Spring Fling: Flowergram Pick-Ups

vh35 flowergram pick-ups

Lining the right end of the Great Hall are about a dozen tables, all adorned with multi-color petals. Some are charmed to hover above the tables and some are resting atop them. The beautifully wrapped packages are arranged alphabetically with the telegram note corresponding to each person who received a flowergram.

The gray petals have wilted even more and are radiating a faint musk odor, while the other petals smell like freshly-picked flowers. If someone tries to get away with a taking a flower than isn't theirs, it'll immediately wilt and sprout thorns (until the right person picks it up). Your intended flower will glow.

Although there is a charm stopping you from taking anyone else's flower, you are able to read the message upon passing flowergrams (even if they aren't yours) until they are retrieved.

On the far wall, there is a flashing telegram reminding everyone what each color symbolizes, for those who didn't read the pamphlet. It explains the flower colors and meanings.

Once you've picked up your flowers, remember to head over to the dance.

Red petals symbolize the powerful emotion of passion. They're also at times associated with danger.

Orange petals symbolize brightness and warmth.

Yellow petals symbolize youth, fun, happiness, sunshine and other light, playful feelings.

Green petals symbolize nature, growth, harmony, freshness, and fertility.

Blue petals symbolize calmness, creativity, and intelligence.

Purple petals symbolize royalty, nobility, and prestige.

Gray (wilted) petals symbolize coolness or neutrality -  associated with "emotionless, moody, dull" feelings.

---------------------

This is an OPEN THREAD. Roleplay reactions and make as many posts as you'd like. Remember, this is taking place at the dance!

Also, only the letter (graphic) itself is IC. Just to make it easier, I tagged with people's actual VH names even if they weren't used on the address <3

Please send me a PM if I missed anyone or linked incorrectly/typo'd drastically in a note <3 I promise you I'll fix it ASAP!

Karen Davies

It was with an idly curiosity, not with any expectation, that Karen approached the flower table. After all, it wouldn't do well for her to have received one and to not pick it up. Seeing her name in the stack, she fingered out the stem, and pulled it from the mass, reading the tag on it. From... @Axel Blackwood? Blue? It was one of her favorite colors, and a prominent color of their house. But what did it mean?

Not wanting to linger too long at the table, she quickly stepped away letting an eager younger student get at it. She glanced up briefly around the room, but didn't see the red mop of hair. Probably for the better. She wasn't sure she particularly wanted to run into him at that moment.

Molly Stone

Molly wasn't into the girly flower crap, but she'd come to the dance because she'd never miss out on a big magical event. Scanning the floral telegrams, she quickly sought out hers.

She smiled her best smile at the one from Jack out of guilt, a bit embarrassed that he'd send her anything and worried anyone saw it considering he'd wet himself in front of the whole school. She sheepishly stuffed it away, opening the next.

Phillip thanked her for all the jewels? She paused, frowning. Did he mean jewels? She shook her head, but a small smile dusted her lips at the thought of him. The smile burgeoned brighter at the next flower from Brigs.

"Hah," Molly scowled at the gray flowers from @Damaris Denton. "Not on fire. Nice try. Thanks for being so courteous and thinking to send me flowers, though." The next wilting flowers were anonymous, and Molly shrugged, then set off to find Brigs.

"Brigit!" she grinned at @Brigit Raske. "You come in with Kaleb?" It was the perfect time to make her 'ship with @Kaleb Kennedy public.

Desmond Potter

This year was a hurrican for Desmond, so much ups and downs. With the year coming to an end and him and @Seeley Pichardo finally patched up things. It was time for the spring fling. He was dressed in the nicest clothes that he could find. Making his was there, he stopped and saw that he had some flowers. First one was from @Milo Shin his best friend was something else. Than he saw one from @Anderson Potter not knowing how he was the best big cousin, he would do better next year. At least he hoped that he would, and take his little cousin under his wing. Than he saw one from @Fern Blackburn and just laughed, herbology was the worst and he wished he could just drop it. But he took the flower. The last one was from Seeley, his smiled grew wide. This year was just crazy for them, but they seemed to be doing better. Even if he didn't want to study, he was glad this year was almost over and he was able to head home and just enjoy the summer with his family.

