If there was one thing that was confusing Arianna the last few months it was boys. Such strange creatures who you either loved or wanted to set the fire charm on them. Since Arianna did not know this spell, she would have to settle for the mudslinging hex and enduring their interesting chatter. Actually, so far she had rather enjoyed getting to know a wide variety of the gender in the dueling chamber.

As to interacting with them outside the dueling chamber and the quidditch pitch? The thought was quite frightening. No wonder she preferred going home to her two muggle best guy friends over the holidays since she had known them before they started getting all weird around girls.

There had to have been someone she could talk to outside of the chamber but who? Everyone she knew was to busy to speak to her about this. Even her dearest cousin appeared to have been occupied with her many duties but someone had managed to duel her a few times which was the only time Arianna had managed to see her.

She couldn't concentrate on her Astronomy homework. The subject was useless and to muggle for her. Who cares about stars, planets, and gases that don't stink? "I am out of here," she said to her roommates. Quickly going upstairs and dropping her stuff on her bed, Arianna headed out to go for a walk along the castle since it was night out.

Curfew was still more then an hour away so she thought it was safe to go to the Astronomy tower not to study the stars but to think about life, love, and. marriage

About a thousands stairs and painful knees later, she looked up and was amazed at the view. How come she hadn't seen this sooner? She walked to the edge and looked at all those balls of gas. Somehow she found herself deep in thought and thinking out loud, "Dear God. Why did you create boys? Did you run out of ideas?"

“I should go,” said Mallory with a grin, planting one last kiss on Orson’s lips. She ran her fingers through her hair to shake out the messy curls. But Orson wasn’t too keen on the idea of her leaving as he grabbed her wrist that was fiddling with her hair and pulled her back towards him, close enough so he could steal another long kiss, trying to convince her to stay.

God he made it hard sometimes to leave.

Her knees bended slightly but she pulled back, tilting her head at him, her grin coming back into place. “I told Waverly I’d meet her about ten minutes ago,” she said tugging at her wrist he still had a hold of. She had been attempting to leave for the past fifteen minutes… it wasn’t going so well.

After several more minutes of his persuasion and her insistence Mallory emerged from the broom cupboard, fixing her tie, and swinging her school bag over her shoulder. She stole one last glance Orson, giving him a grin, before walking off in the other direction of him to where Waverly was hoping still waiting. She had gotten maybe halfway when… why was Arianna going up the stairs to the Astronomy Tower?

Mallory tilted her head curiously and glanced at her watch. She was already late… oh what the heck. She slowly climbed the stairs after her cousin and emerged onto the landing in time to hear her cousins question. Mallory smirked.

“Oh I don’t know… I personally rather like boys,” she stated, her mind instantly going to the boy she had just left in a broom cupboard. “I think he’s wondering why you’re asking, though. Might want to explain yourself.”

Obviously you need boys in order for things like snogging and making babies along with receiving a foot message after a long hard day of cooking and cleaning. But seriously, why were they so gosh darn stupid and managed to misinterpret everything you say or was it the other way around? Yes. Arianna was a true blond and over the last month or so had miscommunication problems with several guys in the dueling chamber including Orson and Reginald.

In the end, she made herself look like an idiot and wondering whether or not this was the sign of growing up. The big one where you are about to emerge out of childhood and into something called the boy crazy teenage years. Seeing that she was about to turn thirteen in just over a month, this was possible.

Her thoughts were broken into with the sound of her cousins voice. At first she didn't quite know what to say since Mallory was one of the least likely person she would expect to run into her. "Yeah your right about that," Arianna sighed while looking out towards those shiny ball of gas.

Perhaps she should elaborate further to her own dear cousin? Mallory was an expert on guys and knew which ones were good and which ones needed a curse set on them right? How should she explain herself? Better start from the beginning. She would probably get a kick out of this.

"Well your probably better to answer this question. Let me explain to you some thoughts I have been thinking lately," she said while trying to think of how to put all these thoughts into words.

