedding, “you mean theirs? Whatever.” He said pointing at Seeley and Juan.

Doesn’t Seeley know how much Desmond couldn’t stand Juan. Knowing one thing, if she left at that moment with Juan, he was done, finished, and would work on getting over her in a heartbeat. How? He wouldn’t know, Seeley has been the only girl he has ever liked.

Damien Belizaire

~your friendly neighborhood drama queen is here to save desmond's day \o/

Damien was a lot of things and a gossip was one of them. It wasn't his intention to overhear the conversation the younger students held in the compartment but he couldn't pass a good show and this, my friends, was hell of a good show. Still, it was obvious that his quidditch teammate was dying in there and it would be wrong to not save him.

"DEEEESPOOOOOOT!!! EMERGENCY PRE-SEASON QUIDDITCH TEAM MEETING RIGHT NOW!" Damien barged into the compartment and pulled the third year out of the chaos, ignoring the fact that there were others there with him He could thank him for this later.

If anyone was going to rescue her, Juan was probably the last person she would have expected.  Desmond, of course would have been the one her mind automatically tried to slot into that hero spot.  But, he was failing her, so much so.

For the rescue though, Seeley was grateful as, gently the slytherin spoke to her, and slip an arm around her to nudge her towards the compartment door.  It wasn't as if anyone was being exceptionally evil, or even really attacking her to be fair, even if that was what it seemed like to Juan.  The hufflepuff had found herself to be exceptionally bad at dealing with her own emotions.   Claustrophobic seemed to be the best sort of word to describe was she was feeling and she cringed as her leg brushed against Desmond's knee when she stepped passed him.

She knew how he felt about Juan, but she needed out.  He always wanted to talk, that just wasn't working for her and clearly actions didn't get the point across to him.

The glance she caught in his eye though, said a lot.

This year was not going to be as good as she hoped it would.
