Quodpot Game β: Slytherin vs. Hufflepuff (April 19, 2017)

VH34

A week before the final game of the season, Slytherin stretched out an arm of friendship to Hufflepuff for a friendly game of Quodpots. Voldric was not really familiar with the rules fully but it seemed easy enough. He was only disappointed in the lack of beaters and bludgers to the gameplay.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Determined by coin toss, HUFFLEPUFF has the quod in sector one and six hours from the time of this post to complete their turn.

Slytherin will post in #006400 :::: Hufflepuff will post in #B8860B

The rules of Quodpot can be found here. Borrowed from the 2014 game (Gryff vs Rave).

Only exception to the rules is that we don't play for 48h. See bottom of post for end of game.
There are no officials. Anarchy reigns supreme.

(Or captains will settle disputes but let’s try not to have any, k?)

Having never played Quodpot before, deeming it as the less popular sibling of Quidditch, Mercutio was curious to give the game a try. Playing with exploding quaffles? Sure, why not. As if the wizarding world couldn't get much more dangerous at this point. At least they weren't adding in bludgers into the mix. The last thing he wanted was to injure half his team in this quick scrimmage right before the start of an actual game.

"Nobody better die! We have a game to play Friday!" he shouted to his team encouragingly. Or threatened. Depends on how you looked at it. Flashing a grin at Voldric, who was a good dude for inviting Hufflepuff to play, he snatched up the quod and chucked it towards Delia. Except oops, sticky fingers. "Sorry! Try again!" Apparently his first attempt failed. :X SORRY DELIA.

Why even was Delia Halliwell-Midnight playing this? Oh right because she was a part of a team and it was her job to do such a thing. She was going to be a team player and they were playing quodpot, whatever this weird American thing was. She hadn’t ever played this before and supposedly it was like quidditch with all its cool awesomeness but Delia took one look at the thing she caught from her captain. “If this explodes on me I am quitting your team. I JUST EXFOLIATED.” Delia was a bonafide 100% priss and she was always going to complain about everything in sports related things. That was just how Delia rolled.

Also, maybe just for once today, Mercutio was sort of looking cute.

“Merc, where’s my bat? I want my bat.” Desmond complained, feeling oddly nekkid without his precious beater bat. His only stint as ‘chaser’ had been during tryouts and even that hadn’t lasted long. “And…what are we playing again? Quodpot? Is this supposed to help us in our game against Ravenclaw?” The answer was supposedly a yes but…Desmond clearly wasn’t going to get any practice as a beater in this weird mimicry.

Sigh.

Oh look the ball. “Thanks Delia…I think.” He was supposed to pass it to someoneeeee…right? Who’s open? Ah – there we go.

“MARGIE LOOK SHARP….. DON’T YOU DARE DROP IT!” Because she’d be in a world of pain if she did.

Quodpot sounded like some Muggle invention in which two hipsters decided a regular fondue pot was too mainstream but apparently it was a real sport. Margaret had no idea why the captains wanted to play such a foreign game shortly before the final playoff but as a good little player, she hopped on her broom and pretended to enjoy whatever was going on.

She hadn't been able to play the last game against Slytherin, so this was a good opportunity for her to assess the other team and learn who to avoid... and who to befriend!

"Hi Kieran," Margie smiled and waved at the Slytherin before a Quod?ball?? landed in her hands and she chucked it towards Despot.

Desmond was just trying to get better at the game, after playing in the last game. He knew that he wanted to get better at passing. Since his captain said that they were going to Quodpot game he was down for it. Anything to be able to help out his team. As he was sitting waiting for the quaffle to head his way.

Then before he knew it Margie was passing it towards him. “I got this.” He said as he went towards the goal and made a shot. Now if only he could do that in a real game. “Did that work, awesome.” He was happy with himself. Knowing that he was about to do that. This was going to be loads of fun.

This was a great idea. The greatest of ideas ever had. Voldric didn't know why captains had stopped playing Quodpot but it was a shame. Quodpot was the best game in existence, except for Quidditch, therefore every team should totally play it.

Maybe Slytherin could use it as a tryouts game next year. He'd leave a suggestion note for Kirk in the Super Cool Secret Slytherin Captain Binder. It was green and silver with glitter and stickers. Kirk probably hated it. Kirk hated anything connected to happiness. It was a shame.

"Just move faster than Hufflepuff, Viola, you've got this!" Because Voldric was a good, supportive captain and he loved his team. He would miss this team. They were the very best team there ever was.

"Um ... what are we doing?" No really, it didn't make sense to Viola. Wasn't the match for the quidditch cup coming up really soon? So why were they doing ... this? Whatever this was. Viola could not figure out how this could possibly help Slytherin prepare for the big game ahead of them. This was not only completely illogical, it was dangerous! And probably also tiring! Why weren't they saving their energy for the game? Or for practice for the game? What was everyone thinking?????