"Well...you see. I think I am started to err find them less than annoying. Problem is. The older ones seem to treat me as a kid sister while the ones my age are nowhere to be found." Arianna frowned while thinking about a few in particular.

"Maybe I am not good enough for them or pretty enough," she said sighing?

Mallory tilted her head slightly in curiosity at her cousin as she seemed to debate if she really wanted to say anything to her. She didn’t have too, honestly. Yet, sometimes, you just needed a little out. Someone to talk or who possibly knew what to say or had been through it. Then again… that might not be Mallory.

“Not good or pretty enough?” commented Mallory, aghast, after Arianna decided to open up a little. “If anything you are way too good for them and so pretty they don’t know what to do with themselves around you,” she informed her with a curt nod. If Mallory Lyons was anything, it wasn’t a girl with self esteem issues. She had her moments of staring in the mirror and not liking something, thinking her hair was way to curly, but, for the most part she tried to be happy with herself. She had what she had.

She leaned up against the wall, considering her cousin. She was twelve, nearly thirteen. Mallory had been hanging out with Louis at that point in time… there was nothing wrong with her cousin being interested in the opposite sex. In Mallory’s opinion, it was a rather good thing.

“I think… it takes a little bit of time,” said Mallory with a wise nod. “Sometimes you just don’t see it coming at all and then its there and you aren’t quite sure what to do. Sometimes it’s quite a bit of buildup but usually it just seems to fall into place. I wouldn’t worry about the older ones, cause, well, you are a little young to be hitting on fifteen year olds and all, but, give it some time. People might surprise you.”

For instance. You might just end up in a broom closet, hiding from Filch, and find him right there standing across from you.

Then you pin him to the wall.

(Just the two of us. You and I. *Shifty*)

Since when did Arianna have feelings that she wasn't good or pretty enough for a boy? Never. For one all the Lyons at least the females were blond, gorgeous, and talented. Not to mention they didn't take crap from nobody and wouldn't even hesitate to hex their lovers into a fiery hole when pissed off enough at them. Men did deserve fire under their butts once in awhile in order to realize what their women want and deserve.

Leave it up to Mallory to say the whole truth. and nothing but the truth so help you god Who was she kidding? Flipping back her hair Arianna said with a smile, "You are right about that. I don't recall anyone ever telling me I was ugly before unless it was behind my back. If this is the case screw them. I rather like my straight blond hair and my talents for piano, soccer, and just recently dueling. Can't forget about quidditch to," she said with a nod.

"Time," she questioned her? But how much time? A few months? A few years? Tomorrow? Life was sure hard. Liking boys made it even twice as difficult. There would be dealing with makeup and other products in her near future. Just the thought of it made her head hurt.

"I think it is building up ever since I started to duel," she trailed off while thinking about that fifteen year old comment. What Mallory didn't know was that she was crushing a little on the guy but like she said he was way to old for her.

"Its true that once I graduate from Hogwarts that those guys more then two years older them myself won't really be to old for me right," she asked her curiously? "It is not like I am crushing on one or anything," she said in a rush.

((Gah, sorry! I’ve been way to busy lately XD))

A smile, amused, smile appeared on Mallory’s lips at Arianna’s reaction to her moment of self-consciousness. If Mallory was anything, she wasn’t a girl that looked in the mirror and wondered if she was good enough… she just didn’t. She was content with who she was and at the end of that day, that was all that mattered. Yet, she was also a bit older than Arianna.

“That’s right,” she said with a nod leaning up against the tower wall her own blonde hair falling over her shoulders. Though, it lacked straight. It had been curly from the day she had been born. Not to mention if anyone thought it was curly now, she should see her baby pictures. She looked like little orphan Annie with blonde hair.

Her attention was shifted back to Arianna as she blue eyes snapped towards her at the mention of time. “Yes, time,” she replied with a curt nod. “Time tells all.”