He knew that he had to find Seeley, and get at least one dance in.

Puck Whitaker

Puck's eyes narrowed suspiciously the moment she entered the great hall. She had only wanted honey, always seeming to be running short of the stuff, and kicked herself for not trying to charm bees into making her an endless supply. The ravenclaw scowled miserably as she was belatedly reminded that it was the spring fling. A dance. A social event. A place she really very much did not want to be.

And the honey would be harder to find.

The seventh year glared angrily at a student who tried to approach her in a pleasant fashion, sending the kid swerving towards the food as if she had never been the goal. She just wanted honey. It was one of the few things she that could lure her out of the seclusion of her tent, she barely even attended lessons anymore. Who needed people when you had art, plants, books and potions? Not her. Nope. People were all pain and no gain. Hard pass.

Her wand slid from her sleeve pocket with a quiet sigh of wood against fabric, the motion smooth as an exhale. She was about to attempt a simple accio and then rage quit the whole mission if it didn't work, but she caught the glow of a single red flower among many. It was small and isolated, but she flicked her wand to send the bloom flying across the room towards her. She glanced at the note in her palm and her composure began crumbling at an alarming rate.

Dear Puck, I'm sorry. Love, K<3

Five words, an initial, and the unforgivable curse of emotions that she had so carefully shut down and put away in tidy boxes. The handwriting couldn't belong to anyone but @Kelly Ashcroft, Puck had stared at essays and notes for hours written by the headgirl during their numerous study sessions. Had reveled in the passed notes in class and cute post it messages around the tent. The Ravenclaw's composure was beginning to crumble.
Flack the honey, she needed to leave.
Now.
Before someone saw her crying and decided she need to be touched or some other horrific notion.

Without stowing her wand or glancing up from the tiny red flower in her hand, Puck spun on her heel and fled the hall.

If anyone tried to touch her on the way back to her tent she would curse them until they had to pull Aura out of retirement to fix the beastly target.

Casper Abernathy

It was with slight apprehension that Casper walked toward the flowergram pick-up. Eyes completely glossed over the wilted flowers he had sent to all his haters (ay B)); he simply wasn't concerned.

He was more worried about the flowergrams he would get. Don't get me wrong, he expected none. But, ever since Kennedy had revealed Raske had a crush on him, he had an inkling of a doubt.

However, his worrying was for naught. He breathed a sigh of relief. All he got was a bloody waste of a gift from @Kaleb Kennedy. He crumpled up the wilted flower and the note and tossed it in the bin. He should have sent Kennedy a wilted flower as well, he thought with a shake of his head. However, a dead flower was better than any colorful one from Brigit.

Once he finally moved away from the flowergram wall, he saw @Brigit Raske and @Molly Stone. He quickly turned the other way, although not nearly as fast as that curly-haired seventh year [Puck].

Kelly Ashcroft

In an alarming turn of events, Kelly was hovering off to the side of the hall rather than the middle of the dance floor. She leaned against a wall as an occasional flower petal gently drifted down and dusted the surface of her brunette waves. She couldn't believe what she'd managed to pull off in such a short time. There was a bucolic, peaceful vibe to the atmosphere that made her feel a warm light. She collected her flowergrams, sending a wink Casper's way and waving her wand to turn the wilted gray flower from Kaleb into a gorgeous bouquet, which she placed at the edge of a table. She watched as people came and went, watched dancing and chatter, everything morphing into a quiet hum.

If she weren't so busy observing her surroundings, she may have not noticed the Ravenclaw who came in. But she was, and she did. Her focus zoomed in, honed like a camera. Kelly swallowed, a lump forming in her throat once she was certain it wasn't a mirage. Puck hated parties, dances - only ever went when Kelly dragged her - and she'd sent the rose hardly thinking its recipient would show up for retrieval.