"I don't want to explode get it away!" the little Wayland squeaked as she threw the ball (why wasn't it a quaffle?!) at someone, not caring what happened to it.

"Whyyyyy," she whined, clearly distressed.

What are we even doing....  Irene had more important things to do than play exploding snap with quaffles.  She had homework and a dueling tournament bout to prepare for not to mention her hardcore training sessions to try and convince Voldric that she could be something other than a chaser for once in three years. COUGH COUGH POINTED GLARE.

But apparently appeasing Voldric meant that she had to play exploding quid. Or whatever this game was, she couldn't be bothered to learn about it because she only had room in her giant brain for important things.

"Ok fine, give it here Viola." Irene frowned and lifted up her arm cautiously. She didn't want to lose a limb or anything.  She might need that later.

There was absolutely no way this was a real thing. But apparently people played Quodpot, which sounded fake but ... okay. Abby wasn't going to complain because she missed the adrenaline of Quidditch and this was, like, Diet Quidditch. Not that anyone on the team needed a diet considering the god awful workout regimen Voldric put them on. She was eighty percent sure he was just trying to get them all as bulky as Luke, which was a nice sentiment but. Abby thought she looked cuter with a delicate lady bod, so she was going to have to request a different regimen so she didn't end up looking like a triangle woman.

That was a terrifying thought.

Proof of concept that Voldric was lighting fast: he passed the Quod from the hoops, raced to the other end while his team displayed some well-practised team play, caught a pass and then shot and scored! Epic. It felt good to fly out on the pitch instead of being grounded (figuratively) by the hoops, as per usual in his late-Hogwarts career. He was now hoping for the Quod to explode though. It had stayed intact long enough, passing through both badger and snake hands. How long did these things usually take? Was the Quod even still functional? It hadn’t been in use for several years.

He hadn’t to admit that this was a wonderful idea. The reason he hated to admit it? Because it had not been his idea. It was a way to chill, to be with his team, and to just have some fun before the game that weekend. Preparation had been difficult and full out for weeks. This… this wasn’t quidditch. This was something special and unique. Quod was starting to grow on him a lot. “DELIA! CATCH THIS QUICKLY OR IT WILL EXPLODE AND RUIN YOUR PRETTY HAIR.” He shouted at the second year, before he threw it in her direction.

Delia was playing quodpot again and took the thing from Kit. “Hey! I don’t want it either!” She quickly threw it in a different direction this time aiming for Margaret. “Sorry about this but I totally do not want to keep it forever. Look at these nails.” She held them out to Margie while taking a look at Kit. “I know you’re nice and all but…can you please be careful with that thing? What if it exploded on me?!” She wanted to give puppy dog eyes at Kit but like, did she want anything from him? Well, maybe for him to think she was pretty but Delia wanted that from every boy in her life.

I don't... I don't want to look at your nails, Delia! Margie raged silently, all the while smiling like a tangerine because she was a sweetie-pie on the outside. She was too busy focused on the fact that stupid Despot made a goal on his first try. Great! As if he needed an ego boost.

If only Margaret had been closer to the goal posts... then she could've made the goal. The first year reluctantly took the Quod from Delia and, realizing she was too far away from the goal, tossed it over to Luca half-heartedly. And then naturally, of course, Despot took the Quod from Luca and secured another goal.

Life was completely unfair! Maybe Havana wasn't off for setting the boy on fire.

It was almost Luca's birthday! In less than a week, he would turn fourteen. He would finally be a man! Luca thought of the chest hair and beard and armpit hair and back hair (maybe not..) he would grow as soon as he hit fourteen. Soon, he could go shirtless around the pitch and rival the older players, too. Maybe his voice would suddenly drop fifty octaves too!

He needed to plan his birthday party ASAP. He had a general guest list in mind: Beyonce, maybe the Hufflepuff Quid team but maybe not because he was spending way too much time with them already... Headmistress Flamel? Luca squinted.

Taking the Quod from Margie (who lightly resembled a potato but whatever), he threw it over to Despot, swearing that Potter name or not, if the boy didn't make it through the hoop, he would be The Uninvited One.

This was not that hard at all, he was enjoying this. It was a lot simple then playing a regular game. Though he liked the normal game more. As he was flying around waiting for his team to pass the quaffle to him. He didn't know how he was going to keep scoring. He  thought for sure that he was going to miss it and someone would take it away from him.

Though as Luca passed it to him he caught it and threw it, and it went in again. "Twice. That is awesome." He said as he let it in and went to try and take it from the other team. He hoped that this was working out well. Desmond hoped that this was going to work out well. Now he just had to wait to see what the other team was going to do.
