Sorting Hat
Feb 24 2007, 05:38 PM
I have Sorted many across the years;
Students, big and small.
So slip me in between you ears
And then I shall see all.
I'll peep inside your little head,
Passing by all the fluff,
Looking through the life you've led,
For some interesting stuff.
Perhaps you are a Gryffindor,
A vessel of bravery and pride.
Godric, a man of the sword
Will gladly take your side.
If it is hard work you savour,
And friendship, above the rest,
The it is yellow and black you favour
Among Hufflepuff's best.
Devoid of doubt in your acts,
In Ravenclaw you might belong.
You seek comfort in the facts
And are rarely ever wrong.
Should Salazaar select you,
Ambition rules your heart.
The cunning skills of Slytherin
Set his students apart.
So slip me on, my daring friend,
And see what I have to say.
I think you'll thank me in the end,
Let the Sorting be on its way!

Connor McIntire
Feb 24 2007, 08:00 PM
Connor snaked between a handful of soon-to-be-first years who were apparently star-struck by… the giant room and the completely fake-looking stars someone had pasted to the ceiling. “‘Scuse me, you’re kinna in the way,” he said. He nudged the nearest kid. “Any chance you could possibly move?”
The kid was actually a girl, who glared at him and haughtily stomped off.
If Connor wasn’t Connor, he’d be offended. Anyway he made his way down the aisle, completely aware that all the other students sitting at their tables were looking at him. It sort of unnerved him, but he was also sort of used to it. Only this was different because Connor was pretty sure they were thinking stuff like ‘OMGFRESHMEAT!’ and so on.
Yuck.
So far, he’d had a ‘let’s press your face against the glass until we see who gets the most boogies on the glass’ contest, then played a ridiculously raucous game of ‘the blame game’ with a bunch of people he hadn’t ever met before. The coolest thing was that Connor was sure he’d made some awesome friends. The sad thing was that an older student had said that the chances were good that they’d end up in different Houses and hate each other. Why? Connor had asked. Because that’s how it happens, the older boy had said before he disappeared.
The ‘advice’ was clearly designed to keep Connor on his toes, but this is Connor we’re talking about. He was more determined than ever to find those kids who’d been in his compartment. It didn’t matter if they were in ‘different houses’, why should it? Why should it matter that he had no idea what he was doing? Connor wormed around the people waiting while some old lady was talking about what they’d have to do with a hat.
And if this whole friendship got him into trouble, that’d be even better. He was inexplicably drawn to anything forbidden and he had a feeling that these next seven years would be no different. Course, he’d have to get someone to explain some extra things to him because he really had no idea how all this wizardy stuff worked.
“Connor McIntire!” the old lady called.
Oh, right. That meant he had to go up and… do what to the hat? Uhoh. Connor pushed his way through the large group of students waiting to be sorted, climbed the stairs to the top of the platform, and sat soundly on the stool. The woman placed the hat upon his head…
You're a brave young man who will stand up for those who are weaker than himself. There's also a fair share of recklessness in your character and a quick wit that you seem to like to use for pranks. You belong in GRYFFINDOR!
Yolanda Blithe
Feb 24 2007, 10:13 PM
Well this was it. Yolanda was going to offically become a witch. The cute innocent little girl was so happy she was skipping. Beaming broadly at everyone, she made she they all thought she was cute. She was so ready. This was something she'd waited her whole life to do... WAIT! Scratch that!
Yolanda tugged in an annoyed way at the ends of her robes. Sumner just didn't know that your clothes were actually supposed to FIT you! That was the last time she went shopping with her brother. But Sumner was long gone. She had said good-bye to him hours before. Now she'd finally arrived at the place where she'd spend the next year of her life. She felt moody, and watched with dark eyes as the other students chattered.
The black robes fit her mood, dull. Her black hair and pale skin made her look like a witch you would see in a movie... The kind of witch Yolanda was used to.
Following the group of students, Yolanda starred a girl down, the girl looked close to tears. The crowd made it's way through the front entrance of the castle. Everyone else was gapping, but Yoda didn't think it was all that great. An old castle, big deal.
They formed a line and made their way into the entrance Hall. The older students were looking at them with curiousty. Yoda avoided their eyes.
After waiting for what seemed like eons, Yoda heard her name. "Blithe, Yolanda!" She notcied several heads turn at her unusual first name. Whatever, she loved it.
Making her way slowly to the stool, she felt the hat placed on top of her head. ECK! It stunk like sweat! "Just hurry and get this smelly old hat off my head!" Yoda thought to herself. "I hate people starring at me! Make it stop!" She whined silently, as the moments ticked by.
Smelly? Who are you calling smelly? My, my, children just aren’t like they used to be, minding their elders! Oh, I guess I shouldn’t go on telling you off and just get this over with since you seem to be in such a dang hurry. You’ve got a sneaky nature, little girl, and a mischievous spirit that shall amuse the crowd in the HUFFLEPUFF common room considerably!
Teal-Siobhan Kraft
Feb 24 2007, 10:41 PM
Birds of feather we supposed to flock together, right? Well, apparently Teal was an armadillo or something along those lines, since she was the only one standing alone. And being alone made her nervous, which basically made Teal unable to think like a semi-normal girl.
She walked through the doors of the Great Hall, too busy fretting to admire the candles and the night sky above her. Instead, she was biting her nails and trying not to vomit. But even through the feeling like she just swallowed a rock, she couldn’t help but realize that she was there. She wasn’t going to wake up from a dream in a moment as she often feared she was. She was a witch, and she was at a school of magic. What wasn’t amazing about that?
But after that moment of glory, Teal’s stomach returned to knots. What if she was in Slytherin? She’d heard people talk about Slytherin. They were evil and they all turned out rotten. But that couldn’t be true… could it? They wouldn’t put a bunch of evil eleven-year-olds in one table! But what if they did?! What if-
Just shut up! Teal willed her mind, breaking out her usual proper ways. Slytherins can’t all be evil. Just watch.
And so she did. Next up was a boy with short red hair who scowled down at them as the hat was placed on his head. “Slytherin!” the hat called.
As the boy ran to his table, Teal had to stop herself from dry heaving. This was bad. Reallyreallyreally bad.
Next was… “Kraft, Teal-Siobhan.” Oh, jeez. For a moment, she had forgotten about her name. Biting her lip to keep from bursting out into tears like a big baby, she shimmied through the crowd, able to see the tops of most peoples’ heads with her height. The fact only upset her more, and by the time she got to the stool, her face was bright red she was shaking so hard it was a miracle she was able to sit down.
But she eased herself down and sat there, perched on top of the old, creaky stool. Everyone was staring at her. Everyone. Shaking so hard the people in the back could probably notice, she stared down at her pale, straw-thin legs. It’ll all be fine, she told herself, but she couldn’t stop her heart from almost stopping when the hat was placed on her head, preventing her from seeing anyone else or the ability to turn back.
Aw.. you really don't have to be nervous, I'm not that scary. However, the hundreds of people staring at you right now might be scary. Don't focus on them right now, focus on what I have to say. You are a very humbling person, it cracks a smile on my usually smile-less brim. You don't enjoy conflict, and you're not one to stand up for yourself, but you will stand up for others. How delightful. You're going to love this house.. and that's the house of HUFFLEPUFF!
Ashley Wicker
Feb 24 2007, 10:45 PM
The boatride was uneventful, that was for sure, well except for a couple of people falling in the lake and people laughing. Ashley didn't laugh, she was too bored to laugh and she found that laughing at someone else a waste of time when something big was about to happen. So, she just rolled her cold green eyes and sat patiently for the situation to be sorted out. It didn't take that long before the boats began to move across the wide lake. It wasn't long before she had began to drop the bad flavors of her leftover Bertie Botts' beans into the lake. They began to dissapear with in seconds of her dropping them in. Well, at least someone was enjoying them. After dumping them in, a boy in her boat spoke up.
"That's polluting, you know!"
Ashley turned to him and faced him with her dark cold eyes. "It's not polluting when the bloody mermaids and squid eat them! They'll be fine!" She turned away. "And next time, if I don't ask for your opinion, DON'T-BLOODY-SAY-ANYTHING!" Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the boy cower back sullenly. "Mudblood by the looks of it." She thought irritably and then slipped a few more beans in before the boats reached their destination. They all scrambled out of the boats, except Ashley and a few others, following a large man up to a door where he banged his meaty fist on the door. Only seconds later it was opened by a very stern looking woman.
The woman led them up many stairs until they had reached presumely what was the main floor. The stern woman introduced herself as Professor McGonagall and explained the rules of Hogwarts and left. Ashley yawned. What was taking so long? It seemed to take hours before McGonagall came back and led them to the Great Hall, and during that time, she had spotted Donelly. Many of the students gasped around her as they looked up. She only had to glance up before saying that it was enchanted. Only half-listening and conciously, she followed behind the group and listened boredly while the Sorting Hat began to sing about something about House unity. Ashley lost track after that, for she began to stare at where the Slytherins were seated and longed to join them.
It wasn't as long as she had expected it to be before her name was called.
"Wicker, Ashley!"
She blinked in surprise. And with shaking knees began to walk foreward. Thank Merlin these robes were covering her shaking knees so no one could see them, Ashley didn't think she'd be able to live with the whole school seeing them. She cautiously walked up to the stool and sat down. Everything went black when the hat was dropped on her head. Before the Hat began to speak, she slipped her hand in her pocket and clutched her new hawthorn and dragon heartstring wand for comfort. "Please, Slytherin." She thought.
{{{Edited to make better.}}}
Wicker, is it? One of my best friends is a wicker chair... perhaps you're related? I suppose you couldn't be, could you? Oh, fine, fine, yes, I'll get to sorting you... Not too hard to figure out, you read as easily as a book. I read a very interesting one recently that was on the headmaster's desk. What was the title of it? Oh dear... What? What house do you belong in? Didn't I tell you? SLYTHERIN, of course!
Anna Geen
Feb 25 2007, 12:30 AM
Anna bit her bottom lip as she walked into the Great Hall. Her jaw dropped at least 2 in.She breathed in and out and in again. She buried her head in her hands until she heard "Geen Anna!" she loooked up to see all eyes on her.She blushed she wasn't the person to want attenion.he walked up to the stool and sat down as the woman put the hat on her head. She closed her eyes and clutched the chair " Please I need to be apart from my family blood. I want to be different." she she to herself.
I think that the cat in you is actually a lion...a lion who will fight to defend her friends and loves a bit of fun. And do you know where lions belong? In GRYFFINDOR of course!
Alexston Scythius
Feb 25 2007, 04:50 AM
The day was finally here. He was at Hogwarts. It had been a great journey, and the boat ride had been fun. He swore he'd seen a tentacle steal his Chocolate Frogs. He'd told some guys, but they said he was just stupid. He'd make a point to ask an older student later on.
Then they were greeted by an old woman. She told them some stuff which he chose to ignore, it sounded really boring, and he was tired. She lead them through to a huge flight of stairs which were bigger than his room in the Leaky Cauldron.
AMAZING He thought as he walked up the stairs to the Great Hall. He had never been to a school before, but this was beyond his wildest imaginations. As soon as the doors opened he had to stifle a gasp. The ceiling was magnificent, with the glittering stars of the sky outside clearly visible through the stone.
As they slowly proceded up to the main table, he slowly got more and more nervous. As he stared around the tables he felt everyone was looking at him. He looked for some of his friends among the other unsorted students, but couldn't see any.
Keep calm, it's just a little ceremony he told himself, but it was far too exciting to keep calm. The faces all staring at him furthered this feeling of anxiousness. The anxiety was killing him. Then the huddle of unsorted students suddenly stopped dead, all huddled in the middle of the room.
The old woman who he assumed to be a professor brought a hat and a stool to the front of the hall, her robes billowing. As she put it down, the room went completely silent. The the hat began to sing. The song was so catchy that he almost danced to it. He was too nervous to listen to the words, but he gathered it was something to do with some people founding some houses. He was too scared to think what any of it meant. Instead he concentrated on the ceiling, which was a beautiful shade of dark blue, with the stars shining brightly.
The professor then explained that students were to come up, sit on the stool, and put the hat on. Then they would be sorted.
Thats it?!? He thought Not even a chance to ask them anything? So basically, I'm chosen for one against my will. Greaaaaat! This will really work out so well The sheer nervousness was making him slightly cranky.
The Professor started calling out names and the pupils approached the hat, put it on. After some time the hat called out the house they were in. The fact that it was so simple, and definitive made him even more anxious.
Eventually, as he knew it had too, She said ' SCYTHIUS ALEXSTON. He jumped at his name, and basically ran to the hat, he thought he heard murmurs of laughter in the background. He sat down on the stool at put the hat on, the nervousness now completely overwhelming.