"Puck," Kelly murmured from a distance, gaze searching as a pleading look sparked in her eyes. They hadn't spoken in months, and she felt a pang in her chest as she thought about it. Although it was not constantly at the forefront of her mind since she threw herself into other activities such as this dance, she felt the loss like a weight, thick and heavy in her coiling gut. She'd avoided meeting her gaze in classes, but Kelly was done running away - she was tired, exhausted, really, of everything. The crowd became blurry white noise. She shut her eyes for a moment then opened them, vision met by speckles of fairy lights and a resolve.

Puck was turning around.

Kelly exhaled. "Flack it."

With one last sweeping look at the festivities - a final assurance that the hall and everything she and the prefects had put together was intact - Kelly darted after Puck.

Kaleb Kennedy

Kaleb prided himself on being a good friend, but he never expected anything back in return. While he had sent a few flowergrams to some of his friends (and to his sister Inara as well <3), he didn't expect any flowergrams for himself. So when he glanced at the table near the letter K and saw a few for himself, he let out a surprised gasp. It was a sudden nice surprise, and he quickly grabbed them all to read, the grin on his face unwavering.

While he didn't care for flowers, it was the thought that counted. He got one from @Jack Rodgers which made Kaleb super happy. He opened the next one from @Damaris Denton, another good friend of his, where she wrote that he was the best Gryffindor. He rocked back and forth a bit, little a small chuckle out. The embarrassment from laughing to himself was lost on Kaleb, and he continued to read the rest of the cards. He half-expected @Inara Kennedy to send him one, if only because she was an amazing sister. He hoped she would like the one he sent her, though she beat him at it incredibly: she asked for a rainbow bouquet! The one he received from @Phillip Aldermaston left him very confused, the only moment where the grin on his face disappeared. But he shrugged it off, deciding to ask the Hufflepuff about it the next time he saw him.

The last one...the last one was a bit weird. Kaleb had seen the option for gray wilting flowers, and he used that option to send one to the Slytherin Head Girl herself. The gray was meant to show dislike, right? So why oh why was @Brigit Raske sending Kaleb gray flowers and telling him that she just wanted to be friends? He hadn't really seen or talked to the girl since the day she made @Casper Abernathy flustered in the Gryffindor commonroom, but the confusion was clear on Kaleb's face. "We are friends....huh?" Kaleb mumbled to himself.

He pocketed the notes, the experience of getting flowers starting off high and strong and ending on a very confused note. He decided to deal with that later. He saw his dormmate shuffle off, and he rushed after him. Kaleb had something he needed to do.

Briar Naaktgeboren

"Dear Briar Naaktgeboren, you're the best. Love, Briar Naaktgeboren. Awwww," Briar placed a hand over her heart and smiled. "I love myself, too!" She gave herself a hug and skipped away happily with her rainbow flowers.

She loved herself a lot.

Kieran Wells

Kieran forgot for a moment that he had sent himself a flower.... that a secret admirer had sent him a flower. He had mixed feelings about a spring fling event but couldn't keep himself from a school wide event full of his peers probably doing something stupid. If anything, Kieran was just here to observe and remember. A very very very very very small part of him hoped some cheesy chick flick life changing romantic event like thing happened. Huh? What? He shook the very very very very very tiny little hope from his brain, his eye catching a glowing red flower.

For him?! His heart skipped a beat at the sight of it before he remembered who is was from. His secret admirer, duh. "For me?" Kieran wondered out loud, hoping someone would witness this moment. If not, at least he had a nice red flower. Kieran could always 'accidentally' leave it out in the boys dorm for the guys to see. He snorted at his words, realizing how incredibly lame they were. 'I think you are great'.... jeez. Any thoughts of being a romantic novel writer were totally off the table.

