The Great Rock Search of 2037

Desmond Potter

Who decided that it was a good thing that Desmond Potter, Rowan Allard, and Seeley Pichardo had mentees, they were only twelve years old. It seemed that the prefects decided that it was a good idea. So here he was, with painted rocks in his hand. The one good thing about magic, paint a lot of rocks in a little bit of time.

“Alright, Seeley and Rowan. We just need to hide these around the lake and then have Ryan and Lindy go find them. The one who finds the most, can win something.” What would the prize be, that he didn’t know? Rowan and Seeley could think about that one.

After the hide the rocks all over the lake, they waited for Lindy and Ryan to make their way out to the lake. He hoped that they would be there soon. This was going to be fun, twelve-year old could be amazing mentors.

Welcome Ryan and Lindy to the great rock search of 2037. Rowan, Seeley, and Des have hidden rocks all over the lake. Your job is to find them. At the bottom of your post, pick a number 1-5 and we will do a random number to win. There will be a few rounds, and the one with the most will win a prize when the shops reopen (everyone will get something.) You can ask questions, anything while doing this game. We will answer all questions you have.

Rowan Allard

Whoever had made the decision to allow the three of them to 1) be in charge and 2) be in charge together, had either lived under a rock for the last year or decided that putting the troublemakers together was a good idea. Either way, Rowan was nearly positive this group was doomed.

A hunt for rocks wasn't exactly the best game to play, but it had allowed her to flex her artistic muscles. Every rock she'd decorated was a mix of vibrant colors and glitter. A few lucky ones even glowed in the dark. Perhaps her mentees might not appreciate her hard work, but at the end of the day, she'd be taking home at least one Rock pet (probably the gold one she'd named Stone Cold Steve Austin or the purple one she called Dwayne.)

Her hiding placed hadn't been exactly hard, she was barely grazing the five foot mark and couldn't exactly reach any of the high spots that would have been good for her rocks. Instead, they were near flowers or in old rabbit holes. That was still good though, right? Probably?

"Do you think we should have let them help us decorate the rocks? That would have been a good bonding experience or something, right?"

Ryan was beyond excited to finally be spending time with her mentors. She knew Rowan and Dezzy already, but hadn't spent much time with Seeley. Lindy was one of her best friends and the two girls had squealed happily when they'd learned they'd been paired together for the Mentoring Program. She'd been told to meet them all at the lake, which was what the First Year was currently doing.

She'd woken pretty early from some unknown ruckus in the common room. Instead of being cranky about it, Ryan had decided to take advantage of the early hours and head to the library to get some homework done. Sure, she could have done it in the common room, but there was a suspicious smell of Dungbombs around the place and plus, the library had reference books that the Hufflepuff common room just didn't have.

Ryan spotted Dezzy a ways away and a huge smile lit her face. Desmond was one of her favorite people. Skipping a little, she skidded to a stop and then waved at her friends. "Hi, guys! So, what are we doing? Oh!" she shouted, her eyes wide. "I almost forgot!" She stepped forward and gave Desmond a tight hug.

Lindy Rose

Lindy had been in a tizzy all day. She had excitedly squealed about her mentors with Ryan, and how she was paired with a good friend of hers. There was literally nothing that could go wrong. At least, that's what she had thought. Until Lindy remembered that Rowan didn't really like sweets. So she had to come up with something for Rowan would like for cupcakes.

Basically, when she showed up to the lake, she was breathless, covered in flour, and carrying three boxes of a dozen cupcakes each. There was only five of them.

"I didn't ... know what kind everyone liked, but I wanted to make cupcakes for everyone," she said, holding the boxes out to everyone. "Some of them are sugar free too," she added, giving Rowan a hopeful smile before grinning at her other mentors too. They seemed nice.

Seeley Pichardo

Oooh glitter.

That was probably Seeley's favorite part of all this.  Too be honest, she wasn't so sure about the whole mentoring thing in the first place.  She'd signed up because, well because it was Row and Des and honestly, how hard could it be?  But, then the more she'd started to think on it... the more she'd started to worry.  Sure, she fancied herself somewhat of a leader - she did head up the only investigative services that existed on Hogwarts property, but she also kind of expected her agents (read:friends) to kind of keep up with her.  She'd already had to rescue Lindy from James' office once and that worried her.

She didn't want to hold their hands through everything.  Except maybe one person's hand... just a little bit butthatpersonwasn'thermentee.

But, Row and Des had insisted it would be a good idea, and to prove it this whole rock thing had been organized and they'd brought glitter into it, and Seeley couldn't resist some good glitter fun.   She'd even decorated a few of the rocks with an HBI theme.  That might maybe spark Lindy or Ryan's interest in some way, she could only hope.

Fast forward to standing lakeside when the two girl's arrived and Lindy even had cupcakes in hand.   Maybe she could get on board with this mentoring thing after all.

"Hey guys!" She smiled brightly!  You ready to find some... uh.. rocks?"  Hopefully that sounded exciting.   She would definitely nom on those cupcakes.

“That would have been fun.” He said to Rowan, but then they would know what they were looking for. Maybe next time they would be able to help. Right now, this would be a fun bonding activity, they could ask questions while looking for rocks. No one said that Rowan, Desmond, or Seeley would make a good team.