He had one last thought before the atmosphere broke down all logical thought Wherever it is, I hope my friends are there too.
I'm afraid I can't promise you'll get into the same houses as your friends, but that doesn't mean you won't see them! You'll have classes together, and meals, and free time... Hush! I know you want to ask me a thousand things but you don't have to bother, I can see them all. Friends are obviously important to you. I know a place that you'll make a whole cete of friends. Oh, didn't you know a cete is a group of badgers? You belong in HUFFLEPUFF, my boy!
Olivia Mylee
Feb 25 2007, 06:19 AM
Olivia got out of the train excitedly after it had finally reached it's destination, Hogsmeade Station. She looked around, confusingly until she recognised some other first years and followed them to a group of boats. The boat ride to the castle was extremly peaceful and, when they finally got in eye shot of Hogwarts, Olivia stared in Awe. The Castle was beautiful, and it was hard for her to believe that she would actually be living there for the next year.
When the boats reached the castle entrance, Olivia carefully stepped out and followed the rest of the first years into the Great Hall. she tried not to look at any of the older students as they walked to the front where the stool and Sorting Hat was placed. She knew that seeing them starring at her would just make her even more nervous then she already was, and she'd much rather that not happen. Once they got to the front of the Hall, she watited patiently as a lady began calling students to be Sorted. Olivia watched curiously as, on by one, students began to walk up to the stool and get the Sorting Hat placed upon their heads. Then, after what seemed like quite a long time, Olivia heard her name called at last. "Mylee, Olivia" the lady called, and Olivia turned red as she walked slowly up to wear the Sorting Hat lay. She tried despratly not to look at anyone as she passed, and tried to block out anything that they might be saying about her.
When Olivia got to the stool she climbed onto it and the lady placed the Sorting Hat upon her head. She then waited nervously to see what place it had chosen for her.
Why is it everyone is so nervous when they meet me? I'm really a nice hat. I listen to you, I really do. I'm only here to help you. Ah, very smart... very loyal... very helpful... why, aren't you a sweet little thing? Do you know what we do with sweet things here at Hogwarts. We eat them! Haha! No, no, stop shaking, dear. I'm only kidding. We send the to HUFFLEPUFF!
Ranga Tress
Feb 25 2007, 12:19 PM
Ranga stepped cautiously off the boat and began to follow the other children, a mixture of scared, apprehensive, and defiantly confident boys and girls. They were being led by an old professor who had introduced herself as Professor McGonagall as they disembarked. Now they were begin led through many staircases and passages gradually carrying them higher into the building, and some of the other children who had remained in groups were beginning to mutter. What awaited them in the Great Hall?
Eventually they came to a stop in front of a large wooden door, when the aged professor turned around and stared imperiously at the would-be students, who immediately went silent. She gave a brief speech on Hogwarts, and then told them what they could expect once the doors opened. A few students opened their eyes wide in shock and the groups began to mutter again. Even though his mother had told him they would be sorted into houses based on personality, Ranga could never have imagined that they would be sorted by an enchanted hat!
The doors were opened and the professor marched the children through the center of four long tables, surrounded by older students inspecting the new. Ranga kept his eyes focused ahead, at a fifth table, at which no doubt sat the other professors. The grounds keeper who had led them accross the lake, Hagrid, was sat there, as was a number of other professors wearing varying expressions, some passive, others intent, and some unsettling too. In front of the table was a stool, and on top of that sat an old, patched wizard's hat. The Sorting Hat.
The students were lined up facing the hat, and Professor McGonagall called the name of a student, and a nervous looking boy went up to put the hat on. There was a few moments of silence, and then a mouth-like crease appeared as the hat bellowed accross the Hall "RAVENCLAW!". Ranga knew that he'd be one of the last to be called because of his surname, and so waited patiently whilst one by one the other students were called up. Ranga suppresed the tiny bit of anxiety inside of him and ran his hand through his hair, determined to remain calm and focused.
Eventually, as a girl was sent to Hufflepuff, Ranga's name was called out by the professor, and he walked calmly up to the stool, although inside butterflies were wreaking havoc in his stomach. He sat down and placed the old hat on his head, ready for anything the hat would throw at him.
[OOC-Am I allowed to 'godmode' non-existant characters like the nervous students and muttering groups?]
This will be quick, I promise. Unless.. you'd rather I prolong the process. I'm quite good at babbling uncontrollably till the wee hours of the morning. Oh well, I guess I'll get this over with. You have a few houses that I could stick you in. You've got courage, determination, and the will power to succeed at whatever you do.. however, it's that busy bee of a mind you have there that makes me want to put you into.... RAVENCLAW!
Adel Noć
Feb 25 2007, 02:28 PM
Adel’s stomach did a complete flop as he looked at all of the people around him. Names were going down left and right, thru ‘K’, and then thru ‘M’ and going thru ‘N’ and he felt sick.
He had felt so fine earlier. So confident. He knew that he was destined for greatness, but now he was unsure. What if his parents didn’t approve of the house he got sorted into, because it was too sham?
He was a warrior at heart; what if he got a dinky house that supported great rubbish? He wouldn’t stand for it. He’d rather be expelled and be sent to a more proper wizarding school than to stand being forced to put up with wishwash.
He shifted his weight from one leg to the other anxiously. He was coming up soon. His fate would be decided in just a few minutes, by a hat, of all things.
“Noc, Adel.”
“It’s Noć,” He said breathlessly. He really didn’t care about the pronunciation of his last name right now. He didn’t really mind being the centre of attention, it’s just that, it’s so nerve-wracking. His fate was going to be decided – and announced – in front of a whole bunch of witches and wizards that he didn’t even know! What business of theirs was it?
He sighed, swallowed the lump in his throat, and strode proudly toward the hat. Don’t show them fear. Fear is a weakness, and there is no weakness in someone of such high stature.
He sat down carefully, in front of the sea of faces, and held his breathe as the hat sat gently on top of his head. Curses, he’d just spent an hour on the train doing his hair!
Oh, you can't hide it from me, young man, I can see right through you. It's okay to be scared from time to time, especially now while you think the stakes are high. Now, let me focus... ah! I'm a little scared by some of the things I see in there, to be truthful. Aside from the scary stuff, though, you're not an entirely horrible person, you just need the right influences. Your charm and unique way of being social will fit very well in SLYTHERIN.
Annah Berkley
Feb 25 2007, 05:03 PM
Annah stepped off her boat in amazement because of the sight before her, Hogwarts. "This is amazing," Annah said to herself quietly.
Herself and the rest of the kids that were in her year all walked into the school and into a hall with even more kids than there already were. They all gathered up and formed a line in the center of all the tables.
One name after another was being called, and the moment she has been waiting for finally occured.
"Berkley, Annah."
Annah walked up to the hat with a smile upon her face and put it on, and sat down on the stool.
You're playful and protective, hard-working and loyal. Your family is most important to you. Ever the optimist, you spread joy wherever you go. You will feel right at home in HUFFLEPUFF!
Musa Saphire
Feb 25 2007, 05:15 PM
Musa had finally stepped out of the train, it had seemed like ages ago that she thought there was no such thing as magic. Nevertherless she was accepted to Hogwarts, her mother then had confessed that she was a witch. For some reason Muzzy was not at all surprised she had never really fit in with all the muggle kids. As Musa stepped out a huge guy led them to some boats, to her they looked like gondola's. It was night and the lake seemed eerie and awfully black. It creeped her out. She stepped inside of it and it jiggled a bit, she quickly sat down before it tipped because of her. There was a lantern that was set on the gondola type boat, wich guided way to a castle. It was breathtaking. She couldnt believe she hadnt noticed it before.
After a couple of minutes of pointless chit-chat the boats arrived and every one filed out of the boats as fast as they could. Musa could tell they wanted to get sorted, but before that they had to stay and wait at the top of some stairs. Where a witch appeared and introduced herself as one of the proffesors. She stated some rules and then walked them into the Great Hall. The doors openend, and the first thing she noted was the ceiling. It was dark and illuminated by candles that floated, it was pretty awsome. Musa looked down and saw that four tables were laid out, each contained different houses.
Before she could see anything else they were ushured into a line, there the proffesor read names. By her side sat a stool holding a manky old hat. Musa smiled as she heard that the hat would chose what house you would be put into. She thought it absurd, then it began singing a song. ' Okay so everything is possible in the Wizarding World..'She thought to herself.
The proffesor sat there reading of names and setting the hat on top of their heads. It then shouted which house they got into. The table that belonged into that house would stand up and cheer for their new ickle. Soon without knowing so, they were into the 'S'. Muzzy began to figet with her fingers. Then she heard it "Saphire, Musa". With no problem at all she walked up the stairs and sat down. Musa had no problem with people staring at her, she kind of liked it. She smiled as the hat was placed on top of her head...
You're fierce and wild! But your heart is in the right place, and you don't have a problem following it. Any meanness in you is directed in a useful way, and while you may get into some tussles, I'm sure you'll do well in GRYFFINDOR!
Cassidy Kinsella
Feb 25 2007, 06:15 PM
Cassidy stepped off the train, this was the moment, she'd been waiting for since she was a little girl. That may sound cheesy, but she really did. It was all her father use to tell when she was little, the stories of his time there, and how everyday was thrilling, and an adventure. She stood on the platform, looking down at the boats, she realized they must take them over. She wearily looked at the boats, she wasn't scared, far from it, but she only hoped they were very steady and wouldn't tip over, or break on the way. She really didn't want to drown or get wet, that would be dreadful.
After getting on a boat, with people she didn't know. She watched the lake, and saw ripples for no reason, in her thinking, she realized it had to be the Giant Squid. She secretly wondered, how big it was, and what it looked like. She loved how the moon reflected on the lake, it was a beautiful sight to see. In a sense, it would seem to eerie to others, but Cassidy revelled in the idea, it was eerie, mysterious and she loved that. She dipped in her fingers in the water, letting them trail, until the arrived. She noticed a bit of light, and could see the castle, it was almost breathtaking.
After they all got into the castle, they were told to wait, something Cassidy wasn't good with, but secretly hoped to. She really wanted to get sorted, and she could wait, if thats all it would take. She didn't bother listening to what was being said, she was too lost in thought, thinking of what house she would get into. She finally snapped out of it, when she noticed the other ones, walking. She followed along, marvelling in the ceiling as they passed through a pair of big doors. Her eyes widened at the site of the ceiling, she'd never seen anything quite like that before. She noticed four tables, each representing a house, as they passed by the houses, she noticed her cousin, so they had to be passing the Hufflepuff table, she subtly stuck her tongue out at her, and kept on walking.
They all stood there, waiting for their name to be called. Cassidy listened as others were sorted, here and there. She lost in interest, and soon focused on looking at all the teachers, she knew she probably should have been listening, and even she didn't know that they were getting closer to her name. She felt a nudge, and looked up. "Nevin, Cassidy" The voice said again. She sat down on the stool, confidently, and watched as the hat was placed on her head. She looked up to it, with her eyes, and thought to herself, that it looked fairly old and dodgy looking. She wondered if it had even been cleaned before. "I 'ope you don't 'ave lice" She whispered her Irish accent, very pronounced, she swore she felt the hat move.
She held her breath, when she heard it talk.
[Edited: because I saw now the spelling mistakes, and it kind of sucks.]
Breathe! Breathe! I can't have another first year turn blue on me! There, that's better. I can't sort you if I'm worried about your well being, you know! I can see now, though, that you're very independent... not afraid to break the rules, I think? No, no, blue doesn't suit you at all. Red is much more fitting for a GRYFFINDOR!
Noella Earnshaw
Feb 25 2007, 06:43 PM
Noella stumbled off the train, wishing she had made friends, not enemies. She listened for the cries of "First years, this way!", like Tinny had said to. She expected the boat trip, too. Sometimes it was enjoyable to have older cousins. She was careful to stay perfectly centered in the boat, especially since she didn't swim too well. Noella jumped off the boat, glad for the dry land. She was lead into a huge hall, and she gasped. She had looked up, seeing the enchanted ceiling. It was a clear night and she instantly saw several constellations, relics from when her dad had had custody of her.
An old stool was placed up in the front, with an ancient-looking hat on top. It burst into song, telling of the school's history among other things. Noella was too nervous to pay much attention.
Noella spaced out while others' names were being called to get sorted. The day had been really bizarre. She'd been really happy those few seconds after getting up, but before she remembered what day it was.
Not that magic was any antagonist in her life, it was just annoying. Strike that, her mother was the annoying one. Noella had gotten ready in normal clothes, her favorites. She had just wanted to feel normal while she still could. Downstairs, in the kitchen, Noella's mother had burst out in tears, sobbing about how old her baby was.
