Hadrian had spent a good 3 days at Hogwarts now and it was the weekend, no classes for the first years. He had found a map of the school and its various versions, in the library. He was taking this time off later in the evening after tea to learn his way. He hated being lost and it would never happen to him again! He had explored most of the main floor and was now going to the North Tower.
The first year boy thought if he got to know the school he could find some prime observation points and know the area's that really were not all that good. The tower seemed deserted. He checked North Tower off his list and was about to walk back down when he heard a noise down at the bottom. He froze trying to figure out what it was. Unfortunately that left him very vulnerable at the top of the stairs. Two much larger figures ran around the corner and bowled Hadrian over. His map and other utensils went flying. The paper fluttered to the ground in a mess. The wind was knocked out of Hadrian as he landed on his back. The two culprits must have realized what they had done and panicked because the next thing Hadrian knew is everything went black and there was a scurrying back down the stairs. No he had not blacked out! Something had been thrown over his face. He scrambled to get it off frightened tears ran down his face. He hated to cry but it had hurt and scared him. |

Kitana was wandering the halls again. She had to decide where to take her mentee. She made a mental list
1) The Kitchens (most definitely) 2) The Dueling Chamber (she had never been there herself but...) 3) The Hospital Wing (a place she must know the location of) 4) The Trophy Room and Armor Gallery (again...for reference of location) 5) The Library (her mentee would need it at some point) 6)... She never got to three because two delinquents suddenly rushed past her, nearly knocking her to the ground. Such acts were not tolerated by Kitana. They were laughing at something. Slytherins, she could tell by the poor attitudes. They probably played some trick on a poor first year. Kitana looked up the steps that the two bullies had come from. It led up the North Tower. Kitana sighed and started walking up the steps. Gosh there seemed to be tons of them! Finally, nearing the top, she spied a small figure. Her heart went out to the poor kid. It was a first year. Over his face, a thick cloth that said 'Loser' in bright, shining green. Kitana couldn't believe that they could be so cruel. She knelt down beside the kid, neatly folding her dragon kimono. Taking a hand and pulling the cloth off the kid's head. She found that it was a little Slytherin boy. "Are you alright?" She asked him softly. |

The Darkness brightened suddenly and there was a voice Hadrian squinted in the sudden light. He quickly whipped away the tears with his hand and stood up quickly trying to straighten his close. The eleven-year-old boy stuck out his chin.
"Thank you for your assistance Miss." He said trying to control the mixture of fear and anger in his voice. The two older people had surprised him in the rudest way. He didn't have to take it out on the girl in front of him now she seemed to genuinely want to know if he was ok. "I am fine, I just wish I had seen who did it..." His voice trailed off as he looked down the stairwell, "justice needs to be served." He shook his head still trying to regain his composure. He bowed to her remembering his manners now that he was calmed down somewhat, "I am Hadrian Magnus." He introduced himself, "appreciate your assistance Miss, I am in your dept and a Magnus never forgets to repay." he ground his teeth slightly not really liking the thought of owing someone but it was a matter of honour, his. |

Aww, he was so cute!! And polite too! Amazing! A first year with manners! That was indeed a rarity. He even bowed to her! She liked this kid instantly, this she decided as she stood up. Kitana also bowed, not only because he did, but because she would have anyway. A cultural habit.
"It is a pleasure, Hadrian Magnus." She said. "My name is Kitana Koda." The poor boy looked like his pride was severely hurt. "You do not wish to find out who the culprits were. They are roughly three times your size." Kitana continued, walking past the boy and into the tower proper. she looked out the window and onto the grounds. She saw many of her fellow students enjoying the day in the sun. Haddrian said that he would like to repay her, and he was in her debt. Kitana sighed, still looking out the window. Manners were a good thing, but being in her debt...she didn't need that. "Then repay that debt now, forget about it." Kitana put it simply. "I hate random acts of bullying. If a person deserved it, that one thing. But first year hazing, that's one thing I cannot stand." And that was true. Sure she did torture the Greek girl, but that was classified under the first instance. Hadrian's case was pure first year hazing. |

Hadrian studied the girl in front of him closely. Kitana Koda. He did not recognize the name and his eyes caught Hufflepuff colours. He wondered what year she was as she spoke a reply to him. She truly was a Hufflepuff at least in his estimation of what a true Hufflepuff was according to hearsay. Most people would take his dept and use it wisely, or not so wisely but use it. Kitana did not.
"I appreciate your," he started pausing to find the right word, "kindness." It was an unfamiliar word to Hadrian. Rarely had anyone ever been kind to him it was unnerving. He vowed silently to do something in return for her even if she objected or it was not initiated by her. A dept was a dept. "I have been trying to learn my way around this school. So many things randomly change it is dreadful!" He exclaimed putting himself officially back in to order. With his tie straight and his trousers dusted off he felt much better. He didn’t much like being on the spot in conversation either. Hadrian was so use to observing his surroundings it was hard to suddenly be social and that is all that kept happening at Hogwarts thus far. |