Ryan was the first to show up, he knew that she would remember him. As they were close friends Meeting last year, it seemed that she forgot what they were doing when she gave Desmond a hug. “You are looking for color rocks, also any questions you can ask at any time.” That is what mentors were supposed to say.

Then Lindy showed up with cupcakes. “Lindy, did anyone ever tell you how amazing you are.” He said looking at all the cupcakes. “I will take one of each, beside the sugar free ones.” What is life with no sugar.

Looking at Seeley, and then back at everyone else. “Alright, who has found the most rocks?” At least it seemed like someone had found rocks.

Ryan is the closets she wins this round

Ryan squealed with happiness when Lindy showed up, giving her a hug, as she also looked into the box full of cupcakes she'd brought/made. "Lindy, you are the answer to all things good!" the brunette said with a laugh. "I'll takkkkeeee..." she said, hovering her finger over several cupcakes, trying to make a decision, "-oh, this one!" Ry carefully pulled out one that had caramel drizzled all over it. It was chocolate, too. Yum all around.

"Oh, that's right! I remember now," she told Desmond. He'd told her that they were doing a sort of Hide & Seek, but they were seeking rocks rather than people. Ryan smiled excitedly at Seeley and nodded her head. "Hi, Seeley! Yeah, I'm ready!" She quickly took a bite of her cupcake and smiled, her eyelashes fluttering a little. Lindy Rose was the Queen of Cupcakes. She owned the land.

Finishing it quickly (it never stood a chance), Ryan began searching. She walked down to the lake's edge and then smiled, as she found a bright green rock painted with a four-leaf clover. "I found one!" she shouted at them, waving it in the air.

Rowan Allard

Rowan was so much like the sun: bright and welcoming. That was what people tended to see when they interacted with her - smiles and laughter - that's all they thought she was. It seemed that people forgot that the sun was horrid sometimes; hot and dangerous. One day it was going to explode and consume them all. They seemed for forget that Rowan might one day do that too.

That was why Lindy's words caused a twist in her stomach and her face to momentarily blanch to a pale white. The younger girl had seen a brief sun flare, a spike of Rowan's temper over an incident she'd not understood. It had been a poor choice of words, an unearthed memory that always caused her fists to ball and her jaw to tense.

Lindy hadn't known any of that though. She was so young; so lucky she hadn't been at Hogwarts the previous year. Had she been there, the cupcakes would be less frequent and the smiles even more so. With a soft, sad smile, she took one of the first sweets she could reach - sugar free or not she was going to eat it and she was going to enjoy it.

"Honestly, there's one special rock that I hid extra hard." She said before sinking her teeth into the cupcake she'd taken. The sweetness hit her like a truck - hard and fast. The sugar rush that would accompany it would leave her bouncing off the walls for hours, "Nice eyes there, Ry."

She threw a thumbs up to the dark-haired girl who'd retrieved a green rock. Rowan had most certainly not painted that one. There was one, however, quite close to her that was purple with large eyelashes and googly eyes that was totally Row's. She'd called that one Miss Summers, gossip in training.

Lindy grinned and nodded at Seeley's question, excited as she could be about finding rocks. Mostly because her mentors had put the work into it, and that was all that mattered, right? "Do we get to keep them? Oh, we could have a lovely rock garden in our dorm!" she said excitedly, eyes glittering at the idea. Once everyone got a cupcake (Lindy was horribly, horribly pleased when Rowan took one), she placed the boxes of cupcakes on the ground, careful not to tip them over. Although she wanted to keep them safe, she was also more interested in finding the rocks.

At Rowan's announcement that she'd hid a special rock, Lindy's eyes grew wide, perking up as she started looking more earnestly. She glanced over when Ryan found one, a grin on her face. "That's awesome, Ry! It can be your lucky rock," she said, tapping the green four leaf clover on the rock. Tucking a strand of loose hair behind her ear, Lindy narrowed her eyes and started looking for anything that might be very different. Maybe she'd be able to notice an out of place color while she searched.

Desmond Potter

Desmond was being a lazy mentor, he was sitting there doing nothing as Ryan and Lindy was looking for rock that were hiding all over the place. He should get up and check on them. Wondering what Seeley and Rowan were doing.

He had no clue if Ryan or Lindy had more rocks then one another. It seems like that had both picked up rocks, which was good. He had to make sure that they were the right rocks.

“Sorry, I think I might have taken a nap.” He was not the best mentor, he was lazy and didn’t care. Still , he wanted to make sure his mentees thought that they were cool.

Lindy was the closer this round.

"Lindy, look, you found one!" Ryan shouted at her friend with glee, jumping up and down in her excitement. She had been looking around for another prettily-painted rock, but had turned around when she saw Lindy find one first. But then her attention was caught by her mentor. Or, at least, one of them. Her favorite mentor. She heard Desmond say something about taking a nap, but he had somewhat of a frown on his face.

Well, Ryan couldn't have that. Running the short distance, she got close enough to wrap her arms tight around Desmond and squeeze him with all of her might. "Don't be sad, Dezzy! You're the best kind of mentor because you're my friend! And I think this is the best mentor game ever!" Ryan made sure to direct this remark to all three of her mentors.

Ryan chooses 1.