And, at the station, her mother had started sobbing like clockwork. Just great. Noella got on to the train, feeling slightly sad that she'd be away from her mother for so long. She banished the feeling by thinking of how she might actually be accepted at Hogwarts, not counted out as a freak.
She as snapped out of her daydreams as the E's started getting sorted. Not to long now, she thought. Her stomach did flips at the idea. She fervently hoped she'd be in Ravenclaw. If she ended up having no friends, she could always hang out with her cousin.
"Earnshaw, Noella!"
She stepped forward, hating her height--or lack of it. She looked like a six-year-old, stumbling up to the ancient stool and hat. Noella put the hat on her head, and it fell to her shoulders. She could her the laughs of older students, but she didn't care right now. This was the moment of truth. That hat started to speak.
You love to learn, and there's nothing wrong about that. It's just that your desire to further your own knowledge is so great that others might perceive it as annoying. With an intellectually-oriented mind like yours, that is not surprising. I shall put you with people much like yourself. In this house, you shall find kindred spirits. RAVENCLAW!
Julian Crawford
Feb 25 2007, 07:12 PM
Julian almost sighed in relief as the train came to a halt, quickly grabbing his trunk as he made his way out of it. The crowds of children his age were large, and after much pushing through the surges of people, he finally managed to get a small space. Well, this was it. They were here. He ignored the excited chatter around him and glanced around, his eyes locking onto the castle which he presumed was Hogwarts. Because it was a dark evening, he couldn't exactly see much of it, but the lights inside it looked welcoming. He just wanted to get there already. Glancing around, he noticed not many people were moving. Then, after feeling a small shove in the back, the people started to move along with Julian as someone led them towards it, most probably a teacher. He resisted the urge to send a glare at the person who had shoved him.
Almost stepping on the person in fronts robes, Julian firmly walked onwards, eyes not once leaving the castle ahead as they all grew closer and closer to it. This was his new school and home. It felt strange, now that he was here, it felt like it had gone so fast. Which he found suprising, considering he reckoned the train journey had been pretty slow. He smiled slightly as the excited chatter from earlier slowly vanished as they all walked into the castle, instead replaced by the occasional murmur as everyone looked around. Julian spared a few curious glances here and there, admiring the few portraits he caught sight of. If it had been his choice, he would have already been walking and looking around. But he got the distinct impression that the person in charge of this would not admire him for it. So he kept to himself, hoping that he wasn't standing anywhere near a muggleborn or half-blood.
They were led into a massive hall, and Julian found himself looking up with many others at the magical ceiling, the stars from outside also shown inside, twinkling away at the people below. Well, Julian certainly hadn't seen anything like that before. Not that he'd admit that to anyone. Everyone's gaze seemed to drift downwards again to stare at some hat on a stool, and Julian raised his eyebrows at it, already knowing what it was because of his parent's discussions with him. And, true to their words, the witch ahead began reading names out from a parchment she held in her hands. Julian stood patiently, occasionally locking gazes with a few friends of his. And suddenly, his thoughts were broken.
"Crawford, Julian."
He smiled grimly, and left the crowd, walking forward quickly and sitting on the stool. Did he feel nervous? Quite simply, no. But he knew that if he was placed in any other house than Slytherin, many people including himself were not going to be happy. He just hoped the hat had the sense to see this. Of course, Julian may be able to live with Ravenclaw. But on the other hand, he may not. He would see. But right now, it was time for a decision, and he hoped it would be the right one. He lifted the hat and placed it on his head, giving a curious glance around the hall as he did so.
Bright skies are gonna clear up! Put on a happy faaaace. Oh, I can see that smile coming through, however grim it is. Cheer up, boy! I know where you’re meant to be. Respect is very important to you, whether it’s concerning something like friendship or a heavy subject such as blood. Please remember that respect must be given to others in order to receive it back while you spend your days in the House of Salazar SLYTHERIN!
Ian Loomis
Feb 25 2007, 07:49 PM
Ian was finally at hogwarts he was really exited he could not wait to get sorted him and all of the other students were at the doors to hogwarts this was it he was going to hogwarts his sister had told him a lot about it it was going to be fun they went in and then into the great hall it was really cool it looked like it was raining inside because it was raining outside. There was an older woman at the front with a stool and a ragged old hat 'that must be the sorting hat' thought Ian.
He waited for his name to be called it was going to take awhile to get to the L's so he just watched all of the other students got called up it was getting close to the L's he could hardly wait at all then it came "Loomis,Ian" said the lady in the front he walked up to the stool and hat it looked really ragged he sat down and she placed the hat on his head 'you better put me in the right house' thought Ian he wondered if the hat could hear his thoughts that would be weird he sat waiting to find out what house he was in.
I’d better put you in the right house? Well I will certainly put you in a house; let’s just hope that we can agree it’s the right one! Just let me take a look around in here ... not afraid to break some rules, a bit sneaky I see and you consider yourself manipulative. Well I think it’s clear where you’re headed, see what you can learn from the cunning folk in SLYTHERIN!
Victoria Paisley
Feb 25 2007, 08:06 PM
Victoria Isabella Paisley, the girl her parents expected to be a muggle, was here at Hogwarts. She didn't really want to be here, she was on a good track to beign successful as a muggle, like her father. Oh well, not like she could change it now, here she was, friendless and confused. She had sat alone on the train ride, but eventually she'd meet someone, right? While everyone else looked ready for the sorting hat, Victoria was in no way ready for her life to be planned out like this. Which house she got in determined pretty much her life from this day on. Sure, she didn't care what house she got in, anything but Slytherin maybe, but she thought maybe Ravenclaw? Or even Gryffindor would be good in her mind.
Victoria looked around as everyone else went up, smiles on their faces, every one of them excited to get the ugly old hat on their head. The woman up front was only on the 'E's so it would be a while until she called a 'P' name. She really wanted this whole thing to be over, to find friends, and be okay with her life. Of course, all of that took time, but wasn't there a fast forward button on life? Surely not.
The boat ride was the worst part of this whole trip, in the mind of the youngest Paisley girl. She didn't like the quality of the boats, or of how close she was sitting to people she didn't know, and may even become enemies--or friends--with in the future. Who knew what was to come next for Victoria? She remembered the tearful goodbye to her mother, Hannah. Her mother's voice was echoing in her ear, "Vic, you'll do fine at Hogwarts, I believe in you." Victoria found it very hard to believe her mother. Sure, she knew she'd do well in school, but socially? There wasn't a high chance she'd be very popular. She was a bookworm afterall.
The woman had moved to the 'O's, and near the end of them at that. It wasn't long until the last name of Paisley came up in her speech, and Victoria could feel the butterflies in her stomach. Whether they were good or bad butterflies wasn't determinable.
"Paisley, Victoria!" the woman bellowed. It seemed to echo in her head. This was it, the moment she'd find out which house she was in. She walked up the stairs, and sat on the stool. She was a bit nervous, but she was more concerned about the hat. What would it say about her? Hopefully something nice, but you never know.
Of course I’ll say something nice, for there is lots nice to say about you Miss Paisley! You like to be loud but you’re not one for standing out, unless of course it’s to help out a friend, very admirable! You’re a hard worker too, most impressive! Yes, there’s no doubt that you will make many friends in HUFFLEPUFF!
Marissa Leybourne
Feb 25 2007, 08:27 PM
Noone had told Marissa about those boats. She felt ill. Not sick enought to throw up, thank Merlin, but sick enough to really wish this sorting ceremony would go faster so she could go sit with Raine and the rest of her soon-to-be housemates and dispel the feeling with a decent meal.
She watched without emotion as people were called one by one to sit under the hat. Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Hufflepuff, Slytherin, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw... The hat called out each house name and the people sitting at the tables cheered as the people being sorted moved down to join their ranks.
"Marissa Leybourne," a female voice said.
Finally, it was her turn. Marissa practically skipped up to the stool to have the hat placed upon her head. She already knew where she'd end up. Everyone in her family had been in Slytherin. Why should she be any different?
Popularity is a poor way to measure a person...fortunately for you I have other ways to measure you. Your family history, need for self preservation, and your willingness to strive for whatever it is you want measure up to a full gallon of SLYTHERIN!
Lily Montez
Feb 25 2007, 08:55 PM
Lily bit her lip nervously, clutching at her best friend, Jordans' arm. She had been excited for this all year, but now that she was here Lily felt like she was going to throw up. Lily watched as all of her friends were called up and sorted into different houses.
As the list moved on and on, Lily began getting paler. She had never been this nervous in her life. Lily was just praying she wouldn't make an idiot of herself or get into a house that she didn't want. She brushed her hair out of her eyes, and felt Jordans' grip on her arm tighten. The Ms were getting closer. She wanted to get it over with, but she still didn't want to go up.
Lily stretched up to whisper something to her friend. "I'm so scared! What if I get into Slytherin?" She asked, then bent back down. Lily watched a boy that was just sorted into Hufflepuff running there excitedly. For some reason, that made Lily even more nervous. She couldn't shake off the feeling that this descision was crucial. Well, it kind of was.
What if she as put into the wrong house? Did the hat ever make a mistake before?
Lily sure hoped not. She just wanted to get into Gryffindor. Was that too much to ask?
They reached the Ls. Lily gulped, feeling all the blood drain from her already pale face. She squeezed Jordans' arm, and bit her lip harder than ever. Lily just closed her eyes and tried to block out all noise.
But a sudden nudge from Jordan made her look up.
"Montez, Lillian!" Said the teacher. Yes, Lilys' real name was Lillian. She blushed slightly at the revealing of this. Lily gave her best friend a hug, then slowly walked up to the hat. She sat on the stool, and had the had placed on her head. It completely covered her eyes, and the last thing she saw was Jordans' pale face.
((OOC: Jordan gave me permission to godmod.

))
Lily Montez
Hmm…you seem to be a little anxious, dear. Didn’t you have a delightful train ride here? I always hear about students raving on about how enjoyable those Pumpkin Poostie things are to eat on the way here. Did you not get enough Poosties? Oh, look at me, rambling on about Poosties when I’m supposed to be telling you which House you’re going to. Underneath that thin layer of unease I can detect on you, I sense a cavern of confidence and nobility just waiting to burst out. Will your new GRYFFINDOR roar be enough to coax it all out?
Jordan Taylor
Feb 25 2007, 09:22 PM
Jordan waited in the back of the pack, clutching tightly to her best friend Lily’s hand as she looked for a familiar face in the crowd. Emma was nowhere to be seen, lost in that sea of black and yellow. Not cool, not cool at all.
One by one, students went up to their prespective houses, the crowd of new first getting smaller with each name. As each name got called, Jordan cursed her last name. Taylor, why did it have to be Taylor and not something with the letter A? It would have been much easier with that.
“I know Lily, I’m scared too. But do you really think that you’ll Slytherin? I sure don’t.” She said, giving her friend’s hand a good squeeze. Lily’s name got called and reluctantly Jordan let go of her hand and nudged her forward.
Lily had been sorted a while ago and was sitting at her table. Jordan had lost track of what was going on and didn’t relatize that her name had been called, three times. Getting pushed on the back, she ran up to the sorting hat taking deep breaths as she walked up to the stool.
But oh dear, Jordan, being her, tripped, skinning her knee on the floor. “Ouch,” She yelled, looking at the blood trickling down her knee. The snickering in the background didn’t help the situation, making her her a little more defiant about everything.
Pushing off the floor, Jordan sat down on the stool, pulling the hat on. “Please don’t embarass me more. Please don’t” Jordan whispered to the hat.
((OOC: Godmodding Lily. As said below, permission given.))
Ah! It's so nice to be up so high. Usually you kiddies are so short I hardly feel lifted off the stool at all, but not you! You're also logical, fiesty, and strong. You stand up for yourself and others, but you're not completely angelic either. I think your sense of humor and adventure will serve you well in GRYFFINDOR!
Ziarre Ako
Feb 25 2007, 10:16 PM
(OOC: hrmm...sorry it's so long. I always get carried away with sortings *grins*)
There was silence as a large group of students walked down a long path leading to the doors of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Complete silence.
That is, until Ziarre Iliana Ako broke it. "Are we there yet?" She asked. What a trip there, first of all. She had endured a long, boring trip in a train that was so hot it seemed like an oven cooking at the hottest temperature in the middle of a desert. Then some older brat called her a "mudblood" and ran off instantly before Ziarre could blast his head off with her new wand, even though she had no idea how to use it.
She had also tried some candy called every-flavored beans and ended up scraping her tongue with her fingernail because the first one she popped into her mouth was bogey-flavored. Though that piece of Fizzing Whizbee was excellent...in fact, she enjoyed floating above the cushioned bench in the train and feeling the sensation of popping candies in her mouth.
