The smell of freshly creosoted fences & sunburnt tarmac hung in the off-london suburban air form the past week of nice weather. Driving down Holland Street was a small blue car, a young boy with a head full of dark overgrown curls leaned his head happily out the window. From the curb one could hear the high-pitched voice of the boy's mother. She was talking about the dangers he faces by leaning his head out the window which included: hitting his head on a mailbox, hitting his head on a street sign, hitting his head on another car, and bird droppings landing in his hair. The young boy ignored the constant stream of scenarios, acknowledging her comments only with a dramatic eye roll; this could possibly be the biggest day of his eleven-year-old life, he's not letting his mother's mollycoddling ruin it.
"Alright, Percy, you take care of yourself now," the anxious mother instructed, as she fixed the collar of her son's robe. The young boy gave her another dramatic eye roll. Giving each of his family Perseus Holt took hold of his oversized trunk and made his way through the crowd as fast as he could. Aha! Freedom! Now the boy could stay up as late as he wanted, eat as many sweets as he pleased, learn how to use magic! It was eleven year old paradise. Once inside the train he looked everywhere for one of his friends, neighbors, a familiar face, anything really. The poor boy didn't realize how big the crowd was, he looked for a solid fifteen minutes (equivalent to hours, in 11 year old time) before giving up on finding someone he knew. By the time Percy gave up his pursuit of a friend all the compartments were full. Feeling awkward at the thought of meeting new people Percy found the compartment with the least amount of people he could find. "I'm sitting here." he declared with slight uncertainty to the girl who had an entire compartment to herself. "My names Percy," smiled the young Mr. Holt, finding a seat across from the girl and extending his hand for her to shake. |

Lissa had taken this ride many times before. But this time was different, this time it was her turn. Her father and mother were up front driving while she sat in the back seat with her two older brothers, Peter and James. They had just graduated from Hogwarts last year and came to see their sister off.
"WE'RE HERE!" Lissa squealed, jumping out of the car before her father had even stopped and running for a trolley. She was way too excited for her own good. James and their dad loaded up the trolley and they were all on their way. She said goodbye to her parents and brothers and jumped onto the train hoping to find a good seat. She found a completely empty compartment. She took a seat here. She wished that Jack was around. It would have been loads of fun if they had a compartment all to themselves. Just then the door opened. Lissa turned her head. Jack? Her face fell when instead there was a boy with lots of curly hair. He demanded that he was sitting here also. Well that was just rude. He should ask. Didn't his parents ever teach him any manners? "My names Percy," said the boy smiling and extending his hand. Lissa looked at his hand. Should she shake it? No. He just demanded sitting here without her approval. What if she didn't want him to sit here? Instead of reaching out to shake his hand she simply said her name, "Lissa," |

Well, that was rude. Didn't her parent's ever teach this girl any manners? "It's only a hand shake," Percy pointed out with a little attitude in his voice as his hand came back to him side, unshaken. Well, this wasn't exactly how he imagined his first ride to Hogwarts would play out. If Merryn was here it would be better. He wished she was here, Merryn always made him laugh. If had seen her, he would have sat with her not matter how many people were crammed in her compartment. Instead he was here alone with a girl who didn't seem too happy about Percy invading her space.
"Well it's nice to meet you Lissa," he said though his tone wasn't very convincing. He said it more to be polite. The air hung with silence and it was quite obvious these two eleven year olds were not instant friends. Percy looked everywhere but at his dark-haired companion sitting across from him. He wished for a distraction, the sweet cart perhaps. His father told him the cart was the best part of the train ride and Percy wanted to confirm it himself. The young Mr. Holt wasn't very patient, he just wanted a simple chocolate frog to make the ride a little enjoyable. Was that too much to ask for? He would ask Lissa if she knew when the cart came around, but judging by her last answer he guessed he wouldn't get much information from her. |

Only a hand shake? "It was only a rejection for your hand shake," scowled Lissa. What was so bad about rejecting a hand shake? Lissa didn't want to touch his disgusting hands. He was a guy and probably didn't wash them after coming out of the bathroom. Ok, eww. Don't worry though Lissa was so past the stage boys have cooties.
Percy was looking around the compartment. Everywhere except at her as he said it was nice to meet her. Well that was just rude. He should at least have made contact maybe smiled or something like that. And nice to meet her? Of course it was nice to meet her. Fact, even sitting with her was nice, awsome, whatever else you want to call it. Lissa was just an impeccable little girl. The end. "I'm going to take a wild guess and say your an unsort as your wearing a black tie and your robes have no house creast on it. What house are you planning to go in?" See Lissa can be friendly. "Though I think you'll make a perfect Hufflepuff seeing as you look dimwitted and don't really fit in anywhere." Okay so nice Lissa was gone. She should really work on keeping her mouth shut and not say everything that comes out of her head or she'll not make any friends. The only real friend she has is Jack, and last time she counted that was just one person. "Oh, and if your gonna ask me which house I'm gonna be in I'd say Slyterin." There isn't any other house Lissa would rather be. |