He blinked as there was another glowing flower calling to him. For him? Really? Kieran didn't realize how nice it was to receive a flower, he was sorta understanding the ladies' joy. He picked up his yellow flower and read the note attached, not really sure what to expect. Hint: it wasn't what he was expecting, spoiler: it was better. Kieran burst out laughing. Hhahhahahaha pugs hahahahahaha oh pug noo, he was looking like a fool now. He had to find @Fern Blackburn to tell her how great that was and see if her flowers turned out just as pretty.

Jenna James

Professor James did not like 'dances' or anything that smacked of frivolity. After her harrowing experience trying to explain sexual misconduct to @Jake Morent earlier in the year, Jenna wanted nothing to do with adolescent hormones ever again - much less in a huge throbbing, gyrating group ... like what transpired in the Great Hall.

She sneered at the dance floor and wanted no part of chaperoning duties so she moved to the floral arrangements to 'supervise' over there. The surprise she felt when she saw her own name on one of the placards was tempered by terror and disappointment.

"Surely he knows better than to... no. No he does not." She took in a deep breath and let it out heavily, aggrieved by the romanticism of her beloved; attacked by the literal Flowery gestures of feeling. With an upturned nose, Jenna slid the flowers with her name on them towards herself before allowing her gaze to drift slightly further down the table where she noticed @Professor Althaus' name on a card too.

Some trollop is buying flowers for Kasper?!

"Oh. Well. That's nice." She muttered, completely unaffected by feelings at this development.

When no one was nearby, she reached out took his flowers too and retreated to a corner so she could read about the harpy she was apparently about to put down only to find out her own name was signed to the card along with an alarming AND VERY FALSE confession. "Uh... "

Professor Althaus

Jenna had been dragged into the Spring Fling because of her duties as Deputy Headmistress, but she'd stayed because Kasper was a very persuasive date. Thing. He wasn't really sure if he was actually allowed to call himself her date, but he'd worn a tie that matched Jenna's dress, so it was about as close to a confirmation as he was gonna get.

He'd been doing some Actual Chaperoning when he stopped some students from trying to spike the pumpkin juice (which probably had already been spiked; he didn't really know or care -- the elves could deal with the mess). So of course, he'd lost sight of Jenna, but that had only lasted for maybe three seconds before he saw her peeking at the flower table and then walking away.

Kasper took quick strides to catch up to her, speaking over her shoulder when he was close enough. "Anything good?" he asked, figuring there would be lots of drama-inducing flowers and notes sent between all of the teenagers at the dance. "Who're those from?" he asked, a tinge of jealousy in his voice at the sight of the flowers in her hands. Because one would've been fine, but if she had multiple ... well, then, Kasper had questions.

Especially since he hadn't sent any.

Ahem.

"Who're they from?" he asked, stepping around to stand in front of her. He flicked a finger over one of the notecards and paused when he saw his name in the to section. "Wait..." Kasper tilted his head in an attempt to read the words before his eyes widened and a grin the size of Saturn spread across his face. "Really?" Kasper couldn't help the excitement in his voice. "Wait, you were gonna tell me via a flower notecard?" he asked, an eyebrow raised at Jenna. It didn't seem like a Jenna move; Kasper was more likely to send flowers and give big news that way. But he also wasn't going to be against it if what the note said was true.

Jenna James

Of course Kasper found her before she was able to figure out what to do with this random happenstance. And though the note of jealousy in his voice was intriguing the elation and hope on his face that followed was terrifying.

It would have been fun to draw out this latent jealously streak that Jenna had just discovered. She pocketed the information quickly - negative emotions were a rare treasure in the Hufflepuff male that was Kasper Althaus, he was never anything but annoyingly happy and patient and polite. The corner of her mouth even lifted before he got a good look at the card and she got a good look at his reaction.

Did he actually think she was ... with child?! ....Did he even understand biology?! Hope springs eternal apparently, poor sod. ...Wait.. An even more horrific thought entered Jenna's mind:  Did he want to have children... with her?!

Without another moment's hesitation Jenna set the flowers on fire so hot that they and their notecards incinerated within seconds.