Anyway. In a nutshell...She wanted so badly to just be at Hogwarts that moment.
But as impatient as she was, she was also nervous for the first time in like...ever. In her letter inviting her to Hogwarts, she perceived that there was to be a test on the first day there. What would they -- and "they" meaning the Headmaster or Headmistress -- do? Take her into an individual room and demand answers to some quiz? Or simply run her out for, perhaps, pranking on one of them? Hey, she didn't know pranks weren't allowed (if they weren't allowed)...especially ones where you put cupcake icing on a chocolate frog's mouth to look like it had rabies and put it on someone's head.
They should point out that kind of stuff.
If it was a written test, what if all the answers were wrong and they expelled her? Her father would probably be outraged...Maybe? Ziarre put her hand up to her slightly tanned cheek, wondering, if she were to be kicked out, how hard her father would slap her for being so insolent.
Of course, that was as far-fetched as the idea of her name being commonly used. He was so very kind.
Usually. But when the invitation arrived, he strained himself not to ring the letter into a wad and throw it into the fireplace. He thought the idea of a magical school was the most ridiculous thing he had ever heard. So did Ziarre, and she threw it away. But in an instant a new letter, same kind, appeared in her hands with the words "You are a witch" scribbled hastily on the bottom.
Being muggleborn, Ziarre had no idea about magic or that Hogwarts had even existed, for that matter. She had always been interested in the supernatural, or magic, or fantasy, but she never thought that there was actually a world that had just that.
When someone called her a mudblood, she didn't know what it meant, but she knew that it wasn't good. That's why she usually got mad when being called that. She didn't know how to cast these so-called spells. She didn't know what would happen come the first day of Hogwarts.
But it wasn't too late to learn.
As they walked in, Ziarre gaped at everything that her eyes laid on. Moving portraits. Ghosts popping in and out through the walls. Creaking knight armor on display. Older students laughing and walking into a large room full of four long, colorful tables.
The woman that lead them into a room ordered for them to sit down and be quiet. Ziarre's eyes never stopped bugging at the sight of the room. This was a palace compared to her old trailer back home. The. Room. Was. HUGE. Bigger than probably TWENTY of her houses put together. Enchanted ceiling. Long lines of tables decked with different colors.
And a torn, patched, and slightly dusty hat sat atop a small stool, towering above all of the frightened first years.
So...a pointed hat had some part in this test! Ziarre now knew that all witches and wizards didn't wear pointy hats and cackle as they flew on brooms into the sky. But after seeing this hat on there, maybe, just maybe.......Nah.
Suddenly, to Ziarre's shock, the sewn brim of a patch on the hat ripped open and it began to sing a song. A song about how Hogwarts formed, about the four houses, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin.
The hat. Was singing.
Okay, Ziarre thought, well at least it's not a talking shoe like the people on the train said.
But still...it was freaky to see an inanimate object singing. Why don't they add a slapping --what was it called?-- bludger or a chocolate toad while they're at it?
After the song, everyone applauded, especially Ziarre. After listening to the words of the song as well as her ickle short-attention-spanned mind could handle, now she knew what they were being tested for! She just had to figure out HOW they tested. She already knew it had something to do with that hat.
"We well begin the Sorting. Please come up here when your name is called." The gangly woman that had once lead them all inside said.
A name was called and a girl sat under the hat. Ta-da, the hat yelled a house and the girl hopped away.
So this was it? A hat talks to you and you're free to go?
Some test! She smirked. But suddenly her smile faded.
She guessed what was coming next, right?
...Right.
"Ako, Zee-arr-ay," The woman said.
Umm...yay? Her name was pronounced wrong.
Ziarre felt herself lifting to her feet, and she muttered, "Ziarre!" A few people giggled, but she didn't say a word. Instead she scanned the crowd. They were all staring at her, wondering what she would get next. Ziarre wondered too…though not the same way the others did. Huffleclaw? Gryffirin? Slytherdor? Ravenpuff? It was untold until it was told, so to speak. Each step was like wearing led shoes, heavy and longer than she expected. She kept trying to convince herself that most likely the houses didn't really matter...that they were just different sections to tell what dorm you'd sleep in... and where you'd take most of your classes with....AND where you would be in for the next 7 years......that was it...
...So why was she so nervous?
Soon enough, she found herself standing at the front of the room, right in front of the portly stool. She glanced at the hat. It was old and extremely dirty, but to Ziarre dirt was not bad -- for her own house was grimy as well -- and to her, the dust gave the hat a historical, antique look. And history was a good thing. WHOA, enough dawdling, Zi...go up to the hat...it doesn't bite. She thought, taking a deep breath, determined to get this over with. She made her best attempt to smile and she stepped forward.
The woman calling out the names gestured to the stool as she picked up the hat again, and Ziarre sat down. The feeling that was reeling through herself was strange, indeed...a mixture of excitement AND nervousness, now.
Within a second of plopping onto the short stool, the hat was placed atop her head, nearly covering her eyes, and a small whisper spoke in her ear.
Psst! Pssssssst! Hello there, little girl. You seem a little muddled... not sure what's going to happen next? Just make yourself comfortable and I'll search your mind a little-- it won't hurt a bit! Ah! Such courage and energy in you. Admirable, very admirable. You'll have plenty of time to learn the actual names of the other houses. For now, just concentrate on remembering that you're in GRYFFINDOR!
Chelsea Marie Blythe
Feb 25 2007, 11:53 PM
Chelsea stood close to Jesse, hating having to stand so close to all these strangers. She was not a cramped quarters type of person, and she detested people, especially unworthy ones, which they all most likely were, touching her. At least she had her twin there with her, and they could deal with this traumatic ordeal together. She felt someone from behind her somewhere push forward, which caused others behind them to start to fall forward slightly, bumping into her. "Hey!" she called out, glaring behind her at the people who may or may not have been the ones to bump into her. "Watch where you're going!"
She rolled her eyes, and turned to her sister. "Can you believe this ridiculous pack of people? Why don't they just open the doors already, and let us in and get on with it already. I am dying of claustrophobia back here!" Finally, the crowd began to move, and as she entered the Great Hall, she noticed Professor McGonagall in front, leading the first years to the very front of the room, to where an old black hat sat on a stool. She could feel the eyes of the older students upon her, and every other first year. She looked around, and found the table draped in green, the symbol of the snake on their banner. She nudged Jesse, sure that Slytherin was the house that they were destined for. It seemed that it was a proud tradition in her family to be a member of Slytherin, all except their mother, Lillian, who had been a member of Ravenclaw. Chelsea shook her head slightly thinking of it. Her mother seemed so weak compared to the rest of their family. No wonder the hat hadn't placed her in Slytherin.
"Jesse, just wait until we get sorted, and can go up to the common room, and meet all the other Slytherins. This might make this place more bearable after all." She watched as student after student was called, placing the hat on their heads, and listening to the droning voice of the hat sort out it's thoughts, and call out the name of a house for each student. She was starting to get nervous, which was something she almost never felt, but it was so important to her to be placed into Slytherin. It just HAD to happen.
"Blythe, Jesse," the hat called out. Chelsea watched as her twin walked up to the hat, and went through the process. She now stood alone, wringing her hands in nervous anticipation. She was so distracted in her thoughts, she didn't even notice her sister walk away to join her new house, and as her name was called, "Blythe, Chelsea!" she looked up startedly, and looked around for her twin. Not seeing where she had been sorted too, she slowly walked to the stool, even more nervous now. "We have to BOTH make Slytherin," she thought inwardly, as she took a seat on the stool, and Professor McGonagall placed the hat on her head.
Don't you tell me what to do, little girl! I know how to do my job, I don't need any rude little girls telling me where to sort them! Now hush up and let me do it! Money, power, popularity... You'd better not think you're controlling me little miss Blythe. Just because you demand things of me doesn't mean you're right... but the fact is that you are this time. You aren't getting your way. You just ARE your way. SLYTHERIN!
Emabella Sinclair
Feb 26 2007, 12:57 AM
Emabella took a deep breath and swallowed the bile that had been building up in her throat. The day had been passing much too slow for her, as she just wanted to get the day over with. The tension was high in the great hall as the first students were individually called up to try the hat. Emabella gazed at the ceiling to distract her thoughts from the impending doom that lay ahead. She was torn in two pieces, half of her, along with her parents and extended pureblood family, wanted her to go into Slytherin. The olther half knew that she would make the best of friends in Gryffindor, like her mentor, Tinsley Morella. She looked to the Slytherin table and saw the cluster of Windwhispers all sitting together. Emabella proptly shuttered at the throught of having friends who dispised people just because of their blood. It was utter stupidity.
"Sinclair, Emabella"
Emabella heard the whispers that followed her sorting. Yes, she was indeed a Sinclair, daughter of a long line of wealthy, muggle-hating witches and wizards. Her own father was currently a death eater. But Emabella was different. She stood up for those who did no wrong, and was looked down upon by her family for doing so. Now, she had a chance to prove herself to her family or go with what she truly wanted. "You only get one chance at life," She told herself.
As she shoved the battered hat upon her head, she thought of the number of people who have had this very hat placed upon their heads as well. Great leaders of the magical world, evil dictators (such as Voldemort himself), and most important of all, famous quiddich players! She concentraited on projecting her thoughts out of her head and into the hat. Gryffindor! Gryffindor! Gryffindor!
My, my, such ambitious images I can see within that pretty little head of yours! I almost want to just kick back with a bowl of popcorn and see what will develop further in your imagination, but alas! I am a hat and cannot eat popcorn. Besides that, I have a very important job to do. Where to put you, where to put you, where shall your destiny be…oh, fine, I suppose I’ll give in. GRYFFINDOR!
Kai Suzuki
Feb 26 2007, 02:28 AM
(I have permission to rp Ray)
Getting off the train, Kai took a big breath of fresh night air. It was good to get off the train after all the bloody stuff he went through on the train. He shook his head and pulled the school robes tighter in around his body. Good lord it felt good to stand up and actually walk around. He almost nearly smiled but held it in. He never, ever smiled..so why start now? He shook his head and followed the other first year students up to the giant named Hagrid who led them all to a bunch of little boats. Ray was near him.
"Woah, I don't think I've ever seen anyone that tall," Ray said in awe. "I feel really really short now Kai," he added looking over at him. Kai closed his eyes and breathed out a breath. Ray gave him a grin and gave him thumbs up and soon frowned. "Do you think we'll be sorted into the same house like we always said we would?" he asked. He sighed and shook his head. He wasn't totally sure what house he would get himself. He couldn't picture himself in any house. Both he and Ray had agreed to try and get into Gryffindor before their mother died, before he changed and became heartless, or what he would assume was heartless.
"I don't even think I'll be sorted," Kai replied softly as he stuffed his hands in his cloak. "I'm way to different then other people," he added truthfully. Ray left it at that as they both headed to the boats. Once they were in two other students joined them. They were all ooing and awing over the spectacular sight. Kai had to admit, it was breathtaking. He looked down at his gloves and sighed. Would he really get sorted into the right house for him? How hoped so.
A few minutes later, they were out of the boats and on their way up into the castle. Once inside an older witch, who was likely to be a professor welcomed them to Hogwarts and said they would be sorted in a few moments. Ray's cheeks were flushed with excitement and nervousness. He on the other hand just felt totally calm. It was actually a wierd feeling for him. Finally after those few moments they entered the Great Hall. It seemed to take forever until they got around to the last names that started with an S.
"Suzuki, Kai."
Kai gazed up at the stool and the professor who'd said his name. Slowly he moved through several students until he got to the stool and sat down. 'Well here goes nothing he thought.' He closed his eyes as the hat dropped on his head.
Have you enjoyed your journey so far? You’re a quiet one, so I just thought I’d ask. I can see that you are very protective of the ones you care about, and you have a determination to overcome your adversities. Your resourcefulness will get you far in SLYTHERIN!
Nathan King
Feb 26 2007, 02:43 AM
Nathan King was pushed off of the last step of the Hogwarts Express, stumbling and landing hard on the sidewalk. His foot slammed into a puddle, sending muddy water up his leg. He bit his lip and tried to ignore it. It doesn't matter, he told himself with not a lot of conviction. It's just some water. But on such a tense day, Sorting day, any little annoyance was a sign for Nate to explode.
He was jostled along with a crowd of first years, some who he recognized, to a person shouting for them to come to him. When they all gathered around, he led them to a lake with a few tiny boats bobbing in the water. Boats? he thought, confused. Why not a simple, stable bridge? Once again, he was pushed forward and he climbed into one with a few unfamilar faces. Soon, they were gliding across the glassy surface.