Kitana smoothed some wrinkles in her dragon kimono. Kindness, he said. Hm, no. What she had done was not out of kindness. It was simply something that she felt obligated to do. She didn't want first years to be in her debt. That's not the way to start their time at Hogwarts. She didn't say anything on that matter of course, she moved on to his comments about the school.
"So you don't want to get lost? Well, that's impossible, even for a third year like myself. I got lost recently. Whatever you do, don't read and walk at the same time, you'll end up getting lost. No matter how hard you try. Do you like it here so far?" Kitana smiled over her shoulder. This young Slytherin boy was...interesting. He was polite and yet, very uncomfortable. Nice, but extraordinarily odd. He liked order, from the way that he quickly straightened himself out. But he seemed out of place in a conversation. Kitana watched him for a while longer before she spoke. "You don't talk to people outside your common room much, do you?" She asked laughing slightly. |

"I shall make note... no reading and walking check." He said nodding seriously. Kitana was a 3rd year, he mentally made note of that as well. "It is... pleasant." Hadrian replied to her question. It was better then home but then again not. He was still puzzling that one out. "I am managing at least. Lessons and what not are interesting, Professors sufficient, students well... there are lots of them." He commented trying not to be negative. His mother would probably go off on a tirade he however tried to be not like her when possible.
"You have been here for 3 years thus far I hope they have been enjoyable." He said trying to be polite in conversation yet again. It was so hard! He most definitely could not be a politician (to his mothers dismay she envisioned him as the next Minister of Magic). "If it is not an intrusion what house do you belong with?" He asked before answering her question. She had asked if he talked to people much outside the common room. " Not often no. I do not talk to many in the common room for that matter. They all are so... Slytherin." he said rolling his eyes. The last conversation he had in the common room he was attacked while he sat on his own his first day. The girl was insane trying to force him to socialize and then call him egotistical and big headed. Hadrian had no idea how it had come about but it was exasperating. Since then he did his best to avoid most students older then him and ignore most students his age. As to females he didn't make eye contact or acknowledge their existence. That is probably what made this interaction so much more complicated. Kitana was a girl and older. He expected her to freak out at any moment; lucky for him thus far she seemed safely rooted on this earth and did not emotionally explode on others. "Social settings are not my specialty." he said clearing his throat uncomfortably. "I guess it comes with age." He said not really believing it. |

"I'm a Hufflepuff." Kitana responded smiling. "And you're a Slytherin I see. Hmph. You'll learn soon. Socializing becomes easy once you get around to meeting people. Give it some time, you only just started school. You'll meet people. I promise." Kitana continued on kindly. Well, she liked Slytherins, to an extent. But she had nothing totally against them. Some of them just rubbed her the wrong way.
It finally dawned on her what bothered her about this boy. He was borderline apathetic. Kitana turned around to face the boy. She looked him over. He seemed to be the average first year. "Alright, I've decided to help you out. It seems that you don't exactly care about friendships, school, or whatever. At least that's the impression that I'm getting. If I'm wrong stop me now and let me know." Kitana paused waiting for an interruption. She actually fully expected one. Seeing as no one liked for people to have the wrong impression about them. |

So she was a Hufflepuff. Kitana pointed out he was as Slytherin, in the past he had gathered his house had been the most self-serving and the most linked with the Dark Lord and other Dark Arts enthusiasts as his mother would call them. This lead to what his tutor had explained a bad reputation. There had been little thought Hadrian would be sorted anywhere else. The young boy really could have cared less however and wasn't sure he liked the connotations that came with the silver and green robes his mother had made particularly for this year when he was born. The fabric was hand woven apparently like he knew what that meant.
Hadrian stopped his thinking tangent when Kitana proposed a very interested question... no rather statement she was not asking him anything. Did he care about friendships? Not particularly. Did he care about school? That he did. Hogwarts was alive with magic and every stone had sat here watching wizards and witches for thousands of years sculpting their talents and lives for that matter. The moment he had arrived at Hogwarts he felt at home and safe from his mother. Here he could be who ever he wanted not what she intended to make of him. The girl had also added a 'whatever' category as well Hadrian was not sure what could be put here but he shrugged in response to it all. "Miss Koda I believe you have me at a disadvantage. Care is such a strong word to use for a place I have only been a short time. School is very important to me, friendship I have not made a priority that is for sure. Some would say I have high standards in this regard." He chose his words carefully from many conversations with his tutor. She did seem genuinely interested in her decision to help him. Could he deny her in a fit of anger? No because it honestly did not faze him that much. Her presumptions were based on a 2-minute conversation. Did he want to make an enemy out of an older student that in the right circumstances could prove useful.... No. That answer solidified his next statement. "What is it you wish to help me with and how?" He asked raising his eyebrows. ((EDIT OOC Sorry took so long I got very busy this week!) He seemed to be thinking over her request. Finally, after what seemed like a long period of time (she was slightly impatient) Hadrian spoke. He was actually speaking more than he had in their short conversation. She waited for him to finish, keeping her face pleasant as she did.
"Well then Mr. Magnus, would you care to explain why I have you at a disadvantage more clearly?" She asked slowly, carefully. She didn't want to make the poor boy think she was suspicious of him or anything like that. "Quite frankly, you will care for this school soon. I promise you that. It's a home away from home. For some..." Kitana paused and swallowed. "For some, it's better than home." Kitana thought to her own home situation. Was Hogwarts truly better than home? For her, yes. She'd rather be at Hogwarts where she was just another student. Not at home where she was in the spotlight at all times. She could blend in better at Hogwarts. Yes, even though she's one of the few Asians, she was more comfortable at Hogwarts. But it was not time to think about her family life. Hadrian had asked another question. "Help you care about the school of course!" Kitana exclaimed."And how...well...I haven't figured that out just yet. But come here, over to the window." |