"What? No. Of course not. Obviously someone's idea of a joke, really Kasper." She actually worried about his brain power sometimes. She stumbled to a stop not really sure how to address the issue of why she thought that was impossible and also how big of an idiot he was and also ABSOLUTELY NOT.

"...."

"So uh. Cleared that up then."

Molly watched the exchange between Professor James (the woman who'd unceremoniously gashed her arms with boils) and Professor Althaus (the man she barely knew - a sad prop in her ploy) from afar, arms crossed, smirking.

Unfortunately for Jenna, Kasper did have wonderful, practically movie accurate timing. He was only just able to see Jenna's name on the to part of the other notecard before Jenna set both flowers on fire. "Jennaaaaa," he whined, pouting as he watched the flowers fall apart into ashes. Kasper paused when he comprehended what she'd said. "Wait ... no?" he asked, his face falling a little. "Damn." He didn't have a reaction, considering he needed a moment to process all of the information he'd just had to process.

"Wait so. You're not pregnant?" he asked, eyebrows furrowed. "Who sent you a flower?" Because that was, obviously, the next important question. Who was sending Jenna flowers at the spring fling? It wasn't him. Maybe it was Sam. Or Maureen. Or Gawk? No, their friendship didn't seem like the type.

Ew. What if it was Carter<_<

Irene Redgrave

Irene was carefully avoiding the dance floor. She had seen Toby fiddling with the decorations and knew better than to get trapped out there. It was probably the only perk of being a prefect at one of these things - she knew at least some of the tricks waiting for unsuspecting victims. Though... to be fair, the types of people who would get trapped under flowers and need to be kissed free probably wouldn't consider that a downfall - just Irene, who was dateless, per usual and a chaperone so contractually obligated to break that sort of thing up. Thanks Toby and Kelly for making my life even worse than normal.

"Hey Redgrave - Don't forget these!"

Irene blinked with surprise, about to leave the Great Hall/Ballroom to go 'patrol' the rose garden in her role as chaperone. (Before she left) Kelly yelled at Irene and pointed down the table laden with gift flowers. "Uh... ok." She walked down to the "I's" because apparently alphabetizing by last name was too much work and noted with some surprise that there were actually flowers set aside for her. Orange and Green ones. They made a garish bouquet against her pale cream dress and bemused she picked them up.

Axel's typically over the top message made her smirk. He'd probably given the same message to every female who had knocked him on his arse in the dueling chamber. The other card wasn't signed but given the tone of the message - Hey Irene, you're not complete trash, who knew? It could have come from any number of people she supposed. It could also be a joke. Still, flowers were flowers - the effort it took to send them was nice even if ill-intentioned. She'd happily take the attention.

"Thanks," she called back to Kelly - hell maybe Kelly had even sent them... maybe she was finally acknowledging that her mentee was worth something. Alas, Kelly was gone. Ok not Kelly then. With a shrug and clutching the flowers loosely at her side she set off towards the outdoors and a safe distance from any 'makeout traps'.

Sophia Hunter

Sophia knew they would need to go over to the flowergram table because there was at least one flowergram waiting for him that she had sent.  She had no idea there would be any waiting for her.  Seeing the ones from her brother, @Anton Hunter and her best friend, @Morty Gabor, she picked them up and read each of the messages, smiling as she did.  Actually, she was grinning at the message from Morty.  Yes, the colors were the Ravenclaw colors and the symbolism behind the two colors fit the pair,  It was seeing the word 'calm' involved that made her grin.  It wasn't often that that word and Morty went together.  But it was what she loved about her best friend, her energy and enthusiasm.  Looking around, she spotted both together and waved.

There was a bit of a pungent scent coming from some rather wilted, greyish petals.  The note held no name and somehow did not seem to feel very 'loving'.  Not wanting to ruin the night, Sophia put the note from the anonymous (aka @Fern Blackburn) under the others and did not mention anything to Ethan right away.

The fourth, brought an even bigger smile as she read the card from Ethan.  He wasn't the only one happy that they were together.