Nate shivered in the cold, wishing his robes were a little bit thicker. As they went farther, they got their first view of Hogwarts. Despite his foul mood, Nate couldn't help but hold his breath in awe. It was big, much bigger than he'd imagined it. The lights in the windows glittered high above their heads.
Soon, the new students reached the front door and entered the massive Entrance Hall. It was warm, and they could hear the cheerful voices of the older students in the Great Hall. Nate desperately wished he was among them, with not a care except his hunger. But he was stcuk here, and his legs were starting to feel like chocolate pudding.
An old woman came and explained about the houses. Nate didn't pay much attention. His dad had already explained all of them, with Slytherin being the most detailed. He was convinced his son would be there. And then came the whole pure-blood issue again, but Nate didn't have enough concentration to focus on it. He was more concerned with just not fainting. And it was turning out to be a challenge.
Soon, they marched into the hall. The older students watched them closely, a few laughing at their pale faces. The boy in front of him had turned green. And then, the Sorting began.
Oh, crap. Why was King so early in the alphabet? This was bad, very bad. The As, Bs, Cs, they all flew by. Everyone was watching him. He didn't want everyone watching him. He wanted everyone to run to Austrailia, perhaps, and come back when the Hat had made his choice.
And then: "King, Nathan!" Any other day, he would have smiled at this, or given a small laugh. But not today. Today, being King Nathan was the worst thing in the world. Suddenly feeling as if he had very bad asthma, he tottered to the stool.
What would his dad say if he wasn't in Slytherin? he wondered as the hat was placed on his head. And, what would he say when Nate finally admitted he didn't care much for Slytherin at all? But now, what house didn't matter. All that mattered was getting through. It was do or die time. And, with a lurch of his heart, the hat talked to him, and there was no turning back.
There, there dear boy, no need to fret. I'm confident that you'll be fine no matter where you end up. You're a fair-minded boy that would make Helga proud, but you've also a strong independent spirit that calls for glory and honour. You'll find it in GRYFFINDOR!
Arielle Winters
Feb 26 2007, 03:08 AM
Arielle, her twin sister Arwen, and their parents arrive at Kings Cross to catch the Hogwarts Express. After the shopping trip in Diagon Alley to buy school supplies and books, both girls were wondering what school would be like. Their parents, relatives, and siblings had all gone to Hogwarts, and Arielle and Arwen were both glad that their pureblood family were not Muggle haters. Both girls were excited and nervous. As they boarded the train, their mum began to cry. Both girls hugged their mum, and then dad appeared and said, "We'll see you at the end of term." He gave them both a big hug, and then he and mum stood on the platform and waved goodbye. Arielle and Arwen waved until they could no longer see their parents. Both girls sat down, and watched the scenery flash by. As night began to fall, both girls put on their robes. As the train pulled into Hogsmeade Station, steam hissing and boiling around the engine, Arielle looked out into the nights gloom hoping to catch a glimpse of.....................what? It was to dark to see anything. As she and her sister trundled off the train, they hear a voice calling, "First years over here please." All the first years walk over to the voice, and see a man, a huge man, standing by a small fleet of boats bobbing on the water. "Four to a boat," the man says, "Come on, hurry up, we haven't got all night!" Arielle and Arwen quickly hop into a boat, and are joined by two others neither girl recognizes. Arielle and Arwen are cold, and are wondering how long this trip is going to last. The little fleet of boats start sailing away, and before long oohs and aahs, as a huge castle comes into sight. The boats land, and everyone starts walking up a path to the castle. Huge wooden doors are suddenly flung open, and an older, tall, and very stern looking witch stands before the crowd of first years. "Welcome to Hogwarts," she says, "Please follow me." The witch leads everyone up a flight of stairs and into a small room, some of the Muggle borns, their eyes popping out, are watching ghosts glide about, and muttering in surprise about portraits that move and talk. "Wait here," the witch says, "someone will fetch you shortly." Arielle turns toward her sister and whispers, " I wish mum and dad were here." Arwen nods in agreement, and whispers, "Me too, I'm really nervous."Both girls watch the others milling about, and they wonder if any of these young witches or wizards would be friends. The doors to the room open, and the stern looking witch steps inside. "The sorting ceremony is about to start", she says, but first a few words about Hogwarts. "Hogwarts was formed over a thousand years ago," she says, by four great wizards and witches." The houses you will be sorted into will be your family while you are here." "The houses are Griffyndor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin, and good behavior will be rewarded, any wrongdoing will lose you house points and earn you a detention, or even an expulsion." Arielle looks at her sister and shudders. "Mum and dad would have our heads if we were expelled," she whispers. Arwen nods in agreement, and whispers back, "I know what you mean, I don't fancy getting a Howler from them." "Follow me," the stern witch says, it's time for the sorting. The first years follow, and are led into a huge hall, lined with four tables. Some of the first years look up at the enchanted ceiling in awe. Tapestries and banners were hung everywhere, the banners depicting the symbols of the four houses. "Line up here," the stern witch says, as the students straggle into a semblance of a line. The stern looking witch moves to the front of the line, where an old, torn, and patched hat sits upon a stool. Some of the first years jump in surprise when a rip near the hat's brim opens up and the hat begins to sing about the founding of Hogwarts and about the four houses."When I call out your name," the stern witch says, "sit on the stool, and I will put the hat on your head." The witch pulls a long role of parchment out of her robes and begins reading off names. Too soon, she reads off, "Winters, Arielle." Arielle walks forward, sits upon the stool, and the stern looking witch puts the hat upon on her head. A voice sounds inside the hat..................Arielle keeps thinking to herself and whispering, "Gryffindor or at least Ravenclaw."
You're a very mature little girl who cares intensely about the people around you. Every house would love a student like you, but I know you'll be happiest in...HUFFLEPUFF!
Arwen Winters
Feb 26 2007, 03:36 AM
Arwen is in Diagon Alley with her parents and twin sister shopping for school supplies, and books. at the end of the day they all go to the Leaky Cauldron for the night. The Next day they leave for Kings Cross and Platform 9 and 3/4 and slip through the barrier, and see the Hogwarts Express. Arwen and her sister go onto the train, and finds a compartment and sit. Their parents are waving goodbye to their children. Arwen is looking out of the window watching trees pass by. when the train stops at hogsmeade station, someone is calling out "first years this way please." Arwen is going over to the place where the other first years are gathering. She arrives at the castle and is led into the great hall with the other first years. A witch is standing next to a stool where an old looking hat is on top of. The witch the pulls out a long parchment, and starts calling out the names of the first years. after a while she hears her name being called Winters, Arwen. Arwen walks up to where the stool is and sits down. The witch places the hat on her head and the hat starts talking into her ear.
Honest, loyal, considerate, and kind? This all points to one thing - and I'm sure you can guess what that is, my dear. I do hope you like yellow and black, because you're off to HUFFLEPUFF!
Reilly Milano
Feb 26 2007, 03:44 AM
It was finally Reilly's time to put on the sorting hat. For years, he had been waiting for this moment; though through out those years, it seemed that over the last few months, he had gotten more impatient and anxious as ever. He wanted to start school. He wanted to know what house he was in, god dangit! With a sigh, he waited in line, cursing at the fact that his name was in the middle of the alphabet. Throughout the sorting, he recognized a few choice names; names of his friends, and he eagerly listened to what house they got into.
He wanted to be a slytherin. Correction, he needed to be a slytherin. He would nearly suffocate if it turned out otherwise, and that would be no fun. Slytherin. If not slytherin, he supposed ravenclaw wouldn't be terrible. At least they were known for being intelligent. Another sigh escaped his lips.
Reilly was not one to be impatient, not in the least. He was more of one to have exceeding amounts of patience; almost too much, if that was possible. Finally, it was his turn. His turn! "Milano, Reilly," The professor called dully and Reilly nearly jumped up in the air, out of both anxiety and happiness. Finally, he would find out his house. Finally, he would find out what he wanted to know for years, but had only truly considered in the past few months.
With a few shaky steps, he collapsed on the stool...and let the hat fall over his eyes, eager for it to make it's decision.
So many young people who pass under my brim have a desire to prove themselves, and I see that in you too. Unlike many others though, you have the determination and independence to see your dreams through, not to mention a thirst for knowledge which so many people seem to underestimate. I know that Rowena would dearly love you in her house, but I’m going to disappoint her this time and sort you into SLYTHERIN!
Leonardo Grysan
Feb 26 2007, 03:50 AM
Stay calm, Leo, everything will be alright. Usually, Leo was the king of calm. He was able to stay calm 90% of the time.
However, the other ten percent held in store for him situations like this. The sorting. The decision. It seemed like an execution. Leo was nearly sure he wouldn't get into gryffindor, no, he was too cowardly for that. However, he was sure he wasn't going to get into Ravenclaw either. He may be fairly intelligent, but he certainly was no bookworm. More of the type who learned what he had to, and nothing more.
Then again, he could get into hufflepuff. He sneered slightly, despite the thought being truthful. Like a hufflepuff, he had a strong sense of loyalty, and a strong sense of justice. However, he hoped his ambition and sense of vengeance outdid those traits.
He wanted to be a snake. A slytherin. Green and silver, all the way. He licked his lips longingly, praying to get into said house. Would Alisha hate him if he didn't get into it? Hopefully not, he thought that would kill him. With a nervous sigh, and another pick of his nail, he heard his name called.
It was time. He stepped up, nearly shaking in his boots, and still attempting to stay calm. That attempt, however, didn't work.
No need to fret there boy, all will be ok. I’m just going to take a look around in your head and see where you fit best! You’re right; Gryffindor is not for you, how about Ravenclaw? You don’t think so? You’ve certainly got the smarts, and the ambition to achieve goals. No? I guess that vengeful streak would help you fit in with another group of ambitious sorts … yes, SLYTHERIN is perfect for you!
Eva Grants
Feb 26 2007, 04:30 AM
Eva sighed as her eyes scanned the scenary outside the window, zipping by at incredible speeds. It felt as if she had been on the train for days, her legs having gone numb to the point where she could barely stand up. Her belly was filled with almost every sort of candy they had to offer from the trolley, every book she had brought along had been read- they weren't that long- and her patience was wearing thin. When would this thing stop?
As if reading her mind, the train suddenly lurched to a stop and Eva perked up, glancing around at the others in her compartment. They seemed just as alert as her now. She was about to ask why the train had stopped, but then the obvious hit her: they had arrived.
A cold sweat ran down her neck; this was it, what they had been waiting for. Already, her body was trembling. What was going to happen next? What was the sorting ceremony going to be like? What if she somehow ended up in Slytherin? An involuntary shiver rolled down her spine at the idea. The others in the compartment began depart, and, not wanting to be left behind, she hurried after them, albeit with some difficulty; her legs were still stiff.
They emerged upon a platform, shrouded in the darkness of the night with nothing but the moon overhead and someone holding a lantern to guide them. The person was calling for all first years, so Eva immediately gathered around the lantern with the other students. While the older students were led someone else, the first years were left to board a bunch of small boats, much to her displeasure. She and boats did not get along so well. She almost shrieked when the boat rocked precariously in the water when she stepped into it, steadied by the hand of a student she hadn't seen before. She thanked the student under her breath, who smiled and nodded in return. The whole journey across the lake, Eva made sure to keep her eyes glued to the floor of the boat; she didn't need to freak and fall out. Much like the train ride, it seemed like ages before they made it to dry land again; she was even more thankful than before.
Eva was in awe the whole walk up to the grand castle that stood before her; she had never seen such a place before, not even in books. With its stone towers and flickering candles in the windows, she was sure that she had just walked into a fairy tale, or that she was dreaming and would wake up soon. By the time they had been led through the winding corridors and had come to the grand doors, Eva had decided on two things: she wasn't dreaming, and she was definately going to get lost in this place. It was inevitable, knowing her poor sense of direction.
Then, an elderly woman began speaking to them about the ceremony, and a sudden panic washed over Eva's body. The trembling began again, and she struggled to stay rooted to her spot. She didn't know why she was nervous, but she was afraid that the few friends she had made would be sorted to other houses and she'd be alone. She was barely aware that the woman had finished talking and had begun leading them into the Great Hall, where older students watched them progress into the room with curious and expectant eyes. It took a nudge from one of her friends to get her moving.
Eva made sure to keep her eyes averted from the other students as she lined up with the others before the head table. She could still feel the eyes of the students boring into her back, serving to increase her nervousness. She couldn't even admire the scenary, so was so nervous of what was about to happen. Maybe if she turned and ran now, she could catch the train and forget about this whole magic thing.
A student was called, followed by another, and it came to her realization that they were being called in alphabetical order. A sick feeling settled in her stomach; why did her name have to be Grants?
