It had been an average day of attempting to do last minute homework before Quidditch practice. The more she managed to get done now, the better off she would be later when it was two am. It was not that Cayden was a procrastinator. Every now and again, she would postpone her assignments to get something more fun done, but she was usually the type that attempted to complete everything as quickly as possible before she continued to get even more overwhelmed than she already was. Though, the Gryffindor was not sure if there was any way to possibly get even more overwhelmed than what she was feeling now. School work was not just the issue. It was everything.
The strain with her relationship with Elijah was one of the worst. It was hard to know what to do in a situation like that. He did not think to even talk to her about it! He just always thought he was not good enough and then behaved rashly. It made her sick worrying about him as each day in the "real world" continued to go on without her. Along with these worries, thoughts of Shannon overwhelmed her too. No matter what she did, there was no way that you could just cure heartbreak. It would hurt like hell for a while, and then one day, someone would be strong enough that the ache appeared a lot less evident. It took time, but Cayden felt helpless as she watched her friend mourn for a relationship that caused her so much pain. Something jerked in her stomach as the anger she had been feeling quickly returned. Closing her eyes, she took a few deep breaths before attempting to turn her attention back to the homework that was supposed to be completed. It was hard to manage to get through anything these days. All she could focus on was the thought that everyone was hurting and she was completely helpless. Damn it. She was not entirely sure what she did to deserve the punishment of having to deal with one of her biggest fears, but there is was, mocking her as she went through each day. How in the world was she supposed to manage to do anything if she was so lost herself? Head in hands, she tried to think through the whole situation when she heard the gossiping whispers around her. "Did you see Joyce and Brennan getting into it? Priceless!" She heard laughing from behind her as she immediately jerked up her head to look around the area that was now occupied with amused fifth years. "I heard they were fighting over a girl. Didn't you hear the Head Girl's name mentioned a few times? Wonder what's up there." She heard giggling coming from behind her, but at this point, she couldn't take it. Slamming her books, she stood up quickly and glared at the imposing fifth years. "Unless you want detention for the next year, I suggest you shut up. If I hear the shrill giggling one more time, your name will be on a detention slip quicker than I can snap my fingers." That seemed to get the gossiping group to shut up. Cayden was too busy throwing all her books in her bag and heading out of the portrait to actually see what the group was doing. After running down four flights of stairs (and only tripping once! Though there was a pink mark on her forehead to document this), she reached the hospital wing within just a few minutes. It wasn't until she approached the door that the seriousness of the situation seemed to sink into the Head Girl's mind. Closing her eyes, she leaned against the wall and attempted to catch her breath. Josh knew that he wasn't allowed to get himself hurt because of her. She did not allow it. Cayden was not even sure how the fight broke out if it really was about her. She just could not allow the fifth year boy getting hurt over her. A tear slid down her cheek and she wiped it off as quickly as it had come. Taking one large deep breath, she prepared herself to enter the room. Reaching for the door, she pulled it opened and walked slowly as she surveyed the room. When she found him in a bed, she was not pleased in what she found at all. His clothes looked bloody, and he looked rather bad off as well. "Josh," she said softly as she approached his bed. "Why was I doing my homework and then suddenly heard rumors you were in a fight.... about me?" The look in her eyes were one of the typical mom looks as she glanced down at the younger boy and his rough shape. Under everything though, she cared for this fifth year more than she would ever care to admit. He had just always been there for her, no matter the circumstances. Leaning down, she planted a light kiss on his forehead before whispering, "I hope other kid looks ten times worse. Did you give him hell?"
