Professor Qin

Detention: River Wolfe

11 posts in this topic

Ever since she was hired, Meryl had given her fair share of detentions. Most of them aided creatures in some manner and this one was no different. It was half an hour after curfew and the professor led the pesky Ravenclaw first year and one of the Gryffindor prefects, Addison, up into the West Tower, where the tired owls roosted. The place was typically maintained by the house elves but Meryl decided that they, especially Noodle, deserved a break for the night.

"Your job," Meryl started as she turned to the first year, "... is to sweep the owlery clean, remove all stools and carcasses and refill all the feeding trays with dried meat. If you wake up any of the owls while you work, you will get one more night of owlery duty. Ms. Toft, do report to me if that happens and I will make further arrangements."

With that, the woman left the owlery, cloak billowing in her wake.

(OOC: Hello River! I've assigned Addison to watch over you for your detention. To complete it and earn a prize, post at least three times with 50 words for each post. Have fun!)

Following Professor Qin to the West tower, River wasn't to sure as to why he was here.  Never actually being in the owlry, the pair was literally a few floors below Ravenclaw tower. In which he could have just spent his detention there.

However, as he was now serving his detention, and could see all the owls resting up ahead, what River really wanted to do was pet them and try to befriend them.  There was one small problem to that, the first year was in no mood tonight to do so.

"Fein."

'Fine.'

The boy snarled speaking in German as he reserved to do so only when he was properly angry.  Looking to Addison, as she would be keeping an eye on him, River grabbed a broom and began his punishment.

This version of River was the exact opposite of what she'd encountered in the dueling chamber. The River back then was happy, excited, effervescent - this one was dark and brooding, terse and moody in his demeanor. As Addison understood it, the professors usually stuck around to oversee detentions, but she knew professor Qin tended to stray from that pattern; she herself had been given more or less free reign during her detention in Hogsmeade last year, with professor Qin.

Pulling up an old, rickety chair, Addison cast a scouring charm on the seat and back, then plopped herself down, settling in for what she was sure to be an uneventful watch.

Panda's favorite perch was at eye-level to a food-giver, and far enough from the door to avoid a draft. His chubby bulk was perched there, preening himself contentedly. Rather than go out for a hunt, he had stayed in tonight, and now what luck! Two little food-givers! The small ones usually didn't come in here when it was dark, and Panda fluffed up in excitement. Maybe they had snacks!

“Hoot!” he hooted, and fluttered over to perch on the back of the food-giver's seat.

[Hello River and Addison! Ambience owl passing through, or staying to play, if you want! You are welcome to disregard this post if you prefer. You didn't wake Panda, he was already up, I promise! <3]

The first year was making great progress, he had nearly almost half the floor finished.  That was until he looked back and saw it pelted again with Owl poop.

Turning to look to Addison as there was now an owl behind her, River held up his arms and spoke.

"Ich stelle das nicht auf!"

'I'm not picking that up!'

The boy continued to snarl in German, turning to continue his detention River felt the unmistakable felling that was an Owl dropping landing on his head.  Quickly looking up in Rage, River took his broom and swung it at the lowest hanging rafter making a good loud thud noise."

"Oi Welcher von euch hat das gemacht ?!

'Oi!  Which one of you did that?!'

The Ravenclaw shouted unbeknownst to him that he would be featured on the latest episode of "When Owls Attack."

OOC: Hey Panda! I have no probs with you sticking around!  And I'm sorry for the attack River did on your Owl friends, he's not happy right now D:

Addison nearly jumped out of her seat. River speaking in a foreign language that she didn't understand was fine, but taking a swing of his broom at one of the owls - well, that was something not even she could look the other way on. Her own owl, Quigley, slept in the owlery, too! "Oi!" she hissed at him, drawing her wand. Her first instinct was to give him a solid rubber-arm jinxing, to make sure he wouldn't be able to do that again, but professor Qin might not approve of such a tactic.

She whispered, between clenched teeth, "What do you think you're doing? You're not supposed to wake up the owls, remember? Keep your voice down!"

A very loud sound made the tubby owl jump, and he nearly toppled from his spot. Panda hooted in panic, and moved along the chair back closer to that food-giver [Addison]. He snuggled against her and hooted softly in worry. Perhaps she would protect him from the shouting food-giver. That one frightened him. He watched [River] with huge, wary green eyes.

So his anger wasn't warranted for, but, then again, River was like Tinkerbell, or any fairy from Neverland.  He was so used to feeling happy all the time he didn't really know how to manage himself when he was angry, instead of releasing his anger in little short farts, it normally erupted all at once shaking him to the core.

""Das ist einfach für dich zu sagen, du bist nicht derjenige, der mit Eule poo gepinnt wird!"

'Thats easy for you to say you're not the one being pelted with Owl poo!'

He screamed to Addison.  Of course, right as he said that, another owl dropping had landed onto his shoulder.  Picking his broom up once more, River struck the rafter once more.  But this time, and owl had flown down and began to attack him.  Dropping his broom and flailing his arms, River did the only thing he could do, and that was to run around flailing his arms.

"Alright, that's enough," she muttered. Her first impression of River had been a good one, but the situation was devolving into a full meltdown, and short of completely paralysing him (which was a spell she was working on), Addison was going to do whatever it took to keep him from both waking up the entire school with his tantrum, and from hurting anymore owls. "Silencio! Vitis cole!"

The first spell would seal his voice, and the second would conjure tendrils of devil's snare to wrap him up and constrict him. "Five points from Ravenclaw!"

Could she actually do this? Was it legal to take away points from someone who was already serving a detention? To this moment, Addison had been loathe to dole out punishments with her station, but right now, in the heat of moment, the words came whipping out of her mouth. "Now shut up and calm down! Professor Qin's going to deal with you, when she gets back."

By now, his attack wasn't letting up, and to River, in his current state of mind, it was a battle to the death.  That was, of course, until the prefect gave the owl an adantage.

"  !"  The boy shouted as nothing came out.  Then suddenly he was wrapped in black licorice that somehow knew how to move.  With his upper torso bound, the first year continued to run as the owl kept up it's attack.

"       !     '        !                      !"

Of course no one could hear him, and that was the point of the spell, Not paying attention where he was going and keeping his eyes on the owl, River briefly looked ahead of him and plowed full force into the Owlry's main wall.

Bouncing back with hard thug to the cobblestone floor, the first year was knocked out cold.

... Well, that solved itself in a hurry.

Addison sighed, as River lay on the owlery floor, unconscious. She peered down the tower steps, to check if professor Qin was yet returned. "Sorry for bothering you. He'll probably be back to clean up the rest of this," she whispered to the owls. Pointing her wand at the boy's form, she incanted, "Mobilicorpus!" and levitated his body, and dragged him in tow as she made her way to deposit River in the hospital wing.