As the students were called up and sorted, Eva tugged restlessly at her clothing and constantly shuffled her feet anxiously. The G's were being called already, and she feared when her name would be called.
"Grants, Eva."
Eva made an inaudible squeak as her body tensed, eyes wide. Her heart hammered against her ribcage, and she wondered that if she simply didn't go, she'd be skipped over. Again, they called her name, and someone nudged her from behind. The woman must have noticed, for she motioned for her to come. Heart fluttering, Eva stepped cautiously up towards her and sat down upon the stool. She shut her eyes tightly when she felt the hat being set down upon her head, resisting the urge to push it upwards when it nearly fell over her eyes.
There there, no need to be frightened. Let's me just have a look, it won't hurt. Open minded, loyal, and free spirited - I don't see too many like you pass under my brim! Feisty and smart, a thoughtful little girl like you will make a great addition to HUFFLEPUFF!
Darius Agrippa
Feb 26 2007, 04:37 AM
Darius parted company with his cousin and followed the procession of new students off the Hogsmeade Platform and down a winding path to the docks. Gerald was not forthcoming about this initial entry into the school, he didn't want to spoil the experience. There was an incredible amount of chatter, despite the fact that the school guide said to keep it down, Darius hadn't had time to get to know anyone since he arrived straight from Loch Morgan on day one. Silently he stepped into one of the boats and looked about for the oars, did they expect them to have the ability to move it? Damn that Gerald!
Once the lead boat cast off, the other boats soon followed and Darius was thankful that his cousin did not mention anything, the view was one of the coolest he'd seen in a while. The caste looked huge and must have had a gazillion lights around it. Well, maybe half a gazillion. They boats eased into the docks and the procession followed the guide along in chattering form until they arrived in the castle itself. The place WAS huge, the stairs to the Great Hall seemed larger than life and Darius found himself staring all over the place. He would have to beg Gerald for a tour sometime, well if he wasn't too busy.
A professor met the students just outside the Great Hall and instructed them on what to happen next. The moment of truth. Darius wondered if he'd be sorted into Slytherin with Gerald, he wouldn't mind that, but Gerald said it was better if he was in another House. Darius agreed, but then again, according to the way the professor explained things, it wasn't up to him or Gerald. The chatter died down but soon picked up as the professor disappeared through the doors, everyone was excited. When the professor returned, every mouth was shut and the lot of them silently followed their guide into the hall.
Darius looked about the hall, plenty of older students eyed them as if sizing up servants, Darius looked over at the Slytherin Table and saw a thumbs up sign from Gerald, that made Darius feel a bit more at ease. The parade of new students gathered before a panel of stern looking old folks and another professor began calling names. After each name, a new student walked up to a stool and a hat was placed on their heads, Darius scoffed, a bit dramatic eh?. Darius' attention was taken with the decorations adorning the hall and when his name was called it had to be said twice....
Darius Agrippa.....Darius Agrippa!
Eep! Not a good start, Slytherin was out for sure. He climbed up to the stool and plopped onto it, "Let's not stand on ceremony then, get me Sorted."
Just hold on a minute or you might find yourself stuck in a house that is not to your liking at all! My job is rather important and I won’t have you rushing it. I can see that your very kind and loyal, which makes me think you’ll do well in Helga’s house, but as it is there’s always more to look at. You’ve got a desire to get places, and you use your cunning to achieve that. Indeed you may not think so, but your observations and self-preservation are what Salazar likes best about you. Yes it’s clear that SLYTHERIN is best for you!
Tiereny Sullivan
Feb 26 2007, 04:48 AM
The doors of the Great Hall opened to Tiereny Sullivan, beckoning her inside. The enchanted ceiling's stars winked merrily above, seemingly oblivious to the torment inside the large gaggle of first years being led to their doom. Normally composed and cool Tiereny felt like her insides had melted, leaving her with nothing but a large mass of goo.
It wasn't easy for her to give things to fate, to know that her life was no longer in control. Well, she wasn't exactly giving her life to fate. She was giving it to a talking hat. Either way, it wasn't a comforting thought. Now, being paraded between the long benches of the Great Hall, toward a battered hat on a stool, she wasn't feeling much better.
Tiereny didn't pretend not to be unnerved by the gossiping faces. At least she wasn't alone. There must have been at least another 50 first years, or so it seemed. Unluckily for her, Sullivan was at the end of the alphabet. Thus, Tiereny stood patiently waiting, forcing herself not to show signs of fear. In fact, other than her constantly moving eyes and pounding heart, the girl showed no sign of fear nor doubt.
She had no idea what house she would be in, but to Tiereny, it didn't really matter. In the end, the last day of the seventh year, all the students will have learned the same thing. Besides, she didn't need a hat telling her who she was - did she?
"Sullivan, Tiereny"
She took a step. Then another, then another. Willing her feet and legs to move toward the hat. Turning to face the great hall, Tiereny sat on the stool and waited for Professor McGonagall to set the hat down on her head. She awaited fate.
I've often heard that it is unwise to keep one's emotions all bottled inside. You're in luck there; you're a confident girl with nothing to hide. Ah, but what would I know of that - I'm only just the sorting hat! But there is one thing that I do well, but what that is I need not tell. But there thing that I owe you. It's why you're sitting on this stool! Courageous, smart, and yet what's more - I'm sending you to GRYFFINDOR!
Xavier Landon
Feb 26 2007, 05:27 AM
Xavier exited the train and followed the direction he was pointed in. To his dismay he was seperated from his friends during the hussle and bussle of the students. He looked at the boats and smiled. Things were finally going to start for his wizarding life. He was excited. Carefully Xavier stepped into one of the boats along with several other students he did not know. His green eyes scanned all around him and finally came to rest on the monstrosity ahead of all of them . . . Hogwarts. He took a deep breath and tried to relax. He listened to the excited murmurs of his fellow passengers and awaited his departure of the boat.
Xavier filed into the castle being slightly pushed by others but allowing it for now. Now was not the time to make war with anyone. He could end up in the same house of some of these people and did not want to make enemies before he was even sorted. He listene to the woman who had introduced herself as Professor McGonagall, or something like that, he was too nervous to really pay attention one hundred percent. She spoke of what was to come in just a few moments and told us to await our names and listen closely to whomever was speaking. Xavier nodded automatically with everyone else and then without thought made his way into the Great Hall. He was squished between another boy and some girl was was chattering away quietly with a friend. Girls, Xavier rolled his eyes, do they ever stop talking? He turned at the sound of someone talking and waited patienly for the moment of truth . . . The sorting.
Finally, he thought, it is starting. He did not have any real expectations of what was to come. His mother had He finally heard his name called and made his way through the path of students that was made. He confidently made his way up in front of everyone else and took his seat on the stool. The Professor walked over, smiled at him and placed the hat on his head. He took a deep breath as it landed on his brow and awaited his fate. Which house would it be? Only the hat could answer that.
The qualities that you look for in your friends are the kinds of qualities we admire in ourselves. Mr Landon you are fun-loving, loyal, trustworthy and much more! Add in some of that adventurous spirit and courage of yours and you will have a great time in GRYFFINDOR!
Leda Cole
Feb 26 2007, 05:58 AM
A small girl, somewhat plump with baby fat still, was craning her neck around the Great hall. Her robes were neat and tidy and swished a bit as she stretched her legs to keep up with the other first years in line. Her long black hair had clearly been neatly braided this morning. But after a day’s excitement, a few messy strands had worked their way out and were tickling her face. Her face was round with high cheekbones and a small nose. Her brown eyes had an Asian slant to them.
These eyes bulged at everything around her. The size of the Great Hall alone was more than she could take in. But the floating candles, the enchanted ceiling, and the fantastically dressed adults at the head table caught her completely off guard. It was not that she hadn’t heard and read about what she could expect at Hogwarts. But from the moment they reached the clearing at the lakeside and she saw the castle for the first time, she was…spellbound.
She grinned broadly as the first years marched down the aisle between the middle tables, following Professor McGonagall. She had been told what was going to happen next; they were to be Sorted. At that thought, her mood darkened as she realized she'd hardly considered how they chose what House one was suited to join. Should have asked Grandfather, she thought.
Her grin faded. She absentmindedly grabbed her braid with her left hand and began wrapping it around her wrist. She wondered how they could possibly test what sort of person all the first years were and still have time for dinner. How could she have not thought to ask before now? Maybe they had been watching her already. Perhaps she had already passed the test…or failed.
She reflected on her last year living with her aunt and uncle. She pondered how much she had really previewed the textbooks she had purchased months earlier. And she had barely taken the time to skim all the supplemental reading material. She thought she had been learning a lot. But maybe she could have tried harder…
No. No, she wouldn’t doubt herself. She was smart, she was hard working, and she would do fine. Besides, her family loved her. If this test was something that required some sort of preparation, they would have prepared her. She thought back to her aunt and grandmothers parting words to her as she waved at them from the train.
“Just be yourself, Leda,” Aunt Elaria had shouted, “and trust your mind.”
“Nonsense,” her stiff-backed grandmother had said. Leda thought it strange how she could make her haughty voice carry over the din of Platform 9 ¾ with no effort whatsoever. “Use your head, but trust your power. You’re a Cole, it’s in your blood.”
As they bickered back and forth, her grandfather and Uncle Alfred exchanged long-suffering looks before turning to her with smiles. As the train pulled away, she saw her Grandfather Cole wink. She knew what that look meant: don't argue and your own way.
So she would. As she stirred from her memory, she saw Professor McGonagall standing by a worn-out old hat sitting on a stool. As she took in the excited silence, she realized the Sorting was about to begin. She was enthralled by the talking hat’s verse. And soon, as other first years began to approach and have the hat placed upon their heads, she figured out what was happening. A hat does the Sorting? The thought was so silly, that she giggled, unable to worry about it any more.
“Cole, Leda.”
She approached the front of the Hall and turned to sit on the stool, she felt the ragged hat descend over her eyes. As it did so, she wondered which great British witches of the past had sat in this very place, blinded by this very hat as their future at Hogwarts was decided. As the Sorting Hat came to rest half way down her nose, she resolved to be one of them. Wherever this thing put her, she would accomplish great things. Nothing could stand in her way.
Considering she was dealing with a talking hat, she thought it wouldn’t hurt to be polite. Softly, she whispered into the musty fabric of the brim, “Whatever you decide, thank you.” Then she sat straight and attentive, waiting for the magic to happen.
And you’re most welcome, I think. You see people have said that to me before and been disappointed, so please don’t take it personally. I do hope you’ll be happy in your new home, because I just know that your housemates will love you! Your ability to analyse your environment around you and act accordingly to diffuse any situation will see you going places in RAVENCLAW!
Cooper Mathews III
Feb 26 2007, 06:30 AM
The train came to a lurching stop causing Cooper to fall forward from his sleeping position. Now in a semi-awake state of mind with his feet up on the bench he was sleeping on Cooper rubbed his eyes and fought with his glasses and messy hair.
At Hogwarts already? Cooper fumbled around to sit up and rubbed his eyes some. Standing as he watched more soon-to-be Hogwarts students file out into the aisle and out of the compartment doors. As if instinctively Cooper grabbed his notebook and pencil. Cooper started the hurried process of writing down his first morning glimpses.
QUOTE
The other students of my year started to file out into the aisles of the train, I think we arrived at Hogwarts, however it’s a bit too dark for us to be going out alone.
Cooper frowned and followed the kids, his notebook and pencil pushed tightly against his chest. Once off the bus Cooper’s eyes rose in amazement as he saw several small row boats before him and in the distance, against the stark dark sky, he saw a castle.
Hogwarts? With all the bustling students-to-be Cooper was forced into one of the small boats and soon was being rowed across the inky water towards the large castle.
It wasn’t much longer until Cooper’s thoughts were answered; the large castle he saw is Hogwarts. Cooper jotted that down and went through the large double doors he was ushered through.
Now in a congested foyer Cooper waited until they were given instructions on how to file in and wait against one of the walls of the Great Hall. So in they went!
QUOTE
There were lit candles floating in midair, as if suspended there by ropes! There were real ghosts too! And there were hundreds of students! Some my age, but most, if not all, were older. There also was a tattered old hat placed on a tri-legged stool. That must be the sorting hat we were just told about.
After several names being called Cooper cringed when he heard his, “Cooper James Mathews III.” Cooper hurried along and moved his way up to the front of the line, past sneering people and to the tri-legged stool.
Before sitting down Cooper made a quick mental note to himself to write down what it felt to have the Sorting Hat on his hat. Placing his notebook down on the stool Cooper placed his body firmly over it and then braced his mind against some upcoming situation that he wasn’t sure he would be able to handle.