Her eyebrows raised slightly at Arianna’s next comment… apparently boys didn’t have cooties anymore. A playful smirk appeared upon her lips involuntarily. “Right,” she said suppressing a knowing chuckle. She swore she saw Arianna’s cheeks go red there. “But, yeah, once you get older the age difference isn’t as prominent.”

She tiled her head slightly, her grin still plastered across her face. “Why?” she questioned.

(That's okay. I just got off a much needed vacation. Tis the season? <3)

Well not exactly someone but someones. Mallory didn't have to know about this considering she was family. Not unless her dear cousin didn't say anything to her family members. Especially her mother who would lock her dear daughter into a closet until she was 99 that is if she lived that long. As for her father, sure he was cool about everything Arianna did but he might just react differently when it came to boys and his only child dating.

What was with her lately? Usually Arianna wasn't one to worry about things like this and went with the flow. In most cases she still did except when it came to dealing with the male gender. Blame it on her new found sport in dueling. Before that life was a lot simpler and she only knew guys she played sports and had grown up with.

"Your lucky to have one guy that loves and cares for you. How did you get so lucky so early? I don't want to go through that whole lets date a hundred guys before finding the right one," she said with a sigh.

"Umm was all she could say while thinking about that one older guy she was crushing just a wee bit on. "No reason. "I do kind of like a guy around my own age. Unfortunately he doesn't seem to like girls in the I want to date you sort of way. At least that is what he told me during one of our duels."

A smile crept upon Mallory’s lips at the mention of Orson. She was lucky. “Hey, I met Orson fourth year,” offered Mallory knowing that wasn’t one hundred percent true. She had known Orson since first year, as a matter of fact. She supposed, looking back, wondering if he had broken his ankle yet was a minor form of flirting she hadn’t realized at the time. “Well, I realized I liked him fourth year. You’re only a second year, you have plenty of time.”

Yet, then again, before Orson there had been Louis. She’d always had someone. Not that Louis hadn’t be lovely, but, he wasn’t Orson. Mallory had made that pretty clear, she supposed, when she had ran after Orson the day Louis had decided to kiss her in the dueling chamber. Yet, she was lucky Orson even took her… no idea how she did it.

“I wouldn’t throw in the towel in just yet,” she said with a nod. In her opinion, everyone worked at different paces. Look at Whitney. She just got her next serious boyfriend after it hadn’t worked out so well with Ben Kennedy.

She chuckled at the mention of the boy not being interested in girls. There was two explanations to this one… and Mallory was not about to inform Arianna about the possibility of him being gay. Then again, Mallory finding out her exboyfriend had gone gay on her had been quite a shock to the system, perhaps she should warn Arianna…Naw.

“Well, girls mature faster than guys,” she said reasonably. “He’ll come around. Don’t worry about it. Really, it all will fall into place.” That’s how it works with the best ones.

He could have been lying. Guys were confusing like that. At least that was the conclusion Arianna was coming up with over the last six months or so dueling different types. Dueling was almost like being at an ice cream parlor without the dating part. You had to taste out all the flavors right there on a platform in order to find out which ones you preferred spending time with. Arianna was quickly finding this out even after the first time she had dueled them and knew which flavors she preferred.

Mallory would probably find her analogy funny but it was true. The same thing was true except Arianna was finding out which girls she preferred as just friends.

"So I have a longs ways to go I guess. I don't even know if I can wait that long," she said with a sigh. Already she knew who she wanted but wasn't to the point where she would do anything to get there quickly. Being thirteen was such a hard age and things were bound to get worse. There were already a lot of people in her year that were dating at ages twelve and thirteen which was to young to be dating in her opinion.

Smiling at her cousin she said, "I won't give up just now. Who knows? Perhaps I have yet to even met my first boyfriend and these are just crushes? I guess there is no point worrying since there are better things to works towards such as improving my quidditch and dueling skills. I guess getting good grades might be a good thing to," she said as an afterthought.

"Any more wonderful advice you would like to give to me dear cousin?"