Jacqueline Golden-Keisi

JJ casually walked past the flowergrams. She did not want to appear too eager. She knew how it would look if she closely examined them and then walked away empty handed, and she would not take that risk. If she didn't receive a flower, she didn't need everyone else to witness her disappointment, thank you very much.

But she would get a flowergram, wouldn't she? Surely someone had thought of her. JJ was special, wasn't she?

A small smile flickered across her face when her hopes were realized, but JJ quickly replaced it with a neurtral expression as she stepped forward to pick up her flower. Blue: for "calmness, creativity, intelligence" and also Ravenclaw. It was perfect

@Dane Golden-Keisi was definitely JJ's favorite brother right now. She was going to thank him later, but for now she'd just hang around the dance with her flowergram. JJ had a plan - having the flower would confirm that she was a person worth knowing, and then she would meet more people and find more friends!

Jake didn't like dances.

Really, he didn't like giant groups of people at all, but dances were especially bad.

Jake didn't actually GO to dances, although there had been that one time they'd been forced to attend one for Professor Gawkrodger's muggle studies class. That day, Jake had been forced to ask a muggle girl to dance with him and he'd ended up getting laughed at. He'd known then that school dances were just like he'd always expected them to be, that they just weren't made for kids like him, and that he'd never go to another one again.

But the school was eerily quiet with everybody gone, and the shadows that danced in the moonlight seemed that much more chilling in the silence. Jake's stand didn't last long. Though Jake would really have rather done most anything else than go to a spring fling, especially knowing what Grace was gonna be doing there, he had eventually found himself making his way down the hallowed halls of Hogwarts and towards the Great Hall and the comforting presence of other people.

Stepping into the Hall was like stepping into a wonderland. Jake walked in slowly, gawking at the magical meadow that he found himself standing in. It was magnificent. As Hogwarts students swayed left and right, held together in the grips of passion, the Gryffindor boy made his way through the hall with his head held skywards, gazing upon all of the flowers and trees. Transfixed by the baby animals, and the way it looked like they'd stepped into a beautiful spring night, Jake wished that the Great Hall could be decorated like this ALL the time - just without the dance part.

Jake realized pretty quickly that what he was wearing was a lot different from what the others were wearing, and that perhaps he hadn't come prepared. He didn't really want to get all dressed up for a dance though. Trying to avoid anybody that he might know, Jake kept a low profile. Being small, it was easy to avoid detection when you didn't really want to be seen. Jake passed the flower dropoffs without even a glance, but before long Jake heard a voice.

"Hey kid, you're Jake Morent, right?" asked somebody that Jake didn't know.

"Um...yeah....?" Jake replied, looking up strangely, wondering how come they knew him when he certainly didn't know THEM.

"I think those ones over there are for you," they said, pointing to a glowing pile of flowers on a sparse table that Jake hadn't noticed before. If there had been other bouquets before, a lot of them were gone now.

Jake looked up at the helpful student as if they had two heads. He'd definitely just said 'Jake Morent', but it still didn't make sense. Jake's cheeks turned a little red as he wondered what the big idea was, and why somebody was making stuff up. It could have been some joke, he decided. Something from Sully or Gary just to make fun of him, and make him feel bad since the only people that would get Jake something like that were the people who hated him. But when Jake took up the beautiful bouquet of bright and vibrant flowers in some of his most favorite colors he was surprised to see that the name of his card was that of his best friend's.

Jake looked down solemnly, his dark eyes pensive as he stared at the card. Grace had got him flowers...? Grace had got HIM flowers. After everything...? The boy put them up to his nose and sniffed, taking in the sweet smell and then admired the colors once more before returning to the words, reading them slowly. He swallowed.

Dear Jake, Best Friends 4 Ever, Love Grace

"...You alright?" the other student asked, looking at Jake quizzically. Jake looked up from where he'd been reading the message for the eighth time and blinked at him with startled misty eyes. "Um...y-yeah...I...I'm okay," Jake said hastily, before turning away.

He had to go find Grace.