His hands gripped the hat’s brim, it felt worn and comfortable between his hands, but that wasn’t what he needed to do. So with a hesitant look on his face Cooper looked out to the large swarm of students before him and placed the hat on his head.
[OOC: The quotes are from Cooper's writing into his notebook about what he's seeing and what is occurring around him]
Write this down. Take a little note. If you don’t, steal...err... borrow those notes from your housemates. They always seem to be studying something or other. RAVENCLAW!
Sean Roshena
Feb 26 2007, 06:37 AM
Sean follows evryone into the Great Hall there were four long tables Sean presumed they were the houses by the banner above the table Sean was nervous so he played with the sleeve of his Robes. On the stage thing was a stool with an old Hat on it also a lady standing beside it Sean was to busy looking around at the candles floting in mid air"i wander if the wax falls down and hits people"Sean says hoping if so not to get hit by wax since wax burns something snapped him out of his thourts the lady called his name he was to busy thinking he forgot her name.
"Roshena,Sean"
"Huh"Sean says blushing a bit relising his name was called Sean hurrys up to the stool and sits down gripping the side tight since he was nervous as the Hat was placed on his head
No need to be nervous, boy. I know just what to do with a sly prankster like you. Go join your new mates in Slytherin!
Raith Matrel
Feb 26 2007, 06:53 AM
Raith kept his cloak pulled close around him. This effectively cut the slight chill, and also prevented other students from stepping on it. People were everywhere. Students, talking, laughing, yelling, formed a sort of living barrier that endlessly shifted and retarded any large amount of progress. Pushing through the last human wall found him at a group of boats. One of these boats would carry him to Hogwarts. He entered the nearest boat and waited for them to disembark. Peering out into the night with his one uncovered eye he watched the darkness unfold upon the grand and majestic form of a castle. There were several gasps, and other sounds of awe at this wonderful sight, but Raith kept silent. After disembarking from the boat, Raith stepped into the forming line, and waited as the group was led to the grand hall. The various decorations and grandiose hallways went unnoticed as a slight bit of nervousness entered Raith stomach. The great doors were flung open. Raith waited for his name to be called. It seemed to take an eternity before the call of, "Matrel, Raith," came. Striding forward, his traveling cloak billowing behind him, he mounted the steps to the stool and sat down. He threw back his hood and waited for the hat to be placed upon his head. Sitting there, in front of all of Hogwarts, he sat with his should length white hair and the scarred left side of his face exposed. The scaring was an intricate web pattern that started at the left eye and disappeared along the side under his long white hair. The scars, though long since healed over, were a vivid red against the pale of his skin. Raith endured the scrutiny while awaiting his sorting.
A little bit uncomfortable there? Don’t worry, lad, there’s nobody in this room that’s about to jump you or something! In order to fit in, you’re going to have to relax a bit and earn the trust of your RAVENCLAW housemates!
Bryan Tenner
Feb 26 2007, 06:56 AM
It was dark by the time the Hogwarts Express arrived in Hogsmeade. The students, who were now all dressed in their black Hogwarts robes, emerged from the train onto the platform, some looking excited, others wishing that their summer was longer. Bryan, too, was wearing his brand-new robes. He felt good wearing them - he was about to become a real wizard.
As Bryan stepped onto the platform, he felt a sudden rush of nervousness hit him. What was he to do next? Did he simply follow everybody else? He felt totally dwarfed by the older, taller students, and anxiously glanced around for people that looked his own age. The crowd of students began to walk towards a group of horseless carriages, but no nervous first years seemed to be among them. Bryan panicked. Should he follow them?
An enormous figure appeared holding a lamp. Bryan had never seen a man so tall before. Was he a giant? From his mother's description, Bryan had assumed that a giant would be somewhat larger, although this was obviously no ordinary man.
"Firs' years this way," Bryan heard the man call. He felt the nervous feeling fade; at least he now knew where to go. He followed the crowd of first years - some were nervous like himself, others were confident and eager to get to the school.
The man led the first years to a group of small boats.
What an odd entrance to a school! Bryan thought as the huge man directed students into boats; they were so small that only two people would fit in each. There were no paddles or sails in sight - how would they get anywhere? Bryan shook his head and remembered that he was now surrounded by magic - it was almost as if he'd entered another world altogether. Although his own mother was a witch, she was the only witch that Bryan knew and so he'd never been exposed to a great deal of magic before.
The giant led Bryan to a boat. It was much more stable than he expected - small boats normally capsize more easily than larger ones. At least he wouldn't get wet - Bryan hated water. The boat looked worn from use and Bryan wondered how old it was. He began to wonder what form of magic would make these boats sail, but this was answered almost instantly when the boat took off on its own, sailing smoothly towards a huge castle which Bryan assumed was the school itself.
As they got closer, Bryan realised that he'd underestimated the size of the castle. It was enormous! Turrets and towers rose into the sky as if they were near heaven itself. The some of the windows were brightly lit, particularly a section of the castle which looked like a hall of some sort. Bryan wondered if it was this hall that he and the other first years would be going to tonight. He would soon find out.
Entering the castle was breathtaking within itself. The stone walls looked at least a thousand years old. Even the stairs that the group climbed had dents in them from countless students walking up and down them over the years. When they reached a huge wooden door the students were greeted by an old lady wearing a pointed hat. She looked rather like the sort of witch you'd expect to see, which did not surprise Bryan in the slightest. After a short introduction, the doors opened and the first years were greeted by students sitting at four tables. Bryan wondered what house he would be in, and was rather surprised when he realised that they'd in fact be sorted by a hat!
The old lady, who now stood by the hat, called a name from the list she held. Bryan watched as the nervous first year sat on the stool, when the hat called out loudly his house. The student ran to one of the four tables, which cheered, and sat down. Soon it would be his turn.
"Tenner, Bryan!" the hat called out, after numerous other students had already been sorted. This was it. Bryan's moment in the spotlight. He walked nervously forward towards the stool with all eyes upon him. The old lady placed the hat on his head...
Oh Mr. Tenner, I’ve got just the place for you. This lot will welcome you with open wings. That’s right, they have the mascot that flies. Smart boy, already guessed it haven’t you? RAVENCLAW!
Silver Winters
Feb 26 2007, 07:12 AM
Silver stumbled down the train along with her sisters and friends. She heard a gruff voice call over the rest, "First years his way please!" before scrambling along with the others. Miraculously, she had been seperated from her sisters and cousins and amongst the bobbing heads, she spotted her sisters and friends. She felt herself being pulled along with the crowd, squeezing through irritated older students and prefects shouting at everyone to get off the train, their badges gleaming in the light.
Suddenly, the crowd stopped. Silver tip-toed to get a clearer look of what was ahead and grinned at the view infront of her. The castle was magnificent, and the only thing standing between them and the castle, was the lake. Black and eerie, Silver stared at it, scrunching up her brows. She seemed to have seen something briefly flash across the surface. Silver bit her lip and tried to remember what she had read about in her book. Giant squid. The word flashed across her mind.
Without noticing it, Silver found herself on a boat with three other first years and crossing the lake. How she got there, she didn't know. She was sure that she hadn't felt her feet move. The castle was illuminated and stood out from the surrounding darkness. Silver sat, mesmerised by it's grandness.
Soon, the boats reached the castle ground and they were lead into Hogwarts by a witch, who introduced herself as Professor McGonagall. They waited there for a moment. Taking this time to look around for her friends and relatives, Silver spotted her sisters ahead of her. Before she could move forward, Professor came and annouced that they were ready. The group moved forward through the big doors into what seemed to be the dining area. Great hall. The words flashed through her head again. Silver gulped as she saw the amount of people around her. She had no idea the sorting would take place infront of so many people. A sudden feel of nervousness crept up on her that she hadn't felt a omment ago. Trying to calm herself down, Silver tilted her head up and looked at the ceiling. There was no ceiling. It looked as if the night sky was directly above her head. Candles floated all around in mid-air. They came to a halt.
Professor McGonagall had taken her position beside a torn and tattered looking hat, placed upon a stool. A roll of parchment was held steadfast in her hand. "When i call your name, step forward." She called out.
Silver waited until her name was finally called. There weren't many people left and she had grown nervous. "Winters, Silver." Professor called her name. She walked forward steadilly and felt hundreds of eyes on her back. Feeling a particular churning in her stomach, Silver turned around to face the hall and sat on the stool. She felt the hat being put onto her head. It was awfully warm and she closed her eyes in comfort when a voice shot through her head.
You're quite the confident one, aren't you? Your combination of steady calm with your slight disregard for the rules could quite possibly make you an excellent person to have around in times of need. To get you there, you'll need the help of friends in GRYFFINDOR!
Chrys Palm
Feb 26 2007, 07:19 AM
Chrys has been told about this event, but didn't realize how BIG it was to the students. As he was walking, he put his crystal pendent inside his shirt and hoped for the best. He kept on telling himself that it would be fine, and his family would be proud of him no matter what, but that wasn't enough to comfort him.
Comming from a line of seers, he was expected to show his familiy traits, but all he could show was fear. He looked at the others and wondered what houses they would be in. Chrys started to breath hard, and told himself to relax and have fun. This was Hogwarts after all. This was where his familiy acheived greatness and this is where his adventure begins.
The mad rush of students into the Great Hall was enoumous, but he liked see new people. Chrys didn't really have alot of friends, but he loved the company of peole around him. They wanted to talk about many things like their reactions to the letter, how they got their supplies, what classes they were going to take and so much more. Chrys just had fun with the group who called him a friend.
Now was the moment of truth, the sorting hat. Chrys has heard many stories, but never saw it up close. He looked in awe as he imagined his mother, father, and granmother as they were little.
" Palm, Chrys," a lady shouted. Chrys then stopped day dreaming and looked at everyone. Why were they staring at him? Did he do something wrong? It took a second to realize that it was his turn to go up. Hearing the good lucks from both strangers and friends, Chrys walked up. He nodded to the lady and sat down.
" Calm and peacful Chrys, just be calm," was all that Chrys said as the lady was putting on the hat.
"Here it comes!," Chrys said.
Calm and peaceful is a good mantra, young man, and I feel it will serve you well in life. Add friendly and loyal to that and I think I know exactly where you belong! Such a good natured and happy child, you will have the best time HUFFLEPUFF!
Kaitlyn Winters
Feb 26 2007, 07:33 AM
"Firs' yers over here!" Hagrid shouted over the noise. Kaitlyn followed closely behind her sisters. "Fer to a boat!" Everyone rushed to the edge of the lake and over the bustle, she lost sight of her sisters. After much shoving and pushing, she found Roxanne and squeezed onto the boat she was on. Kaitlyn gazed in awe at her surroundings. She never imagined Hogwarts to be like this. So magnificant. So.. glamourous. Unknowingly, she was sucked into her private world of thoughts about life in Hogwarts.
The boat bumped against the shore and Kaitlyn jerked. That was fast.. she thought to herself. Following the crowd, she was once again back in her thoughts. Without knowing, they had reached the main doors of Hogwarts. Looking around, she realised that her sisters and cousins were no where to be found. Feeling albeit frightened, she looked around some more. "First years, listen here. You will be brought into the Grand Hall soon. Then, your name will be read off a list after which you will go up to the Sorting Hat and put it on your head." a teacher with a pointed hat said to them. Kaitlyn nodded ferverently to herself, then shook her head, feeling stupid.
The doors opened and Kaitlyn followed the train of students into the Grand Hall. After a short introduction from the Headmaster, the Sorting began. The teacher with the pointed hat began reading off a list. Kaitlyn was practically hyperventilating, she was so nervous. It soon got to 'G' and Kaitlyn slowly began to calm down. 'W' was coming up soon...
"Winters, Kaitlyn.
Kaitlyn gulped, and forcefully put one foot after another all the way up to the stool the hat was sitting on. She pulled the hat over her head and waited. GAH! I must have looked so stupid just now.
Don't worry, I'm sure you looked just fine. I like that you’ll do anything for your friends, even if it means breaking a few school rules! That’s brave and daring of you, and if it were for that fact alone you might’ve found yourself in a different house. As it is, I can see that your loyalty and friendship are far more important to you than breaking rules. Yes, off you go to HUFFLEPUFF!
Ashen Aurora
Feb 26 2007, 08:27 AM
Ashen walked stiffly into the huge room , pratically shaking with excitement. She stared in awe at the decorations hung around the Great Hall. Candles afloat everywhere and thunderclouds filled the ceiling. She knew about most of the wonderous enchantments that run the school, thanks to her father...but she never expected anything like this. The huge group of young witches and wizards finally reached the front of the room after passing four long tables filled with older students.
"Which one would I belong to?", Ashen thought with wonderment. Ashen hoped that she would get sorted into the house she wants. Then as the Headmistress, Professor McGonagall started the Sorting ceremony formally, she then realised with her start that her surname begins with an "A"
"Oh no....that means...."
"Aurora, Ashen!", her name echoed against the walls of the room.
"Gulp...here goes!", Ashen thought as she walked forward and sat on the stool as the Sorting Hat was placed ontop of her head.
A quick thinker like you is a mixed of brains and brazen. I've seen a combination like this before, and I knew just what to do with her. In spite of her love of books, I found her desire to do something important with her intelligence to be courageous, righteous, and true. If you haven't guessed by now, I sent that famous witch, and now you, to GRYFFINDOR!
Andre Blight
Feb 26 2007, 10:19 AM
Andre Walks into the Great Hall with Smile. Andre was happy. He had been told that he was accepted to Hogwarts.
Candles afloat everywhere and thunderclouds filled the ceiling.
Professor McGonagall had taken her position beside a torn and tattered looking hat, placed upon a stool. A roll of parchment was held steadfast in her hand. "When i call your name, step forward." She called out..
Andre Wait until his name was Finally Called.
Andre hopefully Sorting hat take me to precise House & as according to my character & andre also hope can gather with family & friend's in Slytherin which bring his Family to successfulness....
"Blight,Andre!"
here goes..Finally, The new challenge is immediately started..
The enthusiasm that you have to undertake new challenges in life is astounding. Do you know how often it is I have ickles just quaking in their boots right about now? Don’t worry, though, I won’t put you in a House that you’re not meant for. Now who will suit you? Ah, yes. I think you’ll find that there are no lazy, useless people in SLYTHERIN!
Jessica Chang
Feb 26 2007, 10:58 AM
Jessica grinned as she walked into the great hall, it was exactly as her cousin had described it! Right down to where the professors were sitting. Remembering her father's lectures about smiling in public, or in front of people she didn't know Jessica stopped grinning instead she surveyed the room with lazy curiosity. She spotted the Slytherin table on the far side and sighed hoping that she would soon be able to join them. Finally they reached the end and Jessica watched as the professor started calling different students up. She nodded with a small smile of encouragement when a couple of her friends went up.
"Chang, Jessica!"
Taking a deep breath Jessica smirked as she went up to sit on the stool, the hat was put on her head as she surveyed the room lazily spotting her cousin and nodding. Now she just had to wait as she heard a voice in her head....
Yikes! Please don't hex me! I won't say anything bad about your family, I promise. It is often said that your house at Hogwarts is like your family for seven years. I do hope you learn to apply such fierce loyalty to your fellow SLYTHERINS!
Chloe Summers
Feb 26 2007, 11:53 AM
The train came to a halt. Students from Hogwarts were all milling out of the train.
"Whoa!" Chloe exclaimed as she gazed up at the huge castle. "This is way cool!" She said as she nodded to herself. She then followed Hagrid and stepped into the small boat as instructed...
After that everything happened in a blur. There was the short briefing by Professor McGonagall after that all the first years were led to the great hall.
***
Once she took her seat, she began to study the students from various table. "No! I cant judge people by their looks! I shouldn't!" She reminded herself.
Sighing, Chloe rested her head on her arms "Which house would I get into?" she asked herself. "I hope its not Hufflepuff!" a voice rang out inside her head. She thought about her old school. "It'd wouldn't be as fun as this school!" She muttered under her breathe and smiled to herself.
"Summers, Chloe"
Chloe jerked up her head to see everyone looking at her. "How did they know it's me!?" Slowly yet steadily, she walked up towards the hat. Lifted it up, sat down on the stool and placed the hat on her head....
Well this is a tough case! I see that you are quick-witted and fair minded. Your brain would fit well with Ravenclaw, but it is your heart that speaks loudest. You wish to stand up for justice do you? Well, I assure you that you'll find many courageous and trustworthy friends in GRYFFINDOR!
Rufus Howard
Feb 26 2007, 11:58 AM
Rufus Howard was finally here. After meeting loads of people over the last few months in Diagon Alley, he was here! Rufus had spent his time between Diagon Alley and his friends with going to their homes and entertain them at his. He'd also been to New York with some of them. He looked around him. He was in the Entrance Hall will many of his friends. Though they were all together, none of them spoke.
Rufus watched as the large doors opened and together with the other un sorted first years, he made his way towards what he knew to be the staff table. Suddenly the Professor who was leading them stopped and turned to talk to them. Rufus was too busy thinking about what house he'd end up in to listern. Gryffindor? His grandma had been a Gryffindor so maybe. Ravenclaw? That had been his father, so he'd like that. Or even Hufflepuff, where his muggle born mother had been placed. There was also the chance of Slytherin, as his grandfather had been one. But he had meet a lot of Slytherin hopefuls, some of them not being very nice, but only some.
He was just thinking about his parents when he heard his name being called.
'Howard, Rufus..' Rufus stared wide eyed at his friends closet to him befor making his way to the front on unsteady legs. He came to the stool and sat down. Taking one last look at his friends before the Sorting Hat was placed on his head, and feel over his eyes.
I can see straight away what a kind hearted person you are. Always there for your friends and willing to offer a smile! If only there were more people like you in the world, surely it would be a much happier, friendlier place. But there’s nothing I, as a hat, can do about that now. I can, however, put you in a place where I am sure you’re bound to make plenty of friends! Your loyalty and acceptance of people will make others smile in HUFFLEPUFF!
Roxanne Winters
Feb 26 2007, 12:05 PM
Roxanne got off the carriage with a jump and an older student with a badge helped her with her luggage.
" -phhfanks," she said in between chews of chocolate toffee. She led her friends and sisters to a boat at the front and gingerly stepped into it. The boat wobbled in the still waters as they all clambered in clumsily.
A rather big, okay, VERY big and tall man with lots of hair crossed over to them and said, "No more then four 'ter ay boat." Some of them hesitated and then entered another boat at the back.
Roxanne fiddled with the cloth of her robes as the marvelous scenery before them unraveled. She took a deep breath of the night air and sighed. It was really truly beautiful...
Till she decided to lean over the boat and look into the waters. She could have sworn she saw a merman's tail! Everyone yelled in shock as she attempted to tip the whole boat over and quickly pulled her in.
"I saw-!", Roxanne exclaimed excitedly and waved her arms wildly around.
"Yeah..yeah, the giant squid, the bogeyman, and the just last year the garden gnome talked to you.", her sister waved her speech away.
Maybe she could tell her dad about the merman! He did believe her on the garden gnome!
They were asked to wait at the staircase by a tall, thin woman who gave the impression that she'd rap your head hard with her wand if you released even a squeak. Of course, Roxanne was tempted to test if it was true. She was going to open her mouth to marvel at the talking paintings, when her own sister hit her head with a wand.
Later the woman came back and beckoned them to follow her. Her eyes widened as she surveyed the Great Hall, it was exactly as her Dad described! Four long rows of tables filled with students were in the middle, and at the front, another longer table. There sat many adults, that she assumed were teachers, who quickly turned to their direction when they (most of them) quietly shuffled in.
She knew about the Sorting Hat, she had read it from a book.
"I hope it puts me in Ravenclaw!", she whispered to Kaitlyn beside her. The tall woman shushed her and walked to the front, unfurling a long...long scroll of parchment. Roxanne felt her stomach twist into a knot and glanced at the rows of students. Which were which? And she was getting hungry!
One by one, the students were called out. Soon, it was her turn.
"Winters, Roxanne.", her name was called across the hall.
Swallowing her nerves, she quickly brisk-walked to the front and sat with a thump on the stool. The Sorting Hat was placed over her head (it chuckled!), she suddenly felt rather peculiar as it covered her eyes, touching her nose.
Could it really tell where she belonged?
If only everyone was as easy to sort as you! Your desire for knowledge is refreshing and your steely logic impressive! Teamed with a quick wit and integrity I just know that Rowena will love you! RAVENCLAW!
Raymond Suzuki
Feb 26 2007, 01:03 PM
Once the train came to a complete stop, Ray followed his 3 minute older brother onto the platform. Usually he didn't like to follow Kai around because he was such a downer but for now he would. The sorting was so very close now that he almost felt he had to be close to his brother when this happened. Once off the train he looked around until he spotted the tallest figure he'd ever seen. "Woah, I don't think I've ever seen anyone that tall," Ray said in awe. "I feel really really short now Kai," he added looking over at Kai.
Ray gave him a grin and gave him thumbs up and soon frowned. "Do you think we'll be sorted into the same house like we always said we would?" he asked. He was a bit iffy on this question. He wanted to be in the same house as his brother but he douted it would happen. Their two personalities now clashed. Both he and Kai had agreed to try and get into Gryffindor before their mother died, but that was doutelessly wrong now.
The moment words came out of Kai's mouth, Ray grew quiet and didn't say anything else. What did he say to something like that? He shook his head as he got into the boat with his brother. Soon they were out of the boats and inside the castle. After several minutes they were in the Great Hall gathered around a stool. Kai's name was called first, and he knew his name would be called soon.
"Suzuki, Ray!"
Excitedly Ray rushed to the stool and felt the hat dropped on his head. He grinned at the croud and gave two thumbs up.
There is plenty going on in that head of yours, and there are two places that would nuture you but which one is best? Hufflepuff perhaps, they are a friendly lot...no? Against that one I see, well then it has got to be GRYFFINDOR!
Selene Beckinsale
Feb 26 2007, 02:42 PM
Selene crossed her arms. This school isn't anything special. She chanted inside her head over and over. There was one thing she forgot though. If she put that hat on her head then the stupid thing will be able to hear that. That would be good charcter building though. After pushing into the Great Hall she was really close to being in awe. The candles were amazing. She didn't let it show though. Being a true born Slytherin, she had to act like nothing ever bothered her. The only emotion she showed was anger. And she was pretty darn good at that.
Beckinsale, Selene
It was her turn. Stepping up to the stool, she sat and placed the hat on her head. She chanted: This school isn't anything special. every so often in her mind. She wasn't ready for this, her mind wasn't ready for this. Her body was shaking slightly. She felt all of the eyes on her and was prepared to laugh to get rid of the preasure. Well, whatever life is fun and you need to know how to deal with preasure.
Well this isn't hard. Leadership is your thing, but you also need a little humility. You can't just go around killing everyone you think needs to die. I know a place that'll teach you some manners and poise, and more than anything, will put you in your place. It'll be a little harder for you to earn your leadership skills in SLYTHERIN!
Alice Swindlehurst
Feb 26 2007, 03:07 PM
As she stood in the mass of her fellow eleven year olds in the entrance hall of Hogwarts, she practically beamed with excitement. She was really here. She was really in the building she was about to spend the next seven years calling 'home'. She'd soon find out what house she'd be in, which would be with her the rest of her life. Sure, one might not go introducing themselves as 'Hi, I'm name and I was in house' when one's fourty years old, but for the majority of her childhood, to herself, her parents, teachers, and friends, she'd be "Alice Swidlehurst, the....." The house just needed to be filled in.
An old witch approached the lot of them, and she clutched her uniform robes with a sudden jolt of excitement. As the witch explained what the children were about to go through, Alice turned to the girl she'd met on the train and whispered excitedly. "This is it! We're going to get sorted!"
She worked her way through the crowd to be near the front of the group, as she was small and being in the center wouldn't let her see much of anything. A set of great doors opened and they entered into a a huge room filled with other people, who she gathered were the other students. Most of them looked at the entering group, and Alice noticed quite a few friendly faces. She beamed back, walking straight and proud, making herself as tall as she could. She heard gawking and saw pointing from some of her classmates-to-be, and followed their excitement up to the celing, which she could have sword wasn't there at all. "Wow..." she murmured. She'd never seen, though her family was magical, such a complex level of spells.
When they reached the front of the room, a lot of waiting persued. She did her best to keep straight and alert while the old witch called names starting with A (last name first, of course) and placed the sorting hat atop their heads. She didn't pay much attention to the houses it called out, other than for the few people she'd known already, but instead began imagining what the hat might say about her.
It took her a moment to realize that the woman had called out "Swindlehurst, Alice", but she recovered quickly and made her way up to the stool, sat, and waited for the hat to touch her head.
...she closed her eyes and felt it rest atop her head. She thought very loudly: "Hello, Mr. Hat. Exciting night, isn't it? You're doing a very nice job so far."
Why thankyou, it’s always nice to be appreciated! Yes it is an exciting night, coming to Hogwarts, finding out what house you’ll be in, meeting your housemates … oh dear the excitement has let me ramble on! Never to worry, your self-preservation and cunning make you an easy sort; show them what excitement is in SLYTHERIN!
